New Life

Violent winds swept through the secondary small village of the Hidden Sand, a cry pierces the howling winds in agony.

 

“Come on dear your almost there” Brace held onto his wives hand painfully as she went through her labors in the cold darkness. Long shaggy blond hair drapes in front of his hazel blue eyes, hiding dark circles cause by severe insomnia. His only thought was that his child be born without the mark and that his wife lives through this traumatic but necessary experience.

 

“I see the head” The mid wife cries happily” Keep pushing Hari it's almost over, now one last push, come on sugar.” She brush's sweat away from her eyes and kneels before the laboring women on the bed.

*We need to get this child out* Kani thinks feverently, *she's been in labor for 36 hours* Biting her lower lip in uncertainty, looking into the strained face of her step-sister she wills her to push this poor thing out, if not for the child then for her own good, too many variables when you mess with…daemons. She glares under her hair at Brace, damn Brace who had a daemon wolf in him, the same that killed their parents, sealed in him by her father. Now he might take her sister in child bed. Fate was cruelly ironic at times.

 

“AHHHHUGH!!!” Hari cries out as her body convulses and then relaxes with a sigh as a high cry pieces the night's winds with protests. She collapses and gazes half awake with exhaustion at the bundle in her little step sisters arm, and then to the dismayed look on her face.

“What's wrong?” She whispers in uncertainty.

 

Looking at her sister with unsure eyes, she lays the squirming pile in her trembling sisters out reaching arms.

“She's perfect except….you passed down the mark of Suna Ookami.” She glares at Brace with detest and uncertainty.” What's this mean for her?”

Brace looks back and down at the quiet newborn as she looks around for the first time with eyes wide open and a small smile of her face.” She'll do fine….Her name will be Sabuku Oomaki Bara”

“Bara…my little Bara” Hari smiles down at her new born uncaring and not noticing the seal on her belly that stands out in vivid black at first then fades away until it is completely gone. “She's perfect Brace, look at her”

 

Braces grins and touches one small hand as father and daughter look into one another's eyes. In his mind wondering how the cursed wolf was passed down to his daughter, the seal was there if not now. Wasn't it only supposed to be put and sealed inside him? Was his little one…a reincarnation? Did that make her a newborn dea….no he mustn't think that way. She's fine and she'll be a normal little girl, no insomnia, no dark rings around those little eyes. He prays.
