OCTOBER 13 UNIVERSAL CENTURY 0079 :: SOLOMON SPACE
The four people on the Komusai could feel the excitement. They knew where they were going, and what they were doing.
“This is amazing!” shouted one of the seated figures.
“We're actually going to Earth this quickly after Basic Training?” A more somber looking man cocked his head over to the other side.
“It only makes sense. Pilots are dropping left and right now that the Feddies have their own suits.” A young woman who seems much stronger than most other females pipes in,
“No kidding. Do you think we'll see that white one the higher ups are so worried about?”
“I don't think so, the ship it's riding in is still on the other side of the continent.”
A moment later, and the voice of the pilot began to speak through the intercom.
“Just letting you guys know, we're now five hundred miles over the Denver Research and Development Center, and will be landing in about three minutes.”
A man sitting in the back, who looked pale as soon as the ship hit the atmosphere now vomited into a sack as turbulence began to rock the drop ship. The first man leaned over.
“You okay? Just a few more minutes and we'll be on the ground.”
After giving a reassuring smile, the ship began to decelerate. When the Komusai landed in the docking area and was being taxied to a waiting loading bay, the five people began to dart their eyes to and from, seeing things they'd only seen on video screens and pictures in books: snow, mountains, deer, and so many kinds of birds that they felt like they were still in the sky.
As the novelty of the sight wore off, the hatch of the ships hold opened. A pleasant looking man in a Zeon officer's uniform entered the seating area and spoke to them.
“I'd like to personally welcome you to the Denver Research Center. My name is Lieutenant Dennis Angelos, and I'll be acclimatizing you to not only your mission, but also living outside of the space colonies. I'll call out your names, and you can grab one of these special security keycards that'll not only allow you access to the base, but also access to the Mobile Suit hangars. Captain Mark Carter, please take your card and exit through the hatch.” The largest of the five got out of his seat, took the card and exited.
“Lieutenant Tasha Walenczi.” The muscular woman repeated the motion.
“Ensign Peter Wolf, please come forward.” The sickly fellow now composed himself and grabbed his card.
“Lastly, Ensign James Hayter, could you come forward?” The young, eager man grabbed his card.
“Welcome to Earth,” said the lieutenant.
Meanwhile, not far away, a transport truck checks its way through the defense outpost at the edge of the base. A guard peers at the identification card given to him, then at the driver. They seem the same: lank, well tanned face, sharp features, smooth black hair.
“So, this is your last day on the base?” asked the rotund, yet keen-eyed guard.
“Yeah, I'm having to transport this Zaku over to California Base where I'm being transferred.”
“You're not going alone are you? That's mighty dangerous for a pretty lady like yourself.” Giggling slightly, she smiles and replies.
“Oh, no. I'm joining a special convoy a few miles north of here.”
“Well, you be safe and tell those guys at California base to send over some of those cannons we've been promised.” With that, the vehicle and its payload depart through the snow. Looking through the rearview mirror, the woman sees that the base has completely disappeared from sight behind a sheet of snow. The intelligence on the weather conditions for today was correct. After ensuring that she wasn't being followed, the driver suddenly turns the wheels of her truck off the trail and into a ravine inside one of the mountains. A radio lying next to her begins to chatter and hiss as an audible voice speaks out.
“How is the mission proceeding?” A mischievous smile comes across the woman's face as she lifts the radio.
“Just as expected, I have the information, and a little bonus courtesy of the Zeon's armory.”
“Very good, head to the rendezvous point and await further instructions.”
