Mistress Yami:

W00t! My second Naruto story! A third one still in the processesss… I had it all written out and then I left the journal I had it in somewhere.

I have always wanted to write some ItachiSasuke, I just love that pair. Almost as much as I love SasuNaru. ( I like SakuSasu too so bleh :P ) I actually like a lot of the pairings that can be put together in Naruto. There are enough bishies to do it with!

Well I hope you guys will enjoy this as much as I will enjoy writing it!

Well onto chapter 1!

Chapter 1- Haunting

Droplets of fear brought sweat dripped down his body, slowly moving along his pale skin until they melted into the sheets and clothing he wore, dampening them. His hand twitched and clenched, as if trying to grab something that he was dreaming of.

The boy's body jerked up as his eyes flew open the last few droplets of sweat dripping from his brow down to his nose where it clung for a second before dropping onto the hand that was clenching the sheets. The boy let his head lean down, his ebony bangs covering his face.

He let out a soft curse and pulled over the covers. He then slipped his legs off of the bed and began to walk towards his bathroom. He paused briefly as he touched the cold handle of the door, it was a comforting feeling compared to the heat in his bed. Closing the door behind him he stepped towards the skin. As he turned the knob his thoughts drifted to the dream he had just awoken from.

“Tch.”

The boy dipped his head down and soaked it in the ice cold water that was spewing from the faucet. Deciding he should stop before he got himself sick he turned the water off and flipped his hair back out of his eyes. His eyes caught himself in the mirror placed above the sink and he frowned. Even now he couldn't do anything about it. Even now that he was far away he was still walking in his shadow.

“But there are no brothers like us in the world. I'll always be with you, as the wall you should overcome. Even if you were to hate me. That's what an older brother is for.”

The image in the mirror changed into Itachi, his brother. Another curse escaped from the boy before he drew back his fist and punched in the mirror. The shards fell down from the mirror, scratching at his skin as they did. He wasn't going to be like him. He wasn't.

Sasuke turned around and walked back to his bed. He gently touched the damp sheets before pulling the blanket and throwing it aside. Everything…. Everything around him was just a reminder of how much he feared… hated…. How badly he was obsessed with his brother. Then again…. Was he to blame for such behavior?

Turning his head to the door he sank to the floor in front of his bed. Sasuke lifted his hands against his head and tilted his head towards his knees. Although he tried to clear his thoughts they all kept coming back to Itachi… it seemed no matter the time his brother haunted every aspect of his life.

With a frustrated sigh he got himself back into bed. Sasuke then spent the next ten minutes desperately trying to get back to sleep and maybe this time get some rest. These dreams weren't exactly restful. An entire hour had passed of bothersome turning around, trying to find a comfortable spot on the bed. Which for some reason only made him think of his brother.

Closing his eyes he kicked the covers off of himself once more and quickly changed his clothes and slipped on his shoes. Within minutes he had disappeared from his house. Sasuke took in a deep breath of night air as he leapt from rooftop to rooftop. His muscles twitched slightly as he noticed himself being watched. He wasn't really expecting anything else. After his trip to Orochimaru it wasn't easy for him to go somewhere without being watched, at least at night. The people who knew about his disappearance were slowly starting to trust them. He wasn't going to destroy that again.

Focusing again on the path before him he made his way towards the woods near the Uchiha sector… or more properly what once was the Uchiha sector of Konoha. There was the practice area where he had watched his brother practice many times. The elusive blind spot he had so desperately tried to hit after seeing his brother do it and only succeeding in spraining his ankle. Sasuke almost smiled at the memory… almost.

He paused at the edge of the woods and slowed himself down for a walk.

Sasuke and Itachi were at the training site; Sasuke crouching beside a tree and Itachi standing in front of the rock in the clearing. Sasuke swallowed nervously as he watched his brother prepare to hit all of the targets, even the blind spot behind the rock which Sasuke had earlier guessed there was no way to hit.

Jumping up Itachi flipped over and released the kunai's in his hands one by one after another until only two remained. Which he threw at the same time to hit two of the kunai's he had previously thrown to bring them to hit the different targets placed around the clearing on the trees and ground. Sasuke watched in awe as Itachi landed perfectly on the ground in a crouch.

“That's amazing brother! You hit dead center even in the blind spot behind this rock.” Sasuke exclaimed before pulling out his own kunai's. “Okay! I can…!”

“Sasuke, let's go home,” Itachi announced suddenly.

Sasuke turned his head to his brother and pouted, “You said you'd teach me a new shuriken technique, remember?”

“I have an important mission tomorrow and need to prepare for it,” Itachi explained to Sasuke, who turned away from him, continuing his cute pouting.

“You liar.”

Itachi stared with a remorseful expression at his little brother. Even though Sasuke was pouting he still came over as his brother waved to him.

“Forgive me Sasuke. Next time, okay,” he said as he tapped Sasuke on the forehead.

“Ouch,” Sasuke muttered as he proceeded to glare up at his older brother. His expression changed to stubbornness as his brother watched him in confusion. “Watch me brother.”

As Sasuke ran off to try it his brother called out ,”Hey! If you overdo it…”

Sasuke opened his eyes and stared at the targets that were still there after all these years. Not that many people ever walked around the tragic Uchiha sector. It wasn't pleasant to look at the cracked walls that surrounded the place. There was even a small game amongst the younger children that whoever could spend the longest time or go the farthest into the cursed grounds would win. It was a game of dare for they said that if you looked long enough or went far enough in, you could still see the dead Uchiha family members walking around, unable to accept the fact that they were dead and nonetheless by their own star family member's hands.

Sasuke drew a kunai out of his pocket and threw it at the target on the ground, the blind spot. He watched as the kunai hit dead center but with enough force to cause the entire target to break apart. Then again it was wooden and somewhat old. That didn't matter though as Sasuke watched the pieces fall apart much like his life had.

After picking up the kunai that he had thrown he moved to the center of the clearing, in front of the rock and across from the blind spot. He closed his dark eyes as he drew the kunai's from his pocket. His muscles contracted as he pushed himself up into the air, mimicking the moves his brother had perform almost perfectly. As he fell back down he released the kunais one by one as his brother had done and listened to the satisfying `thunk' that emitted from them as they hit the targets.

Sasuke landed on the ground like a cat. Although Sasuke had been able to do this perfectly for a long time it didn't matter. Back in the old days… back in the past… where he had been relatively happy… hitting all of the targets would've meant that he had somehow managed to catch up to his brother or was getting close. But now Sasuke knew better. As proven by their previous brief encounters they were still far apart. So far apart…

Mistress Yami:

And thus chapter one ends. It was REALLY hard to start and end this since I didn't know exactly what I was doing.
As I said I haven't written much Naruto and they have such complex and deep characters I'm scared I'll butcher them in my writing so I apologize in advance for character butcherment.
I also had a hard time trying to decide when this would be taking place. I really wanted to have more of Sasuke concentrating on his brother than at the beginning of the series so I picked this. Uwaah. This is gonna be a tough one to plan out properly!
So please leave me nice and encouraging reviews! I promise it gets better if you're willing to stick around!

And I won't update this one for awhile because I want to see what the first response for it is. I have a second chapter ready so.
