Ino Yamanaka and Shikamaru Nara searched the woods for their lost friend.
“I can’t believe he’s not in any of the restaurants, they haven’t even seen him today.” exclaimed a slightly worried Ino. “What do you think he’s doing? OH MY GOD!!! Do you think he has a girlfriend, that would be so awesome! It’s about time too.”
‘Why does Ino babble on like that? It’s been that way since we were twelve. It’s been four years you’d think she could at least have gotten a little more mature.’ Shikamaru thought to himself completely annoyed.
“I guess we’ll have to look for him, we have to meet Asuma sensei in an hour. This is such a drag.” complained a lazy Shikamaru.
“Shikamaru you lazy bum, this will be fun! Like playing hide and seek.” Ino then began to skip merrily along the path. She suddenly stopped when she saw something familiar. “Hey, take a look at this. Don’t they look exactly like Choji’s footprints?”
Shikamaru took his time catching up with Ino. He bent down slowly to examine the foot prints. They were deep into the ground, which leads to the conclusion that this person was heavy. “They are Choji’s footprints; they’re headed towards the forest.”
“Why would he go to the forest? Do you think he’s hiding something? Maybe he turned into a tree hugger and is now fighting to save a tree! Or maybe he’s going on diet that only lets you eat herbs found in the forest. No no no wait! I got it he’s-”
“Can you shut up already? If I knew why he went into the forest I would tell you. Stop being such a drag.” Shikamaru interrupted Ino’s thinking. Ino looked slightly appalled at his sudden out burst.
“Stop being such a drag.” Ino mocked him, making herself laugh. He pretended not to hear that comment.
With Ino so far ahead of him he tried to make her slow down. “If you keep walking so fast your gonna give yourself an ulcer.” She slowed down a little and they walked side-by-side towards the forest. They searched in silence and found nothing.
“Your going too slow we’re supposed to meet Asuma sensei in 10 minutes. I’ll go up ahead.” With that said Ino darted out of sight. Shikamaru took his time searching everything carefully for any sign of Choji. ‘If this is a joke it’s not funny. What could he be thinking?’ Just then an ear splitting scream pulled him out of his thoughts. ‘That’s Ino!’ That shriek was not a shriek of pain or surprise. It was a shriek of pure horror, like the ones you hear in horror movies. That scream sent a chill up and down his spine. Shikamaru knew something was terribly wrong and hurried to catch up with his comrade.
When he finally caught up he did not notice anything but his petrified friend. “Ino what’s wrong!?” he asked extremely worried. She tried to speak but found that she could not. Instead she pointed a trembling finger at the lifeless mound. Shikamaru followed her hand and when he saw what she pointed at froze dead in his tracks. Time seemed to have stopped as he looked at Choji’s corpse. He was in complete and total shock. ‘Who would do this?’ was all that was running through his mind.
Ino didn’t want to be alone any more so she ran towards Shikamaru and draped her arms around his neck. She began to sob hysterically and found herself unable to stop. Shikamaru was startled at Ino’s sudden meltdown, and wished nothing more than to do the same thing. He had to keep himself together for Ino’s sake. He tried to comfort her by embracing her in a hug and then began to stroke her long blonde hair. “It’ll be okay. Try and calm down.”
After a few minutes her sobs turned into soft whimpers. When she was no longer hyperventilating he let go of her and walked to Choji’s body. He tried and failed to pick him up by himself. ‘Why does he have to be so damn heavy?’
“You get his other arm; we should bring him to Asuma sensei.” Shikamaru commanded. Ino did not trust herself to speak so instead she nodded in agreement to his order. Together they struggled to get back to their sensei, the weight of their friend almost crushing them. They went back the way the came in complete silence. It seems like the forest is sharing their grief because not a single animal could be heard.
As they reached the entrance to the small town they saw their sensei’s face almost red with anger. They were after all an over an hour late. When he saw them his expression quickly changed to that of worry.
“What’s wrong with him? Pass out, again?” asked Asuma as he made his way to his pupils.
“He’s d-d-dead.” said Ino’s soft and cracked voice. It’s the first thing she said since we found the body and you could tell she didn’t want to say it.
Being down one person was hard. Shikamaru and Ino had to accomplish all their missions on there own. Somehow they survived.

It’s been a week since that horrible day. The funeral was taking place. Everyone who knew him is there, wearing nothing but black. The sky was as dark and ominous as everyone’s mood. One by one all the shinobi of the Hidden Leaf Village put a single rose on his coffin. Once everyone was done they lowered it into the ground and buried him.
