Naruto laughed gleefully as he jumped and dodged around the Hidden Leaf Village. He had managed to piss off Master Iruka and a few other teachers, who were also chasing him. They were hot on his trail when he suddenly vanished in thin air. Completely perplexed, they went off to search elsewhere. Only Iruka remained, waiting for Naruto to show himself and gloat, which he predictably does. Faithfully, as if on cue, the blonde jumped out from behind a trashcan, laughing and pointing in their direction, not realizing Iruka was right behind him.
"Hahahaha! Those losers couldn't catch me!" He stuck his tongue out and made a peace sign. "Believe it!" Iruka smirked.
"Naruto." He tried not to laugh at the boy's antics. The blue-eyed ninja-in-training jumped in surprise.
"Ah! M-Master Iruka! Where did you come from?" Naruto had spun around, shocked.
"I've been standing here for quite a while now." He replied, seeing the guilty, yet sheepish look on Naruto's face and knew he wasn't going to rat him out. Iruka sighed. "Naruto, why do you have to pull pranks now when we have guests?"
"You mean those other students?" he inquired. "What're they doing here anyway?"
"Naruto, those students are the last remaining survivors of a village nearby that was destroyed, and we still don't know how or why. Our village was the only one in the vicinity that would shelter them; the others assumed they were spies and sent them away. In other words, there's enough going on without you making a nuisance of yourself." Iruka explained. "Promise me you'll stay out of trouble?" Naruto folded his arms defiantly. "Okay, I'll buy you ramen everyday for a whole week if you not only promise, but keep that promise.”
"Okay!" The boy's eyes lit up at the thought of his favorite food. Iruka laughed.
"Starting tomorrow, I have a lot to do today." Iruka explained. "Why don't you go find the neighboring ninjas and show them around?" He ruffled the boy's spiky blonde hair and walked away, leaving Naruto steaming.
Stamping off down the street, muttering about uninvited visitors, Naruto walked past the ramen shop without noticing. He had contemplated going there and getting ramen on Iruka's tab, but thought better of it. The blonde ninja began thinking of the survivors of Nightmare Village and why they were now here. He knew it would be good for their interactive training to be in the Hidden Leaf Village. Naruto was concentrating so hard he didn't notice a smaller boy walking towards him. Unfortunately, they collided and were both knocked to the ground.
"Hey, watch where you're going!" Naruto yelled, jumping to his feet and looking down at the boy. He was going to say more, but the words were caught in his throat.
"I-I'm sorry." The other stated shyly as he slowly got to his feet.
The small boy had stunningly deep amethyst eyes, enhanced beautifully by thick black eyelashes that kissed his pale cheeks delicately. His hair was tall; black spikes with crimson red tips jutted out. Golden bangs flowed to frame his innocent, angelic face. The boy wore skintight black leather pants and a sleeveless onyx tee that stopped a few inches above his belly button. He accessorized with a black, silver studded belt, metal chains on his belt loops, and a thick black dog collar around his pale, creamy neck. Silver armbands emphasized his gold triangular medallion that resembled an upside down pyramid that hung around his neck on a chain.
"A-are you okay?" The boy asked softly, keeping his eyes down.
"I guess." Naruto replied, realizing the contrast between them. "Hey, you're one of the new students from the Village Hidden in the Shadows."
"I-is it that obvious?" The other questioned quietly. "Oh, m-my name's Y-Yugi, by the way."
"I'm Naruto Uzamaki, and someday, I'm gonna be Hokage! Believe it!" Yugi gigged. Naruto frowned. "Hey, what are you laughing at!?" Yugi flinched slightly and looked down.
"S-sorry." Yugi apologized. "I-I've got to go, b-but you could join me, I-if you want."
"Sure, I've got no where else to go." Naruto replied as he started walking alongside Yugi. "Where are we going?"
"To meet up with my friends from my village, or what's left of it." The amethyst-eyed boy answered. Naruto didn't know what to say, so he just nodded.
It took a few minutes for Naruto to realize they were going towards the forest, but he said nothing as he followed Yugi onwards. Judging from the sun through the forest canopy, the blonde genin concluded it was nearly 4pm. It wasn't long before they reached a small clearing where five others were waiting for their small, spiky-haired friend.
"Hey everyone, s-sorry it took so long, b-but I-I'd like you to meet N-Naruto. We met on the way here." Yugi introduced, then caught sight of someone, and ran towards him. "Yami!"
Yami wasn't very tall, only a bit taller then Naruto and looked a lot like Yugi as far as attire, but his eyes were a blood red. His hair resembled Yugi's but the blonde bangs instead shot up against the spikes in lightning bolts. He too wore an exact medallion to match Yugi's. The small spiky-haired boy ran into Yami's arms, burying his face in the taller's chest. The other laughed and tilted the boy's chin, and then brought their lips together softly in a gentle kiss that soon became more heated.
"Come on, you two, get a room." A blonde-haired, honey-eyed boy with an odd accent retorted. He wore a black t-shirt and blue pants, which had an odd gold rod fastened to one of the loops.
"Like your any better with Seto?" Sneered a chocolate-eyed boy. His hair was snow-white long hair that was spiked up a bit. The russet eyes were narrowed sharply. On his body was a pair of tight black jeans, a dark red shirt, and a long black trench coat. Around his neck was a flat golden dream catcher with an Egyptian eye in the center.
"That's not nice, Bakura." A softer looking brown-eyed bow argued. This one could be seen as Bakura's twin, but at a closer look, he wasn't: his hair was just as long, but not spiked at all, and eyes were far more gentle. "Naruto right? This is Bakura, and I'm Ryou." He turned to a brunette with icy hard blue eyes, wearing black pants, a black sleeveless shirt, and a white trench coat that flared out. "That's Seto, and this blond comedian is Joey."
"Nice ta meet ya." The lanky, honey-eyed boy replied.
"Same here." Naruto nodded as Bakura grabbed Ryou and pulled him into his lap. Ryou blushed. "So, uh, are guys in training?"
"We're waiting for the chunin exams to start, so I guess you could say we're training." Yugi answered, having detached his lips from Yami's. "Why? Would you and your team like to have a practice fight?"
"That'd be great. Wait here, I'll go get them." Naruto smiled before taking off to get Sakura and Sasuke.
"What a strange guy." Joey commented offhandedly, turning to Seto, who had a small smile on his lips. "What?"
"Nothing, it's just that, around here, we're probably seen as the strange ones." Seto answered.
"Hey, it's not our fault these people've never seen Shadow Villagers before." Bakura retorted huffily, arms wrapped around Ryou. "I suppose we should get in our teams before Naruto gets back."
"Yeah, and maybe practice a bit too." Yami added.
With that, Yugi, Ryou, and Joey walked to one side of the clearing as Yami, Bakura, and Seto went to the other. They were preparing a few of their special attacks, tossing them at one another easily, knowing they would be dodged. They wondered how well Naruto's team would be and who their trainer was. Their trainers happened to be among the best there was, but the Shadow Villagers weren't sure if they escaped the carnage.
"If they survived, do you think they'd come here?" Yugi asked. No one answered. No one had an answer.
Naruto wandered around the village calling out Sakura and Sasuke's names, wondering where they had gotten. The three of them were supposed to train together that afternoon, but Kakashi, their teacher, canceled it for some unknown reason. Of course, that didn't mean they couldn't practice on their own. He was yelling and running around for quite a while before he finally found them. It was Sasuke who answered first.
"What the hell are you doing, yelling your head off like that?" Sasuke asked. He was wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt and white shorts. His hair was jet-black and spiked up a bit.
"Looking for you, duh." Naruto shot back, "You known those new students from the Village Hidden in Shadows? They want to have a practice match with us right now."
"…Who arranged this?"
"I did, of course, otherwise you'd be getting called by Kakashi." Naruto stated in exasperation.
"Fine, let's find Sakura and get going." He stated, being surprisingly cooperative. 'I wonder about those Shadow Ninjas. I've heard they're pretty powerful, so this should be interesting.'
Of course, since Sasuke was near the school, Sakura was as well, having a habit of never being too far from the young Uchiha. She protested at first, saying there was very little known about genin from the Shadow Village, but gave in when Sasuke pointed out the match was the perfect opportunity for them to learn more about them.
"Oh, Sasuke, you're so smart, I didn't even think of that." She complimented. Naruto pouted as they walked towards the forest where the other two teams were waiting.
"Alright, has everyone got their plan?" Yugi asked his group.
"Yeah, pretty much. It's not much different from our other basic strategies." Ryou replied.
"Well, considering we're up against an enemy we ain't never fought against before, it's probably better to cover the basics, then take it from there." Joey answered him.
"That's true."
"How're you guys fairing over there?" Kaiba asked, "We've got our strategy down."
"Us too." Yugi answered the tall brunette. "All we do now is wait."
As if on cue, Sasuke, Sakura, and Naruto appeared out of the trees and into the clearing. The girl had long pink hair she kept back with the leave village headband. She wore a standard dress for a female Shinobi that was a dark maroon. Susuke had black hair spiked up, white kaki shorts, and a blue tee shirt. He stared at the Shadow Villagers with great scrutiny, as if that would unlock whatever secrets they held.
