chapter 12
WARNING: DRUG USE AND NARUTO ABUSE.
Sasuke held on to his stomach as another spasm coursed through his frame. The gut twisting nausea made him fall to the floor and vomit in to thrash can that he had to pull out from under the safety of the desk. Throwing up several times in to the metal container as his stomach knotted itself and the room spun around him.
Finally, when it was over and he could stand again, the raven haired teen pushed the trash can full of nastiness away and stumbled to the night stand where it was. That little vile that would make everything wonderful, make him stop throwing up and feeling the room spin. He had kept it in the top drawer to kept the precious thing safe and it would make all the pain he felt, go away.
Panting in anticipation he jerked the drawer open and reached in, Sasuke pulled out the bottle of “morphine” and held it up with a shaking hand to the over head light so he could see how much fluid was left. His stomach plummeted to his toes nearly making him sick again and he made a fist around the bottle, roaring with rage.
It was empty.
Sasuke could walk fine now, he did not need the drug any more for the physical pain from of what Kyuubi had done to him. But he wanted it, he needed it. He needed to feel that liquid happiness as it spread through his arm to his whole body. God, how he wanted it. It made him feel alive and dead at the same time. It made nothing matter; it was the only important thing. His icy front was so much easier to maintain when he could not care if the world ended in five minuets. He needed to feel nothing, If you can’t feel, you can’t hurt. If he did not feel, then the horrors that went on as a daily occurrence here, would not bother him. He needed that indifference, that emotional numbness.
Sasuke threw the bottle across the room watching it shatter when it hit the wall. Slumping to the floor next to the bed he suppressed a shiver from the screaming voice in his head telling him to go get more. Kabuto would give him more if he asked, he could say that he still hurt.
He leaned back and rested his head on the bed, staring out the window he knew would not open to let a comforting cool breeze in. So he just watched as the sky lightened, the sun putting forth a wonderful display of pink clouds and morning colors. The spikes of nausea had passed for now, but the ever present want for the escape was still gnawing at him. An escape from the feelings he felt when he thought about the past, about Itachi and Naruto.
The drug made his life simpler by eliminating all things but itself. It blurred the hate and fear of his older brother and lessened the sting of pain and betrayal from the blond. It did let him not care about the emotions he felt and see that Kyuubi was the one raping him and that his bother was just manipulating him for his own demented reasons. Itachi was just playing chess with his life, each move was thought out and although it might not be obvious at the time, there was always a underlying motive to the action. Moving him one step closer to where his older brother wanted him.
Naruto was a pawn as well, a piece being used by all parties against each other and himself. Kyuubi was using him as a substitute body and Itachi and Orochimaru both wanted the demons power so that they could use it against each other. Both of them would not hesitate to use his and Narutos friendship against them in an attempt to make them both hate each other and leave an opening that they could exploit. Use him against Naruto and use Naruto against him. It was this complication that made him decide to abandon Konoha in the first place. Friends were just people who’s death would distract you from your objective.
And distracted he was.
Itachi had gotten away again and all he was doing was sitting around playing Orochimarus games, trying to get Naruto out of here. Naruto who had his body used to rape him. The snake’s attempt to drive them apart, to make him not care that the stupid blond was having his spirt broken. To make Naruto think that he hated him for what the demon did.
Sasuke clenched his eyes and fists against the wave of anger, wanting the drug so much more to stop these things he felt. The numbness would let him go about his day with out these complications to his life. They would not go away but, made it so that he could ignore them.
Opening his eyes, his gaze returned to the window and the sunrise. Suddenly a dark clad form shot passed the window, blocking the light for a moment. In that split second his sharingon picked up on the sunshine blond hair and the blue of an eye that could rival a clear summer sky. It was Naruto, it had to be, who else had those features?
Sasuke got up and staggered to the door, he wanted to know what the blond was doing. Didn’t he know that Orochimaru had named this place the sound because of a snakes sensitivity to vibrations. That the place was over run with the slithering creatures because Orochimaru could use his connection with them to know when anything happened. Didn’t the blond know that running all out like that would disturb the snake’s and their master would know exactly were he was. Didn’t the blond know that Orochimaru was lord and master over every thing in his country and Naruto would get no help anywhere in it. That the snake master was an anal retentive bastard that micro managed everything. Why didn’t the blond know that Orochimaru had back up plans for his back up plans. That the snake had already had a plan for what to do if he tried to escape.
‘Doesn’t he know that I’m here only because I won’t leave him, and now the fucker is leaving with out me.’
The raven haired teen had used the last of the morphine to make it so he did not care as he watched as Orochimaru force him to change back and forth from Kyuubi. The foxes chakra thick, choking and very angry would fill the training space, tinting it red then it would be gone and Naruto would be laying, gasping in the dirt. The bastard did not even wait for Naruto to stand before he would force Kyuubi out again. Then when he declared that the training was over and Naruto was trying to stand up with his body protesting every moment he made. Orochimaru simply kicked him down and in one swift moment knocked his face in to the dirt before he grabbed the blond hair and forced Naruto to his feet, marching him from the training area with a split lip that was bleeding down his chin.
Sasuke had watched it all and had used the last of the morphine to make the pain in his heart go away. To forget the pained noise’s the blond had made as the snake abused him. To make it so he could go to training and not be distracted with his worrying over his friends condition.
Sasuke had tried to hate Naruto for what had happened but he couldn’t. He just could not hate the morronic blond for something he had no control over. He blamed the scheming snake and the damned demon. Orochimaru had known what the fox was doing before he changed back in to Naruto. So he knew what the demon would do when he tied him to the bed, the bastard had probably counted on it. But he could not beat the crap out of Orochimaru as much as he wanted to. And this need for a drug pissed him off. How could he, Uchiha Sasuke, get addicted to something like morphine?
Two days ago after he came down from the high he had realized how much he depended on that drug to get through each day. Not for the pain, but for the way it made him feel. To not care about that he was here and that Naruto was being beaten down in front of him and him being powerless to stop it.
He had said then that he was not going to take any more. That no matter how it made him feel, it was fake he would still wake up and be here in the cruel world of reality. He didn’t need it.
That was two days ago and now he was sick without it. Every fiber of his being wanted the drug, screamed for the drug. He might not need it but, God damn it, he wanted it.
Sasuke staggered his way out of his room and on to the small balcony at the end of the hall, the balcony over looked a garden, one of the several on the grounds. Sasuke always figured that the gardens were kept up so that the snakes had a place to go when they weren’t doing there masters dirty work.
The back haired boy looked across the rooftops for the form of his blond friend. His dark eyes squinting from the sun that had just crested the horizon. Sasuke spotted Naruto as he jumped from one building to the next and immediately started after him.
‘I won’t let him leave me here.’
~*~
Naruto knew he did not have much time. The dark of pre-dawn had lifted and in the sunlight it would not be long before he was spotted, if he wasn’t already. He did not care what way he ran just that he got away from this hell. The last of the complex buildings passed under him and he jumped through the trees and over the fence that surrounded it. As he cleared the fence he was surprised to see a sprawling village in front of him. Most of the buildings were run down and it smelled bad, but what could he expect with that snake guy in charge.
Naruto never slowed as he jumped from roof to roof occasionally looking over his shoulder to see if he was being followed. Looking down as he ran he could see people just start to go about their morning business. A large woman carried a bag as she went to market. She did not even notice as he leaped across the street right over her head. He landed on the edge of the building and it crumbled under his feet, but he had already jumped across the roof and was jumping to the next before it ever had a chance to collapse.
The wall around the village was quite high, but he would make his way over it somehow and to freedom beyond. He needed that freedom, he needed to smell something other than old training mat and his blood and sweat. To hear birds and little forest animals and the wind through the trees. For once he could feel the demon inside him agree, he needed out of this place.
‘I wish I knew where Sasuke was. He should of came with me. Even if he hate’s me, no one should be left here. ’
Naruto looked over his shoulder one more time and saw a shadowy figure following him. How he could be shadowy on a bright morning was rather impressive. He was not surprised at being followed and was already gathering chakra for a fight.
Naruto jumped the building in front of him and looked back over his shoulder to the person following him. Who was barely keeping up, he looked like… like Sasuke. Suddenly it felt like the blond was choking on his heart.
The black hair and almost as black as the eyes. The way he stayed dark and mysterious even as he jumped across sunny rooftops. Wait a second, it was Sasuke. Sasuke was following him to help him or stop him or whatever. But it was him.
Naruto did not slow and had to look ahead as he jumped a large gap between buildings. As soon as he landed he looked back over his shoulder at Sasuke. The dark haired boy took two strides than disappeared in to the shadow of a large spilt level house. For a split second the blond wanted to go find out what happened but before he could slow down or even change direction the blue seal on his gut, acted up. It clamped down and stopped all of Kyuubi’s chakra and drained off most of his own.
Naruto could feel his legs give out mid stride and then the hard impact to the roof as he collapsed. His forward momentum made him roll the last few feet to the roof edge. The lip of the roof was old and decayed and fell apart as his weight came on it. The blond felt the sudden lack of support under him and did a not so graceful belly flop to the ally below. Landing in to a trash bin that smelt so bad it made his eye water.
The ally was full of trash laying around in stinking piles as trash tends to do and a few over full trash bins. Old noodle cartons, newspapers, cans and bottles laid scattered about. One trash bin full of rancid noodles and squishy green things cushioned Narutos fall, the sound of the impact made a cat screech and shoot out of the ally in a streak of orange.
‘Why do I always end up in the trash?’
The blond stood up on shaking legs and wiped the smelly rotten noodles out of his hair. He climbed out of the trash bin and took two steps before he sensed the group blocking his way and swung his head around so he could look at the ally exit. Several men in shinobi garb and wearing the sounds forehead-protector that were holding swords or kunai, stood glaring at him. Looking up at the rooftops to see if he could get out that way, he saw more men and a couple of women standing on the eves of the buildings.
The buildings to each side of him were at least two stories and the crumbling walls looked like it would not take much to punch through it. The shinobi at the front of the ally were not moving toward him but then they didn’t have to either. They were blocking to only way out, the ally dead-ended against a smaller building with a red tiled, slanted roof. Naruto tried to gather chakra to jump back on to the roof of one of the buildings, but without Kyuubi’s chakra he did not have enough to do much of any thing. The group of shinobi hushed and grins started to show on their faces.
Not a good sign. Not a good sign at all.
The group of shinobi parted and Orochimaru stepped through, his face contorting in to a vile grin.
“Did you really think you could escape so easily?”
There was an extra helping of venom in the words. The blond could tell the snake bastard was pissed, his brow was furled and there was a wicked gleam in his ugly yellow eyes that sent a chill down Narutos spine. The blond fought the rising tide of panic and fear and tried again to gather chakra to fight, to run or whatever. If he could, he would do anything to get away from the vile man walking toward him making his heart beet faster with every step towards him.
Kyuubi was locked away and there just was not enough of his own, the strain from the past week had drained him of almost all his chakra. Desperately going through almost every hand seal he knew and none of them making so much as a cloud of smoke, Naruto quickly glanced around the ally for any thing that would help. Old cracked buildings and heaps of stinking garbage. He did not really think that anything of that could help him now. Panic started to take its hold and he looked harder at the allies contents as Orochimaru continued his leisurely stroll up to him, anger and the promise of pain oozing from the man.
In the back of the ally there were some boxes stacked up against the crumbling wall. It left only a 7-foot gap between the top box and the lip of the slanting roof.
That was all he needed. Orochimaru was ten feet away when Naruto spun and sprinted away. He leaped one pile of trash and wove his way through two others. His heart pounded in his ears, he was relying on his last reserves of energy, he could feel the lack of it starting to affect him but forced himself to continue at his break neck pace. Naruto jumped, pushing off the wall and on to the boxes, after another twist and a jump and he was on the roof. He took one step and fell face first in to the hard surface of the roof as some thing grabbed his ankle. Tasting blood as he scrambled to get a hold on the tiles, he looked back over his shoulder and saw Orochimaru’s disgustingly long tongue attached to his foot. He kicked out hitting the tongue, loosening the grip it had on his foot and pulled himself away from the edge.
A hiss in front of him made him snap his head forward again, as he watched a ten foot cobra slithered out from a broken tile in the roof. It stopped a foot front of him and rose up, flaring its hood and hissing. Naruto froze, not wanting to get bitten by such a poisonous snake and swallowed hard as he tried to get a better grip on the tiles under him without moving to much. The tongue wrapped around his ankle shifted it’s grip and the blond shivered as he felt it slowly start to creep up his leg. The moist thing dipped in to his pant leg and was slowly slithering up his calf, then up his thigh. The tip of the wet tongue gently caressed the curve of his butt and he panicked.
Screaming and thrashing to get it off of him, then hearing the hiss and felt the pinch and sting as the cobra in front of him struck his biceps.
The shock and pain of the bite made the blond lose his handhold on the tiles. The tongue still wrapped around his foot was only dead weight and Naruto slid off the roof to the ally floor dragging the snake the still had it’s fangs buried in to his arm, with him. There was no squishy landing this time. He clipped the corner of one of the boxes he had used to jump on to the roof, collapsing it and the force of the hit, knocked the air out of the blonds lungs. The tongue retreated from his leg and the footsteps of Orochimaru echoed as the bastard drew near. Panic surged through the teen and he forced himself to his feet.
Seeing only the smug smile from the snake before the long tongue wrapped around his shoulders and threw him in to the middle of the group of the waiting shinobi.
Naruto was forced to his feet by a hand on his neck. He knew what would happen now and from how pissed Orochimaru was, knew this would hurt.
Sasuke watched as Naruto fell, from safety of the shadow of the split-level. He had stopped to throw up and when he looked up again, he saw Naruto hanging from the slanted roof. The bastards tongue was wrapped around his leg and a cobra, ready to strike was on the roof in just front of the blond. Naruto kicked the grouping tongue and screamed, the cobra struck the blond in the upper arm causing Naruto to lose his grip and fall.
He was about to rush out to help the blond, but stopped when he heard a yelp of pain and the laughter of a group of men. Cautiously, he moved so that he could see in to the ally and still be in the quickly fading shadow. Nearing the boundary of the shadow, he looked in to the ally and saw Orochimaru, looking cross and watching as one large and hairy shinobi delivered a flaming punch to the blonde’s stomach, then another and another. He let Naruto fall to the ground and stepped back as another shinobi started to beat him.
Sasuke stood shocked at the brutality of it. Naruto had curled up with his arms trying to protect his head. He wanted to help Naruto from the depths of his soul, he did. His blood was boiling at the sight but he knew he was expendable. The disgusting snake man would not let Naruto die, that much he was sure of. He, on the other hand would more then likely be killed for being here with out Orochimaru’s permission.
So he stood by and watched as Naruto was beaten. It looked like Naruto was crying out for help, the wetness on his one cheek shimmered in the morning light and from the blaze of chakra in one of his brutalizers hands. Sasuke could not hear over the laughter and taunts of the men, but he was able to see Narutos lips moving and the pained look on his face as the made a cracking noise as it connected with his chest. His hatred for the snake bastard swelled even more when he heard Orochimaru hiss out loud enough for him to hear.
“There is no one who will come to help a pathetic monster like you, so stop screaming.”
Sasuke could not stand it any longer. If he died and never got to avenge his family, at least he would not have to watch this. He stepped forward out of the safety of the shadow and a hand fell on his shoulder, grabbing on and holding him back. He spun and knocked the hand away settling in to a battle stance as he looked at the one who had just stopped him.
In front of him stood master Koshi, Sasuke cursed at himself he had been so caught up with watching Naruto he did not sense the approach of one of Orochimaru’s most loyal men. The raven haired teen watched the man, woman whatever it was and started his sharingan. It was in his way of helping his friend therefore it should die. Except the he/she was not even looking at him, it was watching the beating in the ally.
“If Orochimaru finds you here he’ll kill you.”
The flat monotone voice whispered as he went for one of his kunai in his leg holder stopping his hand mid grab.
“Hn.”
“Go back to the compound. He’ll send someone to see you soon.”
Sasuke stood glaring at the man and he contemplated ways of killing him to get to Naruto. Koshi slowly turned his head to look Sasuke over. The look in the brown eyes that for just a second flickered with concern. Slowly the illusion master turned back to the beating in the ally, his waist legth hair fluttering in the cold breeze.
“You will be no help to the other boy if you’re dead.”
“Who says I’ll die.”
Sasuke grabbed the kunai from his leg holder. Before his hand ever reached the blade the long haired man had grabbed it and forced it out in front of him. Long fingers pulled the elbow guard off exposing the track marks then gently ran down the inside on his elbow.
“If you do this shit you will lose.”
The raven-haired boy wrenched his arm away and stepped back, glaring.
“Why the fuck do you care.”
Sasuke quickly replaced the arm guard hiding the marks and stood back, glowering at the man. An odd look crossed the illusion masters face but was quickly hidden by a wall of uncaring.
“I don’t want to see him dead either. If you’re high, you will not be able to help him.”
A loud crack and a scream of pain from the ally below made Sasuke cringed and started to bolt.
Again Koshi stopped him with a hand on his shoulder.
“I know you want to help him, but not like this. You’ll just be used against him. Go back.”
Sasuke felt sick and torn, he was even shaking, and he was sure Koshi could see.
“Go back Sasuke, Orochimaru can not know that you were here.”
A sudden movement from the side made Sasuke jump back in to the safety of the shadows. A lone shinobi came around the side of a near by, taller building and was walking toward his location. Whether or not he already knew Sasuke was there would not matter in 5 seconds when he would walk into the shadow of the split-level. Sasuke pulled out the kunai he had meant to use on Koshi and his eyes returned to the red color of the Sharingan.. He would not let this shinobi give away his position. As the shinobi was about to step in to the shadow, an arm wrapped around the raven haired teens waist and the disorientation of teleporting washed over him.
A poof of smoke and Sasuke was back in his room. The slight nauseous feeling he normally felt when teleporting was amplified by his feigning for the drug and he bolted for the bathroom before the smoke even had cleared.
He sensed Koshi’s presence in the bathroom and glared up from his hurling in the toilet. The fucking bastard was smiling at him.
“And you wanted to fight Orochimaru like this? I’ll help you get Naruto out of here. But no plan will work if you are tripping or dead. Got that?”
Sasuke nodded. Like this he was pathetic, he could hardly keep up with the blond when he was running over the rooftops. There were countless times during the leaps across the rooftops that he almost fell over or tripped from the nausea and vertigo. He knew that if he wanted to get Naruto away from this place, he would have to stop taking the drug.
But he wanted it.
Watching Naruto once again be beaten down by Orochimaru, and once again he was unable to stop it made him want it. It hurt inside in places he could not name to have watched Naruto go through that and have no one to help him. He wanted the hurt to go away. He wanted Narutos screams to stop echoing in his head. He wanted to stop throwing up and shaking so bad that others could see it.
There was a knock at the door and Sasuke watched as Koshi took two steps and vanished. He got up from the toilet and was halfway to the door when it opened and in stepped Kabuto. The silver haired traitor looked almost relived to see him here, Sasuke felt an urge to throw up know that Koshi was right.
“How do you feel Sasuke, you look sick.”
There was a demented look on the older teens face as he pushed his glasses up.
“Hn.”
“Orochimaru has plans for today and has given the day off to all people training here. Good for you, you look like you could use the day off.”
“I’m fine.”
“I’m sure.”
“What do you want?”
“To give you this.”
Kabuto pulled a full syringe out of his pocket. The liquid inside looked so wonderful, Sasuke could not take his eyes off it.
“You do know why you’re sick.”
“Hn.” his eyes never left the syringe.
“Two days with out heroin would give any addict withdrawal sickness.”
Sasuke blinked several times as that sunk in.
“Heroin? You fucking bastards gave me heroin for pain!”
“Why not? Its stronger than Morphine in that area and it makes you feel all nice and warm inside as an added benefit.”
Kabuto was grinning now as he rolled the syringe in his hand.
“Do you want it?”
‘Yes… NO! I have to help Naruto. I can’t if I’m zoned out. But I don’t feel as bad when I take it. It will make the sickness stop. I have to help Naruto get out of here. But I can’t if I’m sick and it won’t go away for 11 days.’
Kabuto watched as Sasuke waged an internal battle. He kinda hoped that the raven-haired boy would tell him just where he could stick this needle but then Sasuke would just be forced to take it.
Sasuke made his choice as a wave of nausea washed over him.
“Give me the drug.”
Kabuto raised his eyebrows at that.
“Are you sure you want it?”
“Yes.”
Sasuke held out his arm and removed the elbow guard showing the marks from the previous douses. He would stay on it and not be sick. He would help Naruto and when they got away then he could be sick. Right now he did not even have a plan to get out of here so there was no harm in him feeling good was there. Koshi was right, he could not help Naruto like he was now, so he’d take the drug not be sick and when the time came he would stop.
That’s what he kept telling himself at least.
Kabuto injected a few drops of the syringes contents in Sasukes arm and set it on to the night stand. Sasuke was standing in the middle of the room holding his arm eyes closed as the heroin rush took away any pain, physical or emotional, imagined or real.
He could stop any time he wanted he would just be sick for a while afterwards. He didn’t need this feeling and he could stop any time he wanted…Right?
He was not so sure when Naruto screaming in pain did not bother him any more.
