Chapter Five: Green Eyes
Naruto rested his head in his arms. The sun had long since disappeared from the sky then reappeared after long hours. He rose to turn on a lamp when he heard the front door open.
“Yueri-chan!” he whispered excitedly as he crept towards the entrance, but to his dismay, the traveler was not Yueri.
“Imooto-san!” a voice cried out. “Where are you?”
Naruto swore under his breath, realizing that this female traveler was not Yueri. He sat back at the table and sighed. Where was Yueri anyway?
“Yueri-chan? Come out, come out, wherever you are!” the voice called again. “Hey, you're not Yueri-chan.”
Naruto looked up at the person the voice belonged to. An older girl, older than Yueri, stood with her hands resting on her hips. A Konoha headband dangled from her belt as she tapped her foot. Black curls, even wilder than Yueri's, were pulled back into a long ponytail. Golden - brown eyes glared down at Naruto, eyes much like those of a wolf's
“You're right, I'm not,” Naruto said.
“Where is she?” the woman demanded slamming her hands down on the table. “Where's my little sister?”
“Little…sister?”
“That's right! I'm Atiska Chamomile, Yueri's older sister. Now where the hell is my little sister?” Chamomile yelled. Naruto shrank back and twitched.
“I don't know!” he told her.
“What do you mean?”
“We had a fight and she ran off! I swear!”
“Who are you?”
“Uzumaki Naruto!”
“You're on my list. You made Yueri-chan upset. Don't make me mad.”
Naruto could've groaned at that moment, but kept it to himself when he saw Chamomile's glare grow stronger. He gulped and pressed his back against the back of his seat.
“Any clue where she is?” Chamomile asked walking about the kitchen.
“Hidden in the Sand, maybe? I don't know,” Naruto answered truthfully.
“She's with Gaara, then she's safe.” Chamomile sighed and rubbed her right palm against her eye. “I just hope she's not too tired that she passes out. Gaara will flip out.”
“What do you mean?” Naruto asked.
Chamomile turned her gaze once more upon Naruto, but this time the golden-brown of her eyes weren't so harsh. “Yueri's weak in her own way. She can call upon wild cats to take her places and she can fight, by the gods can she fight. But her health isn't the best. That's why she worked so hard to become a Medical Nin, to see why she's so weak.”
“Has she?”
“No, she hasn't.” Chamomile sighed and then noticed Naruto's pancakes. “She made you pancakes.”
“She does every morning.”
“Thought so. If you're not going to eat them, I am.” Chamomile plopped into a chair and began eating the pancakes as though she hadn't eaten anything for ages.

Morning light streamed through the windows of the bedroom where Yueri laid. The pale red curtains framing the windows billowed with the desert's early morning breeze. The light shone upon the soft red walls, reflecting the heat of the desert. Silver shimmered upon the lightweight coverings of the futon. Gaara watched Yueri sleep peacefully. He marveled in the way the sunbeams caressed Yueri's face as she slowly began to awake.
Yueri rubbed her eyes and yawned, stretching cat-like in fashion. She sat up and ran her fingers through her hair before her golden eyes met Gaara's pale green.
“Gaara-san? What happened last night? How did I get here? What happened?” Yueri asked as her common sense returned to her. “You didn't violate me did you? Please tell me you didn't take my innocence!”
Gaara's green eyes widened as Yueri's words tumbled from her lips and Yueri could have laughed.
“I'm only teasing you,” Yueri laughed as she saw his eyes widen with disbelief. “One of us has to have the sense of humor.”
Yueri watched Gaara roll his eyes.
“There are clothes for you to wear in the closet. Get dressed and meet me in the plaza,” Gaara said softly before disappearing into an elaboration of golden sands, obscuring his green eyes.
“He is so confusing sometimes,” Yueri muttered to herself, smiling. She laughed softly and shook her head.
Want to grab him and attach yourself to him? Shishi asked. Yueri could sense the smile in the cat demon's voice.
I couldn't, Yueri replied, blushing softly.
Sure you could.
How?
Just grab him and kiss him. Loosen him up a little.
WHAT?!
You heard me!
I'm pretending I didn't hear you say that.
I could've said, throw him on the bed and just start snogging him.
SHISHI!!!!
Yueri sat on the bed and felt a hot blush rush throughout her body. She could hear Shishi laughing again.
Just get dressed and go meet him already! Shishi yelled, awaking Yueri from her thoughts. And stop thinking about shagging Gaara already!
I'm not! Yueri shouted back as she stood up. She opened the closet and found only skirts.
He likes you in skirts apparently.
Shut up.
Yueri sorted through the skirts: long and short. She chose a long, flowing white one with a matching loose fitting white top. She shed the clothes she had fallen asleep in and pulled on her outfit of choice.
Are you wearing a colored bra?
SHISH!! No I am not! I'm wearing a white bra, thank you very much!
Just double checking. Colored bras plus white shirts don't mix.
I know that!
Yueri picked up her sandals and slipped them on before she looked out the window nearest her. She noticed the plaza was beneath the balcony. She looked down and saw Gaara and she felt her cheeks grow warm. She noticed how the morning breeze ruffled his red hair.
Stop it, Yueri.
Stop what?
Yourhormones.
Oh, shut up.
Yueri forced herself away from the window before ambled out of her room and through the confusing hallways. She took several twists and turns before she found herself in the plaza. She raked her fingers through her hair quickly before striding towards Gaara.
“Good morning, Kazekage-sama,” she greeted as she walked up behind him.
“Good to see you awake and dressed,” Gaara replied turning to look at her. A smile tugged at his lips when he saw Yueri dressed in a skirt.
“You have thing for me in skirts, don't you?” Yueri asked bluntly, placing her hands on her hips.
Gaara shrugged and contained a laugh. “I admit that it is a shock to see you in something other than pants for once and you look quite beautiful.”
Yueri's face slowly turned bright pink. She opened her mouth to say something, but closed it in embarrassment. She managed a quiet, “thank you.”
Gaara smiled, enjoying the healthy blush of Yueri's pale cheeks. He sat on a low wall behind her and sighed.
“It's a beautiful day,” Yueri commented, regaining herself slightly.
“It is.”
Yueri began to fidget slightly. Being alone with Gaara always made her slightly nervous. The sun's warmth beat down upon her head and her back. After a few minutes of rational, or not so rational, thinking she sat beside Gaara on the wall and looked up at the sky.
“You know I can't stay,” Yueri whispered sadly. “I wish I could.”
“I know. Who do you have to go back to?” Gaara asked, his voice soft with realization.
“A patient.”
“Who?”
“Uzumaki Naruto. I found him the woods while collecting herbs.”
“You should go back to him.”
“But, Gaara…”
“Don't.”
Yueri's voice died in her throat when she heard Gaara's voice grow harsh. She physically flinched away from him.
“Will you accompany me?”
Yueri looked at Gaara hopefully, trying to catch the glance of his pale green eyes.
“I could. I must speak to the Hokage anyway.”
Yueri's heart dropped in her stomach. She noticed Gaara didn't look at her.
“You're upset,” Yueri whispered sadly. “I understand if you won't accompany me. I will take my leave now.” Yueri stood up and looked down on Gaara sadly.
“As you wish.”
Yueri rubbed her eyes as tears welled up.
“Gomen nasi!” Yueri yelled as a large, wild panther ran through the plaza. She jumped upon its back as it ran past her, never slowing. Yueri didn't bother to look back as the panther ran out of the village, leaving Gaara behind, for a while at least.

Gaara watched Yueri disappear into the desert and slumped in his seat. He dropped his head into his hands and groaned.
“That was stupid if you don't mind me saying,” a voice whispered. Gaara looked up to see Temari.
“What do you want?” Gaara growled.
“You should apologize. She apologized for being friends with that Naruto boy. She probably saved his life. It's obvious she's attached to you and you just let her go every time, every single time.” Temari placed her hands on her hips. “I know my little brother, despite the craziness and the occasional homicidal feelings. But since she came along, you've been calmer, happier. True love doesn't come by often.”

Naruto edged his way around the house. He had managed to sneak past Chamomile as he made his way to the front door. He swung the door open and ran for it. Perhaps everyone missed him in Konoha and he would be welcomed. After all, Konoha was his home.
He ran through the forest, pushing past trees, branches and animals that got in his way. Naruto growled at himself as he thought about Yueri, calm, happy Yueri. He bounded in the gates and stopped. Night had fallen and here he sat in the middle of the street, waiting to be attacked. Then he heard a familiar voice.
“Naruto-kun!”
“Sakura-chan!”

Yueri hugged the panther's body as it ran through the countries at a deafening speed. She tumbled off of the creature's back as it stopped for a moment at her home.
“Ugh…” she groaned as she pushed herself up and off of the ground. She stumbled into the house and sighed.
“Naruto-kun!” she called.
“Imooto-san!”
“Nee-san?”
Chamomile ran to Yueri and hugged the younger woman tightly. “I was worried!”
“I was just with Gaara-sama!” Yueri explained.
“I know, but still.”
“Where's Naruto?”
Chamomile released Yueri. “I don't know. He disappeared.”
“He's gone back to Konoha.”
“He was run out earlier, correct? I remember seeing a boy being chased through the gates.”
“Oh, Kami!” Yueri gasped. “He couldn't have gone back! That's so stupid!”
“He has.”
Yueri sank to the ground. “I should've stayed. I should've, I should've, I should've.” She closed her eyes and could only see the pale green of Gaara's eyes. She groaned as tears slipped through her eyelids as she realized her imperfections.

A ghost moving through the halls,
alone and feeling nothing,
not even the cold of floor planks
as snow covered white feet touch them gently.
Awaken in the middle of the night,
A guardian angel looms overhead,
A ghost of no one.
Watching the flowers fade from the vase,
Turning to ashy gray,
As snow covered feet walk down these halls.
Silence echoing through the empty hallways,
Photos of loved ones fading to ice,
Empty frames,
A prophetic vision turning to dust in the light.
Snow covered white feet stop and connect with the frost.
Falling in love at first sight,
But never seeing him ever again,
Forgetting the sliced oranges in the crystal bowl
Next to the window.
Watching the small crimson flower in a colorless world.
Howls ring off in the distance,
As snow covered feet walk down steep stairs.
A single tree amongst a circle of graying ash,
Tall and ancient,
Looming over the abandoned house
Reaching into the sky full of stars on a cloudless night,
Sparkling diamonds in the distance.
Roses petals fall upon the grass
As snow covered feet walk out into the graying green.
Wind passes as though spread by the opening and closing of Chinese fans.
Snow covered hands touch the ancient trunk,
Stopping and sighing.
As gray eyes fade into green.
