Ch 4: Little White Dress

Tsunade stared at her prized pupil in surprise, as did everyone else present. The small delicate hand raised high in the air belonged to none other than Konoha’s favorite pink haired jounin, Sakura.

“Sakura, do you have a question?” Tsunade queried. The Hokage had no intentions of having the small sakura blossom before her attend such a depressive meeting. However, Sakura was there sitting on the window sill, her hand still raised high in the air. Tsunade cursed herself for missing the moment when the bright haired kunoichi came in.

“No Tsunade-sama, I want to go on the mission…I want to help bring Sasuke back.” Sakura admitted shyly. Sakura's eyes were focused on the carpet as she spoke. There were no words to describe the plethra of emotions running through her intelligent brain. She wasn't all together sure of what she was doing, but it seemed to be the right thing.

Tsunade at a lost for words, merely nodded her assent to the small woman, though her heart reached out to the young girl as her eyes pleaded with Sakura helplessly.

When the meeting had adjourned; Tsunade walked over to the young pink haired girl she loved so much, and the lazy silver haired elite she was now talking to.

The Hokage gave a small cough to alert them to her presence as she waited patiently for them to finish their conversation. Her amber eyes showed both kindness and concern as she addressed them, "I would like to speak to the both of you in my office for a moment."

“Hai Tsunade-sama.” They replied in unison.

They quickly followed the busty blonde, and bowed a short hello to Shizune before entering the attractive office.

The office was comfortably furnished with rich mahogany furniture. There were bookshelves on either side that were so completely filled with volumes upon volumes of books that it appeared to lean slightly forward with the weight. A desk sat in the center towards the back of the room and large windows adorned the back wall. The desk was covered with piles of important documents that had yet to be looked over. Kakashi shook his head upon seeing the paperwork. The Hokage was known to be slightly lazy without the help of her assistant, Shizune. A picture of the younger Tusnade and the love of her life Dan sat atop of her desk, as well as a picture of her younger brother. The two had died years ago in a war, and the memory of them had almost caused Tsunade to betray Konoha to the evil Orochimaru.

“Please have a seat Sakura, Kakashi I will be with you in a moment.”

Tsunade motioned to a chair and Sakura sat down. Kakashi merely leaned lazily against the large window at the back of the office overlooking the whole of Konoha. He peered out and watched a woman struggle to keep a hold of her child and her two large bags of groceries from the market. The child was in tears as he frantically tugged at his mother's sleeve. It seemed the young boy wanted a bright red rubber ball in the stand next to them. One firm pull, however, sent shiny red apples, carrots, and celery everywhere. Kakashi was dimly aware of the conversation between Tsunade and Sakura as he watched the scene below unfold.

“I assume you know why you’re here Sakura?”

Sakura sighed loudly.

“Yes Tsunade-sama, you want to make sure I’m absolutely certain about attending this mission, as well as why I am going, and you believe I am being too rash correct?”

“Yes that is exactly correct." Tsunade stammered as she fought to keep her voice free of all emotion from her former star student.

Upon hearing this, Kakashi turned his mind away from the now screaming child and desperate mother to observe his former student. He was quite curious himself it seemed. She appeared to be very tired, but a look of determination was plastered on her very very pretty face. His mind momentarily strayed back to a certain wet shinobi sun drying herself on a grassy dune. He shook his head and forced himself to keep his mind professional. After observing the young woman before him he had to say he was quite impressed with how well she was taking in all of this. He hadn’t believed she would even go to the meeting let alone sign up for a mission whose sole purpose was to find the very man that had betrayed her.

Sakura bit off a bit of loose skin on her right hand thumb as she gathered what she was about to say in her head. After a few moments, Sakura decided upon the cold hard truth, so she took a deep breath and began, “Tsunade-sama, what you have to realize is this: I have loved Uchiha Sasuke since I was a young girl of twelve. I have never given up hope on him and never will. I have always been there for him and I can’t let him down now, not when he needs me. It is for this sole reason that I have to believe there is still some good in him.” Sakura said all of this hurridly and as bluntly as possible. Tsunade wanted facts and there was no reason why Sakura shouldn't be forthright and give them to her.

“But Sakura…”

“Please let me continue. I realize that what he did to me is unforgivable in your eyes, but I have to believe that it wasn’t really him, that it was him under the influence of his hatred and anger towards Itachi. Furthermore, Konoha is his home and has looked after him even when he had nowhere else to run, so I am not inclined to believe that he would ever betray Konoha. I have to go on this mission so I…I can…”

At this point she dropped her head causing a pink curtain of hair to shield her face from them. Her hands drew themselves to her lap as they twisted themselves together in an attempt to keep Sakura going. When she finally managed to look back up, tears had started to form at the corners of her eyes making them a lucid green. She then gripped the arms of the chair hard trying to hold back the tears threatening to spill over.

“Damn it! Don’t you get it? I have to be able to look in his eyes and see for myself!” She finally yelled.

Completely taken aback by the bold language of Sakura she weakly consented, “If you are absolutely certain that this is something you want to do, then far be it from me to intervene, but Sakura, you better make it back in one piece!”

Sakura smiled through the tears that had now started to pour freely from the corners of her eyes, “Yes Tsunade-sama.” And with that Sakura bowed a hasty farewell, and took her leave. Watching Sakura leave, she then turned to the remaining guest of her humble office.

“Now Kakashi I have a favor to ask of you. I love Sakura-chan and trust her wholeheartedly, but I’m worried that she is rushing all of this. I do not believe she is ready to take this mission. I will be making you the leader of her squad so that you may keep an eye on her. Kakashi, I need you to look after her and make sure that when she does finally face Sasuke…she doesn’t kill him.”

Kakashi’s eyebrows arose at this last statement in surprise as he studied the deathly serious face of the Hokage, “But Godaime!, Surely you do not believe this to be possible?"

Kakashi was no fool he knew how incredible Sakura had become as a ninja, but he doubted even he could defeat the Uchiha genius.

“Sasuke is a very powerful man, I know this better than some and will never underestimate him, but do not underestimate our little Sakura either.
Under my direction and keen observation, she has grown more than you could ever imagine. I have trained her myself to be a skilled medic, as well as taught her how to control her chakra better. Under the guidance of Kurenai she has also become the second most powerful genjutsu user Konoha has ever seen. Not only this, but she has worked herself to the point of exhaustion on her Taijutsu and use of weapons with Gai-sama and Tenten-chan. All her hard work coupled with extreme anger will make her an almost unbeatable force. ”

Kakashi half expected her to say “Psyche!” but Tsunade’s face remained unchanged, and he knew she was serious. Kakashi’s eyes were wide with astonishment. What happened to the little girl who always fell short of Naruto and Sasuke? Not in a million years did he think that she would ever become an extremely powerful ninja. He was very eager now, to watch his little cherry blossom in battle.

He gave a slow nod as the realization settled upon him, “You have my word Tsunade-sama.”

“Very good, your squad will leave in four days time at one o’clock PM. I will give you further instructions at that time.

Kakashi bowed and headed for the door.

“Oh, and Kakashi?”

He stopped in his tracks and turned around to gaze at her.

“Don’t be late!”

Kakashi smiled shook his head and made his way out the door.

Three days had passed, and Sakura knew she would be leaving the next day. Her heart seemed to travel a thousand times per minute every time she thought about seeing the young Uchiha. A black duffel bag sat on her bead with all the things she needed already packed and ready to go. Naruto and Hinata had invited her to a sort of farewell party between the Jounins of the villiage. Sakura was surprised at hearing it was Naruto's idea to have it somewhere very nice, seeing as how there would be no ramen avaliable to him in the restraunt. Naruto and Hinata had missed the meeteing three days earlier, because Hinata's younger sister Hanabi had fallen ill. Both Jounins had accepted the mission and were eager to start. Sakura thought that the two of them made a lovely couple and was thrilled to hear they would be able to be in the same squad together. She couldn’t imagine what it would have been like for them if they were split up. They seemed to never be apart from each other!

Sakura had just stepped out of the shower, and her beautiful shoulder length hair was in the process of being tormented by hot air. After that task had been accomplished she began to search for her make-up bag. She dipped a small brush into a pot of a light crème shade and applied it to her inner lid, she then dipped the brush in a darker more mahogany brown and applied that to the crease of her eyes and the very outer corner of her eye. She then applied a dark brown eyeliner and some Mascera. She stepped back a moment to admire her work and gazed upon her eyes in awe. The browns had made her green eyes sparkle with the luster of Emeralds. The effect was quite breathtaking and she voiced aloud a thank you to Ino for the makeup. Next she applied a light pink blush and some shiny pink gloss to her lips.

Sakura then retrieved the beautiful white dress her mother had given her as a birthday present. It slid over her head and settled on her curvy hips. The dress was one of her favorites as it was both simple and beautiful. The dress was brilliant white in color having an empire waistline and a halter top strap. The dress did wonders to the milky white of her skin and showed off lovely shoulders. It came down a little more than mid thigh with a slight slit up the left leg. It was tight fitting and showed off every curve of the busty young girl, without being overly revealing. She arranged her hair in a series of romantic twists and curls upon her head using bobby pins ending in white roses. Her bangs hung to the right side of her face and the little white roses popped up against the bright pink of her hair. She grabbed a small white clutch near the door and headed out.

The night was warm, and she took her time walking to the restraunt. The cherry trees were in bloom and the air was alive with their smell.

When she arrived at the restaurant she found that almost all of her friends were already there sitting at a long rectangular table arranged in the middle.

Naruto was the first to notice her come in, and came bounding towards his best friend wearing a huge goofy grin on his face.

“Wow Sakura-chan! You look beautiful!”

She smiled sweetly greatly appreciating the compliment, “Thanks, Naruto-kun!.”

He showed her to a seat between Ino and himself, motioning for her to sit. The beautiful blonde was wearing a strapless dress that was a shade similar to the color of her clear blue eyes.

“Hey Ino!”

“OH MY GOD! You look hot!” Ino ran over to her best friend giving they startled kunoichi a tight hug. Sakura giggled a little as she did her best to remove the clutching girl from her person.

“You’re not so bad yourself!” She winked. Sakura quickly sat down before anyone else had the chance to glomp her and looked around. She noticed every one of her friends were there. Kiba, Shino, Lee, Neji, Naruto, Shikamaru, and Chouji were all deep in conversation while Tenten, Hinata, and Ino exclaimed excited words of appraisal at Sakura's dress. Sakura also observed that almost all of the elite nins were there as well.

A little in front of her and to her left, sat her favorite lazy sensei.

“Kakashi-senpai! , how are you?”

Kakashi had been busy talking to Asuma when she had arrived, and had not yet noticed her. When he saw her though, in the beautiful dress, he barely managed to stammer out, "Wow Sakura, you look beautiful." If Sakura had been able to see under Kakshi's mask, she would have seen his mouth wide open in shock.

“You like?” She teased as she twirled a loose pink strand around her finger.

“Yeah I do, Sakura, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in a dress before.” Sakura mentally sweat dropped as she realized this was probably true and laughed nervously.

“Well there is a first time for everything! Take a good long look, because after tonight I won’t wear one again until we get back.” Kakashi seemed to take Sakura's advice to heart as his eyes wandered over the form of his former student.

After a few yummy drinks and good food, Sakura decided it was probably time to go. She had had a good time and had been so busy talking that she hadn’t noticed how the esteemed copy ninja couldn’t seem to pry his eyes from her. He felt like he was back in that clearing a couple of weeks ago watching the water slowly disappear down into the depths of her cleavage. This time though he was also thinking about how this amazingly beautiful woman was the same powerful ninja Tsunade had talked about. He watched a soft pink strand fall once again in her face, and once again he watched her brush it aside. Damn! He had been gone way to long.

That night while lying in his bed, Kakashi dreamed about an exquisite woman with pink hair in a little white dress…
