Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ A Torn Heart Mended ❯ A Torn Heart ( Chapter 1 )

Disclaimer: Yes, I AM the creator of Naruto. I'm just writing spin offs of my creation and posting it here for no profit at all. Yup, that's it. Do you smell a sequel?

Author's Note: I hadn't really planned on writing a fan fic at all. This came out of nowhere, so it won't live up to fan fic legend standards. If you actually believed the disclaimer, then you really don't have the right to sue me. But if you really think you do, I'll tell you now that I don't own Naruto. Sorry if characters are OOC, I've been reading many fan fics lately and I suppose the fictional character sunk in more. Also, Kurenai isn't in much of the real series so I rather made up a personality for her. I've always seen Kakashi being made to be gay, being with Sakura, or a made up character. I wanted him to be paired up with someone in the series that would be `acceptable'. So…er…on with the story!

She had just finished training one of her students. Being rather distracted with what events had occurred earlier, they ended that day's training session sooner than usual. Exhausted with her thoughts, she mindlessly wandered into a café.

“Yo! Kurenai!”

A silver haired man caught her attention, but only by standing right smack dab in front of her.

“Oh…hi, Kakashi…” she mumbled.

“What's wrong?” the jounin now thoroughly concerned. Kurenai wasn't one to be so absent minded. After 3 minutes of asking her the same question, she stirred with a response.

“Hm?...Uh…Nothing.” answering with a half conscious tone. Thinking that they should sit (before anybody plowed into them), Kakashi led them both to a table near the back. Once again he tried to get an at least half-decent answer. No luck. Finally, he took her by the shoulders. With his lips next to her ears he asked yet again, “Tell me what's wrong, Kurenai.” Shocked by the warm tingle of his breath, she snapped out of her trance.

“I've been distracted all day…I suppose it's because…” she hesitated. Kakashi firmed his grip on her shoulders. “You can tell me.” With a sigh, Kurenai began to tell why she was so distracted. “I…I broke up with Asuma…” she trailed off. “Why?...What happened?” Kakashi was genuinely worried now. Kurenai was now staring at her hands, with a shaky voice she continued. “Smoking. He had to pick up that damn habit!” her hands began to become fists. “I couldn't take it anymore. Slowly killing himself with those cigarettes. I've told him he should stop. He wouldn't listen!” The small fists beat on the table, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.

At this time Kakashi reached out to put a reassuring hand over her clenched fists. She responded by looking up into his masked face. Whispers escaped her lips while she thought aloud, “I live with him. I can't go back…” A slightly uncomfortable silence passed as both jounin sat in deep thought.

She broke it off with Asuma? But…they'd have been together for so long. Even before they had announced their relationship officially, people suspected more than a comrade to comrade relationship between the two. For nearly two years Kurenai had been looked upon as forbidden fruit. Resting against her collarbone was that dark, graceful hair. Her soft, kissable lips…It even seemed that the crimson of her eyes glowed with intensity. All of that was off limits, how he wanted to break those boundaries. `Snap out of it. She's trying to open up to you'. She didn't have a place to stay…Asuma had asked her to move in with him one year into the whole thing. Should he…should he offer her to stay with him? Sure he had one bed. But there was room for two. `What the hell are you thinking?!' He could pull the couch out into a bed. She could sleep in his room. It was decided.

Even though he was rather nervous about asking, his voice was as smooth and sure as ever. “You could stay with me.” He stated. Kurenai reacted just as most women might (that aren't lust craved Kakashi fan girls). “I'm not sure…” Quickly Kakashi just had to reassure her. “How about until you find your own place? Please, let me help you.” A few moments passed and she spoke up. “Fine, ok. I'll do it, but only until I can find a place of my own.” “Great” was all he said to respond along with what appeared to be a smile. “Um…let's go get your things and I can help you unpack back at my place.” A small nod confirmed the decision. As Kakashi rose to leave, he felt a small hand grab his wrist. “Thank you…” came out as a whisper from the grateful woman. “Don't worry about it. That's what friends are for.” His eye crinkled upwards for a sure sign that he was giving her a smile. But what he said…was it true? Had he only thought about her as just a friend? Hidden feelings were emerging, only to disguise themselves as confused thoughts. What did he think about Kurenai? Hm…she was rather attractive…no wait- very attractive. Now she was single. There was nobody to stop him from asking her out. However…she might not say yes, even if he did muster enough courage to ask. Especially since she just got out of a serious relationship. What if she thought he would hurt her? But Asuma hadn't hurt her; he just couldn't break a habit. No matter what happened, Kakashi knew he wouldn't hurt her if he could help it.

They arrived at Kurenai's former home. The apartment was fairly neat besides a few stray ashtrays and cigarette boxes lying here and there. A few hints of Kurenai's feminine personality made themselves known.

“Hm…um, where are your things? We should probably start transferring them to my place.” Kakashi said. “Um…most of my things are in the bedroom.” Was the response.

Not just any bedroom. It wasn't her bedroom. The bedroom. What did he expect? She had been with Asuma for almost two years. They must have done it at least a hundred times. `I wonder… will I be as good?... Could she take the change?' What the hell was he thinking? Could she take the change?! He hasn't even asked her out yet! `Even if we did have sex…I'd be much more satisfying.' Mentally, he kicked himself.

“Ok, I'll help you pack.” He had to keep his mind focused on the matter at hand. Comforting and reassuring her.

“Asuma…” Kurenai winced at his name. She shook her head and continued on. “Er… he left on a mission after the… incident. So we don't have to worry about him bursting in.”
“Yea, he'd probably make a scene.”

They walked into the bedroom. This room was different from the rest of the apartment. It was darker…gloomier. There was something else that was very wrong. On the bed were mangled sheets. Beyond what anyone could do in their sleep…or sex. Pillows were on the opposite side of the room as if someone threw them.

“Sorry about the mess!” Kurenai quickly apologized as she saw how Kakashi had stared at the clutter in front of them. “I…er…didn't make the bed this morning.” He simply accepted the excuse—although he sensed something else happened other than an un-kept bed.

“Okay, well not many of the things are worth taking. My clothes are in those two drawers and the left-side of the closet.” Kakashi made his way to the drawers she had indicated and opened the one on top. His eyes grew wider as he saw what was inside. The contents just staring back at him. How he wanted to rip the drawer out of the dresser and run home with it. What he was looking at that had both shocked and excited him… hell he wanted to go arm deep into that drawer!

Author's Note: What's in the drawer? Do you have any ideas? I hoped this wasn't too terrible for those of you that stuck out through the end of the chapter. Working on it during Spanish class isn't the best time for creative thoughts…
