A Hayate/Yugao Oneshot
"Dying Day"

Yugao walked into her home, feeling more tired than normally tired. She also felt like not bothering to feed herself and go to bed right after a shower. She walked to her bathroom and began to undress slowly. She turned on the shower and stepped in. Suddenly, all she could think about was Hayate. She smiled at her foolishness. Why was she being so obsessive lately? First of all, Hayate was her boyfriend, meaning he wasn't going to go anywhere. Second, she knew he loved her, too; he would never leave her. And lastly, he was at his apartment, getting rest. So, why was she worried? Or was it that she was anxious? She shrugged; whatever it was had to leave her alone. She needed some peace of mind.
After her shower, she dressed in the bathroom. And as she opened the door, a delicious smell hit her. She frowned, knowing someone was in her home uninvited. She walked towards the kitchen and saw Hayate eating ramen at her table. She arched an eyebrow, "what are you doing?"
He glanced at her and smiled, "I figured you would want something to eat tonight. I know that you've been coming home and going to bed without dinner."
She blushed, "and how, pray tell, do you know such a thing?"
He looked away, "I don't know...maybe it's the effect of feeling such a slinder body against my own." He coughed, "then again, you don't have to eat with me if you don't want to."
She finally smiled, sitting down beside him. "You look awful, baby," she told him as she pulled her bowl closer.
He frowned, "I know."
"You should go to the doctor again," she said before taking in the chilled soup.
"I should since I have no more part in the Chunin Exams," he said quietly. He looked at her with a grin, "still, I'm glad you want me to go."
She swallowed her food and gazed at him, "why is that?"
"It let's me know you care for me," he chuckled.
"Of course I care about you, Yate," she giggled.
He watched her yawn, "could I stay here tonight?"
She smirked, "you want to? Really?"
He nodded, "yes."
She stood and took his hand, "okay, only if you cuddle with me."
He smiled in amusement, "a jounin cuddling an ANBU member."
She giggled, leading him to her bedroom. "Funny, isn't it?"
"I think it's sweet," he answered, taking off his ninja vest. He set it aside an took off his sandals.
Yugao got under the cool sheets and curled up on her side, "cold..." She pouted, "why is the bed so cold when you first get into it?"
Hayate laid down with her and draped his arm over her waist. She grinned out of comfort and glee. He pulled her close, "because everything is cold without you. As you know, the bed warms up after you're in it."
She turned around to look at him, "okay, Mr. Romanticisim, answer me another question."
He smiled, "okay."
She kissed his cheek, "why do we go together? Why does our relationship work out?"
He rubbed his cheek against her forehead, "because you don't get annoyed at my being sick, and I love strong women."
"I love you so much," she said quietly. She felt so safe in his arms even if he was weaker than she at the time.
"I love you, too, Yugao," he murmured. He coughed again, turning his head away from her. "You make me feel so happy."
She shut her eyes and smiled. But her head wouldn't leave his discomfort alone. Why was he so ill?

"Hayate, you're fever is back," Yugao said, shaking him.
He awoke, sitting up. It was moring; judging by the light pouring from the window, it was maybe ten. He must have been really sick not to wake up sooner. He felt of his own head; he was warm. "I don't feel so great, either," he said quietly.
She handed him a pill, "that's okay. I called in and told Hokage-sama that I was going to stay home and take care of you."
He smiled at her pretentious attitude. "Thank you," he mumbled.
She kissed his cheek, "I'll be back with your breakfast. "
He laid back down and noticed a picture of the two of them kissing. It was on her side table. He frowned, "who took that? Where were we?"
She came back a couple of minutes later with oatmeal. She sat on the bed by him and grinned, "want I should feed you?"
He chuckled which turned into a cough. He struggled to gain control, and all his lover could do was watch. He finally stopped and sat up with a frown.
Yugao fed him slowly with a big smile. He ate, thankful that she was there for him.

After half a day of sleeping, Hayate got out of bed to find Yugao cleaning. She never really cleaned since she was an ANBU member. She really never had the time. But now, with a day off, she decided to tidy up.
So, there she was, busy scrubbing the spots off of the carpet. Hayate smiled, sitting on the couch. "What are you doing, love?" he asked fondly.
She blushed, glancing at him. "I...uh-" she studdered.
He grinned, "I feel better now."
She stood, "good. I'm glad."
"I'm sorry for taking your day," he said.
She shook her head, "no, I love taking care of you."
He smiled, "really?"
She pushed him to lay and straddled him. She kissed him gently, not caring if he was contagious. She let go and gazed at him, "I love you, Gekko Hayate."
He frowned slightly, "you used my last name, too? What are you thinking?"
"Marry me," she breathed.
He chuckled, "marry?"
She giggled, "yeah, marry me."
He stared at her for a few seconds, thinking it over. "Okay," he whispered.
Her lips met his again, "that way, you'll never have to ask to spend the night and I won't have to answer with a yes everytime. "
He brushed her violet hair with his fingers, "good, because that's getting old."
She giggled and kissed him again.

"Come on," Yugao whined again. "Stay."
He shook his head, putting on his sword. "I have to go home tonight. I have to get up early tomorrow."
She smiled wryly, "okay. I' ll see you tomorrow." He kissed her gently and waved goodbye. She waved back to him, "bye, Hayate. Love you."
"Love you, too," he said, walking away.

THE NEXT MORNING...
Her mask was emotionless like a good shinobi should, but under it was a different story. There were tears leaking from her eyes, and she was using all of her strength not to break out into sobbing. She stood firmly, holding the weapon in her hands. And there he lay, chopped and bloody. His eyes were hollow, and his body cold, stiff. He was no longer of the living.
Yugao kept telling herself that he was dead, he was dead, but her heart screamed in pain saying, "NO! He's still in there! Wake him up!" The tears leaked from her mask and created little streaks down her neck.
Hayate...her Hayate was gone. "At least he won't suffer from being sick all the time," she thought. "He's in a better place; I just wish I could accept it." Her team stared at her closely as she gripped the sword until it cut into her hands. Another thing that ran through her mind was, "he...was suppose to marry me."
Yet, all she could speak was, "oh Hayate, what in the world happened to you?"

The End...

Like I said before, I hope I didn't mess it up. I just had a spark fly, so I wrote it down. hee hee.
