Chapter Eleven
The Warning
Sakura's eyes flickered open at around 9:30, sitting up and yawning deeply she rubbed her blurry eyes.
Good Morning Little Sister! Ha'ki'to purred.
Sakura glanced over at him. “What's got you in such a good mood?”
Nothing.
Nothing, my paw, Kitten he wouldn't let your mate anywhere near you and now you are late. Shi'i'na hissed indignantly.
Our Little Sister needed her sleep, and if I remember right you three agreed with me on keeping that disgusting thing the humans insist become her mate.
We did. Your point. She'li'na interrupted.
If I had allowed her human guardian…
Mate. Shi'i'na hissed.
Human guardian, Ha'ki'to insisted stubbornly, to wake her then she would have been forced into that things presence, besides the human male thinks this whole thing is amusing. Don't you? Ha'ki'to growled turning to the door.
Sakura turned to the door to find Kakashi leaning up against its frame. She didn't say anything for a moment, as she studied his face or what part of his face she could see.
“Good Morning, Sakura.” Kakashi greeted.
“Morning, Kakashi.” She glared at Ha'ki'to, “Dare I ask how late we are?”
“We're not late; I wouldn't have shown up for at least another hour anyway.”
“He was right you are amused.” Sakura shook her head in frustration. “Well never mind that now we have to get going.”
They managed to arrive in Tsunade's office only an hour later. Tsunade was pacing behind her desk swearing softly. Lee, who had arrived three hours early, sat at attention in front of the Hokage's desk. Just as Godaime was about to send a messenger for them, Sakura and Kakashi strode in followed by Sakura's entourage of cats.
“Well…” Tsunade glared at Kakashi. “What's your excuse this time?”
Sakura glared up at him. “Don't bother Tsunade-sama. He will just waste more time with his crazy stories, though I'll admit us being late wasn't entirely his fault. My Cat-kin are meddling as well.”
Tsunade accepted her answer. “I expected better from you Sakura but never mind, you are not the only late ones.”
Lee seeing his opportunity stood up, “Do not fear, My Love, I shall win your Cat friends over with the power of youth and…”
Suddenly the door burst open for the second time smacking into Lee soundly and throwing him across the room. “I found her.”
“Sasuke, what have I told you about opening doors? And why is it she was missing again? If I remember correctly I gave you specific instructions as to her care.”
“You did, Hokage-sama.” Sasuke muttered avoiding the topic.
“Never mind, we have wasted enough time for one day. Lee, for Kami's sake get off the floor.” Tsunade was beyond frustration at this point. “Midoriko, I will remind you again that while its great that you have found a friend in Naruto, you can't keep running off. Sasuke can't protect you if he isn't near you.”
Midoriko stared at the floor accepting the rebuke. Tsunade touched her shoulder gently. “It's time to teach these people the culture of your people so that they can blend in.”
Midoriko nodded. “Ok, the first thing you have to know is that…”
The door flew open again. A jounin that Sakura didn't recognize knelt in front of Tsunade. Tsunade wanted nothing more then to throw something. She had obviously pissed off one god or another because it seemed at this rate that training would never get started. Tsunade controlled her impulses. “Report, Jigan.”
“The situation in the Water country has grown worse, we lost two spies there already, and the gates to the city have been closed. I would advise against any action at this time.” The Jounin said softly before collapsing on the floor blood just beginning to show through his uniform.
This time Tsunade did throw something. She picked up her desk and through it out the window shattering it into a thousand tiny pieces. She regained her composure after a moment. “Sasuke, take Midoriko back to your family complex. Lee take Jigan to the hospital and Kakashi, I believe you and Sakura have some training to do? Now, everyone leave. Get out of my sight before I really lose my temper.” Her office cleared in a matter of minutes; sinking back into her chair she waited for them to carry her desk back up to her office.
**********
Sakura sat in the branches of a tree over looking the Konoha Memorial where Kakashi stood paying his respects. Sakura leaned back against the tree trunk and closed her eyes; she knew he would be there for awhile.
Suddenly, she heard a twig snap, her eyes flew open.
Do not be alarmed cat kin. The council has sent me to make sure you are safe. We have received word of…unrest and wanted to make sure our Kin is safe.
Sakura looked closely at the leopard. “What do you mean?”
Cat kin I can not understand you when you speak in the human tongue.
Sakura frowned and bit her lip, concentrating hard, “I'm sorry, my guardians always understand when I speak normally.”
That is because they are bonded to you.
“Oh. Ok then, back to my original question, what unrest? What does the council wish to protect me from?”
It is not my place to say Cat kin. Stay in the village. Do not go near bodies of waters and whatever you do, do not go to The Place of Long Waters.
“What is the Place of Long Waters?”
It is a den like your own, that rests on lake and is hidden in mist. No more questions Cat kin. Where are your guardians?
“They mentioned something about the hot springs after we left the Hokage's office you could check there.”
Very well, I bid you farewell my Kin.
“So who was that?”
Sakura jumped, “Kakashi?!” she gasped, “You nearly gave me a heart attack. That was a messenger from the council, they want me to steer clear of water and the Water country.”
Kakashi frowned, “Did he say why?”
“No,” Sakura shook her head, “he told me not to ask. Though, he is going to find my guardians so I'll ask them later.”
Kakashi grinned, “Don't worry too much about is Sakura, I'm sure your guardians will explain everything later. Meanwhile we have some training to do.”
Sakura returned Kakashi's grin with one of her own. “You're on.”
Kakashi leaned forward, kissed lightly on her grinning lips then vanished. “Catch me if you can…”
