Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ Actions Speak Louder ❯ Welcome to Konoha ( Chapter 7 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
It was the final day, Ura had her weapons ready, and had shined her headband to make it look like she was prepared for whatever came her way. Her team and sensei walked along the desert, leaving their home again for the Chunin Exams. Baki and the others looked determined that they were all going to pass without any type of flaws, the only one who seemed worried was Ura.
From what she had heard on these examinations were that many do die within the tests, some bloody, and some too murderous to speak of. Though it was a part of training to become a Chunin, only a few make it, but once they are done, much more difficult missions are to come....
"Buck up, Ura, you're gonna have to look strong to make our rivals fear you," Kankurou nudged her.
"Hm..." Ura was too deep in her own thoughts to hear Kankurou.
*I must not lose...not to anyone... If someone threatens my life, outside of Gaara, then they will see how dangerous I really am,* Ura tried to have confident thoughts.
Though they've only walked for an hour, they could all feel the difference in the heat, it was much cooler than the desert usually brought. The sand that nearly engulfed all of their feet didn't feel like lava, instead, the sand felt like a sandy beach, one they never felt before. As the wind whipped around them, clashing both heat and the cool air, the Suna Team could see the entrance gates to the village that promised them some uncertainty. Temari had a look of determination, knowing deep down that if none of her teammates made it, at least she would come out strong. Unlike Temari's self-determination process, Kankurou was wondering about Gaara, how would his little brother act with a lot of stronger Genin around him? Gaara...well...Gaara was just thinking how many people he could get rid of. Baki eyed his students as they traveled at their normal pace, now he finally saw what they were really thinking, how they really thought about one another, and themselves. He also noticed the fear in Ura's eyes, something was telling him she wanted to run back before she even went near Konoha. Why would she be so fearful? She's a girl with the Sharingan, a powerful trait to have, yet she hasn't used it in a long time.
The truth was Ura didn't want to use the Sharingan unless she really had no other choice, it took up a lot of her chakra that she saw was valuable. That was one of the main reasons why she trained so hard for so long, if she could work up her strength, then she could use the Sharingan to her own advantage. Plus, she knew the last Uchiha would find out her trait and wonder why, a person out of the Uchiha Clan, had the Sharingan.
In half an hour, Baki and his team already had passes into the village, gaining full acceptance by the Hokage. Suna Team had their own hotel rooms during the examination, where they began to settle down and relax from their long trip. Everyone felt the excitement and rush of the upcoming battles that they would fight, proving that they should become a Chunin.
"Watch Gaara, make sure he doesn't wander off on his own," Baki stated, "I have to inform the Hokage of our entrance in the examination. What I suggest you do is take a good look at the other Genin that you will be joining."
Temari looked at Kankurou, Kankurou looked at Ura, Ura looked out the window to see how many people there were outside. She had not seen so many outside at once, especially during noon, when the heat was at it's peak of being unbearable. Gaara stood in the corner of the living room that they were given to relax in, also staring out at the window, looking down at his prey.
"Well, we better go see who we're defeating," Kankurou stretched.
As Ura looked outside, she noticed a blonde girl that wore the samething Ura wore, except Ura's outfit was tan and the bandages she wore around her legs and abdomen were black. The girl was yelling at a pink-haired girl, something about a guy named Sasuke, but Ura didn't really care, as long as they weren't her opponents in a match, they were safe.
"Ura, c'mon, we're leaving," Temari called out to Ura.
She snapped out of her thoughts and joined her teammates on a walk on the outside. Gaara disappeared with his sand, but they all knew where he was going, he was going to find the strongest Genin he can find to see their attacks. Ura toyed with the ends of her two umbrellas, she wanted to look strong, but she was too nervous, being in another village outside of her home. They turned into an alley way, in front of them were a few kids, and the pink-haired girl with a blonde boy were there too, they were Genin by the sign of their new headbands.
"They look easy..." Kankurou murmured with a slight smirk, "Think we should get them now?"
"Not when Gaara isn't here," Temari looked around for a sign of their missing teammate.
Ura, still in her own thoughts again, was thinking about how nice the weather felt, trying to get her less nervous. She looked up at the clouds, they looked so beautiful here, free as the wind as they traveled beyond her own reach. At that moment, she wished she was a cloud, so she could just get away and feel the wind whip around her like she was nothing. Hearing a 'thud' brought her out to see a little kid run into Kankurou and fall on his behind.
"Uh..sorry.." the kid rubbed his head.
Kankurou picked the kid up by his collar, "You should watch where you're going kid, it's rude to run into people older than you."
"Let him go!" the blonde boy pointed his finger at them, "He didn't do anything to you!"
"Wait, you're not from this village! Where are your passes?" the pink-haired girl smirked at them.
Temari pulled out her pass, "Are you idiots? You don't know why other village Genins are here?"
"Uhm...." both Konoha Genin were at a loss.
Kankurou chuckled to himself, "I guess they're as dumb as they look... We're here for the Chunin Exams."
Then, something caught Ura's eyes, like in slow-motion, a small tone was coming at Kankurou's wrist. She quickly pulled out a hari and took a step forward, just in time to deflect the stone that threatened her teammates wrist. Though it was a small pebble, it could really damage Kankurou's wrist, and since he used puppetry, that would hurt how he used Karasu. When she looked up to see who threw it, she could tell it was just by the description her grandfather told her a long time ago that the guy was an Uchiha.
"You..." Kankurou growled at the new person, he dropped the kid known as Konohamaru, "You nearly got me there..."
Ura looked at her hari, that small stone dented her weapon, though it could easily be fixed, she was amazed how strong one boy could be. When she re-looked up at him again, he had a smirk on his face, actually...he was pretty cute.
"Kankurou, you're a disgrace to our village..."
Temari and Gaara froze, looking up at their brother who was hanging upside down on the branch next to the Uchiha's. Ura blushed a little, but looked away from Gaara, trying not to bring attention to herself. Though the Uchiha was cute, Gaara was much better looking, in her opinion.
"Sasuke!" the pink haired girl smiled at him, while the blonde boy scoffed at his teammate.
"I apologize for my teammate," Gaara turned slightly to the Uchiha, but eyed him wearily, like he was noticing that this Sasuke would be a good opponent.
Sasuke and Gaara stared at each other for a few more moment, until Gaara disappeared in his sand, then reappeared in front of Kankurou. Kankurou apologized a few times, but Gaara just walked passed him, Temari and Kankurou followed, but Ura lagged behind, trying to see how strong this Sasuke was. If Gaara saw him good enough to fight, then maybe she could fight him...maybe even beat him to make people see that he's not the only one that was strong. When she, too, had turned and left, before she had caught up with her team, Sasuke appeared behind them, "Hey you."
"Who? Me?" Temari asked hopefully, obvious that she thought he was cute too.
"No, the one with the gourd," Sasuke narrowed his eyes, Gaara turned around, "What's your name?"
"Gaara...of the Sand, i'm curious about you too...who are you?" Gaara crossed his arms.
"I'm Sasuke Uchiha," Sasuke stated, his eyes searching the entire team.
"I bet you're dying to know who I am, right?" the blonde scampered in their conversation.
"I could really care less," Gaara said coldly, then turned and left, Kankurou and Temari leaving.
Ura eyed the team, a bit curious on how weak they were, all except Sasuke Uchiha. She didn't understand how two weak members of the team were so careless to try and go against other Genin that were stronger than both of them.
"Why didn't you leave with your team? And why are they so mean!?" the blonde boy glared at her, "Are you mean too?"
All eyes were on her now, even the Uchiha was looking at her, as if to see her reaction outside of her teammate's, "They're not mean...you three are just incompetent."
"Incom-what?" the blonde was confused.
Ura then understood why Kankurou made fun of them, the blonde was a doofus. The pink haired girl told the boy what it meant, then the boy glared even harder at her, but Sasuke intervined, "No, Naruto, save your strength for later, you idiot."
"Who do you think you are!? What gives you the right to march into our village and give us trouble?" the pink haired girl approached Ura, "Plus...how could you deflect Sasuke's attack so easily?"
Now the girl was diving her nose into Ura's buisness, so Ura turned, "Don't be nosey..."
The Suna Kunoichi walked off, seeing her team had utterly left her to find her way around the village. It wasn't until Temari had ran back to get Ura did the Kunoichi find her team. They hung out at their hotel room, meeting the three Genin and ticking Gaara off was enough for Kankurou for one day, and Temari wanted to polish her fan. Gaara was in his own room, so he was fine and wouldn't leave without a reason, and Ura was also in her room.
Later that afternoon, it Ura was growing even more bored as the minutes went by, so she went to where Temari and Kankurou were, "I'm going to go train by the forest near here...i'll be back in an hour."
"Don't be talk'n to anyone while you're out," Kankurou called out to her, "This village may be our ally, but they are still our rivals."
Ura didn't may much mind to his comment, she just left and walked around the village until she reached her destination. It came clear to her that not many Genin that she saw from the other villages used umbrellas as their weapon, or hari, just a few. That, however, gave her a big advantage, that would mean not many Genin would see through her attacks when they battled her. She threw her umbrellas in the air, then targeted a part of the tree, and the hari flew at it in a vertical line. They were a little off, but it was close enough, she had practiced her entire weak before they had to come to Konoha to get her hari in a straight line. When the umbrellas fell into her hands, she twirled around and smacked the tree with the umbrellas on both sides. Leaping away, she flung them in front of her, still holding on, then twirled them, sending a wave of her hari at the tree. If she was fighting someone, she would've easily won, but that was the bad thing about opponents, they fight back...
She punched, kicked, and continued attack the tree, trying to become stronger at any cost. The blood was dripping through the bandages on her arm, and yet she did not stop, she just wrapped up her hands again. When the tree finally fell, it was fairly thin, Ura could feel that she was being watched from afar. She flung four hari behind her, but they never hit anything, they were caught. When she turned to get a good look at whoever was watching her, they only left a shadow, but they threw two of her hari back at her, which she had caught with ease.
"That was not Gaara...nor was it Kankurou or Temari..." Ura muttered, "Who was it then...?"
That question would not be answered until later, as long as they stayed far away from her, she was fine...
**Meanwhile**
"Where's Sasuke? I can't find him," Sakura searched around the entire village, "This isn't like him to just skip a meeting..."
"Maybe it's a good thing he's gone..." Naruto pouted, "Hey Sakura, how about we go on a date without Sasuke? You don't need him..."
"Ew no way!" Sakura nearly gagged.
Naruto pouted even more, why was Sasuke always so special to everyone? Naruto was just as strong as Sasuke, but no one gave him any special treatment for throwing a stupid stone. Then, Naruto's thoughts traced back to meeting the Suna Team, they were all pretty scary looking, except that one girl, he didn't ger her name. Ever since Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura left the place they met the strange team, Sasuke was even more distant than he usually was. Was Sasuke actually afraid of them?
Then, speak of the devil, Sasuke was actually walking to them, but he had something in his hands. Sakura ran to him, "Sasuke! There you are, I was so worried about you!...hey, what's that?"
"Nothing," the Uchiha put away the thing he was carrying.
"Oh..ok..." Sakura was confused, "Where were you?"
"I was taking a walk," Sasuke brushed passed her.
"Taking a walk!? We had a meeting about our training methods and you were taking a walk!?" Naruto yelled, "No wonder i'm way stronger than you!"
When Sasuke had walked passed Naruto, the blonde noticed two hari sticking out of Sasuke's pocket, he grabbed them out, "Hey...wasn't that girl carrying these?"
"Yeah..she did," Sakura had a suspicious look, "How did you get that, Sasuke-kun?"
Sasuke snatched them back, "I use them to get a clean cut from my enemies."
With that, the Uchiha walked off angry, Naruto and Sakura looked at each other then back at their teammate. Sakura had an angry/hurt look in her eyes, obvious Sasuke was up to something, but they didn't know what. Naruto then turned to Sakura, "I don't think he could've gotten them from that girl..."
"I don't care..." Sakura went to her own home.
"Sakura! Wait, Sakura!" Naruto ran after her.
**Temari and Kankurou**
"It's been an hour, Ura should be coming back now," Kankurou looked at the time, "Yep...any minute now..."
"Gotta hand it to that Uchiha kid, he was pretty cute for a little kid," Temari finished polishing her fan.
"He's too young for you," Kankurou commented, "It's a shame we're going to kick his ass, along with his team... Man, they were real idiots, who knew they were Genin and entering the Chunin Exams. Their sensei must be desperate to get them away from him."
"They could be strong," Temari shrugged, "Except for the pink haired girl and that blonde mess, it's easy to see they have little to no abilities."
Ura walked in, "Someone took two of my hari..."
"Who cares? You have like a million other hari, so why worry about two?" Kankurou looked up at her, "You look beaten up.."
"She said she was going to go train," Temari looked at her brother, "So she should look beaten up to get a good work out."
"Is Gaara still here or did he leave?" Ura asked as she went to the kitchen to get a glass of water.
"I'm pretty sure he's in his room, he'll leave at sun down to stare at something," Kankurou answered, "That's the normal routine for Gaara..."
"So what do you think of the Village Hidden in the Leaves Genin?" Temari called out to the kunoichi in the kitchen, "You think they'll be easy to defeat or what?"
"I don't really know... All I know is that Uchiha kid is going to put up a good fight with us," Ura stood at the entrance way to the kitchen with her water, "But over-all, I think we're over our heads..."
"Excuse me? Did I hear you clearly?" Kankurou turned to face Ura, "Over our heads? You saw how we handled that stupid team in the allyway, if that was one of their teams, the others are probably going to be like that."
"I doubt it..." Temari rolled her eyes, "Maybe Ura is right, I think you need to start thinking about what they could be strong in. Besides, Ura was the one who blocked that pebble from your wrist with just one hari, you didn't do much but get your ass in trouble with Gaara."
"That was by accident, I so saw that rock coming at me, I was going to use that kid as a shield," Kankurou commented with a dirty look at his sister, "But you shouldn't talk either, that Uchiha kid blew you off like a thin piece of paper blowing in the wind."
Temari then whacked him upside his head with her shiney fan, "You wanna have a hole on your head!?"
Ura laughed, there was a huge bump on Kankurou's head, he crawled away from his sister before she would get mad at him again. She went down the hall to her room, and out of curiousity, she slowly walked passed Gaara's room, and to her surprise, Gaara was mumbling something incoheirent. Now she understand why Kankurou didn't want to sleep in the room next to Gaara's, Gaara was mumbling something about killing everyone to make his mom happy. She gulped and walked to the room next to his, at least she felt somewhat safe in her room. Ura sat with her back against the wall, the wall the seperated her from Gaara.
*Gotta be strong...gotta be strong...gotta be strong...gotta win every battle from here on out...*
From what she had heard on these examinations were that many do die within the tests, some bloody, and some too murderous to speak of. Though it was a part of training to become a Chunin, only a few make it, but once they are done, much more difficult missions are to come....
