CHAPTER FOUR:
The gun recoiled again. A perfect headshot. But X never expected anything less from Zero. That's how he'd come a Special Class A-Rank Hunter, after all. X was mellowed out. He sat not too far off from where Zero was in the target practice room. Watching his Sempai train. Before now, X had been left in the apartment while Zero had gone out to continue things normally. Only after the incident before, he couldn't risk leaving X alone anymore. Zero had loaned X an old jumper of his, it was a little too big for the smaller reploid, but that was the point. It covered his wrists, and most of his hands. He didn't have to worry then about people seeing his observably bandaged wrists. At least he was thinking ahead for him.
But what saddened X was that, the only reason he was being dragged around with Zero these days was because Zero didn't trust him anymore, especially leaving him alone. But he couldn't really blame him; he'd tried to kill himself after all. And he'd been lying to Zero more and more—and actually getting away with it—but all the more reason why Zero didn't trust X. It'd take a while for X to convince him otherwise. Probably as long as it'd take for X's wrists to heal.
X rubbed his wrists underneath the sleeves of the jumper. They ached a lot. But he tried not to let on to that too much. Zero would've gotten X to join in on the arms training, but his wrists would hardly be strong enough to deal with the recoil, and he could even open the wounds again. Zero would explain a few pointers, leaving X only to observe.
It was around lunch when they left, and seeing as they were out for once; they chose to go to the cafeteria for a less effortful meal.
“I didn't have to make up an excuse for you; our unit's got a week off. That's one less week of making up an excuse as to why you're a `no show', this is time off you're actually allowed”, Zero always seemed rude when he talked, but X forced a smile. At least that meant he could spend a week with Zero. Because of what had been happening over the past month, X had found he and Zero got to talk together more, he got to spend time with him rather than being ignored as much as he use to be. He still hadn't told him yet, and he wasn't sure when—if ever—he would.
“A whole week?” X mused allowed.
“You gonna keep playing AWOL after that? Or are actually going to bother to get back to kicking the shit out of Mavericks?” Zero looked to him. “What ever happened to wanting to become an A-rank, anyway?”
X sighed. Things had gotten so muddled his want to finally be an A-rank along-side Zero had gotten lost in the haze of all the drama recently. He still wanted it; he still did plan to fight for that ranking. But X didn't end up replying, and the conversation died out into silence. When X heard Zero roughly sigh in irritancy, he broke the silence, meekly replying:
“…Sorry…”
Normal for this hour, the cafeteria was crowded. But of course by being with Zero, X didn't get any trouble. They were walking past some of the crowds when Zero stopped as someone walked up to him from ahead.
Another Special A-Rank, Storm Eagle. Although supposedly charismatic, the air force leader had a mouth as foul as Zero. Besides X, Storm Eagle would've been the only other person in HQ—or anywhere—that Zero talked to, or `befriended' to a sense.
“Yo, you blonde bitch!”
“S'up, bird shit”.
X didn't quite get how that wrote off for a friendly greeting, but both with confident smirks they hit their fists together in an informal substitute for a handshake.
“Haven't seen you around lately”.
“Been busy”, Zero quickly countered. Not stating the obvious that he had basically had to hold X's hand all the time now. Storm Eagle didn't question it, nodding his head, convinced.
“Well”, he leered. “You should be busy with the new rookie intake we've gotten this month. You should see the bodies on some of those new-things~”
He had pointed over to a group of them at one of the tables further away. X felt awkward standing in this conversation. True, Zero hadn't been around as much as he use to since he had to `baby-sit' him all the time.
“Hey X, didn't see you there”, he looked up trying to be polite when the outranking officer spoke to him.
“Shapin' that one up fine I hope, Zero?” Zero rolled his eyes. But because of that X got worried what that statement was actually meant to mean.
“He's coming along”.
“Pretty cute, I have to say”.
X shifted his eyes away. While it was already an intimidating conversation, he just plain hated the word cute. Because of the contents it was always used in. He never spoke up about it, knowing it'd just cause trouble. He turned back to miss something Storm Eagle told Zero with lewd intent. When they looked over to him then back again, X was sure that it was about him. But what was said, he was pretty sure he didn't want to know.
“Before I forget to ask, since a couple of units are on break at the moment; the crew's having a gathering at the pub tonight if you wanna join; you too, X”.
Zero looked to X, pausing a moment.
“I'll have to pass. I've got some things to do tonight; same as X”, he lied.
Storm Eagle took it as a hint that wasn't even being implied.
“Well, the two of you enjoy yourselves then. I've gotta get back on duty, so I'll see you around”.
***
It wasn't the fact that Zero thought the pub would have the wrong crowd for X. He knew so long as he stuck around him no one would approach him; even if they wanted to. But tonight was meant to be one of the hottest so far this summer. X would be out of place stuck in the jumper, and there was no way anyone else could find out about how badly he hacked himself up. And those bandages were damn obvious. With nothing better to do on their break, Zero bought himself some beer to waste the night away with. Sitting down with X—who'd gotten rid of his jumper now, not feeling awkward about his damaged wrists in front of Zero—he offered him one. X was basically old enough, said Zero's logic a least. It wasn't like X hadn't drunken alcohol before, but it was a lot more rare than Zero drinking. It was hard for a day to go by where Zero didn't at least knock one can over.
“T-thanks”, X said, taking the can offered to him from Zero. It was quiet again, X was the only one finding that uncomfortable though. Zero too much of a recluse in personality to care. He was ahead of X, if you were counting how much they were drinking. X never over-drank, but still in a bit of a stoic mood, he stupidly wasn't even thinking about the fact he was copying Zero. The only difference was his system wasn't as use to so much alcohol as Zero was, and that would come back to bite him.
X did feel guilty about having Zero watch out for him all the time. Zero use to always go out without him, especially at the later hours of the night. He hadn't done that in ages now. Zero hadn't been out to have his `usual' fun; he knew that's what his Sempai and Storm Eagle had been on about at lunch earlier.
“How many is that?” Zero for once; seem amused as he spoke, handing over another can to X, who stared at him a little bemused.
“I…I dunno”, he replied, a little vague. Zero scoffed, still amused. X drinking for as long as him was like challenging an alcoholic to a drink off. Something that never ended well.
“Whatever”, he went back to his own drink; tossing away another can to start another.
“It's my fault”, X sighed, breaking their silence. “You're only home tonight because of me. I heard Storm Eagle telling you about those rookies and…”
Zero looked over, half listening to what was—to him, anyway—just X babbling on. He moved closer to X, who stopped talking and looked at him questioningly.
“I think you've had enough”, he stated sternly, taking X's drink from him, who reached out for it in protest.
“But Zeeeeeero”.
Putting a finger against X's lips let Zero silence the whining. X sunk back into the lounge, Zero eyed him, since X didn't seem like he was going to stay quiet. But surprisingly he did, so Zero went back to mellowing out under the influence of his own drinks.
X sighed to himself, without thinking of consequences he lay down, resting the back of his head in Zero's lap as he looked up him, stupidly grinning.
“Moron”, Zero grunted, trying to ignore him.
“What's better, a guy or girl?”
Zero looked at X again.
“You'd know, right? What'd you prefer?”
“Maybe I'll answer if you can tell me how many drinks you've had”. He scoffed, going back to ignoring him. He looked back to see X was actually attempting to count with his fingers, but seemed to get confused after he passed ten.
“Look, you should just go to bed before you say anything else stupid”. Zero gruffed.
“Will you go to bed with me?”
“No”.
“Can I go to bed with you?”
“That's the same question, stupid”.
Zero pushed X off his lap, getting up to walk away, tossing his empty can in the bin, even though the rest of his cans were still dumped on the floor somewhere for X to pick up when he was actually sober tomorrow.
X had gotten up to pick up some of his own cans off the ground, throwing them out as well. Zero had sat back down before X had come back over. X moved to sit on Zero's lap, facing him, who only looked at him unimpressed.
“Get the fuck off”.
“Get what off? Umm…”
The one thing Zero learnt was when X got drunk, it was full of misfiring. Not understanding that Zero was starting to get fumed; it was amusing at first, but now he was just in his face, but X took his shirt off, still sitting on Zero's lap.
“That's not what I said, fuck-wit”.
“Oh…then what do you want off?” X blushed, innocently.
Zero shoved X to the side; he fell off his lap onto the lounge on his back. Zero hit him a little hard, cause he seemed to not know at first what hit him. Waiting a moment, Zero crawled over X, staring down at him.
“You're just drunk, so do what you're told and go to bed and quit annoying me”.
X looked to him wordless, not really sure to say, but then again, he wasn't sure if he understood exactly what he was saying with such a blank look.
There was a silence.
“X”, Zero began, the other one looked up responsive. “Are you a virgin?”
“Maybe…I don't really know”.
“You don't know?” Zero's test to see how effected he really was, proved he was out of it.
“Well, I can't remember, no”.
The only reason X had been so easy going about the intimate position he was in was because the alcohol had him forget about the incidents from over the past month. Zero considered his options. X may or may not remember tonight come morning, if he did and he got his full senses back, it might cause trouble for him; seeing as having sex had only been one bad experience after the other.
Zero got off of him, exiting the room. X sat up, only he decided to follow.
“Go to bed”, Zero ordered knowing X was behind him. He was deciding to call it a night himself. He lay down, hoping X would just leave him alone. But he heard him crawl in bed beside him.
“God fucking dammit, X!” he turned around, hitting X across the face. He recoiled, covering his face with his hands, trying to avoid a second assault. Zero paused from hitting him again, pulling X's hands away from his face as he climbed on top of him.
“Z…Zero…” X breathed, seeming flustered. He was absolutely submitted like this. And that look on his face left him desirable.
He lent down, kissing into X's neck, who immediately moaned in response, repeating Zero's name again. X wrapped his arms around Zero, offering himself as Zero continued to kiss his body. He pulled back, watching X's reaction.
“Are we going to…?” X asked, his breathing already hastier. Zero ran his hands down X's body. Getting rid of the remainder of clothing. He was waiting for X to flinch at that, but he didn't. The sight would've gotten anyone hot. Zero thought about what he'd do with him, taking off his own clothes, to lean their bodies against each other. X shivered as a hand ran down his side, over his hip and curved to his inner thigh.
“Oh gods…hurry up”. Even if was the alcohol talking, Zero ran a hand to tease over X's entrance, making the other one buck with a moan. Complaining at Zero's teasing method.
Zero sat up, reminding himself how pathetically drunk X was. X looked up disappointed as he got up, looking at Zero, pouting.
“If you wanna play this game, fine, do something useful”, X was yanked forward, his head pushed down. But he knew by how he was positioned what he was being ordered to. Drunk or not, he hadn't done it before, but opened his mouth and let Zero's light grip of him lead him forward. He closed his eyes worried he wouldn't do something right. But Zero uttered something in a breathy whisper, encouraging X as he enveloped his partner within his mouth. Only guessing what to do, before growing in confidence to continue.
By the end of it, he swallowed what he could, wiping the rest away with his hand at the end, a flushed look on his face, knowing what he had just done, wondering if he should regret it or not. But it made up for the fact Zero couldn't have gone out tonight; or take up Storm Eagle's offer on the new rookies. Zero pushed X down, forcing him to lie down.
“Go to sleep”.
“But…”
Zero lay down next to him, drawing him in. X would've protested more if he could've kept awake. Exhausted and the alcohol in his system, not agreeing with the late hour either, his objection ended in him submitting to Zero's hold. Moaning his name before he fell asleep against his will. Zero ran his hand down X's body again, admitting it was unnaturally perfect. And no wonders Sigma had wanted it. He himself, could see some fun things he could use it for himself. He smirked.

X groaned as he woke up. He basically knew what happened the night before, even if certain details were a tad blurry in parts. He rubbed his eyes, then focused on trying to fight off the migraine he had.
“Enjoying your hangover?” Zero asked, sneeringly as he walked back into the room. X felt a little embarrassed since Zero had already gotten dressed, and he still wasn't. By the sour look on his face, Zero didn't need an answer.
“Take an aspirin, it'll get rid of that headache at least”.
Zero held out one in offer, but X blankly stared at it. Freezing up.
“I…I…I'll be fine”, Zero titled his head, trying to read what had left X so fearful. But he realized it was the tablet. After the drugging incident he didn't blame him. He shrugged and took the offer back.
“Hurry up and get dressed”.
X waited a moment before getting out of bed and fetched some clothes. His headache killing him, but he felt a little stupid knowing how he behaved the night before. He worried if that changed anything between him and his Sempai. He had said some stupid things. Sighing, he walked out into the main room.
They grabbed their own breakfast before sitting down. Zero had started without him. X sat down to join him, but he couldn't help but notice a different taste in his mouth. He hoped Zero didn't notice how that left him blushing. He remembered what they did last night clearly, and he wished he'd tried to wash the taste out before attempting to eat.

Author's Note: For once, nothing THAT bad happens to X, besides being embaressed at the end, hahah. The REAL plot starts kicking in next chapter. Yes, this story has a plot! It's kinda an appropriation, it's heavily based off X1, but draws elements from all the games into one. Like, you'll meet Dynamo around chapter nine. It's not true to just one game, but hopefully you're enjoying it either way!!
