CHAPTER EIGHT:
He didn't sleep that night, despite how exhausted that left him. He was still in Zero's arms, but felt so distant. X's experience with physical connection like that, especially his first time, had been a horrible encounter. He cursed himself for thinking it could be any different with someone else.
Even Zero.
Saying it was out of love was a lie; he should've tried to stop it, but had let it go on several days before spilling his heart out. Only to have it ripped apart in front of him. Zero had always been blunt, said hurtful things. But what he said was just cruel, in its most raw and merciless form.
And it was at that moment X had come to the conclusion love was something that didn't exist. He confused those nights with Zero as love, while he saw now, it was only lust that had Zero show any interest in him. X mused that maybe that was all he was driven on too…just desire or something…but even if that was the case, why was it when he was shot down like that, he felt something inside of him die that moment. Something break apart. An unkind feeling he couldn't describe.
At least Zero was asleep and wasn't watching him cry. Zero tended to get angry with him when he cried; he got annoyed with that easily. X wiped at his tears, feeling stupid, violated, and used.
He was completely used.
Again.
And it was gnawing at him, the fact he went through the act more than once was leaving him sick. Left hating himself for going through with it, even enjoying and wanting it. How stupid could he be? Not only that, he'd been marked by Zero. Claimed. After their first time Zero made the point of saying that X now belonged to him. And X realized he was right. Now just a possession, something someone else owned…
X wiped at is tears to dry his face. Sighing in his defeat. Reminding himself again:
There was no such thing as love.
***
When morning came he didn't say anything, not even a morning greeting like usual. X didn't want to get out of bed, but forced himself, knowing Zero would probably get angry at him for not doing what he was told. And that always resulted in something painful for him. And right now he hurt enough, his own thoughts killing him as he tried to comprehend everything that had happened to him, but failing.
X couldn't pull back; Zero had forced him into a kiss again before they left for work. Hating the fact he wanted it, yet deep down knowing this was wrong. Everything about being with Zero now was just wrong. That killed him inside.
“Lets go”. X nodded, letting Zero take his hand and lead him out of the apartment. He sometimes wondered why he put up with it. But also thought what would he be without Zero around? He wouldn't have a purpose…he…
The thoughts consumed him, and X was slowly coming to the conclusion; while there was no love shared between them, he still needed to be with Zero. Still wanted to be with him.
It was all he knew…
All he had…
***
When they didn't have a mission, Zero had been making a point to force X to keep training. HQ was down in its count of ace hunters. X, obedient, as always, did what he was told. Doing whatever Zero asked of him without question. He'd been pleased with himself when he saw improvements, leaving him hopefully to actually pass the exam to be ranked in the A class. He use to want to reach that so badly, but hesitation had always knocked him down. Eventually, he gave up on the idea completely, even when he was given Zero as his sempai. However once with him, and when he became certain of deeper feelings towards him, X changed his mind again, wanting to succeed, and gain praise from Zero; something that was beyond rare. Things were different again. X felt so distant, so disconnected from him…from everything. And that desire too, no longer existed.
Zero still had enough power over him to make him keep training. He figured getting stronger had its perks, seeing as being weak had gotten him in so much trouble lately. Zero had always been the one to save him. Once, just once…X wanted to think he could rely on himself.
X knew when he got a very small compliment, he should've been happy that day. It use to be all it took to get him to smile. But X had to fake it, letting Zero take his hand and lead him home again come evening. They didn't talk again. And X admitted he was thankful, he didn't want to talk. Didn't want anything. He felt empty, still hurting, knowing he lost something the night before, something shattered and he didn't know what. Didn't know why he was hurting and kept wanting to cry.
X took his helmet off, letting his brown locks fall out. It was still in his hands, he was going to put it down but instead it was knocked violently from his hands, crashing to the floor. Zero drew X in closer to him, who remained wordless. Moving his hands to start slipping X's armor off of him. He shivered to the touch and the feel of being stripped again; leaving him in only the light clothing he had been wearing underneath.
H-he didn't…didn't…
“Still always shy as ever”, Zero huskily noted to the shiver X had made when his armor was discarded to the ground. He drew X in kissing him deeply, running hands down his back. X shit his eyes tightly, his thoughts racing.
He didn't…
He didn't want this anymore.
Zero purred to the contact of his hands over X's body, ignoring X's change in character towards this. X put his hands against Zero's chest, pushing to try and separate the hold he was captured in. Trying to put distance between them. It didn't work, Zero over powered him, like usual, forcing him into kissing again. X fought against the sensation, trying not to give into it. He managed to succeed in not being intoxicated like usual as he was released to gasp for air. X knew Zero's intensions didn't end with a kiss though…
“W-wait”, X stuttered, Zero already working to get rid of the clothing barrier between them. X blushed, but tried to push away from Zero's strong hold, reminding himself of his revulsion to the practice he was about to be forced into. He looked up to Zero; who wasn't taking a liking to the defiance. At first he wasn't sure what to do. Everything inside him screaming he didn't want this, he didn't want to be used again. And that left him afraid of Zero. X pulled back against the hold. Zero didn't seem impressed that X was continuing this little game.
“N-no, I don't…j-just stop!” X managed to pull free, stumbling back a few steps. But once free he was frozen, unsure of what to do next. His thoughts incised as Zero struck him, the blow hitting him to the ground.
“Not sure what gave you the idea you could throw orders around, sunshine”, Zero darkly began, snagging X's hair to pull him up to look at him. X winced, his hands moving to grab at Zero's grasp on him; not that he was strong enough to pry the hold off. Zero kneed X in the gut, winding him again, before he threw X down to the ground, who tried to recover. But X was shoved down as Zero pushed his foot down on his back.
“Let me go!” X cried, for the first time seriously speaking up for himself. “I don't want this, you can't use me!!”
He struggled against the weight holding him down, Zero having bent down to pull X's arm behind his back, yanking it too far, making it as painful as possible. X winced, but tried resisting the urge to scream. Not wanting to give into Zero's force anymore.
Wanting to be strong for once.
Zero dragged X up, a furious expression to his face. X had an impudent look still in his eyes, an unbroken stare, even as Zero struck his face. X recoiling back, grasping his face, tasting the metallic tang of blood in his mouth, wincing in pain. He tried to stand his ground. Not giving in. Even if he was beaten, he didn't want to give himself up anymore. Didn't want to be used by anyone any longer.
The beating continued, X thrown against the wall, punches striking him, a grasp of his hair pulling him forward, before driving his head back forcefully into it again, a winded gasp the only thing escaping him before he was discarded on the ground, feeling a forceful stomp on his head, driving him down when he tried to get up.
“Had enough yet?”
“All you did was use me…you don't care!!”
“Obviously, you stupid little fuck”, Zero lent down, forcing X to look at him “Don't tell me you've been confusing `love' and lust with each other?”—He laughed at him darkly and cruelly—“What did you honestly think we were doing?”
“…”
“You wanted it too, you begged, you let me do you. So quit bawling over it”.
X shook his head, fighting the worn expression on his own face. Zero sighed in his haunting amusement.
“Guess you like me abusing you then?”
He threw X's head down again, the younger one attempted to move again after recovering from the blow. Zero pinned him down again. He got a lock around his neck from behind, jerking him back, conflicting the weight of Zero still pinning X down. He gagged, only letting the blood in his mouth drip out. Zero dropped him, and X was left gasping. He tried to get up, Zero striking his face again, X meeting against the wall again as he fell back. He couldn't count how many times he was repetitively hit after that. Only that the senses were getting knocked out of him more and more. Why he'd tried so hard to stand up to Zero, he couldn't over power him, and barely had it in him to endure any more abuse. Finding himself unable to hold tears back, putting his arms over his head to try and protect himself from Zero's thrashes.
It seemed the fatigue finally kicked in when X fell forward, dropping to his hands and knees, panting for breath, unable to stop his sobs from escalating into more defined wails.
“N-no more…please”, he begged between breaths. Zero cupped X's chin, forcing him into another kiss with him, the kiss' taste now conjured with X's blood. Zero let him go, wiping the blood from his lips. X was completely worn. He wanted to fight him, but couldn't.
“So, going to behave now, princess?”
X paused, averted his gaze and nodded weakly.
He let himself be dragged to his feet, lead to the bedroom where he was shoved down, and the bloody clothes he'd been wearing discarded. He was exhausted from the abuse, and couldn't fight it as Zero lapped at the blood, kissing his body over. He shut his eyes tight, and wished to somehow not be where he was. And wanting this to hurry up and be over. Because of his disobedience, Zero went on him anything but easy. X did his best to stifle his cries, but Zero knew what to do to make him scream as he forced his way with him. X sobbing, feeling absolutely ruined, competently used. He grasped at the sheets on his sides, failing at keeping his breath steady under the more erotic assault.
He was brought to moans, Zero's actions having X's body betray him in its own quest for pleasure through the pain. X straddled his legs around Zero, groaning in an incoherent beg for more. X was hating the fact he knew he was enjoying this now, where he should be repulsed and trying to escape still.
X threw his head back and screamed, Zero getting more forceful, and he found himself on the edge. Zero kissing into his neck, moaning, X found his resolve snap, and after screaming out again, he ended up dropping back on the bed, completely spent and gasping for breath.
“Now, was that so hard?” X didn't reply, having rolled over to hide his face in the pillow as he sobbed. Feeling beyond used, but it didn't muffle the sounds of him whimpering like he'd hoped it would.
“Don't act so beat, X. You enjoyed it. You should be thankful anyone wants to take someone like you, princess”.
X felt himself freeze to the words. He sat up, looking back at Zero with a pained look.
“Things that are useless and unwanted are usually discarded”, Zero moved in, pulling X into an embrace. He went to fight, but submitted soon after. “If I didn't keep you, who would?”
Suddenly X began to believe what Zero was telling him. Believing every calculated word that had Zero winning in monopolizing him; X not realising that as its hidden intension and purpose.
X believed him…that Zero was right and he wasn't worth much at all, he didn't know why he was created, and had never found a purpose. He stayed a Hunter because he had nothing else he could do with his life. He believed how worthless he was as Zero continued to tell him lies. Believing he was lucky to have Zero show any sign of interest in him. X surrendered to Zero's hold, kissing back the next time his lips were taken. Now that X had stopped crying, Zero wiped away the remnant of his small episode from before, drying his face. X looked up in defeat, but forced himself to smile to the one that owned him.
“I'm sorry…” X apologised. Zero ran a hand through his hair, his dark smile returning.
“Just learn how to behave”.
X nodded in his silent reply. Zero got up, leaving X alone in bed a moment, left to let everything that had just happened sink in. Allowing Zero, when he returned, to bandage his wounds from his earlier `lesson' he had beaten into him.
X lay down next to Zero, trying to find contentment in his current situation. Giving into the sensation Zero's kisses gave him, letting himself be overwhelmed and intoxicated by them.
“HQ's been interested in getting more A-rank hunters in the force”, Zero began, X looked up to the change of subject. “Seeing you've been improving, I think you should try the test again, princess”. X considered Zero's words, startled a moment when they were interrupted as Zero pulled him close, the contact of their bare bodies leaving X blushing. “Pass, and you'll get a nice reward, sweet-heart”.
X looked away when his blush amplified, knowing what Zero's offer meant. He turned back to him. Zero's tone had changed; no longer as dominant as it was throughout the abuse. He liked it when Zero showed him this kindness—fake or not—it made him feel safe somehow. He nuzzled into the hold, smiling. Zero rarely offered praise, but surely he'd be impressed if he actually passed? He wanted Zero to be happy with him. He wanted to prove he was worth something…even if just something to him. X weakly smiled. Any defiance he may have still clung to, diluted now.
This was all he had now, and all he'd ever get to have.
Just Zero…
Nothing else.
Sighing, X let his exhaustion lead him to sleep.
He didn't mind.
After all, in the end love was strange like that.

Author's note: Of course Zero can easily manipulate X like that…such a strange relationship, yet they develop a caring for one another over this story, its twisted in its own way, but something they both end up content with. Zero is defiantly a bastard, hahah! X is getting used right now, oh dear…
