Notes: For those who have been wondering about when there will be some NaruKyuu action, there have actually been some subtle and not so subtle hints that they are indeed attracted to each other. They are just in the midst of realizing it themselves. It also occurred to me that the title seems like it has nothing to do with the story. As for that, you'll have to wait and see.

Chapter Four

Unexpected Visitors

The mysterious cleaning fairy still unnoticed, Kyuubi eventually forgot about it altogether. And so, they began a new daily routine.

“'Morning,” Naruto grumbled as he staggered sleepily into the kitchen to eat. Sure enough, there was Kyuubi making breakfast. This time it was pancakes. Kyuubi's culinary skills had greatly improved in just a day.

Naruto's eyes widened with the first bite. “I-it's… good.”

“Why, thank you,” Kyuubi said, embarrassed. He hadn't really been expecting Naruto to compliment him.

Because Naruto had a big mission coming up, he didn't have any little ones to do, so he stayed home all day. He and Kyuubi would spend the whole day playing video games or joking around.

The fourth night after the mission was assigned, the two boys were having dinner when Naruto brought up the mission.

“Shouldn't we have left by now? What's the hold up?”

“I don't know,” Kyuubi scratched his head. “I think I'm gonna go for a walk.”

By the time Kyuubi returned Naruto was sound asleep on the couch, TV blaring.

He looks so… peaceful and relaxed… It's kind of cute. NO! What am I thinking? Well… I better take him to his room. Kyuubi walked over and picked up his sleeping companion. The moment Kyuubi's fingertips touched Naruto, a strange wave of energy ran through the fox demon's body, causing his face to flush pink.

He lay the boy down on the bed, and plopped down on his futon and fell right asleep. A small smile played on Naruto's features. He hadn't been asleep the whole time after all.

Naruto didn't mention the night Kyuubi tucked him in and neither did Kyuubi himself. Another two days had passed. Naruto and Sakura had canceled their plans to go to Ino's party, which saddened him greatly. Now, he was eating dinner. This time, Kyuubi had decided to make ramen.

“I'm going for a walk,” Kyuubi said, keeping himself from adding `and don't make me carry you again.'

About an hour later, Sakura came over to inform the remaining resident that they were indeed, leaving tomorrow.

“Kyuubi never came back,” Naruto stated on the way to Sand. “He said he was going for a walk.”

“I thought you didn't care,” Sakura replied.

When Naruto couldn't think of a snappy comeback, Sakura continued to speak. “It might interest you to know that the same thing happened with Nibi-san.”

Thinking about it now, Naruto noticed that, for a fact, Nibi was not there.

“I wouldn't worry about it,” Kakashi said, “I'm sure they are fine.”

About two days later, they reached Sand.

“Actually, two monsters attacked us,” Gaara explained. “One was a giant bird the other a giant… horse.

“We don't know when we will be attacked next, so I asked for your help. We need you to find the source of this and stop it. The only clue we have is this.” Gaara held up a forehead protector. Carved in the metal was an eye. “We have no idea what village this is from. However, we do know that they came from the Earth Country. They told us as they left. Well, good luck.”

“I guess this is where we part ways then,” Shizune said.

“An eye, huh?” Kakashi said examining the forehead protector for the umpteenth time.

“Kakashi-sensei, you don't need to look at it every five seconds,” Sakura pointed out. She then turned to Naruto. “Lighten up, will you?”

Six days and they still hadn't reached Earth Country. Every night Naruto would lie in the tent. It felt like someone was calling him. He wanted to find that person. A small part of him wanted that person to be Kyuubi.

Naruto snapped out of his trance at the sound of unfamiliar voices whispering outside the tent. Sakura and Kakashi were sound asleep. He bolted out to find to dark figures standing, as if they had been waiting for him. The one on his left gestured towards the dead campfire and it came to life again, illuminating the gloomy surroundings. Tall tree stood on all sides, the ground obscured by leaves and pine needles.

The first thing Naruto noticed was their forehead protectors. The symbol on both was an eye. The same eye as on the forehead protector Gaara had given them. The woman on the left sported a nasty smirk on her face. Her dark eyes, dancing maliciously greatly contrasted against her short white hair. Her pales skin seemed to glow. The man on the right had long brown hair, brown eyes, and tan skin. His rough features held no expression. They were both similarly dressed in ninja garb.

“Who are you!” Naruto hissed, not wanting to wake his teammates up.

“Who we are is not important,” the woman said. “What's important is it seems that my good friend failed to do her job correctly. Now, we have come to correct that mistake. But first, we need your cooperation.”

“Like hell I'll cooperate!”

“Oh… Then I'm afraid we've got no other choice but to take you by force.”

“Have it your way, bitch!” Naruto shouted as he charged at them.

Before he could reach her, the man punched Naruto in the gut, causing him to falter. The man then dealt one last blow that knocked Naruto's consciousness away. The loudmouth blonde slung over the man's shoulder, the woman said, “Thanks. That saved me some trouble. Now, let's get back before he gets mad.”

When Naruto awoke he was in a cell similar to the one Kyuubi had been in when he was still in Naruto's body. Where am I?

“I see that you're awake.” It was the woman from before. “You're only alive because my friend made a mistake. Like I said before, I am going to correct that mistake. Once it is corrected, you will die.”

She stood on the other side of the bars. It was impossible to see past her. The only thing Naruto could see was black. In his cell were cold, hard, stone walls. That was all.

“Where am I?” Naruto asked. He somehow felt weaker than normal. Maybe they had put a seal on his cell.

“It doesn't really matter now, does it? You're going to die soon anyway,” She said, pulling off his forehead protector.

Naruto was shocked and angry at himself. He did not have the strength to respond. The mysterious woman left, leaving him to rot alone.

After what seemed like an eternity, Naruto heard footsteps again. When he looked to see who it was, he was surprised but somehow relieved. “Kyuubi!” he croaked.

“Stupid brat… I can't believe you were caught so easily.”

“I'm sorry…”

“Dumbass! What are you apologizing for?” Kyuubi said. “Come here.”

Naruto obliged, taking each step slowly. He held the bars for support. The color of Naruto's face changed to bright red when Kyuubi put his hands on Naruto's and started giving him chakra.

“D-don't look so shocked, brat! I'm just trying h-help…”

Kyuubi slowly leaned forward, gently resting his forehead on Naruto's. Both their hearts were racing. What is he doing? Naruto thought. He was beginning to feel nervous.

“What ever you do, don't die, okay?” Kyuubi whispered.

Notes: I'm upset because only a few people have been reviewing and I'm getting over 90 hits on each chapter.
