Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ Desert Nights ❯ One-Shot

In the long hours of the night when the rest of the world slept peacefully, Gaara read.
Not because he particularly liked it, but rather because there was simply nothing better to do. One tends to get bored when their day is eight hours longer than everyone else's.
And so, Gaara would read everything from VCR manuals to historic novels. So far, his favorite book was probably that one on Ebola. He had also liked that play Titus Andronicus, but then, a lot of things by Shakespeare had happy endings.
Then there were all of those random scrolls lying around the house; those often had interesting things on them. One of the advantages to being the Kazekage's son, he supposed.
But there weren't allways interesting things to read, and he had wound up reading a lot of trashy romance novels. He didn't quite understand those, but Kankuro seemed to like them well enough.
And there were also times when he got so desperately bored he would end up reading things that he probably shouldn't have. After finding both Kankuro and Temari's hentai, he had decided that he'd rather not `swing either way', and just be nonsexual.
In fact, it would be best if he could avoid this whole puberty thing altogether. He had read Temari's copy of Your Body andYou, and while this `menstruation' did sound interesting, it still seemed far from pleasant.
Actually, he hadn't really understood everything in that one, and had wound up dictionaries and thesauri afterwards, which didn't help him understand the book any (he had forgotten why he had started reading them), but they had vastly improved his grammatical and vocabulary skills.
In fact, at this point he bet he could write a book himself.
But he wouldn't write about anything he knew; he'd write a trashy romance novel. Just to throw everyone off. It couldn't be too hard; they all seemed to follow a pretty standard format, so all he would have to do would be to change the places and a few of the names and he'd have a bestseller.
On second thought, maybe he should stay out of writing; knowing him he'd get a little too caught up in the writing and the whole story would turn into a huge bloodbath.
Yes, he would just stick to the things he understood: reading and killing.
Next, he decided, he would learn French.
