Machine Robo Fan Fiction ❯ Celeron: A Reploids Journey ❯ Alpha ( Prologue )
Celeron: A Reploid's Journey
Before I begin, I would like to say that I began this story on June 4th, 2001. I am writing this story to submit as a character story to your MH:FD Message Board game. I spent some time developing the character and such, so this is why it took so long. I will try to add all the elements I need to. If there is anything you are unclear of, please ask me. A secondary note, it may seem to be jumping between two different people at once, that's because it is. I am doing the adventure of the person who finds and activates Celeron and Celeron himself. Anyway, enough side tracking and on with the story.
A radio crackled in the darkness,
"Alpha team. Report. Alpha Team? Status?…"
No response.
"Alpha Team?"
A man in the darkness steps next to the radio. Had there been anyone there to see him, they would have seen the mysterious man smile at the radio as he turns to walk down the hall, leaving a small group of soldiers dead on the floor of the hallway.
Deep within the building laid a secret laboratory where Reploids were being manufactured in mass amounts. ReploiTech, a leading manufacturer of Reploids, was constructing these Reploids. However, these Reploids were of a more sinister nature, for shortly after being completed, the Reploids were exposed to the Sigma Virus, corrupting their systems and making them Mavericks. These Mavericks were to be unleashed upon the city and destroy it. The final soldiers of the mass batch were nearing completion. Their leader, Celeron, was the strongest Reploid made by the company. A scientist walked to the command console and boots it up, preparing Celeron for activation and infection.
"…Input Password: "
The scientist types in a medium length code and enters it.
"…Password Accepted" the monotonous computer drones.
"Subject Status:
Name: Celeron
Sex: Artificial Male
Height: 6'7"
Class: Fighter
Weight: 450 lbs
Optical Colour: Grey……"
Celeron floated there in the liquid contained within the stasis pod. He was unarmoured as of yet, rather unappealing to look at. An apparently human form in a black skintight suit, which is in fact his Reploid skin. He was to be equipped with the most powerful armour created by the company.
"…Weapons: N/A
Other: Celeron is equipped with a miniature combustion engine installed in his waist area. His legs carry wheel bays in which there are wheels to be used by Celeron in secondary mode.
Celeron is also equipped with a prototype Gravity Well. This device can be used to alter the gravitational field of an area for a short period of time. The gravity change can be sustained until energy reserves fail.
Completion Rate: 100%
Release?
Yes No"
The scientist smiled, moving his hand on the mouse to activate the program to introduce Celeron to the world. As the scientist was about to initiate the final step in what was sure to be a massive slaughter, the double doors leading to the lab in which the Reploids were contained burst open. A man sporting a heavy suit of armour that appeared to belong to a Reploid at one time stepped into the room, carrying with him a double-ended beam saber. The man quickly approached the scientist, grabbing him by the white collar of his suit.
"Shut down your computers and deactivate the Mavericks, before I do." The man growled at the scientist. In panic the scientist drew a small pistol from his pocket just in time to feel a surge of heat in his ribcage as the man passes his saber through him. In a dying move, the scientist hit a panic button, which activated the automated defense in the lab. Within seconds Auto-Turrets lowered themselves from the ceiling and set themselves on Proximity Alert, all the while sirens and lights were going off in rapid succession. The man looks at the computer screen to see a countdown. Not wanting anyone to escape the building, and realizing he stands no chance against the turrets, he hacks the terminal and manually detonates the destruction charges within the building.
Not a single member of the science team escaped the building. No one did. Recovery and exploration attempts to find anyone alive within the ruins of the building claimed even more lives, bringing the total body count of the doomed building to 5,193. However, the biggest massacre committed by Mavericks was avoided. Upon discovery by one exploration team that there was a mass amount of Reploids infected with Sigma within the bowels of the building, the explosion was deemed a Godsend, and word was every Reploid that wasn't completely destroyed was damaged beyond operational standards. Or so was popular belief.
"Carl……"
"Yeah Andrew?"
"Take point."
"Roger."
The small team of explorers moved silently through the ruined tunnel. The first one came up to a small doorway. He backed against the wall, raising his fist to halt the group. Suspicious activity had been reported in this sector a few months earlier. The discovery of scorched corpses around the outskirts of the ruins was the final step towards today's mission. Rounding the corner, the man aims his LazRifle around the room.
"Clear."
"Roger that Carl. Team, move ahead."
Two more passed by the last one. One more man and one female operative. The small group moved over to a large hole in the wall on one side of the room. The first one in the room backed up against the outskirts of the hole. He leaned over a bit, to look around the corner. He was met promptly in the face with a fire axe. His lifeless body fell to the ground.
"CARL!" the female operative screamed, running towards the fallen body of the leading operative. She looked up quickly, aiming just as quickly to blast the arm off of a Maverick standing just beyond. A flaming mechanism dropped to the ground with the arm, not that it mattered as a volley of blasts disassemble the Maverick within the time frame of 4 seconds. The female operative lowered her weapon, kneeling over her fallen comrade.
"Carl…."
"He's dead Janice."
"No…."
She cried harder, lowering her head to the chest of the man. She remained there for a while before raising her head, taking the dead man's hand. She held his hand for a few minutes before sliding a small gold ring off of her finger and placing it on his. After arranging him neatly under a makeshift grave of rubble and Maverick scrap she wiped her eyes and walked past the other two waiting men.
"I'm going to kill them all. I swear on my life I'm going to avenge Carl."
"Janice, wait up, you're unsteady at the moment. It'll affect your performance."
"No, fuck you, I just lost my Carl. I don't care anymore."
She turned away and stormed off towards the next room, leaving the man standing there. The last two caught up with her just as she entered a large room. The men walked into the room just in time to see the female operative fall.
There, on the floor, she was wrestling a large mechanical dog-like Reploid. A quick shot from one of the men blasted open the broad head of the Reploid. The female operative pushed the inoperational Reploid off of herself.
"I could have handled him Fred."
"Sure you could, that's why you were on top."
"Oh fuck you too."
"Now now you two. Enough."
The group passed through a last hole and entered what used to be the Reploid Factory. They looked around the room in amazement.
"I am NOT fighting all these bastards."
"Don't worry, they aren't operational. The ones we met were maintenance that were infected."
No sooner had the man finished his sentence then he was taken down by a plasma bolt to the side of his head.
"Andrew. Shit, aren't operational my ass."
The remaining two operatives quickly ducked behind a fallen table as a hail of plasma showered where they once were. Poking quickly over the table, the female operative fired a few blasts, taking down the attacker, just as another 2 activated. She ducked behind the table.
"Damn, they're starting up all over."
…
She looked over to see a fluorescent orange cone of light sticking through the other operative's chest. A small, thin Reploid armed with a beam saber leaped over the table, slashing at her. A quick blast to the neck of the Reploid fixed that problem. She stood quickly, spinning around, and ran towards the corner of the room. As she approached the corner, a heavy arm smashed her in the side. She stumbled and fell on a computer right beside her.
"...Activating Celeron."
The tank opened quickly, spilling the contained liquid all over the floor. Celeron fell to the floor on his knees, shaking his head. He looked up to see a large Reploid with a huge arm, he also saw the woman backed up against the computer. Acting on an impulse, Celeron grabbed the first available item he could lay his hands on. As he touched it, red energy burst from both ends. This startled the woman, but didn't seem to faze Celeron as he passed the blade through the Reploid. Celeron turned quickly to see the woman, only to see she was gone. Celeron looked towards the hole in the wall where doors once were and saw the fleeing woman. He started off after her, grabbing a suit of armour from the floor near the computer, deactivating the weapon at the same time.
Celeron met the woman outside.
"Excuse me…"
The woman screamed at the voice, turned around too fast and fell to the ground. She crossed her arms in front of herself in defense.
"No! Don't kill me!"
Celeron just stood there. The armour he picked up is now secured to him. At one time it was probably chrome and red, but now it was so worn it was just a dull grey and a faint red with the occasional scorch mark.
"I wouldn't hurt you. Why did you run away?"
"Huh…?" The woman lowered her arms "You're not a Maverick?"
"No."
"Thank God."
"Why?"
She is silent.
"I lost my entire team to Mavericks back in there, my Carl was one of them."
Celeron looked down at the ground, thinking about it a bit. He looked back up at her.
"What are Mavericks?"
She sighs.
"Mavericks are those robots back in there. They killed the others, and almost got me. They are all over the world, and they have destroyed a lot of things and killed lots of people for no reason. I was just part of a small Maverick Hunter team, but I think there is a bigger one out there. A real big one."
Celeron was confused over this. He still didn't fully understand at the moment, but deep inside he felt a deep hatred for Mavericks. Looking around himself, he saw most of the same city was in ruins.
"Did Mavericks do this?"
"Yes, all of it. The remaining people all left for another city."
"What makes you think there are more powerful Maverick Hunters out there?"
She looked up at him, being shorter than him.
"During one of my teams Missions, we were interrupted by a team of Reploids that barged ahead of us and cleaned out the area, no sweat."
"Do you know where I could find these Reploids?"
"No idea."
Celeron looked over the skyline, pondering.
"Anyway, thanks for saving me. I have a workshop outside of the city. If you are going to go find these Hunters and help them, I could help you out with a few things."
Celeron looked back to the woman.
"Like what?"
"Transportation and equipment."
"Hmmm, I think that would help."
"Well, it's a long walk. This way."
The woman turned around and began to walk off. Celeron looked after her, looking at his legs. Celeron scanned through his available programs until he found what he wanted. He activated his Drive program, and shortly after, his knees bent as his shins rotated around.
The wheel bays opened and the wheels emerged as the legs folded on themselves, feet sticking straight out. Celeron revved the engine, rolling up behind the woman. Celeron picked up the woman and held her.
"Tell me where to go."
After the woman recovered from the shock of being lifted so easily she stutters out "Uh…..G-go down this road, I'll tell you where."
And so they drove.
Upon reaching the workshop, Celeron set the woman on her feet as his legs unfolded and he stood up straight again. The woman walked over to a workbench and began searching for something. Celeron walked over to the bench, wondering what she was looking for. Celeron stepped up next to her, looking at a curious little device she was holding.
"Here, put this on your wrist."
She handed him the little device. Following her instruction, he slid it on his wrist as she set about attaching it to him. Once she was finished she stepped back.
"There, now, try making something happen."
Celeron thought this was an odd request, but upon trying, a pair of 1
"I call these Claw Units. The claws can be projected outwards attached to the small front part to be used as a grappling hook. The cord is a high tension titanium alloy cable and can support 1 tonne."
Celeron looked over the Claw Units, smiling at the way they seem to perfectly suit him. Celeron looked over the bench, looking at the other things. He spotted a rather nice looking piece of technology.
"What's that?" he asked, pointing at the object.
"That? Oh, it's an X-Buster."
"Can I have that too?"
"Sure."
The woman took the X-Buster and Celeron's left arm, and after a period of time, she had it well attached to him. Celeron looked it over, smiling while retracting his hand for firing mode, then extracting his hand to set it on safety. The woman looked at Celeron admiring his new X-Buster.
"That can be charged, you know."
Celeron looked over at her, then back to the cannon.
"Really."
"Yeah, it can be real powerful if properly upgraded."
"Where did you get all these things?"
"I salvaged them from Mavericks destroyed in past missions….."
After saying this, she realized that she forgot to pick up that flaming device that one Maverick had.
"Damn."
"What's wrong?"
"Forgot something."
Celeron stayed quiet. He looked over himself. Upon closer inspection, he notices that that used armour doesn't have the same appeal as new armour would. He thinks to himself for a minute before looking back over at the woman, who had begun to work on something.
"Excuse me, do you think you could make me some new armour."
The woman turned from her project and looked at him.
"Sure, but not tonight. I could do it tomorrow, in the morning. Any idea on how you want it to look?"
"Red, white and silver. Something that fits me well, and isn't too heavy. And a cool helmet."
"Ok. You have to find the metals though." And with that, the woman went off to get some sleep, while Celeron wandered around a nearby Junkyard.
Early the next morning, the suit was completed and fit on Celeron. It was a rather sleek designed suit. The helmet was a white and silver recreation of a Cobra's head with a small red jewel in the forehead. The shoulders were made to spike out a little, and to inflict damage with a shoulder charge. The main body is nothing special, a white, red and silver breastplate backed with a jetpack. Celeron's leg pieces couldn't be made to work with his wheels, so Celeron had his engine removed and the wheel bays sealed. In their place now are legs that end in rather malicious bladed feet that resemble the taloned feet of a bird. Celeron also had his Claw Units, X-Buster and Dual Beam Saber detailed in white, red and silver. During this process, Celeron was deep in thought over seeking out the Maverick Hunters. As the final touches were put on Celeron's armour, he made up his mind.
"I'm going to search out the Maverick Hunters."
The woman looked disappointed at his decision.
"Really?"
"Yes, it's something I have to do."
"Ok then…"
The woman finished the work and back up a little.
"You know, that jetpack won't hold out forever. I have some old Ride Armours out back, if you want to take one. Haven't been used in years, but they still work."
Celeron looked at the woman, standing up to walk out back to see this Ride Armour. Upon arriving behind the building, Celeron is awed by the large machine. Celeron walked slowly towards it, running his hand along the arm, stroking the quad set of large, long, sharp spikes that make up the hand of the arm. Celeron took a step onto a small indent in the arm and jumped up into the air, landing heavily in the Ride Armour. Celeron hit the ignition button and took the controls as the giant machine rose to its mechanical feet. Celeron smiled at the thought of piloting this machine. Celeron looked down at the woman on the ground below.
"Thank you for you help."
The woman smiled up at Celeron.
"No problem."
Celeron turned around to start off, then stopped and looked back.
"All this time you've helped me, and I don't even know your name."
"My name………is Janice."
"Janice?"
"Yes."
"I'm Celeron."
These were the final words between them. Celeron just smiled down at Janice after this and started off in the direction he was facing, not knowing where to go next, but will continue.
There, that's my story on Celeron. It might not be entirely in third person past tense, but I tried. I hope you had as much of a good time reading this story as I had writing it. To clear up a few things, I will list some stuff here.
Celeron's basic weapon is X-Buster
Additional weapons are 1) Dual Bladed Beam Saber
2) Claw Units
3) Gravity Well
The jetpack Celeron has isn't a normal jetpack. It doesn't sustain flight, it is used more for quick boosts of speed rather than flight. I hope I make it into this game.
