Chapter 8
Hiashi looked down at his daughter in surprise. He'd just returned from a long diplomatic mission and found that his eldest daughter was pregnant, but no one had bothered to inform him of the fact while he'd been away. Yet here she was standing in the entry way to his office, next to the shelf where he'd been re-placing a book, just beginning to really round out.
“So you finally fulfilled your duty to the Uchiha and Hyuuga clans,” Hiashi grunted, turning and wandering to his desk. He settled into his chair and rested his chin on his interlaced fingers, watching as she seated herself, folding her hands over the swell of her belly. “Good girl,” he murmured, sounding very much like he was praising her for washing her face before dinner, rather than for creating a new life.
“Good morning father,” she murmured, mildly annoyed at his tone, but pressing on any way. She might as well try, even if he didn't. He rarely did anymore, straining their relationship horribly. Not that they'd had your typically loving father-daughter relationship to begin with. He was too devoted to duty and honor to just simply love those around him simply for the sake of love. “How was your mission?”
“Long and successful,” he sighed, shrugging, not elaborating and her not expecting it. His mission had been rather sensitive in nature and likely none of her concern. “What does Uchiha say about the child?” he asked outright.
“I'm having twins, and he doesn't know about them,” she said softly, her eyes filling with a startling pain he didn't understand.
Hiashi blinked in surprise. Twins and Sasuke didn't know? How could he not notice the huge swelling of his tiny wife? Was he blind? Had they perhaps had a falling out while he was away and the Uchiha had abandoned his wife? “How is that even possible? Are you avoiding his bed again, girl?”
“I never avoided his bed or any other location he chose, for that matter,” she snapped back uncharacteristically. “Gods what is wrong with you? Is my falling in Sasuke's bed every moment of the day the only thing you care about? What about my happiness, my work, or my training? And by the way, Father, so good of you to rush home to comfort me after my loss. How could even you be so cold to abandon me like this? It's been five months!” Hinata couldn't remember ever being so angry at anyone in her life, and could hardly believe the words that were tumbling out of her mouth.
“What are you talking about?” Hiashi growled, sitting up straight and staring at her. His typically shy daughter was absolutely shaking with rage, something he didn't think he'd ever witnessed before. It was a little startling to say the least. Did he miss out on something important while he was away? What loss? Surely he would have been informed of anything important concerning his family?
Hinata felt her anger deflate suddenly at the truly baffled look in her father's eyes. “You don't know do you? You don't know that my husband disappeared over five months ago. How is that possible?” she whispered. “They even held a memorial for him. Surely the Hokage would have contacted you about something so close to the family…. I don't understand why she didn't….”
“Well she didn't apparently,” Hyugga muttered in shock. Tsunade normally wasn't careless about something this important. Perhaps she thought it would halt the negotiations that he'd started and they'd lose the treaty if he returned. Perhaps the messenger had simply dropped off the map. He'd have to check into the matter immediately. He could have continued his mission, but at least been able to send messages to his daughter to learn of what had happened and what was being done. “What happened?” he asked softly.
“His team and the clients were all killed and Sasuke was captured. As far as Naruto can figure out, he was held in a cell for a month and then taken to an eastern port called Porttown in Earth Country. We think he's managed to escape his captors and is biding his time until winter passes in the mountains just east of here,” she explained, surprising him with the strength in her voice.
His daughter had apparently done some growing up while he'd been gone. She was speaking up for herself and even speaking against him. That was something she'd never dared to do. He smiled inwardly at the new fire he was seeing in her and silently thanked whoever was responsible. He half regretted that she wasn't his heir any longer if this was how well she was developing. “Anything else I've missed out on?”
“Yes,” she said flicking her eyes to the floor. “I really wasn't avoiding his bed. Sasuke was really quite…devoted to the task of creating an heir, as was I. It would seem that someone dumped contraceptive potions in our well. The Hokage dispelled the effects and I conceived shortly afterward.” She was blushing furiously at the admission.
Apparently they'd made up on the lost time with a vengeance, he thought in mild amusement. He rose and tugged her gently to her feet. “Hinata,” he said softly. “I'm proud of you for the heirs you are carrying and for your growth. I know I'm hard on you, but know I do it for you and for the clan. The clan is my life and I must do all I can to protect those in it.” He hugged her briefly and then pushed her out the door. “Keep me informed of your progress and of anything you might need.”
She blinked in surprise at the alien gentleness, and nodded, only mildly annoyed at the sudden dismissal. At least he hadn't accused her of adultery, like Naruto practically had that day at the hospital. She smiled to herself. Speaking of the loud blonde, she owed him several months of ramen for his hard work; might as well get started on that today.

It was dark except for the pale moonlight filtering through the curtains. He had told her that she looked so beautiful under the moonlight. He'd thought so from the first time he'd seen it flitting across her naked flesh. Pale skin became ethereal and white eyes glowing orbs of silver. On any other night, she was like a wood nymph under the moon, but when she was gasping and writhing under him she was a goddess; absolutely stunning in every way. His words had made her blush, but she secretly treasured them anyway.
“Hinata,” he gasped, his breath coming out in soft pants, “You're so beautiful it hurts,” he whispered, slowly thrusting into her slick, pliant flesh. “I can't get enough. It will never be enough.”
“Even if I can't bear your children?” she murmured softly, tugging on his shoulders to bring him down against her damp skin.
He knew she loved the sensation of her bare chest against his. Sinking against her and pulling her tight into his gently thrusting body, he smiled down at her. “It is important for me to have children, but not so important that I'd ever cast you aside. You're my life now Hinata. I will be pleased if you can bear my children, but if not, I will still cherish our marriage. I won't go to another. Besides there's a chance that I'll be the one at fault too,” he murmured gently.
Hinata smiled. She doubted anyone else ever saw this side of Sasuke. The only time he was this sweet and gentle was when they were making love. “Thank you. I feel the same way about you…I think.” It was the closest they'd ever come to admitting they were falling in love. Both were afraid to say it, even though they both knew what was happening.
Sasuke smirked softly and leaned in to kiss her. “Beautiful,” he murmured into her mouth. She kissed back, laughing softly at his sweet words. He took advantage and slipped his tongue out to tickle against hers, tasting her gently. He flexed his hips harder and increased the gentle pace he'd set to something a bit more demanding.
“You feel amazing,” he groaned into her mouth, shuddering with pleasure and excitement.
“So do you,” she whispered back, arching up to meet his hard body. “I've been waiting all day for this,” she admitted softly after a few moments of nothing but gasps and groans filling the room.
“I was trying to train hard today,” she gasped. Swallowing and closing her eyes, it took her a moment to speak again. Raw streaks of pleasure coursed through her with every move he made. “B-but…oh!” she squeaked as he sat up and stroked hard into her, hitting something inside just right. She licked her upper lip and then worried it a bit, with her teeth, as she murmured softly to him. “But all…all I could think about…was you sliding into me,” she finally gasped out.
He groaned and shuddered at her erotic confession. Hinata rarely admitted to anything of the sort. She was still one of the shyest people he knew. It was a wonder to watch her while she was in bed with him. She was almost a different person, yet the confession was still surprising. “T-try fighting Naruto with an erection sometime,” he grunted, grasping her hips and thrusting hard against her. “He's merciless in his teasing.”
“Ah fu…,” he groaned, his head falling back. He reached between them, gently finding the tiny swollen nub in her damp curls with his thumb. “Close, very close,” he gasped.
She sighed softly, mumbling incoherently and arching as his thumb gently teased her to any even higher peak. “Oh…Sasuke…your eyes…please.
Sasuke didn't even bother to ask what she meant. He'd done this to her dozens of times and the results were always mind blowing. Reaching down with his free hand, he jerked her up into his lap, none too gently.
She gasped in surprise, but didn't protest the rough treatment. Instead her heart fluttered at the slight loss of control in the stoic ninja. It was gratifying to be able to bring that out in him. Her heart began to pound in excitement as his eyes bled a deep red and began to lazily spin. This particular jutsu was a closely held Uchiha secret. Men were only supposed to learn it when they married. How Sasuke knew it was still a slight mystery, though it had something to do with his brother.
“Hinata…Hinata,” he whispered, drawing her deep into his web of ultimate pleasure, his body never ceasing in his movements. “Hinata,” he murmured as her chakra began to slowly shift and swirl….
“Hinata…Hinata…?”
Hinata blinked and looked up from her bowl of ramen. “Eh?” she murmured rather inelegantly.
“I just wanted to know if you wanted to share some gyoza with me,” Naruto said with a slightly amused smile. “Maybe you'd like to share your daydream instead?” he teased. “Your blushing you know.”
Her cheeks flared from the aroused flush to totally embarrassed red. Of all people to lose yourself in a fantasy around. Naruto's sense of smell was as good as Kiba's. “I'd rather not share…my thoughts, that is. Gyoza would be lovely though,” she murmured, desperately trying to recover her wits.
“Oh come on,” he said wiggling his eyebrows, and then signaling the old man that he did indeed want the order of food. “I won't tell and the old man will pretend he didn't hear at all.”
She swirled her chopsticks through the broth of her ramen and blushed. “Just thinking about the time Sasuke almost said he loved me. At least I think he was going to. I should have said it that night, maybe he would have said it too.”
Naruto gentled his leer and sighed. “I know he loves you. He talked about all of the things you did that were either cute or sexy every chance he got. Well that and I could tell he was distracted by thoughts of you half of the time during sparring,” Naruto said with a soft laugh. “He definitely had a bad case of `in love and lust with his wife'.”
She beamed at him and then sighed. “Naruto you should get married. You'd make a very nice husband to some lucky girl.” He really would too. Naruto was sweet and gentle, but would protect those he loved until his dying breath, which wouldn't come easy. She imagined he'd be a rather passionate partner as well, easily keeping his wife happy and exhausted. Sasuke had come home more than once, battered and wiped out, complaining that he didn't know where Naruto stored all of that energy.
“I don't know about that,” he snorted, startled by the pronouncement. “Besides the good ones are taken. You and Sakura are both hitched. Ten Ten and Neji are practically joined at the hip. Ino has that lazy bastard to take care of…. Well there really isn't any one else I know that well. Nah, I don't think marriage is for me…yet at least,” he said with a shrug.
“D-don't you get lonely?” she asked softly.
“Sometimes,” he admitted. At night especially, when he was sitting over a lonely cup of ramen in his quiet apartment. “It's okay though. Not getting married doesn't equal celibate you know,” he said with a chuckle, turning the serious conversation into a joke, as usual. He grunted painfully, but laughed harder when she socked him in the shoulder.
After a few minutes she looked up from her noodles again and sighed. “I wanted to marry you, you know,” she admitted softly. Where had that come from?
He choked on some broth and blinked over at her. “Seriously?” he asked in surprise. “When?”
“Since we were ten,” she said with a small blush. Funny how it was easy to admit the truth now that there was no chance, whatsoever, of it leading anywhere. Way to grow a backbone, she thought ruefully.
“B-but what about Sasuke?” he asked carefully. He was pretty sure that when Sasuke had quietly requested that he take care of Hinata, should he ever die on a mission, that didn't include marriage or anything entailed therein. How had he not known about this?
She laughed and shook her head. “No silly, not anymore. I was even given the small option of marrying you instead of him. Sasuke suggested it actually. He thought you'd make a better husband than he would.” She sighed and shrugged. “I thought about it for a moment and then decided you were meant for something else. Maybe you'll be the next Hokage or maybe you'll be something even greater than that. All I know is that I would have slowed you down. I suppose any wife would do that right now though. You're too sweet. You'd give up everything for your family I think.”
Naruto blinked for a moment more and then laughed softly. “Well how about that?” He sobered slowly and thought quietly for a moment. “Hinata, if I can't ever find him, or if I do and he's gone, I'd take care of you. You know that right?” he asked hesitantly. “Don't take this the wrong way or anything…I don't secretly lust after my best friend's wife, but if he doesn't come back, I'd gladly help you raise his children. I mean I wouldn't be a father to them or anything. Maybe an uncle or big brother sort of thing….”
She blinked, tears prickling at his gentle promise. Startling him slightly, she launched herself at him and hugged him fiercely. “Naruto, you are the sweetest, most self sacrificing man I know,” she whispered, tears in her voice. “Thank you for being you.”
He smiled gently and wrapped her in a strong, warm embrace. She was tiny compared to him and he liked the feeling that coursed through him at the contact. She made him feel needed, like protecting her with every ounce of energy he had. It was a sensation that was entirely too dangerous to have concerning your best friend's wife.
Gently he pushed her away, shoving down the alarm building inside, as the old man brought their order out. She hadn't seemed to notice any change and happily attacked the steaming dumplings. She really was beautiful and managed to look graceful, even with gyoza sauce dripping down her chin. Plus her killer body didn't help matters at all. Before she'd gotten pregnant she'd been wonderfully slim and curvy in all the right places, something he'd noticed but never really thought about much until now. And now she was curvy in an even more alarming manner. She had the whole earth goddess, bringer of life sort of figure now, that he couldn't help but feel a little twinge of interest over. He was sure that there was something wrong with him if the sight of sweet, pregnant Hinata, biting into a pork dumpling, was sending his blood rushing to places it had no business going.
So maybe he was lusting, just a little bit, after his best friend's wife. On the other hand he'd only just gotten home and hadn't had a `companion' in two months. The Kyuubi's complaints about not mating were really only valid in the respect that Naruto hadn't actually reproduced yet. He'd been rather active up until Sasuke disappeared. Deciding the reaction to Hinata was purely physical, he promised to take care of it that night, with someone discrete…and energetic, and that would be that.
He laughed softly and selected a dumpling for himself. “You'll turn my head with such pretty praises, Hinata,” he teased. Her smile was so bright and warm his brain nearly melted under its glow.
He definitely didn't want Hinata.
He needed to find her husband…soon.
