Title: Child at Heart: Danger Lurking
Notes: I love this chapter for some reason. ^_^

------------------------------------------------------------

It was not long before the sun began to fill the dark sky. Sasuke promptly stood up and made his way towards his sleeping teammates. He hovered over Sakura, but decided not to wake her up, yet that is. He would have Naruto do it for him. He knew she was not a morning person and anyone who dared to disturb her slumber was bound to receive a threshing or two.

He stood still staring at her sleeping face; she looked so peaceful and beautiful. Why had he never noticed her before was still haunting him some nights. He hated himself for ignoring her most of his life; years he wasted which he could have spent with her. If only he had been a little bit nicer to her, she would have still been following after him like a baby chick does to a mother hen. He was not about to let "his" Sakura go without a fight and he was going to fight with all his might. He didn't want to loose her to anyone, especially Hyuga Neji.

He watched her breath slowly, exhaling in and out, her chest moved with the rhythm of her breathing. Her rosy pink lips were slightly parted open, plump lips that begged to be kissed, accompanied by a pretty blush that spread across her cheeks. Her beauty mesmerized him, and he had an overwhelming desire to have her emerald eyes gazing at him lovingly. He gently stroked her flushed cheek and moved some of her bubble-gum pink locks behind her ear.

"She's pretty, isn't she?" whispered a raspy voice from behind Sasuke. Sasuke froze, he recognized that voice anywhere and he knew it only meant trouble.

------------------------------------------------------------

"You called for me, Hinata-sama?" asked Neji as he politely bowed his head in respect.

"Yes I did, please sit down," Hinata calmly said while she gestured Neji to sit down on her bed.

He noticed Yamanaka Ino was sitting next to Hinata, painting her nails a purple-pink color with nail polish. He felt his stomach tighten; he had a bad feeling they were up to something.

"Neji-niisan, if you don't mind my curiosity, may I ask you some questions?" she asked with her best big puppy eyes, a trait which she successfully managed to learn from Naruto. Ino who was still painting her nails began to snicker; Neji could feel his eyebrows twitching.

"Not at all Hinata-sama," he irritably said.

"Neji-niisan, what do you think of Sakura-chan?" she shyly asked.

Neji took a deep breath and before he could answer Ino interrupted him, "Neji I hope you're not using Forehead-Girl to get Ten-Ten jealous," her smile altered into a bitter frown, "because if you are you'll regret being born a man."

He noticed that her last statement was dripping with venom. A threat, how amusing. Ino then turned her gaze from Hinata's nails to Neji. She had a big smile on her face.

"Care to explain what kind of relationship you have going on with Sakura? I hope you guys are using protection when you do the nasty! Better yet, what do you really think of her?" she asked with her biggest smile. Neji released a frustrated sigh; he had never known anyone in his life that could change moods so quickly.

"I'm attracted to her," he simply said and made his way out of Hinata's room.

Hinata and Ino kept staring into the direction Neji had left before Ino suddenly burst the silence, "That IDIOT!!! That wasn't a good answer!!!"

She suddenly became silent after she heard Hinata's giggles. She turned around and gave her a quizzical look.

"Neji-niisan isn't someone to talk about his personal life, so for him to say something like that means he's really interested in Sakura-chan."

"Oh, ok. I just find it kinda sad that Sakura has a habit for falling head over heels for dark, secretive men...sometimes I wonder about her," Ino said.

Hinata snapped her head up with a confused look, "How so?"

"Well, for starters: Sakura is very intelligent, but when it comes to love she's such and idiot; she's also very emotional," replied Ino.

"Yes, I guess your right, but if something does happen we'll be here for her," Hinata said as she smiled to her blonde friend, "I wonder how her mission is going?"

------------------------------------------------------------

He felt the cold tip of the kunai lingering over his bare neck.

"You do agree with me, right?" the raspy voice asked once again while applying some pressure into the kunai.

Sasuke's hands began to sweat; he needed to find a way to get out of this messy situation without getting Sakura involved.

"Ah, you're not going to answer me, you're a really stubborn ass you know."

Sasuke smirked and decided to play it cool. He slowly lifted his hands over his head to show his opponent that he was at a disadvantage.

"Its not like I would ever answer to an idiot like you," Sasuke shot back.

Before he could make his move against his opponent he received a sudden blow to the head. He fell face first towards the ground, but luckily something broke his fall...well, actually someone broke his fall.

Sasuke couldn't move he had never been this close to Sakura. Sakura's eyes had snapped opened the second she came into contact with another body. She was lying on her back being pinned by Sasuke's weight, his face buried deep into her chest. Her face flushed a deep red. He slowly lifted his head and met a pair of shocked emerald eyes. He felt a blush creep onto his face due to the position they were in.

"Sa...Sa...Sasu...Sasuke-kun?" she asked while turning a deeper shade of red. Upon hearing the -kun added to the end of his name Sasuke smirked. Sasuke didn't get the chance to savor the moment when he felt a soaring pain across his face. Sakura had slapped him and he never expected it. It was silent for a while; Sasuke was still on top of Sakura trying to register the fact that he had been slapped.

Naruto broke the silence with his laughter as he twirled his kunai in one hand. He was laughing so much he thought sides would explode. Both Sasuke and Sakura glared at the blonde boy who still laughing to his heart's content, which echoed throughout the forest causing the birds to fly away.
