Differences and Changes


Chapter I Unexpected Love

Uchiha Itachi was perfectly fine with the way his life was at the moment. He went on missions, killed people, and that was basically it. No woman had wormed her way into his heart. The only people he held dear to his heart and would protect with his life was Sasuke and Naruto. You are probably thinking why Naruto, but you really do not know Itachi that well. When he first met the blonde he had almost denied that this child was the Kyuubi holder but Kisame assured him that Naruto was the holder of Kyuubi no Kitsune. From the way Naruto reacted towards Itachi when he attacked Sasuke, Itachi knew that his brother was in capable hands. Then Sasuke left Konoha to join up with Orochimaru. Itachi was ready to retrieve Sasuke himself but Naruto beat him to it. In the course of three years Naruto was able to get strong enough to kill the snake sennin and rescue Sasuke. Itachi visited Sasuke the following week and smacked Sasuke for being foolish. ‘As always’ Itachi thought and smiled, scaring his partner. They had been traveling for days now without stopping and Itachi was getting aggravated with Kisame. Itachi could take so much of him that if they were stuck with each other for more than a week, Itachi would most likely try to kill Kisame.

They were nearing an abandoned village that had been attacked in previous years by a wolf demon. The mission was for Itachi and Kisame to see if it was true and to attain the demon. Itachi had other plans. Kisame was prepared for whatever might come up in the village; Itachi was prepared to kill him when they got there. There was a secret amongst the Uchiha clan that no one knew but Naruto, knowing Kyuubi had already told the blonde. That secret remained between Sasuke and himself, Itachi. From what Itachi could see, it was time for Kisame to go and for part one of his real mission to commence.


Kisame walked alongside his partner. Itachi was unusually quiet, more than usual. Kisame was always able to talk to the shorter man but lately he had been getting the wrong reactions from the sharingan user. Kisame had almost been killed on several occasions and from what Leader had told him, Kisame was to be extremely careful. The leader of Akatsuki had informed Kisame that Itachi had formerly belonged, and still did belong, in a specials group that came from Konoha and that Kisame had to be on his guard. It explained why Itachi was so persistent on getting rid of Kisame. Now, Itachi was on close surveillance and he could not do anything. Kisame smirked at the thought that his partner thought he was sneaky but now he is caught and he can’t do a thing.


Maito Gai could say that his day started off great. The birds were flying around, there was a light breeze, and it was a beautiful spring day full of youthful energy and Rock Lee kissing Tenten. Gai stopped in his tracks. He was heading towards the Hokage’s office but he spotted two of his students making out underneath a Sakura tree. Gai shook his head and continued walking. He would reprimand Lee later; right now he needed to head to Tsunade’s office.

Gai reached Tsunade’s office door and knocked. He heard a muffled “Enter” before opening the door. He saw Naruto and Sasuke. Gai wondered why they were there but he figured that Tsunade would tell him. Gai bowed in respect and waited for Tsunade to speak.

“Gai you know why you are here but I bet your wondering why Naruto and Sasuke are here.” Gai nodded. “The abandoned village you are going to has been attacked for years by a wolf demon even when the village was inhabited, as you know. Well, considering Sasuke’s position, no thanks to his clan, Sasuke will be joining you since he knows a lot about wolf demons since he is a holder of one.” Gai looked at Naruto and Sasuke and noticed something. Naruto had a pair of fox ears and a fox tail which was not surprising, but Sasuke had wolf ears and tail which surprised Gai greatly. “He will tell you the reason for the way he is later but right now it is important that this demon does not fall into the hands of the Akatsuki. Surprisingly enough, Orochimaru has agreed to help throw Akatsuki off the trail to bide us some time.” Gai smiled. ’That snake still loves Tsunade. What a hopeless romantic.’ Tsunade caught the smiles that were being hidden behind hands and shadows. “It has nothing to do with him still liking me!” The three shinobi gave her the ’yeah right’ look. Tsunade continued in an annoyed tone. “Well as I was saying, Orochimaru has agreed to help. Naruto is joining you because his senses are a lot sharper than Sasuke’s due to having Kyuubi in his body longer than Sasuke. There will be another joining you but he is still on a mission. When he rids himself of his target he will join you. Let me warn you Gai, he is from the demon squad like Naruto and Sasuke so do not test him and do not be surprised at whom it is.” Tsunade narrowed her eyes at the Taijutsu specialist before turning to Naruto. “Naruto, if Yami Neko is having trouble getting rid of his target, feel free to help him.” Naruto nodded. “Good, I will see the four of you in a few days. In other words, bring Yami Neko with you.” Sasuke smiled and bowed before leaving with the others.

If you told Gai that he was going to fall in love with Uchiha Itachi, he would have laughed at you and called you crazy, but he was not thinking about that right now. He was thinking about the mystery ninja that was to join them soon. Gai had a feeling that it was someone he met before but thought nothing of it. He thought back to the demon squad that was kept hush in the village. Very few shinobi knew of the squad and were urged to keep quiet about it. He knew Naruto was in it but he did not know about Sasuke. Gai turned his gaze to the youngest Uchiha and noticed that he was looking at him. Sasuke turned from him and leaned over to Naruto who nodded his head and smiled. Sasuke smiled back and kissed Naruto softly on the lips before Naruto jumped into a tree and disappeared. Gai turned to Sasuke wondering why Naruto left and saw that the softness in his eyes had left and they were replaced with cold hatred and loathing.

“You are wondering why I am in the squad and why Naruto just left.” Gai nodded “Naruto left because I want to talk to you about this alone.”

“So he knows?”

“Yes.”

“Is there a reason why Tsunade…”

“Let me explain. You know my family is one of the most feared clans other than the Hyuuga’s. Well when Itachi was born my father realized that he gained the third eye that is only prominent in my mother’s side of the family. The third eye is another level of sharingan that the females of my mothers family have but Itachi was lucky enough to inherit it, but there is a downside to it. The third eye is only obtainable when the user is married off and taken by the one they love the most.”

“So how did your father find out?”

“When Itachi was born the sharingan was activated as was the third eye. That happens with every female that has it in my mother’s family.”

“There is another reason why your father got upset”

“Yes. The one who has the third eye sharingan is soft hearted and kind and rarely kills and they avoid battle at all costs. So you can imagine what my father’s reaction was, so when Itachi was five he entered the academy at the genin level and passed. My mother was pissed as was her family. My father was persistent that Itachi be introduced to death early so my mothers family traits does not take over, but the Hyuuga’s found my father a crazy lunatic. So the head of the main branch and his brother, Hinata’s father and Neji’s father, created a jutsu that was an alter personality. It was to protect Itachi at all times and keep the real Itachi safe and unharmed from murder, rape, and anything that would allow him to lose the third eye. My father did not know and we kept it that way. Then my father got the bright idea to seal a cat demon inside my brother. That move almost deactivated the jutsu but thank god the cat demon figured everything out and strengthened the jutsu. Then I was born and my father was happy that I did not inherit the third eye but he still had plans for me. Everything went fine until I turned seven. My father put his plans into action and sealed a wolf demon inside me. Well my mom was not too happy about that either but it was enough to alert the jutsu that was placed on Itachi. Since the jutsu was originally created to protect Itachi that is exactly what it did. The alter personality felt threatened and killed off the clan.”

“But why leave you?”

“You think Itachi has no control over it do you? The real Itachi stopped the alter from killing me.”

“Oh…so Itachi really did not…”

“No. He didn’t.”

“Interesting.”

“No w you know.”

“One question”

“Hai?”

“Is Itachi the one we are meeting up with soon?”

“Hai.”

“Thanks.” Sasuke looked at Gai and shrugged. They walked for a few more minutes before they spotted Naruto in a clearing making lunch.


Itachi sat in a tree looking at Kisame. Kisame had the feeling that Itachi was not in a good mood so he kept his mouth shut and stayed away from the brooding Uchiha. Itachi on the other hand was waiting for an opening so he could kill Kisame and join Naruto and his little brother, but Kisame was not giving him the chance to do so. Itachi stared at him from under the hat with his Mangekyou activated. It seemed that his partner had figured out about Itachi’s little plan and was trying his best to ruin it. Itachi mentally shrugged as he saw Kisame drop his guard for a moment. Taking the lucky chance Itachi threw a kunai and saw it hit its mark. Kisame hit the ground with a heavy thud. He was breathing hard as searing pain shot through his chest and his senses were shutting down. He knew Itachi had left his perch in the tree and was currently watching him die. Kisame tried to form words but a gurgling sound slipped out of his mouth instead. Kisame looked up to see Itachi raising his katana before finally dying by the blade of Itachi’s katana.

Itachi sheathed the weapon he received from when he was in ANBU and turned from Kisame’s dead form and walked over to his belongings and packed whatever food that was not cooked yet before leaving the campsite. Itachi sniffed around a cit before picking up on Naruto and Sasuke’s scent along with someone else’s. Itachi tried to figure out who it was while he changed his direction north, the way Naruto and Sasuke traveled with their guest. Itachi did not get far before he spotted the small campsite in which Naruto was cooking and Sasuke was talking to…’Gai? Great…just great. I’m stuck with my crush. Damn Tsunade’

Naruto looked up from the fire to see Itachi standing next to him. Naruto smiled and motioned towards Sasuke and Gai. Itachi shook his head before sitting next to Naruto. Sasuke stared at him for a few seconds then got up and whispered something in Naruto’s ear. Naruto giggled and got up following Sasuke away from the clearing while Itachi sat by the fire staring off into the flames. Gai watched him for a bit before joining the elder sharingan user and watching the flames with less intent than Itachi. Minutes passed by the silent pair as Gai stabbed at the dying embers with a stick. Itachi dared to steal a glance at the man but he found that the taijutsu specialist was already staring at him. Itachi looked away and looked into the dying flames but he was distracted from his thoughts when Gai grabbed his chin and kissed him. Itachi froze not knowing what to do but within a few seconds of the kiss, Itachi’s mind kicked in and demanded him to kiss back, in which Itachi did. While Gai and Itachi kissed by the smoldering fire, Naruto and Sasuke were a few yards away watching the pair with amused grins on their faces.

“Do you thing it is going to last once we’re back at the village?”

“I don’t know Naruto. We will have to wait and see” ’Wait and see indeed. Maito Gai, I promise you this, hurt my brother and you will have me to contend with.’ With that thought in mind Sasuke kept watching his brother and Gai before reappearing at the campsite.
