< b>THIS… IS… SPIRIT!&n bsp;
Shine! Against all odds, Explode!
In the west district of town, the S elect Corps were assembled, evacuating al &nb sp;the civilians and
preparing to charge  ;to the city centre and reclaim medaropolis.& nbsp;Only the city centre and other
area s of importance were attacked. For some reason, the 24 hour hop mart was include d in
the list of important areas. T he police, the army, and the Select Corp s were al fighting, but
none of&nb sp;them had even so much as laid a dent in the bulk of the enemy forces.&nb sp;Three Select
Corps members were grouped&nb sp;together with three medabots next to a&nbs p;building that was once
the general ban k.
One of the Select Corps soldiers  ;was leaning on the wal clutching her&n bsp;side with a bloodied
hand. She was&n bsp;dressed in the same mechanized uniforms a s her partners, but the helmet
was instead shattered on the floor with a br oken visor. Her stomach was also bandaged&nbs p;up,
stained dark red and both of her legs were too. Her left arm was  ;in a splint and her mangled
hair w as too badly tended to for anyone to&nbs p;tel what colour it was before turning maroon and
red with blood and grim e. Her forehead had a blood soaked banda na wrapped around it, the
bandana improv ising for a bandage. The other two membe rs, both men, were in a similar if
not better state. The eldest of the  ;three cleared his throat for attention.
"We have a problem," He said in a commanding, overpowering deep voice. "The whole&nb sp;
Gamma squad just got wiped out and&nb sp;reports from the Ghost team are saying&nbs p;that the enemy
have secured the City&n bsp;Hal . Five schools have been seized and are being used by the enemy
as& nbsp;garrisons. We can't pick off any wandere rs anymore. An attack on any of these&nb sp;buildings
would do serious damage to property. We need to find a way to storm the school buildings
and capture t he enemies inside without any casualties to&n bsp;the students who were stil in there
for after school activities. I need&nbs p;options, and now!"
"Why bother storm t he schools?" The female asked with half lidded eyes, only barely
conscious. "We just have to take over the mother ship&n bsp;and the whole attack halts. Chop the  ;
head off the snake."
"No-can-do private ," The Commander replied. "The only way to get to the flying saucer is by < br> plane or helicopter. We'd al be sho t down before we even have a chance  ;to board the thing.
You know that there's no fighter that's capable of taking&n bsp;that thing down either. You and Air-
Ptera got shot down trying!"
"Don't remi nd me," The girl said through gritted te eth, clenching her fists hard enough to
make her palms bleed with her nails.&nbs p;Images of what she thought would be he r last few
moments kept flashing through her head…
. . .
"Heading for the mother ship. Requesting permission Commander!"
"Permission granted . Blow that thing out of the skies!"
A grey fighter jet with a medal pattern painted on its wings shot strai ght up into the sky,
climbing vertical&n bsp;y upwards until the engine spluttered and gasped for a break from the
thrott le.
"Gear clutched, visors checked, no thing on the heads-up-display. Stil at 30% damage. That
means 70% shields remai n. Everything's good. Engine temperatureâ€&b rvbar; Whoa, I've been pul ing
some  ;serious stunts to have reached that high!&nb sp;How am I even stil flying?"
"Because I'm here too, Sakura!" The Selec t Corps pilot, Sakura, looked at the &nb sp;heads up
display again. Sure enough, an image of a robotic eagle head stared& nbsp;at her in its blank,
expressionless  ;way.
"I know you're here Air-Hawk!&nb sp;You've been giving me non-stop instructions&nbs p;and support the
whole time!"
"Y eah, about the advice, want some now? Go down! The bad guys are that way!"&n bsp;
"Oh yeah, my bad. I'm new to  ;this, ok? I've never seen so much infor mation in one plane
alone. This is too much to take in and fly at the& nbsp;same time!"
"Hey, you're stil &nb sp;not going dooowwwwnnn!" The jet spiral ed& nbsp;clockwise three times before
suddenly fl ipping over onto its back and hanging in the air for about two seconds. Its  ;nose
then faced the earth as it da rted back down again for its confrontation&nb sp;with the saucer. The
clouds al streamed past them as if being sucked by a massive vacuum behind the plane. The& nbsp;
plane kept corkscrewing clockwise as it& nbsp;fel , picking up momentum for each couple of feet it
dropped.
"Slow& nbsp;down! Are you trying to make a deco rative splat on the ground?"
"Hold&nbs p;on, I'm fine." As the plane fel further, an army of flying medabots joined&nb sp;it, al of them
Femjets. The sky seemed to almost explode as the Femjets al fired their anti-air missiles at&nb sp;
once, al of them aiming at the& nbsp;jet.
"Air-Hawk, what do I do?"
"Relax. Stop spiral ing and try&nbs p;to level out. The grey fighter's parts  ;al screeched in protest as
the pi lot desperately began pul ing the clutch  ;back up to level the jet. Slowly, the&n bsp;jet began to
ease into a smooth  ;curve to escape the grasp of gravity. B ut the missiles wouldn't be shaken
that& nbsp;easily. "Come on! More, more! We're too& nbsp;close to the ground, we're going to&acir c;€¦" At the
last moment before&n bsp;impact with the unforgiving skyscrapers, the&n bsp;jet shot back up, spiral ed
three&nb sp;times, and took a hard banking turn l eft, just narrowly avoiding the c luster  ;of missiles.
The fighter jet kep t turning left, attempting to get behind  ;the Femjets. Al the Femjet fighters scattered, hoping to avoid the F 40 s pitfire combat jet.
Sakura's jet thrus ters flashed a bright iridescent green before blasting off into the distance.
"Wh-where'd she go?" The Femjet leader asked& nbsp;with a tremble. As if on cue, a&nbs p;blinding flash
of light cut through th e air, fol owed by the Femjet getting&nb sp;cut in half, fal ing to the city  ;
streets before exploding in a dazzling display of lights. Sakura made a ful &nb sp;180 degree U-turn
and shot to the&nbs p;mass of Femjets, taking them al down& nbsp;with machine guns and missiles. The
sky lit up like New Years Eve on t he fourth of July as the whole force&nbs p;was wiped out in
seconds.
"Alri ght! Thanks for the boost Air-Hawk!" Sakura&n bsp;shouted out in delight.
"Don't tha nk me, you're the one flying. I'm just&n bsp;in the hatch under the plane!"
" Now, the saucer…" Sakura yanked& nbsp;the controls, almost tearing her arm out of her shoulder
in the process as& nbsp;a shooting pain crept across her whole&n bsp;body.
"Hey, are you feeling ok?&nb sp;Your vital signs have seriously dropped an d I'm worried."
"Don't worry, I'm  ;fine. I just stressed myself too far on that last run. I can stil fight." The jet
glided over the clouds as& nbsp;it gained altitude, before it shot down& nbsp;again to take on the main
saucer.&n bsp;A stream of blue flaming skul s carv ed their path towards Sakura's jet. Sakura&nb sp;flipped
the jet over on its back  ;and slid under the beam, a mere two&nbs p;inches away from death.
"Careful Sak ura-chan, you'l lose too much air!"  ;
"A bit late Air-Hawk!" The jet conti nued flipping as it plummeted towards the&nbs p;earth.
"Hold on Sakura, I'l fi x this!" A panel on the jet's underside& nbsp;opened up to reveal an Air -Ptera < br> curled up inside. The Air-Ptera launched itself into the air and spread its wings before
grabbing the spiral ing fighter. With practiced ease, the Air-Ptera grabbed&n bsp;hold of one wing
and used its w hole body like a parachute to catch enou gh air to slow the plane down. Just  ;
before the jet hit the ground, its  ;wings wobbled slightly as control was reasse rted. The Jet
thrusters lit up again&nbs p;and the jet shot into the sky in a slight less fashionable way.
"Alrigh t, now let's go!" Medabot and jet both&n bsp;flew side by side towards the main s aucer.
"Medaforce!" Time seemed to&n bsp;slow down for Sakura as she watched in horror, seeing
another skul instantl y materialize in front of Air-Hawk, chomping& nbsp;down on him, medaparts
and al .&nbs p;The jaws were closing painstakingly slowly,  ;as if trying to torture Sakura with the
thought that she was helpless to d o anything and Air-Hawk was to fast to&n bsp;stop moving and
escape. Her best fri end's life was about to be ended right&n bsp;there and then. Sakura's heart kept
thumping louder and louder in her own ea rs, and despite how time was near frozen , her heart
was stil beating like& nbsp;a freight train late for a delivery.&nbs p;A delivery of death.
Slowly, wi thout any clear thought on her mind, jus t fear for her partner's life, Sakura tu rned
the whole jet towards the skul  ;, the questioning snout of the plane po inted towards the skul
in an act&n bsp;of desperation. Sakura's heart tripled its&nbs p;insane pace, blocking out al other so und in
the world with its repetitive&nbs p;thump-thumping. The nose inched ever closer  ;to the skul ,
waiting to break thr ough. Just a metre, 50 cm's, ten, five,& nbsp;ri i ggghhhttt, there!
The world& nbsp;returned to Sakura in a blazing inferno, no slowmo, no drama, and no Air -H awk.
Only fire and pain. There was stil enough time to pick were to c rash however. Sakura used
the remains of a the wings to tilt the plane towa rds the head saucer, narrowly avoiding three& nbsp;
other massive skul s on the way&nbs p;down.
"Come on, come on, where is the eject button, Ah!" A glop of  ;burning hot fuel splashed onto
Sakura's  ;right hand. She tore her right hand awa y from the controls, barely containing her&nb sp;
horror at the sight of her burning,&n bsp;sizzling hand. Tears were forced away thr ough sheer
wil power and the force of the scream trapped inside her throat was pushing against her
windpipe, injuring&nb sp;her instead of having her scream away  ;al the pain. The plane kept
spira l ing, faster and faster, before it fina l y smashed into the harsh, unforgiving covering of
the Saucer. The jet rol  ;ed over, losing a part with each impact on the saucer, before it final y < br> rol ed off of the saucer completely,  ;smashing into a radio tower and exploding&nb sp;in a fit of
sparks as it and&nbs p;the tower col apsed on their descent t o the ground. Screams from panic
stricke n civilians was heard as everyone nearby  ;ran as fast as their legs would al  ;ow away
from the cascading sheets of&nb sp;fal ing metal and debris. The plane f el with a crash, flattening
itself  ;and everything nearby.
As the smoke&n bsp;and dust cleared, everyone could see Saku ra was nowhere in the wreckage, or
not recognizable at least.
"Phew! That was a close one!" Sakura exclaimed High in the sky, just above the saucer.  ;She
was suspended in the air by th e Air-Hawk, dangling by her arms. "I tho ught I was gone for
sure!"
" Don't worry about it," Air-Hawk said, stil&nb sp; holding Sakura's right arm. "I told you, I'm there
for you!"
"Yeah,&n bsp;save the reunion for later," The commande r cal ed out through the intercom "You'r e
freaking me out with your stunts.  ;Do you know how scary it is when a soldier's vital signs go
dead but you stil hear their voice? Don't get&nb sp;kil ed!"
"Yeah, yeah, that's an&nbs p;order, yes-sir! Right away sir! With a  ;cherry on top sir!" Sakura
replied, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Don't worry&nb sp;doc! I'm fi-"
An explosion rang&nbs p;through the air as a barrage of missil es erupted from a whole arsenal of
canons on the surface of the saucer. Air -Hawk blasted higher, trying to escape the&nb sp;missiles,
with the screams of terror from Sakura accompanying him. Sakura could fe el the wind
sapping at her strength,&nbs p;draining what was left of her energy, tearing everything away from
her as if trying to strip her to a husk . The screams, the tears, they were al&n bsp; yanked and torn
out of her wid e mouth and pained eyes, her power leavi ng along with it. Sakura, with an
e ffort, turned her head up towards Air-Hawk's& nbsp;head and tried screaming for him to  ;slow
down. It was hopeless. Sound could n't even reach her eardrums over the fre akish howling of
the wind. Her eardrums& nbsp;could burst from the air pressure alone& nbsp;as she felt the pressure on
her&nbs p;chest becoming more and more unbearable.&nbs p;
"If the air gets thinner the higher we go, how come my chest feels lik e it's being crushed by
elephants?" she& nbsp;thought to herself, finding it even hard er to think from the lack of oxygen.&nbs p;
Air-Hawk, noticing the discomfort Sakura wa s in, slowed down slightly, preparing for&nbs p;a
nosedive back to the earth. Within&n bsp;a fraction of a second, the first mi ssile arrived, too close
for comfort. Ai r-Hawk grabbed the missile, trying to make&nb sp;the movement as smooth as
possible so as not to set off the missile, and then, knowing just how close he was&nbs p;to death,
he swerved his whole body&nb sp;around, releasing the missile in the proce ss and sending it off
course and aw ay from himself. His original plan was t o launch it back at the other missiles,& nbsp;
but realizing that would be impossible&n bsp;without blowing himself up, he figured es caping death
was also ok instead of  ;countering it.
As soon as the mi ssile felt his free hand, he released Sa kura and flipped over and away so as&nbs p;
not to hear Sakura screaming in terror and frustration, dodging two more missile&nb sp;before
flying off again. He swerved, scraping his wings against the wal of&n bsp;clouds before banking
hard to his ri ght, escaping eight more missiles as they&nbs p;col ided into each other in the attemp t
to pursue him. Final y, he shot&n bsp;his way down again, stretching out his&nb sp;hand to reach Sakura.
His fingertips brushed against Sakura's skin, just inches aw ay from anything he could grab.
Just&nbs p;a few inches further would be enoughâ €¦
Five missiles, al at&n bsp;once smashed into Air-Hawk, ripping his w ings and everything else into a
pitiful& nbsp;state.
100% damage to leg meda parts. Functions ceased. 58% damage to right& nbsp;arm. 40%
damage to left arm. Scout& nbsp;options disabled.
"Ack! I'm hit!&n bsp;I'm hit! Man down!" Sakura opened her&nbs p;tightly shut eyes to see what looked < br> like Air-Hawk fal ing in slow motion  ;beside her, with his eyes darker and ap parently on
standby. "This is it Sakura& acirc;€¦ I'm sorry I couldn't be a stronger medabot for you…"&nb sp;
"Enough with the cheap drama Hawk save me right now!" Sakura was sure she& nbsp;saw a smirk
on Air-Hawk's featureless&nb sp;face, as if he was laughing at Sakura 's distress. "Not funny Hawk,
save meeee eee!" Air-Hawk barrel rol ed back into l ife and grabbed Sakura under her armpits.&nbs p;
Slowly, he level ed out, careful not&n bsp;to pul up too harshly in case he injured Sakura while
doing so. As&nbs p;gracefully as a military medabot could be,& nbsp;he pul ed completely level ed out < br> while he neared the ground, preparing to& nbsp;land. Sakura stared up at the Saucer&nbs p;in wonder,
thinking of how much time&n bsp;and effort must have been put in to& nbsp;construct such a thing. And
even mo re amazing, a whole fleet of them. Just& nbsp;as she was wondering about this, the&nbs p;saucer
began to whirr loudly as the machinery underneath toiled on to u nleash whatever monstrosity
it would.
"Hey, Hawk? How do you think everybody&n bsp;else is doing? I haven't real y talk ed to anyone
since my plane crashed  ;and the com link looks pretty busted af ter being knocked around
everywhere like  ;that."
"I dunno. Maybe we should  ;check on them. We're not making any pro gress."
"Yeah. We haven't even laid&nb sp;a dent in that thing's armour." Air-Hawk&n bsp;glided lower to the
ground to get&nb sp;a better look at the situation. Sakura&nbs p;peered down at the wreckage below. Her  ;
whole body locked up and a prickly,&nbs p;tingling feeling leapt across her spine, pa ralysing her
nerves as it made its journey towards her brain. It hit its ma rk, was registered in her mind,
and  ;classified, as extreme shock with a mixture& nbsp;of an impossible terror. Cold sweat brok e out
across her whole body; al &nb sp;thought was erased from her mind and replaced with basic
instincts. Run, run now!
"Air-Hawk!"
"Oh my-" < br> "Air Hawk! Tel me what happened!"
The entire fighting force, the tanks , the troops, the mortars, the helicopters,&n bsp;al of them were
gone. Completely&nb sp;annihilated. An entire force of sixty men& nbsp;and women, al expertly trained,
go ne. And not just that, the buildings wer e al demolished too. Four city blocks&n bsp;blown apart
with nothing but rogue m edabots scurrying around, scavenging what items&nb sp;of use they could
find.
"They& nbsp;did this?" Air-Hawk squealed in a high&n bsp;pitched squeaky voice, unable to speak pr operly
due to the shock of the atta ck. "In the time we were in the sky ? We just saw them alive and
wel&nb sp; ten minutes ago! Al gone?"
"Hawk, run away, now! If they catch us here, we're finished!" Air-Hawk's boosters  ;lit up again
as he prepared for li ft-off.
"Where do you think you're&nbs p;going?" A voice snarled from the air. Air Hawk stopped dead in
mid flight  ;as he saw, supposedly standing in mid-air,&n bsp;five medabots, none of them with
win gs, just staring with glowing green eyes.&nbs p;The sun was to their backs, getting in Sakura's
eyes, blinding her so she  ;couldn't see their true forms. Just their&nb sp;silhouettes. Air-Hawk
scrambled backwards, hold ing on tightly to Sakura's wrist as he&n bsp;turned to flee. The second he
pul&nb sp;ed off the 180 degrees spin, he crash ed straight into a mass of steel. Air-Ha wk backed off
and chanced a glance upwards to see the face of another medab ot. Before he could properly
see what&nb sp;it looked like, a fist was rammed int o his gut, passing too close to Sakura's torso.
Air-Hawk's eyes flashed red and& nbsp;went wider than ever as oil began s pewing out of cracks in
his steel a rmour. Sparks started appearing on his arms&n bsp;and thrusters as he struggled to stay&nbs p;
afloat and hold up Sakura at&nb sp;the same time. His grip slackened, as  ;did his fighting spirit as he
realized& nbsp;he stood no chance of winning in hi s condition.
"Air-Hawk! Get outta-"another& nbsp;medabot appeared underneath Sakura as if  ;he or she had
always been there. I t grabbed Sakura's legs and yanked her o ut of Air-Hawk's grip, taking ful
advantage over Air-Hawk's lapse in conviction  ;and lost strength. Sakura's mouth stretched
wide open as more screams left her,  ;releasing even more energy and sapping her&n bsp;strength.
Air-Hawk was occupied trading b lows with the large medabot and couldn't  ;do a thing about
Sakura.
"No&nbs p;way! I can't die here!" Sakura screamed&nbs p;out in defiance, kicking and screaming at&n bsp;her
captor. The medabot ignored her completely and kept on flying to the gro und, planning on
smashing her against th e asphalt road. "Hey-hey, what are you d oing? You can't-"The asphalt
erupted as the two smashed into the rock, shooting high into the sky like water in a s plash.
Sakura wasn't even given enough t ime to scream before her body was smashe d into the
rock, and effectively, smashe d into pieces. Sakura couldn't even feel  ;it. She could see it al
happening . The person's body fly through the air, her hair bil owing in the breeze a s her
helmet flew off, a smashed, t wisted wreck. The landing, medabot first, cre ating jagged rocks
on impact, and then&n bsp;the person getting smashed onto one, and& nbsp;the crushed by another rock.
No. A& nbsp;medabot. Air-Hawk. She could see the per sons whole body contort in pain, the spi t
flying from the person's mouth as  ;she let out another scream. The horror and agony on her
face as she again& nbsp;realized her helplessness. The sight of the Air-Ptera getting shredded to
pieces  ;against the rocks and chinks of pavement&nbs p;before his medal final y ejected.
The damage metre beeping out results just& nbsp;fel on deaf ears as Sakura watched her reflection
dying. Al the whil e, she was incapable of feeling anything.&nbs p;Devoid of any emotions, not even
her&n bsp;feelings were ruffled.
As hard as& nbsp;a rock, she watched herself die.
. . .
"-I'm amazed you two  ;are stil alive actual y," The Commande r continued, not noticing the
kind of&nb sp;trance that Sakura was in as she reca l ed events. "Any normal person would ha ve
died just trying to escape those  ;missiles, yet you kept fighting even without a jet! You should
get a promotion, right Sakura? Sakura? Are you there? Sa -ku-ra, speak!"
"Huh, what? Oh, sorry ch ief. Just remembering something. I know we&nb sp;can't attack it head on,
but what&nbs p;are we getting the schools for? They w on't help us, wil they?"
"Evacuating&nb sp;the children from that area is our to p priority. Remember, it's not about beating& nbsp;
everyone up; it's about protecting the&n bsp;peace. No matter how strong you are,  ;you're useless
to the Select Corps if&n bsp;you can't even protect people. That's who le reason most of us joined.
To&nb sp;protect the world, our friends, our famili es. Our children."
"Commander, is there& nbsp;something else you're not tel ing us?"&n bsp;
"…"
Sakura looked at him in annoyance, expecting answers for anoth er battle when she had just
come ou t of the fight as the sole survivor  ;from her original squad.
"Commander, no  ;matter what you say, I can't fight in&n bsp;my condition unless you give me a re al
reason to fight."
"Wel then&nbs p;don't."
"What?"
"You're too badly inju red to fight anyway. I was gonna tel&nbs p; you not to fight anyway if you < br> chose to come. You real y thought I' d take you with us for this next ba ttle?"
"But I can stil fight!"
"And you think I care? Newbies like yo u are meant to fol ow orders, that's&nbs p;al ! Don't try to be
a hero about it!"
"Commander…"
"If&nb sp;you have to know, my son is in t hat city. A lot of troops stil hav e family in there! If we
were even& nbsp;strong enough to blow up the main s aucer, the crash landing would be enough  ;to
kill al the survivors! We have to get the people out of there fir st!"
"Your son? Wait, I didn't notice&nb sp;before but, you're Officer Jyouzo Tenryou?"&nbs p;
"You bet I am! One of the best&nb sp;officers there is too!"
"So your son& nbsp;is… Ikki Tenryou? And you  ;think he's in the city?"
"Yup. He said he was going to some robattle in&nb sp;town. He could only be here. But that 's not
al . We cleared out al the civilians already and the city shou ld be free of any more people,
but& nbsp;when we secured the schools, it was  ;attacked by a massive wave of kilobots.  ;The school
was our first target to  ;save everyone, but now that we've lost it, we cannot guarantee
everyone wil &nb sp;escape safely. The Select Corps reputation  ;as the heroes of the city is at st ake
here, but so are the lives of&n bsp;thousands of students and staff. We have& nbsp;to go!
"Sadly, you don't have a&nbs p;plane to pilot and your medabot is in& nbsp;rubbish condition. You wouldn't
be able& nbsp;to fight at al like that."
Sa kura's rage kept building inside as she remembered that hopeless feeling of being use less.
The darkest recesses of her mind&n bsp;that contained al the anger and rag e had already been
shattered by tho se rogue medabots, but now it was leakin g out again at the thought of being  ;
useless to her team-mates as wel .  ;It built up like a tsunami at a da m until final y, the gates
her mind opened in fury.
"Are you saying I& nbsp;can't fight because I'm a girl? You  ;think I don't cut it?"
"What? No, no, nothing like that! You're just-"
"A& nbsp;girl! That's right, I'm just a girl!&nbs p;No real power, or skil , or talent&nbs p;that is useful in this
situation, wel& nbsp; stuff it! I'm going after your kid s and I'm gonna save them, whether you&n bsp;like it
or not!"
"You can't eve n stand up straight!" Sakura wobbled on her shaky legs, barely able to get
back onto her feet after al she we nt through.
"I'll make it up, just try me!" A massive boom shook through th e air fol owed by a dragon like
roar. Everyone turned their heads to a  ;spot in the far off distance where bird s of al kind were
scattering away& nbsp;from.
"Officer Jyouzo, it looks like&nbs p;our new target it there if that's what I think it is."
"You may be r ight, you may be wrong. But I can h ear something."
"You can hear what?"
"Heh-heh. That noise, it's a voice. Listen& nbsp;closely to it, you may just hear so mething." Sakura
listened again to a sec ond roar. Her eyes widened as she assess ed the situation.
"Commander Tenryouâ€& brvbar;"
"Yup! You can hear it too!"&nbs p;
Dude… I rock!"
Rig ht, just gotta say something: As I had&n bsp;said earlier, this was originally on
Fanfiction.net and as such there may be  ;nonsensical comments here and there,
such&nb sp;as me asking for Original Characters. (Don ’t bother insert them if I  ;remember
reading the terms correctly. I  ;don’t think I’m allow ed to ask for OCs on this site.) Either way, I’ll mainly be u ploading on FF so that is the first  ;place you should check

"Y eah, about the advice, want some now? Go down! The bad guys are that way!"&n bsp;
The
clouds al streamed past them as if being sucked by a massive vacuum behind the plane. The& nbsp;
plane kept corkscrewing clockwise as it& nbsp;fel , picking up momentum for each couple of feet it
dropped.
"Slow& nbsp;down! Are you trying to make a deco rative splat on the ground?"
"Hold&nbs p;on, I'm fine." As the plane fel further, an army of flying medabots joined&nb sp;it, al of them
Femjets. The sky seemed to almost explode as the Femjets al fired their anti-air missiles at&nb sp;
once, al of them aiming at the& nbsp;jet.
As if on cue, a&nbs p;blinding flash
of light cut through th e air, fol owed by the Femjet getting&nb sp;cut in half, fal ing to the city  ;
streets before exploding in a dazzling display of lights.
"Careful Sak ura-chan, you'l lose too much air!"  ;
With practiced ease, the Air-Ptera grabbed&n bsp;hold of one wing
and used its w hole body like a parachute to catch enou gh air to slow the plane down. Just  ;
before the jet hit the ground, its  ;wings wobbled slightly as control was reasse rted. The Jet
thrusters lit up again&nbs p;and the jet shot into the sky in a slight less fashionable way.
Sakura used
the remains of a the wings to tilt the plane towa rds the head saucer, narrowly avoiding three& nbsp;
other massive skul s on the way&nbs p;down.
"Come on, come on, where is the eject button, Ah!" A glop of  ;burning hot fuel splashed onto
Sakura's  ;right hand. She tore her right hand awa y from the controls, barely containing her&nb sp;
horror at the sight of her burning,&n bsp;sizzling hand.
Sound could n't even reach her eardrums over the fre akish howling of
the wind. Her eardrums& nbsp;could burst from the air pressure alone& nbsp;as she felt the pressure on
her&nbs p;chest becoming more and more unbearable.&nbs p;
"If the air gets thinner the higher we go, how come my chest feels lik e it's being crushed by
elephants?" she& nbsp;thought to herself, finding it even hard er to think from the lack of oxygen.&nbs p;
Air-Hawk, noticing the discomfort Sakura wa s in, slowed down slightly, preparing for&nbs p;a
nosedive back to the earth. Within&n bsp;a fraction of a second, the first mi ssile arrived, too close
for comfort. Ai r-Hawk grabbed the missile, trying to make&nb sp;the movement as smooth as
possible so as not to set off the missile, and then, knowing just how close he was&nbs p;to death,
he swerved his whole body&nb sp;around, releasing the missile in the proce ss and sending it off
course and aw ay from himself. His original plan was t o launch it back at the other missiles,& nbsp;
but realizing that would be impossible&n bsp;without blowing himself up, he figured es caping death
was also ok instead of  ;countering it.
As soon as the mi ssile felt his free hand, he released Sa kura and flipped over and away so as&nbs p;
not to hear Sakura screaming in terror and frustration, dodging two more missile&nb sp;before
flying off again.
Man down!" Sakura opened her&nbs p;tightly shut eyes to see what looked < br> like Air-Hawk fal ing in slow motion  ;beside her, with his eyes darker and ap parently on
standby. "This is it Sakura& acirc;€¦ I'm sorry I couldn't be a stronger medabot for you…"&nb sp;
"Enough with the cheap drama Hawk save me right now!" Sakura was sure she& nbsp;saw a smirk
on Air-Hawk's featureless&nb sp;face, as if he was laughing at Sakura 's distress. "Not funny Hawk,
save meeee eee!" Air-Hawk barrel rol ed back into l ife and grabbed Sakura under her armpits.&nbs p;
"Yeah. We haven't even laid&nb sp;a dent in that thing's armour." Air-Hawk&n bsp;glided lower to the
ground to get&nb sp;a better look at the situation. Sakura&nbs p;peered down at the wreckage below. Her  ;
whole body locked up and a prickly,&nbs p;tingling feeling leapt across her spine, pa ralysing her
nerves as it made its journey towards her brain.
Air-Hawk's eyes flashed red and& nbsp;went wider than ever as oil began s pewing out of cracks in
his steel a rmour. Sparks started appearing on his arms&n bsp;and thrusters as he struggled to stay&nbs p;
afloat and hold up Sakura at&nb sp;the same time.
"Evacuating&nb sp;the children from that area is our to p priority. Remember, it's not about beating& nbsp;
everyone up; it's about protecting the&n bsp;peace. No matter how strong you are,  ;you're useless
to the Select Corps if&n bsp;you can't even protect people. That's who le reason most of us joined.
To&nb sp;protect the world, our friends, our famili es. Our children."
"Commander, is there& nbsp;something else you're not tel ing us?"&n bsp;
"Your son? Wait, I didn't notice&nb sp;before but, you're Officer Jyouzo Tenryou?"&nbs p;
The darkest recesses of her mind&n bsp;that contained al the anger and rag e had already been
shattered by tho se rogue medabots, but now it was leakin g out again at the thought of being  ;
useless to her team-mates as wel .  ;It built up like a tsunami at a da m until final y, the gates
her mind opened in fury.
"Yup! You can hear it too!"&nbs p;
Dude… I rock!"
Rig ht, just gotta say something: As I had&n bsp;said earlier, this was originally on
