Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ Birthday ❯ Chapter 1
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Uchiha Sasuke had the look of a thundercloud about him as he stalked down the deserted street. He had no wish to associate with a certain blonde Dobe, or an obsessive Pink Menace - particularly today, of all days.
Why? Well, the reason was simple.
In the eyes of the Uchiha, today was special.
However, anyone who felt inclined to think of it positively would be on the receiving end of a powerfully-thrown windmill shuriken.
As he turned sharply around a corner, he thought of that day, so many years ago - exactly thirteen years today. It was the anniversary of an event that he wished had never occurred, one that he had long cursed and despised.
Today was Uchiha Sasuke's birthday.
Anger and bitterness curdled sourly in the pit of his stomach. Thirteen long, creeping years ago, the emergence into this world of a squalling baby boy had set into motion the terrible pain through which a hapless young man now lived.
If that child had never been born, Uchiha Sasuke believed that the world would have been a better place.
If it hadn't been born, he wouldn't have to spend his days driven ever onward, fueled by the hollow, empty fumes of revenge.
He wouldn't have to turn his back on everyone and everything that ever meant anything to him.
And he wouldn't have to deal with the mind-blowing, mind-numbing burden of pain that slowly crushed him, a little more with each and every passing day.
The Uchiha looked like a thundercloud as he slunk off down the street; but today, he had a truly good reason for such foul temper.
Today was his birthday.
