Chapter Four: Sasuke-kun
Sakura slowly stirred awake. A fresh waves of pain hit her. “Damn it.” She muttered under her breath, anger consumed her. Her over confidence placed her in the situation she was in right now. She wished she just finished them off right at the beginning instead of fooling around, trying to find some entertainment.
God damn, I got carried away. She scowled at herself.
She looked around, realizing she was no longer in the forest where she had met people who she had never recalled seeing but they kept saying she was someone they knew. Why the hell did they bring me with them anyways?
She eventually recollected the memories that had came at her with the pain. The memories were of her and the people that had been there, also some unfamiliar faces. One of a shy and quiet girl, a boy who wore a green spandex suit and another girl with two buns on the top of her head. These people seemed somewhat recognizable, but she doesn’t ever remember seeing them.
This troubled her greatly. She hadn’t been this frazzled since the day when she had been younger, she was told to try and defeat one of Sasori’s puppets in a sparring contest. Of course being young, she got frustrated easily, so when she was defeated the fifth time, she wanted to so bad to just go up to Sasori and just stab him to end this stupid exercise.
But naturally Itachi had been there to help her out and instructed her to concentrate, and find the weak point of the puppet. He told her to be patient.
She didn’t like the idea of being patient, all she could think about was tearing off the stupid puppet's head. But after some hints from Itachi, she was finally able to find one weak spot and penetrate the puppet from there.
She sat up and looked around. She was in a room with one window, the sun light found itself shining into the room, a table at the side of her bed with her Akatsuki cloak folded nicely on top.
Sakura rubbed her eyes with her hands, her vision was slightly blurry, but to no avail; the blurriness wouldn’t leave. Maybe I’m drugged with some kind of pill or something… She cautiously took another look around the room, seeing if there was any traps that she could possibly set off. When she realized there was none, she slipped out of bed slowly, trying hard to ignore the pain that pounded in her head.
She attempt to mold Chakra in her hands, to check if she was still ok and that they didn’t do anything to her body. The Chakra didn’t come. She tried several times but found it no use. Damn it, my Chakra openings must’ve been sealed off from that white eyed boy who had the Byakugan. I read this somewhere in the books, but why didn’t I remember it!
Sakura noticed that she was still dressed in the clothes that she was wearing yesterday. But her holster was gone and so were the weapons that she had kept in little compartments that were attached with her suit. Looks like they did a pretty good search, even the smallest pocket was found. Damn.
She quietly walked over to the door, and pressed her ears against the door. Silence. She softly slid the door open just a tiny bit, enough so that she could peck out. The halls were dark, she couldn’t see very well and sensing no one there, she slid the door wider.
“Going somewhere?” A voice startled her, she mentally gave herself a hard kick for not being cautious enough. Sakura looked over to the side and saw the Uchiha boy standing there. Sakura jumped back into the room. Sasuke slowly strolled in. “Why are you scared? You already beat me once when we fought.”
She glared at him. “I’m not scared, it’s something that I automatically do when I get startled.” She straightened up, her face hard and cold. “What are you doing, standing guard over me?”
“I’ve got questions and you’re the only one so far who can provide me with answers.” Sasuke cut straight to the point. Sakura didn’t say anything but just continued to glare at him. “Where is Itachi?”
Sakura snorted. “What are you planning on doing, killing him? If you can’t even hurt me, than you’ll have no chance of beating him.” Sasuke growled.
“Don’t toy with me. I’ll ask again, where is Itachi.” This time it didn’t sound like he was asking, but more of a demand.
“Who said anything about toying with you? I’m just telling you the obvious.” Sakura said, she had completely let her guard down, not paying attention to what he was doing because she had her eyes closed as she sighed. He pushed her roughly against the wall, pinned her hands above her head, and he trapped her legs with his so that she couldn’t kick him if she tried.
Sakura was quite taken aback at this sudden move. Sasuke looked up at her with his Sharingan activated. “I told you, don’t toy with me.” Their faces were only mere inches away, Sakura felt his hot breath brush against her cheek.
She leaned down to his ears and whispered mischievously. “And like I said, I’m not toying with you, you’re the one who’s thinking that.” She pulled back, Sasuke glared at her but she kept her face as still as possible. She couldn’t have him knowing that she was still in pain, so she tried her best not to show it by acting like this was all a game.
It got difficult to do so when he threw her against the wall, her head now throbbed to the point that even breathing hurt her head.
Sasuke slowly released her arms and took a step back, his onyx eyes replaced the red. Sakura looked down at her wrists, his hand prints were marked from squeezing too tight, she never even realized he had gripped on to her wrists so tight. “Sorry.” He mumbled as he saw what he had done. He turned to leave.
“You wouldn’t be able to defeat him. You’re not ready yet, you’ll die.” Sakura muttered under her breath, feeling the horrible effect of the pain, that had already started to spread though her whole body. Sasuke looked over his shoulder at the girl, she wasn’t looking at him but at the ground. “He wouldn’t spare you even if you begged for it.”
“I can kill him and I will. I am an avenger. Without help, I’ll kill that bastard and avenge the Uchiha Clan.” He said, he clutched his fists tightly.
“Please, don’t leave me, don’t go after Itachi, please Sasuke-kun.” Sakura unconsciously pleaded, hints of tears were visible, but her conscious side seemed to be fighting it back.
‘Sasuke-kun’. He hadn’t heard that for awhile, he had missed how she said his name.
Actually, to be honest, he missed everything about her. He missed how her green eyes sparkled, her smiles, the way she carried herself, how she cared so much about him even though he’d always push her away. He silently regretted all the hurt he brought on to her.
Sasuke turned and left the girl alone in the room, who was feeling much or less weakened and unable to hardly even stand.
Sakura stood there for awhile, her eyes had blacked out, leaving her to stare blankly at nothing but darkness. She didn’t know why she was on the verge of crying or what she had said after she told Sasuke that he wouldn’t be able to beat Itachi. She had felt her lips move and heard her voice, but that was all like a blur and it was like she had a memory wipe.
Sakura stumbled to the bed, almost not making it over there. She sat on the single bed, his voice still echoed in her head. I am an avenger…I’ll kill that bastard… She wouldn’t let that happen. No… She won’t let it. He was different than what Sasuke thought, Itachi didn’t kill the whole clan just to test his capacity… There was more to it, she knew there was.
Sakura pulled her legs on the bed and pulled the covers over her body. She really needed sleep, all this aching was tiring her out again. As soon as her head hit the pillow, she was out like a baby.
~*~*~*~*~
“But whhhyyyy?” A whiney voice filled Sakura’s ears as she slowly stirred awake. “But I want to see her!” Sakura opened her green eyes and turned her head towards the door. The sound was coming from behind it.
“Shut up dobe, no one’s allowed to see her until Tsunade-sama is here.” Sasuke’s voice answered.
Naruto grunted. “I-I’m sure we-we’ll be able t-to see her s-so-soon enough, Naruto-kun.” A shy and quiet voice reassured the anxious boy.
“Well where the hell is Tsunade then?” Sakura recognized this voice, it was that blonde headed girl, Ino. Sakura sat up, this time the pain wasn’t as great as the last time. She was able to get out of the bed and stand up without the throbbing pain biting at her.
“Can we at least take a peek to see if she’s still there?” Naruto’s voice sounded again. Sasuke must’ve shook his head. “Come on idiot! You know you want to see her too!”
“Keep quiet, dobe, you know nothing.” Sasuke bit out emotionlessly. Naruto growled in frustration.
“Oh damn it, move aside Sasuke.” Ino demanded, she must have got past Sasuke and opened the door just a bit, enough so that her whole face could fit.
“Huh?” Ino sounded, no one was in the room as far as she could see. Then without warning a figure stood in front of her, Ino jumped back in surprise, falling on her butt. As soon as Ino fell back, Sakura took that chance to push open the door, she ran by Hinata, grabbing a kunai out from Hinata’s back pouch, seeing how she looked the most surprised and she had been closest to Ino as well as the other side of the empty hall.
Sakura held the kunai in front of her and stood at the opposite end of the hall, she ignored the pain with all that she had. “Sakura-chan, what’s wrong?” Naruto asked, taking a step towards her, she backed up.
“Where the hell am I and why did you take me with you!” She demanded, glaring at them, Sasuke was leaning against the wall and stared back at her with his usual onyx eyes. For some strange reason, she couldn’t take her eyes off of his.
“Sakura, calm down. You’re in Konoha, you know the place where you were born.” Ino informed the now confused Sakura. “You do remember this used to be your home right?”
Sakura was starting to think that the pain and the memories weren’t just a jutsu. “Don’t you remember Sasuke, how we used to fight over him, or Naruto, don‘t you remember how annoying he was, or Hinata, TenTen, you and me and how we used to have sleepovers and hang out all the time?” Ino pressed on, surely Sakura couldn’t possibly forget all that!
Sakura slowly backed further down the hall, getting the information she wanted, the place she was taken to. She walked backwards, making sure they didn’t charge at her unexpectedly. They didn’t seem to move even though she was slowly escaping. Maybe they wanted her to. Whatever the reason, Sakura was determined to get out of this place and back to Akatsuki headquarters… Back to the people she trusts and came to love as a family.
All her hopes of getting out of here were crushed when she bumped into something, she quickly looked behind her and leaped back creating distance. Now she was trapped. “Why is Sakura out of the room? I thought I put a tag on the door that it can only be taken off from the outside, what happened?” She asked, three others had been following behind her.
The white eyed boy, a girl with two buns on her head and a boy who wore green spandex suit with fuzzy eyebrows, bobbed hair and weird looking eyes, Sakura recognized the girl and the fuzzy eyebrow boy from her the so-called memories.
“I’m sorry, Tsunade-sama! It was my fault, I wanted to see Sakura, when Sasuke was telling me that I couldn’t go in, I wouldn‘t list-” Ino was silenced when Tsunade held up a hand to signal her to stop talking.
“Doesn’t matter now, so Sakura how are you feeling?” She asked as she walked towards her.
Sakura held the kunai closer to herself. Shit, I wouldn’t be able to win against one of the legendary sannin and with the others here! Sakura looked around frantically, trying to think of an escape route. But there was none, to her left there was Sasuke, Ino, Hinata and Naruto, then to her right there were Tsunade, white eyed boy, fuzzy eyebrows and two bun girl.
I’ll just have to try my best. She thought as Tsunade reached her, all of a sudden out of no where a new set of pain washed over her, she winced slightly, barely noticeable, or so she thought. Everyone had saw it because they were all staring at her.
Tsunade reached a hand out towards her, to feel her forehead. Sakura gave her kunai a squeeze, something she always do when she was in a tight situation, and swung it at Tsunade, aiming for her neck. Instead of moving away like Sakura planned, the Hokage dodged the attack with ease and grabbed onto Sakura’s wrist.
Tsunade held onto Sakura’s wrists so hard that it made Sakura drop the kunai on the ground with a clink. Tsunade released her hand, Sakura made an attempt to get the kunai back but by the time she was bending down it was already gone.
Sakura cursed silently in her mind. She looked up and saw that the fuzzy eyebrows had the kunai. “Sakura-san.” Was all he said to her, then he turned to the old lady. “Please, Tsunade-sama, help Sakura-san get back her memories.” Tsunade didn’t say anything but she seemed to be studying Sakura, who was now breathing in short and quick breaths.
“You wouldn’t go down without a fight will you?” She asked, Sakura just glared with a grimace and a hard face.
However, on the inside Sakura was faltering, how was she supposed to fight without Chakra or weapons? She wasn’t all that good with taijutsu from the start, what helped her was her speed but that was all.
“Hey, obaa-san, don’t hurt her!” Naruto yelled. Tsunade ignored Naruto and continued to stare at the pink haired girl, Sakura was fighting the dizziness, that was now making her feel like she was swaying. The old lady was now blurry and she looked like she was spinning in all sorts of directions.
After struggling with the dizziness for awhile, Sakura finally gave in. She couldn’t take it anymore, she wanted so bad to just lie down and fall asleep. She let her body just fall and felt someone catch her.
~*~*~*~*~
The night had crept its way onto the sky, blocking out the sun. The stars and the moon were now the source of light for the world.
After Sakura fainted, Sasuke had carried her back into her bed and Tsunade had checked her over. Nothing could be done to help Sakura except for time. Her memories would’ve eventually come back to her over an extent of a period and it just happened that when she met up with them that it was triggered.
The girls were so worried that they said they wanted to stay over night and watch over her but Tsunade said it wasn’t necessarily and that Sasuke would be the only one watching Sakura.
So here was Sasuke, sitting beside Sakura, just like how she would when he was injured.
Where did she go for all these years? Why did she leave in the first place? How come she never visited or even bothered to write to any of them? Sasuke’s mind filled with questions. Was she really going to remember everything just with time as the healer? Why was everything all of a sudden so messed up?
He was brought out of his thoughts when he heard muttering. “Sasuke-kun.” He looked down at Sakura, she was still asleep. “Sasuke-kun.” She whispered again.
Sasuke sighed. It escaped through her lips once again. Now the words sounded different to his ears, they somehow sounded like they had meaning behind them. In some way, they meant more to him now then when they were younger. To Sasuke, his name would sound much too plain if Sakura didn’t use the ‘kun’ that she always uses.
He focused his eyes once again on the pink haired kunoichi. A sudden urge struck him; he wanted to touch her hair. As weird as that might have sounded, he’d always be awestruck at how her hair always looked so smooth and soft.
He wanted to see for himself if this was the case. Could he though? Could he just reach his hand over and touch a strand of her pink hair?
Sasuke wanted to, but hesitated, not knowing exactly why.
“Sasuke-kun!” Sakura suddenly screamed and shot straight up. She panted and trembled. Sasuke quickly recovered from being startled and laid a firm hand on her arm. She looked over at him with frightened green eyes, her eyes showed only fear. She still panted heavily and still trembled uncontrollably. She pulled the cover closer towards her and drew her legs up to her chest.
“Sakura?” He stood up and shook her gently by the shoulder. What the hell’s going on? He felt slightly worried for the girl when she didn’t recover from her sudden shock, or so Sasuke thought that was. “Sakura.” He called her again, still came no reply. He kept a strong grip on her shoulders, trying to help her stop the trembling.
“Th-they died. H-h-h-he di-did it…” She trailed off, she seemed to stare into nothingness.
“Who, Sakura? Who’s ‘he’?”
