Chapter 11:Blueberries and BirthThe heat of August is apparent on my forehead as sweat trickles down my neck. My eighth and a half month old belly sticks out of my shirt, looking around, questioning if it should poke out any farther. I look over across the field to see my two favorite boys busy picking blueberries. I go back to reading my book on medicinal herbs. ÒMommmaa!Ó I hear Jin exclaim. I stick my book mark back into my book and I watch as my two year old son comes running towards me, a pail of blueberries spilling out across the ground with each step he takes. ÒMomma! Me and daddy got lots of blubber berries!Ó I smile. ÒOhh! Let me see.Ó He pushes the pail into my hands and I smile. ItÕs only half full. ÒOh look at all of them! You and daddy sure worked hard. Guess iÕll have to reward you two. How about I make us some blueberry pie tonight?Ó A large small fills up his face. ÒYes Mama! A pie! Now up mommy!Ó I reach down as far as my arms will let me go, and I pull him up into my lap. ÒTheir we go.Ó I kiss the top of his head, his silvery hair smelling sweet and salty. ÒWanna look at Mommys book? ItÕs about plants.Ó I hand him the book. He opens it upside down and stares at the pictures. I grin and look up to find Kakashi standing in front of us, grinning. ÒHey mommy. How ya doing?Ó I smile at him. ÒIÕm quite content actually. Look Jin. That plants heals cuts and scraps like this one.Ó I pick up his little hand and I kiss the crescent moon shaped cut on the top of his thumb. ÒRemember when the rose bush cut you? I used that to heal this.Ó He grins up at me. Òall right. We best get inside. ItÕs getting dark.Ó Kakashi reaches down and picks up Jin while I push myself out of the chair. I fold the chair up and tuck it under my arm before taking Kakashis hand. As I put the pie in the oven, I feel my first contraction. ItÕs light and doesnÕt bother me so I continue baking the pie. I finish eating dinner with Kakashi and Jin and then I serve my pie. As we tuck Jin in bed, I smile over at Kakashi. ÒContractions started about an hour and a half ago. I wanted to get dinner done and Jin in bed before I told you.Ó He frowns. ÒYou should have told me as soon as they started. How's junior doing now?Ó I laugh. ÒThey only started hurting a few minutes ago and junior is very impatient to greet the world.Ó Kakashi calls my mother and she comes over soon after to watch Jin. ÒWonÕt be gone to long Mom. Make sure that Jin eats his carrot sticks at lunch time. Their in the fridge. Tell him I love him and when we get home he will have a new sibling to love.Ó I kiss my mothers cheek before Kakashi takes my hand and we go to the car. When we arrived, Kakashi insisted on putting me in a private room. I sit with my feet in the stirrups now. I have KakashiÕs hand and we are waiting for the doctor to tell me to start pushing. The contractions have really started to hurt and I am squeezing the life out of KakashiÕs hand. ÒOuch, Ouch, Ouch.Ó I say between clenched teeth. ÒFuck, Fuck, Fuck.Ó Kakashi says between clenched teeth. I look up at him. ÒSorry, but would you rather deliver or have your hand broken?Ó He gets my point and he shuts up. ÒPush Sakura!Ó My temple is throbbing and my back is aching as I strain my clenched muscles. ÒKakashi! More ice!Ó I shout. Kakashi dabs a towel on my perspiring forehead and slips more ice chips between my lips. He knows the routine. I yell out in pain. ÒPush Sakura. Almost their sweetie.Ó I give one more big push and then the sweet sound of our baby crying fills the room. The doctor cuts the umbilical cord and they take the baby to get cleaned up. Meanwhile iÕm going through the after birth. What a joy pregnancy is. After iÕm cleaned up and my legs are taken out of the stirrups, the baby is handed to me. ÒBeautiful baby girl, mom.Ó The doctor hands me her and I immediately start bawling. ÒI always cry. Even after I tell myself over and over again that I wonÕt cry I always do. Look at her Kakashi.Ó I stare intently at her shock of pink hair and her tiny scrunched up nose. And those lips. So petite and pink. He sits down next to me and touches her little cheek with his finger. ÒLook! She is struggling to get out of her blanket.Ó Kakashi says. Sure enough her little hands are flailing and she is struggling to get it off of her. ÒOur little butterfly trying to get out of her cocoon.Ó I say. I smile up at him. ÒWhat should we call her?Ó Just looking at him I can tell he has thought of the perfect name. ÒCho.Ó He says, kissing my lips. ÒCho and JIn. ItÕs perfect Kakashi.Ó
