Chapitre 1: Pain… darkness… silence.

Dear Diary,
today marks one year since that horrible day…the Day of Darkness. I remember it clearly, and I'm certain that the other scouts do also. The Day of Darkness… even writing it on paper causes a cold sweat to appear on my forehead and my hands to feel like ice. Thinking of that day brings back too many bad memories. But with those memories comes a great relief, with which I am happy to say was enough to last me this long.
What can I say, Diary? I want to tell the other scouts how I feel about the one-year anniversary, but I think that I shouldn't. I'm considering their well being. How would they react if I brought it up so suddenly? Wait a minute, I never shared my story with you, did I Diary? I'd forgotten that I started writing to you three months after that day. Maybe I should start over from the beginning.

It was March 12th of the year 2004. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom, falling everywhere. Birds were chirping, children were playing in the parks while their parents watched over them, enjoying the spring air. It seemed to be a curtain of defiance, now that I think about it. All of that peacefulness and cheer, and all the while a deathly battle raged on.

It was a short while after the Starlights and Princess Kinmoku went back home. The evil in Tokyo had gone again, at least for a little while. That was to be expected. What we hadn't expected was a massive attack mere days from the battle with Chaos.

We were all hanging out at the Crown Café, talking about how glad we were for a break from all the negative energy that Chaos had inflicted on all of us, hoe sore we were from fighting, stuff like that. Just as Usagi-chan was finishing her fourth sugary sweet ice cream sundae and Rei-chan was commenting on how fat Usagi-chan was going to make herself, we all felt a sudden burst of negative energy fill the entire room. It was so enormously great in its power that we had all felt like we were being weighed down. Even Makoto-san and Haruka-san looked like they were having trouble sitting up straight in their seats.

“What is that…surge of negativity that I'm feeling?” Rei said as she pulled out some of her Sacred Scrolls.

“Ami-san,” Setsuna asked me, “Is the source of this evil emitting from this room?”

I pulled out my visor and scanned the café. I shook my head. “It seems to be coming from outside,” I said to her.

“That's what I feared.”

I remember the looks on their faces when she said that, and almost instantly we all ran outside. Now thinking about it, we should have stayed in the café.

Once we were outside, the negativity noticeably increased. The air, once so warm and comforting, had turned deathly cold. The clear blue sky had turned dark and morose. I thought for a moment that I was in some sick dream; a true nightmare. I remember looking around and seeing that all of the civilians were gone. They were all in Crown Park, apparently. A parade had attracted the people's attention, I learned later.

Everything seemed fine. Except for the negativity, everything at least seemed normal. Then it happened; something picked up on my visor. I looked where the source of all this evil was and pointed.

“Look over there!” I had said. No sooner had all nine pairs of eyes looked in the direction that I was pointing in than a young man, seemingly a teenager, appeared. His face was so elegant and beautiful. The air about him screamed of aristocracy. But we all knew by now that looks could be deceiving.

He smiled strangely at us. “Good evening, ladies. I see that you are all enjoying your last day alive.”

“Who are you?” Haruka-san demanded.

He frowned. “I am Prince Hideaki, ruler of the entire universe, and the one who will destroy you all before this day is over. And who are you?”

As if in response, we all transformed into our Neo forms, which we ironically acquired right after the fight with Chaos. The only ones who didn't were Usagi-chan and Mamoru-sama, who changed into their Silver Millennium forms.

“Mercury Neo Power!”
“Mars Neo Power!”
“Jupiter Neo Power!”
“Venus Neo Power!”
“Saturn Neo Power!”
“Uranus Neo Power!”
“Neptune Neo Power!”
“Pluto Neo Power!”

We all stood before Prince Hideaki then, power evident in our very beings. Everything seemed like old times. An enemy shows up, says he's going to destroy the earth and us along with it, we destroy said enemy, and the world goes on without knowing there was a single ripple in the space/time continuum. Same old, same old. But why did it seem like something was so very wrong and different about that day?

“We are the Sailor Scouts!” Princess Serenity declared proudly, as if she couldn't feel what I had felt. Maybe it was the ice cream acting up… She continued, “We protect this world from people like you and your evil ways. We will triumph over all that is against us— and that means you!” I was amazed that she said the changed line like it was nothing, like we were not about to fight our maker.

Prince Hideaki laughed sinisterly. “You imbeciles seriously think that you can defeat me?! All of your power combined cannot even amount to half of mine!”

“We'll have to see about that! Sweet Serenity Jamboree!” Serenity sent her new attack and hit him square in the face. “Dusted,” she said as smoke surrounded the prince. Then she gasped when he walked out from the smoke unscathed.

“What was that?” Hideaki asked indifferently.

“Wha?! You're supposed to be dusted! Eternal Peace Treaty—!” Before Serenity could finish her second attack, Hideaki was right in front of her. He had caught her off guard, and before any of us could react, he placed a hand on her face and blasted her. Serenity was had endured full impact, and from where I was, it looked like she was okay. But then, she slowly sank to her knees. Suddenly, she started to disappear. She dissipated into, how we used to say, moon dust. It had happened so quickly that I had the thought of it being a nightmare once again. Every part of my body at that moment screamed for me to throw myself at him and fight for all that it was worth. But what happened next made me rethink that idea—but only a little.

“S-s-serenity…” Prince Endymion had choked. Without thinking, and without any consideration, he lunged himself at Hideaki, wielding his sword at the same time. Unbeknownst to us, Prince Hideaki had a sword of his own. His movements were lightning quick, and Endymion too met his end then and there.

While this was going on, Neo Pluto said to all of us solemnly, “I knew this day would come. I have a plan, but everyone has to cooperate for this to work.” We all nodded our heads in understanding, for we knew that our lives were depending on that plan. She spoke as quickly as possible, pain evident in her face from having seen the end of our future king and queen. No, I had told myself. If her plan came about successfully, like she said it would, there would be a day when we would see our future king and queen again.

Prince Hideaki turned to us. “Eight Sailor Scouts left. Let me guess, you're going to fight, right? Or will you choose to run and hide to avoid meeting your doom?”

“We'll never run from the likes of you! Ha!” Neo Mars declared as she sent a thousand of her fire powered Sacred Scrolls hurtling in his direction. He dodged them easily.

“Is that the best you can do?” he taunted.

Neo Jupiter smirked. “Not even close! Attack!”

While Neo Mars was attacking Hideaki with her scrolls, Neo Pluto was powering up her Time Staff. The first attack had been part one of a decoy. This was part two.

“Mercury Tsunami Crush!”
“Mars Sniper Emblaze!”
“Jupiter Blight Revolt!”
“Venus Heart Break!”
“Saturn Solemn Dream!”
“Uranus Chronic Blast!”
“Neptune Saltwater Strike!”

We had all attacked things that were above Hideaki so they would have the possibility of falling on him. But to no avail. The young prince sidestepped, dodged, jumped onto, and even under the things that were directed towards him. Then came the counterattack.

Hundreds of tiny, purple/black orbs formed in his right hand. A feeling of dread appeared in my stomach. That feeling grew when he released his attack and darkness fell upon us all. Pain had seared through me as five or six of those orbs hit my left arm, deadening it forever more. I realized then that if we didn't buy Pluto more time, we would never have a chance to see Serenity and Endymion again.

More orbs headed my way. I tried dodging them, but it was no use. They hit me several times on my stomach, and twice on my right leg. When another orb hit my left arm, I realized that the orbs couldn't hurt me, so I used my broken arm to shield myself. It didn't matter anymore if the darkness hit my left arm again; I couldn't feel a thing. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Neo Uranus, Neo Neptune, and Neo Saturn protecting Neo Pluto from the darkness. Neo Mars, Neo Jupiter and Neo Venus were still trying to break Hideaki's barrier by attacking him relentlessly. I started to help them.

“Mars Sniper Emblaze!”
“Jupiter Blight Revolt!”
“Venus Heart Break!”
“Mercury Tsunami Crush!”

As our attacks hit Hideaki dead on and caused an explosion from the combining of the four elements, Neo Pluto finally opened her portal and we all entered as quickly as possible, except for Neo Venus, who stayed back for a second look. I turned to look at her from inside the portal.

Hideaki appeared out the smoke and saw only Neo Venus. He failed to see me in the portal behind her. He smirked. “Looks like you were the only one who had the guts to stay and really fight.”

She shook her head at him. She winced in pain as she shifted her weight on and off her wounded leg. She managed to make a cute face, as she remarked, “Not even! But like Mars said before, we don't run from our enemies; we retaliate!” As she jumped into the closing portal, she turned and looked at him in a sensual way. Then she blew a kiss in his direction. “Later, Aki-chan!”

“Aki-chan?” he growled. That impertinent fool! Still… she was quite a looker. He shook his head. This wasn't over. Suddenly, he was hit full in the face by something. Later on, Minako-chan told us that she had used her old Love and Beauty Shock attack on him.

The only thing I remembered when Neo Venus jumped in after me was a distinct pain in my abdomen. Darkness enveloped me. Then…………silence.
