Cruel Paradise

A cool night breeze rustled in the trees. Takaya and Yuzuru laid side by side in the grass behind their school, staring up at the sky. "Thanks for hanging out with me these last couple of days, Takaya," Yuzuru said softly.

"It's no big deal," Takaya shrugged it off. "I want to make sure you're alright." He glanced at his friend, who smiled at him. He was glad to see that Yuzuru seemed back to himself. Takaya didn't understand how he always managed to stay so calm. It had only been a couple of days since the Hojo clan had been destroyed, and already Yuzuru was back to the same happy person he was before the whole ordeal began.

Takaya had frozen the Seed of the Evil Kings inside Yuzuru. Still, he felt obligated to spend most of his time with his friend to make sure he was safe. Besides, he'd promised Naoe that he would look after him. Naoe...

As they gazed up at the stars, Yuzuru couldn't help but notice that Takaya seemed preoccupied. "Have you seen Naoe since we've been back?" he finally asked.

"No, I haven't seen him since the other day," Takaya replied. "Last time I saw him, he said something about finding out what the Warlords were planning."

"Oh," Yuzuru replied. The sad look on Takaya's face made him wish he hadn't even brought it up. Yuzuru turned to face Takaya. "You can stay the night at my house if you'd like," he offered, putting his hand on his friend's shoulder.

Takaya put his hand over Yuzuru's. It felt good to have someone touch him. He'd felt so lonely and empty inside for the last couple of days. He squeezed Yuzuru's hand. "You're a good friend, Yuzuru," he said quietly, glancing at his friend's moonlit face.

Takaya rolled onto his side to face Yuzuru. He slid over and laid his head in the crook of Yuzuru's neck. He sighed at the feeling of security that lying against Yuzuru gave him. He felt his friend's arm hesitate before curling around his back, pulling him closer. "Yuzuru?" Takaya murmured into his friend's neck.

"Hm?" Yuzuru replied.

"I'm still confused about who I am," Takaya sighed. "Is Takaya your best friend...or is it Lord Kagetora?" Tears pooled in his eyes.

Yuzuru moved onto his side to face Takaya. "We've already been through this. I don't see you as two different people...I see you as my best friend Takaya," he reassured him. "You need to stop doing this to yourself. You are you. Kagetora and Takaya...different names, but the same person. Understand?"

Takaya wanted to believe it was that simple, he really did. But, when Naoe had admitted that he loved him on the dock that day, Takaya wondered who the words were meant for. He couldn't help but feel an overwhelming envy for Lord Kagetora at that moment.

Yuzuru stared at his friend sympathetically. It was obvious that he was confused. He wished there was some way he could help him. With his thumb, he wiped away a tear that had spilled down Takaya's cheek. "Please don't cry," he whispered.

Takaya began to sob. "Where'd Naoe go, anyway?" he mumbled through his tears. "He just left me on the dock, and hasn't even tried to find me." He looked into Yuzuru's eyes, panicked. "What if he never wants to see me again?" he worried out loud. "I don't think I could take it."

Yuzuru held his friend in his arms. "Sh," he comforted him. Takaya wrapped his arms around Yuzuru, returning his embrace. After a few minutes, Takaya's sobs subsided.

Takaya gazed into Yuzuru's eyes. "I'm so lucky to have such a good friend," he said softly, stroking Yuzuru's hair. "I am ashamed of my behavior. Please forgive me."

"There's no reason to be ashamed. A lot of things have happened, and it's scary," Yuzuru reassured him.

When Takaya stared back at Yuzuru, he was overcome by a sudden urge to kiss his friend. What is wrong with you, Takaya? Don't do this. He slowly moved his face toward Yuzuru's, closing his eyes as he did. He softly pressed his lips against his friend's, surprised when Yuzuru didn't pull away.

Instead, Yuzuru's mouth opened against his, allowing his tongue entrance. Takaya rolled Yuzuru onto his back, pinning him into the grass as their kiss continued.

Takaya kept telling himself to stop, but he couldn't. He wanted to see what it felt like to kiss a man. He wondered if kissing Naoe would be like this. Naoe... His breaths were heavy as his kiss became more desperate. He pressed his body against Yuzuru's so hard, he thought he might suffocate...yet he was still unable to stop.

Saori was taking a short cut through the schoolyard on her way from Yuzuru's house. He wasn't at home, and she thought he must be somewhere in the neighborhood, so she'd set out to look for him. She figured he'd probably be hanging out with Takaya as he did most of the time.

As she walked around the corner to the back of the school, she noticed something moving in the grass. She stopped, and hid behind the corner, trying to make out what it was. Her jaw dropped with shock when she recognized Takaya and Yuzuru in the moonlight. She was stunned to see Takaya on top of Yuzuru, kissing him. Yuzuru...is...with Takaya? How can this be? I don't understand.

She watched them with disbelief. Finally, no longer able to take it, she ran back the way she'd come. Yuzuru. Why, Yuzuru?

Takaya suddenly pulled away from Yuzuru. What have I done? "Yuzuru..." he whispered. "I'm so sorry. Please forgive me," he bowed his head with shame.

Yuzuru reached up to stroke Takaya's face. "Don't apologize," he replied, smiling at Takaya. "I'm just happy to comfort you," he whispered. I know you miss Naoe. I can see how lonely you are.

Takaya got off of Yuzuru. Both men sat up. After a few moments of awkward silence, Takaya finally spoke. "We should get going. Your parents are probably worried."

They stood, setting out for Yuzuru's house.

Saori ran down the street, tears spilling down her cheeks, when she noticed headlights behind her, as if someone was following her. She turned to see if it was someone she knew. The car pulled up next to her, and the passenger door opened. "Get in," the man's voice called out. "I'll give you a ride home." She was relieved to see a familiar face.

Saori wiped away her tears and got into the car. "Thank you," she replied, closing the car door. "What are you doing out this late, Naoe?" she asked.

"I was actually on my way to Yuzuru's house," he replied.

"Well, he's not there," she snapped.

Naoe shot her a concerned look. "Is everything alright?" he asked.

Saori didn't answer. She still couldn't believe what she'd seen. Takaya kissing her Yuzuru. How dare Takaya do something like this. He knew that she liked Yuzuru. "My house is right there," she finally spoke, pointing to a house up ahead.

Naoe pulled in front of her house and stopped. He turned to Saori. "Are you sure you're okay? You look very distraught."

Saori looked down. "I'm alright. I'm just a little upset right now," she sniffled. "I saw Yuzuru and Takaya at the school, and..." her voice trailed off.

"Were they hurt?" he asked, worried.

Saori shook her head, tears welling again.

Naoe was relieved to hear they weren't injured. "Then, what happened that has you so upset?" he asked, his voice calm.

"I saw them..." she choked back a sob. "I saw them..."

Naoe didn't like the way this was going. He had to force himself to remain patient. "You saw them what?" he asked.

Saori took a deep breath. "I saw them...kissing," she whispered.

"Kissing?" Naoe repeated in a tone of voice that frightened Saori. "Are you sure?" he asked. "Tell me everything!" he demanded.

Saori nodded. "They were lying in the grass behind the school. Takaya was on top of Yuzuru, and they were kissing. I'm positive it was them," she explained.

Naoe felt a horrible rage building inside him. "I need to go," he said flatly. His pulse raced as his anger increased.

Saori thanked him, and jumped out of the car, startled when the tires squealed as Naoe sped off.

Naoe was so pissed off, he could hardly see straight. Tears stung his eyes. Lord Kagetora. I told you that I love you. When will you learn that I won't let anyone else have you...ever!

He slammed on the brakes when he reached the school. I'm going to kill you both! Kagetora, how could you do this to me? Tears streamed down his cheeks by the time he got out of the car. He ran around to the back of the school, but saw nobody. They must be on their way to Yuzuru's house. He ran back to his car, taking off toward Yuzuru's house.
