Prologue: Aftermath
The village lay in shambles around they’re feet. What had gone so terribly wrong, why…why did everything have to end this way. Sakura looked at the mass of ninja, and konoha citizen alike that lay injured, dying or dead along what used to be the peaceful streets of Konoha.
Outside the village a battle raged on, a battle that was ultimately at a stalemate. “Sasuke! How could you?” Naruto yelled as he tried for another blow. The worn out Sasuke dodged, “How could I? How could this village do what it has done? All these unforgivable acts…”
“People do unforgivable things, but why would you want to kill everyone…even those not involved?”
“You will never understand!”
“Sasuke?!” The two continued on the pointless battle as a heavy sky rained down upon them. In a final attempt they each used the last of their chakra for their ultimate techniques. Even that was not enough; they both lay on the ground pitted in a staring contest. “What happened Sasuke?”
“I was wrong…and someone dear to me paid with their life…I’m a murderer, and those who’ve done this will pay”
“Hasn’t everyone already paid?”
“They could never atone”
“The elders are dead. Orochimaru is dead. Akatsuki, and Itachi are dead.”“That’s exact….”“The two elders are dead. Ero-senin is dead. My parents are dead. Kakashi is dead. Asuma is dead. They’re all dead, and it’s because of us. Not you, not me, us, everything, situations.” Naruto began pulling himself off of the ground. “They’re dead and won’t come back, but I know that they didn’t want us to kill everyone. They wouldn’t want vengeance, they would want peace.”
“How would you know what they want…”“Because I have lost everything close to me…I can’t lose any more.” Naruto stood and with a sigh collected his energy and chakra. Thanks to the sage training he received he was able to save some chakra…although with the nine tail inside of him he had always had much more than most. “Sasuke….you are a traitor to this village, and now, after this…” he paused, “No one will ever allow you to survive. You have done too much wrong.”
“You are going to kill me then?” Sasuke pulled himself to his feet, but all of his chakra was gone. He knew, although he didn’t want to admit, that this fight was over. He lost. They both knew it, Naruto would be the victor.
“No. I can’t, but I can’t take you back. And Sakura…she.” He closed his eyes for a moment. “I don’t want you to die, but I don’t want you here to face the wrong that you have done due to a corrupt world. Leave Sasuke. Leave and never return here. Those who did you wrong are dead, you have no business with anyone here.”
“What will you tell Sakura?” he asked as blood dripped to the ground.
“That I killed you.”
“She will never forgive you.”
“I know. But, that’s my punishment for failing you.” He brought his hands in front of him as he signed a justsu, “Kage bunshin no jutsu” a duplicate appeared and walked over to Sasuke. “My clone will take you far away from here. I will know if you try and escape. I will watch for you Sasuke, and I will know if you ever try to return.”
