Chapter Three
The sky was a deep inky blue, studded with small glints of silver and crystal.
The largest crystal shone brightly, the silver light cast from its crescent shape laying a soft glow over that which lay beneath it.
“Naruto! Don't stay up too late! Okay sweetie?” Blinking, azure eyes turned from the slender shape of the moon and settled upon a door. The handsome face the eyes graced smiled slightly and nodded.
“Don't worry Mom, I won't!” Naruto called back before running a hand through his sandy blonde hair. “I won't…” He muttered again as the sounds of his mothers footsteps retreating down the hall reached his ears.
Sighing softly, Naruto glanced over at his alarm clock and smiled lopsidedly, absently wondering what `late' was to his mother, being as it was already eleven-thirty.
Peeling his t-shirt over his head and tossing it off onto a random pile of clothing, the blonde yawned and scratched at his chest, smacking his lips as he resumed staring out the window.
“They said the moon was unreachable too…” He mumbled, looking down at the open notebook sitting on his cluttered desk, his fingers pausing in their scratching.
“But… we got there… Didn't we?” He asked himself, tracing his other hand over the pages of his notebook, briefly resting his fingers on the pen before he heaved a great sigh and threw his arms into the air, stepped to the side and fell back onto his bed, bouncing slightly as he hit it.
“I mean… We didn't know anything about the moon either… And we still got there! So… My chances are pretty good too, aren't they?” Wrinkling his nose in thought, Naruto frowned.
“But… Maybe Kiba's right… I don't even know the guy… Maybe I am no better than some prepubescent girl claiming she's in love with Rick, that guy from that boy-band… Up-Street Men…” Frowning again, Naruto rolled onto his stomach and grabbed one of his large, fluffy pillows.
He sighed and looked at the remaining five and tilted his head to the side.
“It's like Kiba said, I know nothing about him other than the fact he sings and that his name is Sasuke...” Groaning, Naruto rolled over onto his back and stared at the ceiling again, clutching his pillow on his chest.
“I have Sakura~ or rather, I would. I mean she's finally started to notice I exist, so that has to be something good… I shouldn't give up on her for some guy… Some… Really hot guy… But… ARGH!” Naruto tossed his pillow away onto the floor somewhere and flung his arm over his eyes and sighed.
“Naruto…? Sweetie? Are you all right?” At the sound of his mother's voice coming through the door, Naruto turned his head and looked in its general direction.
“Yeah mom, I'm fine…” He replied.
“Are you sure? Is there something you wanna talk about?” She asked, her voice sounding concerned.
“Nah, I'm good!” Naruto called back, chuckling quietly.
“Okay… You just let me know if there's something you wanna talk about, okay Kitten?” Came her voice again before the sound of her retreating steps graced Naruto's ears.
“Yeah… right…” To Naruto, the idea of discussing anything with his mother was laughable. By right's, the woman was amazing and he didn't think so simply because she was his mother. However… He had a feeling this conversation wouldn't turn out the same way his grade two bully issues had, or the way his winter of grade seven tongue stuck to the basketball net pole problem had ended (he still blamed that incident on Shikamaru). And of course there was the puberty issue of grade eight, that one she'd needed back up on and had dragged his father to the room for that discussion.
No, he was pretty sure his mother couldn't handle this situation. But then again… She had handled his brief month of gothliness pretty well back in ninth grade; she was all supportive with his decision and bought him more black nail polish and lipstick than he'd ever use in a lifetime. His father preferred the more casual approach of `let him do what he wants and he'll be fine. I'll step in if he starts smoking, doing drugs or drinking.'
So… Maybe they'd be able to handle this…
Naruto briefly entertained himself with the image of how that would go.
“Mom, dad. I love you, you know that.”
“Yes of course we know Kitten.”
“What do you want Naruto?”
“Well… I'm gay.”
“Oh! Um… That's wonderful sweetie!”
“Er… If… That's what you want son…”
“Oh Arashi! We'll have to find him a nice boy!”
“Mom, I already have one. And he's the lead singer for Ecstasy! An Evanincense style band.”
“…Do you want me to go buy you some more black lipstick and nail polish?”
“Er… No mom… I have plenty…”
Naruto snorted and shook his head, curling onto his side.
“Sometimes, my parents are so supportive… It's creepy.” He muttered with a snicker before sighing quietly and closing his eyes.
“What… Am I going to do… About you… Sasuke… I can't get you out of my head…”
~~~~~
“Naruto… Naruto…” The muscled blonde smiled dreamily as the slender hand caressed the side of his face; charcoal eyes glinting at him from underneath a dark curtain of long and thick eyelashes. “Naruto…” A small, seductive smile graced pouty pink lips.
“Naruto…” The lips parted and whispered gently. Naruto raised a hand and gently rested it on the hand caressing his own face.
“Sasuke…” He murmured and the smile on the porcelain face grew sweeter.
“Naruto…” Sasuke whispered, drawing close and breathing warm air on Naruto's face. Slowly Naruto opened his eyes and gazed adoringly into the charcoal ones.
“Sasuke…” He whispered again, cradling the slender brunets face in his hands. Sasuke smiled gently at him and licked his nose.
“You have to wake up now.” Sasuke said, giving his nose another lick.
“…Sasuke…?” Naruto blinked, his face twisting in confusion. He was awake… Wasn't he? Sasuke merely answered with another lick to his nose, then to his cheek, his chin and just his whole face in general, repeatedly.
“Come on Blondie! It's time to wake up! Up! Up! Wake up!”
“Come on Naruto! Get up!”
Groggily, Naruto's eyes fluttered open and he stared at the ceiling for a second; vaguely registering a weight on his chest and a warm, wet tongue scraping up his cheek.
“What… The hell…?” He muttered, squinting blearily at the ceiling. His answer was loud, cheery yip from the weight on his chest and a cold nose promptly shoved in his right eye.
“GAH! Aka~ PAH!” Lifting the happy puppy off his chest and holding him in the air at an arms length away, Naruto turned his head to the side and started spitting, his eye slammed closed.
“Dammit Kiba! Why's your dog on me!?” Kiba, who was standing in the middle of the room, laughed at him.
“He missed you Uzumaki! He wanted to come see you!” The messy haired brunet replied still laughing.
Naruto sat up and set the puppy down on the floor, wiping his face off, the feeling of the puppy tongue still on it.
“Okay… So why are you here…?” The blonde asked moodily, glowering at Kiba.
“Karen let me in.” Kiba replied smugly. Naruto rolled his eyes.
“Okay, so my mom let you in. That still doesn't explain why you're here.” Naruto retorted, wiping his cheek off again.
“Well… Since you've been waking me up with the phone… I thought I'd come and wake you up for a change. So we could get a head start. I was just gonna shake you awake but Akamaru took one look at you, jumped on the bed and started molesting your face. Sorry man.” Kiba grinned and snickered again, looking down at the puppy now happily seated on Naruto's foot.
Naruto blinked and tilted his head at his friend.
“Head~start…? Head start on what?” He asked curiously, scratching at a spot on his chest and yawning widely.
“Well…” Kiba began; absently kicking an empty pop can with his toe. “A head start on coming up with a harebrained, lame ass scheme that always somehow manages to defy all laws of physics and the time and space continuum by working on how to meet Sasuke. Unless you've given up on him now and want to go back to Sakura, cause that'd be cool too.”
Naruto stared at Kiba for a second before snorting and grinning. He stood and stretched, groaning full heartedly.
“Give up on him nah!” He replied, lightly booting Akamaru off his foot so he could walk over to the nearest pile of folded clothing.
“You know Uzumaki… You are the messiest gay man I have ever met…” Kiba commented as he lifted an eyebrow at open bag of skuttles sitting on a pile of what appeared to be socks, pants and quite possibly that ancient history project from last year that he'd lost.
“Pfft… just goes to show, we come in all shapes, sizes and sorts!” Naruto replied with a grin as he shook out a yellow t-shirt and pulled it over his head. He glanced down at the faded jeans he still wore and shrugged before stepping into his sneakers.
“Okay I'm ready, let's go.”
Kiba stared at him before snickering and heading for the door.
“Rescue Akamaru before your room eats him.” He stated jabbing his finger over at the puppy who certainly looked like he was being eaten; his rapidly wagging tail the only thing sticking out from underneath a blue sweater.
“Come on there Akamaru!” Naruto chirped, bending over and picking the puppy up. Akamaru yipped and licked Naruto's chin as they headed up the hall and for the stairs.
“Besides, Kiba, I'm not… Gay… Not really… I just happen to like one guy.” He whispered to Kiba as they went down the stairs.
The messy haired brunet's eyebrow flew up and he grinning, giving his head a shake.
Naruto grinned back and stuck his head into the living room.
“I'll be home later!” He cheerfully told his parents.
~~~~
“So… You got any ideas yet…?”
Naruto glanced over at his friend and sighed, tossing a stick for Akamaru.
“Nope… Do you?” The blonde asked, his eyes watching Akamaru as the puppy bounded into a bush.
“Nuh uh.” Kiba replied, shaking his head. “Not a one.”
Naruto sighed and scratched Akamaru's ears as the puppy leapt back onto his lap with the stick.
“You got any ideas Akamaru?” The blonde asked the puppy, holding its face in his hands. Akamaru yipped and licked Naruto's nose. Kiba smirked and shook his head.
“Well Uzumaki, what do we know about this super star of yours?” The brunet said, stretching his arms into the air and dropping down onto the grass beside Naruto, laying back, his arms resting on his stomach.
“Well…” Naruto began, lying back with his hands behind his head, Akamaru lying on his stomach and chewing on the stick.
“We know he sings damn well… That his name is Sasuke… And that a band member is Hinata's cousin…” Frowning, Naruto trailed off and blinked at the slightly cloudy. But still bright sky.
“Yeah… That sounds about right. So… Now we gotta figure out what we ca~OOF!” Kiba wheezed and sat up as he suddenly had Akamaru dropped onto his chest.
“Naruto? What the hell!?” He coughed at the suddenly standing blonde man, feeling winded.
“I have a plan!” Naruto announced, looking over his shoulder and grinning down at Kiba.
“And if I pull my strings right~ It'll work out for you too! Stay here!” Naruto ordered with a rather bright grin on his face as he spun on his heel and dashed out of the park and headed up his street.
Kiba blinked and stared after him, a somewhat surprised and confused look on his face. He blinked again and looked down at the panting Akamaru sitting in his lap.
After a moment, the messy haired brunet rolled his eyes, smiled and shook his head, falling back on the ground.
“Oh Uzumaki…” He chuckled. “You know whatever you have planned isn't gonna work… Not even you can be that lucky!”
~~~~
“So you see Hinata? He's so pathetic!” Naruto chuckled and grinned at the pretty dark haired girl.
Hinata giggled at him.
“Don't say that Naruto, I think it's sweet!' She replied, smiling at the blonde seated on her desk chair.
“Oh, but it is pathetic! See, he's liked you since… Forever! But he gets cold feet every time he talks to you! But he's great, he really is! I know you'd like him if you got the chance to talk to him.” Naruto told her, smiling lopsidedly.
The blonde sat on her desk chair back wards. He straddled it, his arms folded along the top.
“I don't know…” Hinata began, standing and wringing her hands, a gentle blush dusting her face.
“I assure you Hinata… It'd be worth your while. He's a really sweet guy and he practically worships the ground you walk on.” Naruto stated, nodding assuredly as he stood. Hinata looked at him, a curious smile on her face.
“Kiba? Really?” She asked, her head tilting to the side. Naruto nodded again, a bright grin gracing his tanned face.
“Really.” He answered. Hinata smiled up at him and nodded as well.
“Okay!” She nodded again, her eyes glittering.
“That's great!” Naruto replied, pulling her into a hug. “I'll set you guys up!”
Hinata giggled and smiled at the blonde returning the hug warmly, her blush turning a but pinker, but for once, she wasn't at all embarrassed.
“Thank you Naruto.” She said sweetly as the blonde released her. Naruto grinned and winked at her.
“Ah, ah!” He said waving his finger in the air, a mischievous smile on his face, his blue eyes sparkling. “I~ Am a wonderful, guy but~” He smirked at her and Hinata giggled again.
“What did you want Naruto?” She asked, tilting her head to the side. Hinata was a very smart girl. She could tell that Naruto was trying to let her down easily by setting her up with his best friend, and for that she was grateful, most guys would never do such a thing. They would either avoid her or ignore her feelings. But Naruto was subtly telling her that he wasn't interested in her like that but he still wanted to be her friend. He was such a nice guy; which was part of the reason she liked him.
“Well…” Naruto gave another lopsided smile and scratched the back of his head, chuckling a little nervously.
Hinata blinked and looked at him curiously.
“What is it Naruto?” She asked. She could tell there was something else Naruto wanted, he had asked if he could do a couple favours for him when she'd first let him in.
“I swear I'll make it to you Hinata.” The blonde stated fervently, looking at her a little desperately. “But… You know your cousin? I think Kiba said his name was Neji?” He asked, looking slightly worried.
Hinata nodded, growing a little more confused.
“Yes… That his name. What about him?” She asked, noting how nervous Naruto suddenly seemed.
“I… Well… I don't suppose you'd be able to… Somehow get him and his friend… Sasuke… Back down here… Do you?” He asked carefully, looking a little sheepish at her.
Hinata blinked.
“Hm? I… Suppose I could. I don't know about Sasuke, but I could probably get Neji back. Why?” She finished curiously, wondering why Naruto wanted to know them.
“You remember the other day… When I asked if you had a brother?” The blonde waited for Hinata's nod before continuing. “The guy I was asking about, was Neji. See, Kiba and I saw his band, Ecstasy playing at the Absolute and… Um…” Naruto blushed a little and rubbed the back of his neck. “I… think I've got a bit of a… Crush on Sasuke…” He finished looking at Hinata sheepishly.
Hinata stared at him Naruto for a long minute without saying anything. The blonde squirmed a little under her stare and looked down at his toes. Finally, Hinata nodded and smiled gently if, a little sadly.
“I'll try.” She said gently. “I'll call Neji later, okay?” She finished, gently touching the blonde's bicep to draw his gaze back to her. Naruto looked at her before his face split into a bright grin.
He pulled Hinata into his arms and hugged her tightly, planting a smacking kiss on her cheek.
“I will buy you the biggest ice cream cone The Sprinkle can make!” He told her, Hinata giggled again and nodded.
“Kay.”
~~~~~
Naruto rolled his eyes and stared at the phone in his hand with an expression that quite clearly said that he hoped he did not hear what the person on the other end just said.
“Kiba, you're going dancing at the Absolute, not the debutant ball!” he stated blandly, sitting up on his bed and looking around his room. “You do not need to wear a tie… No, no buts~ No ah! Ah! Nope! Kiba! It's just Hinata! She already knows who you are!” The blonde sighed exasperatedly and shook his head, smirking a bit into the phone.
“When are you guys going anyway? In an hour? Cool. Have fun! Don't stay out too late!” Chuckling Naruto nodded. “Yeah, her dad would kill you. Well, I'll leave you to your shower! She should be calling me shortly. Good luck!” Naruto pulled the phone away from his ear and pressed the button, hanging it up.
Sighing the blonde flopped back on his bed and stared up at the ceiling, his mind reeling with various thoughts on what could possibly happen during the phone call he was so desperately waiting for.
“Hmm…” He blinked, his blue eyes focusing on a spot on the ceiling, his ears zoning in on the ticking of his alarm clock that was… Somewhere… In his room. More than likely next to the skuttles.
Skuttles… The `not a brand name' answer to candy that let's you taste the rainbow. Rolling his eyes, Naruto grinned up at the ceiling. He always wondered what his mother had against brand names; she wouldn't buy a single brand name thing.
He'd always thought it had to do with money issues or something, until he'd taken a good look around the house and noted that not a single thing carried a major brand name.
The only things that did were the things he bought himself.
Which reminded him that he~
The blonde bolted up right and stared at the ringing phone in his hands. He stared at it for a solid ten seconds before pressing the button and bringing the phone to his ear.
“Hello?” he said carefully into the receiver. “Hinata!” Naruto exclaimed pitching forward and nearly falling off his bed. “You did? And~” The blondes eyes glittered with anticipation as he listened to the girls voice. “Neji said he'll come back out tomorrow?” Swallowing, Naruto lifted his other hand and chewed on his thumbnail; his eyes wide.
“And… He is!? He's gonna bring Sasuke!!? WHOO HOO!” Naruto yelled. Flinging his arms into the air and falling back wards, laying back on his bed with a bright grin.
“Yes!” He said excitedly, drawing the phone back to his ear where a giggling Hinata greeted him. “Hm?” He blinked and tilted his head. “You did? What did Neji say?” The blonde smirked and chuckled quietly. “He wished me luck eh? Heh… I guess I'll need it won't I… Eh? Tomorrow… At noon? Yeah, I'll be there.” Nodding, Naruto glanced over at the digital clock on his desk (it was the replacement for the ticking alarm clock that his room had swallowed). “Thanks a bunch Hinata! Yeah. You have fun with Kiba all right? Heh… Yeah. Thanks again, have fun!”
Hitting the button, Naruto let his arm flop back and he stared up at ceiling, his mouth open and a somewhat dazed look on his face.
“Tomorrow… Tomorrow is the day...” Swallowing, Naruto grinned. “Tomorrow, I'll figure out this crush…” He nodded and sat up, setting the phone on the desk before flopping back over amongst his pillows, curled on his side.
“Tomorrow… Sasuke… Tomorrow…” he sighed and closed his eyes, a content smile on his lips. “I'd better get a good night's sleep…” He murmured, not caring that it was only seven thirty.
~~~~~
“Neji, you wanna tell me why the hell we're going out there… Again?!” The pale, slim brunet demanded as he pulled the car door closed and settled into the passenger seat of the long haired man's pristine white car.
“Microwave this time.” The Hyuuga answered simply as he backed out of the short drive way of the green two story house.
The slim brunet rolled his eyes and gave his friend a dry look.
“And you wanted company for the drive.” He said sarcastically. Neji glanced at him and nodded.
“Yeah, I did. You got a problem with that Uchiha?” he asked, smirking.
“I just don't see why it's always gotta be me” Sasuke muttered, glaring moodily at the cereal bar he held, before he tore the wrapped off and took a bite.
“And I don't understand why you're a vegetarian, but you don't see me complaining do you?” Neji replied, giving his head a light toss. Sasuke rolled his eyes.
“It's called my mother's animal activist ways and my own watching my weight decision.” Sasuke replied, taking another bite of his bar. Neji snorted.
“Watching your weight? Sasuke, you're tiny! Getting fat should be something you want!” Neji stated glancing at his friend. “You make sticks jealous!”
Sasuke rolled his eyes and lightly punched Neji's arm.
“I'm not that small!” he retorted. “Let's just say that because of my mother, eating something that at one point could make noise, run around and reproduce kinda freaks me out.” The pale young man explained, his dark eyes flicking over to Neji. “She's drilled that into me since I was old enough to chew, remember? It's not my fault.” He finished, shrugging.
“Yeah I know.” Neji replied, lifting an arm and settling his elbow on the door edge, his index finger resting on his lower lip.
“Anyway… Wake me when we get there, I'm having a nap.” Sasuke informed Neji, crunching up his bar wrapper in his hand and shifting slightly, getting a little more comfortable in his seat.
“Sure.” Neji replied, glancing over at Sasuke, his mind wandering to his conversation with Hinata last night. He frowned and moved his hand from his face and settled it on the steering wheel, his forehead furrowed in thought.
~~~~
The pretty young brunette shook her head and giggled slightly at the tall blonde seated next to her on the sofa. He'd shuffled the playing cards three times now and was beginning to do so again.
“Naruto!” She said suddenly, lifting a hand and giggling again as Naruto gave her a startled look and the cards flew from his hands.
“GAH! Oh… Heh… Sorry.” Naruto grinned sheepishly at his friend before he set about picking the cards up again.
“It's all right.” Hinata replied, helping him to pick up the cards. “But Naruto… You need to relax.” She told him gently, handing him the cards she'd collected.
“Yeah… I know.” Naruto sighed and glanced the living room window again. “Sorry.” He apologized again, starting to shuffled the cards once more before catching himself and chuckling.
“How'd your night with Kiba go?” He asked, wanting to change the subject.
“Oh, it went quite well!” Hinata replied, nodding. “Kiba really is a sweet guy.” She said, smiling. “Thank you for setting that up for us Naruto.” Hinata dipped her head slightly, blushing a little bit. Naruto grinned and shook his head.
“Nah, I should be thanking you!” he replied. “You gonna go out again?” He asked, the cards still held in his hands.
“Mmhmm!” Hinata nodded. “Yes, we're going to go to the absolute again on Saturday.” She replied. Naruto beamed at her.
“That's great!” He laughed, happy for his friends. Hinata began to reply before she glanced over, hearing the door bell. “Oh that'll be them. I'll be right back okay?” She smiled and patted Naruto's knee reassuringly before rising and smoothing out the folds of her light pink summer dress and heading out of the living room.
Naruto swallowed and absently started shuffling the cards again, his mouth suddenly dry and his palms sweaty.
“Come on Naruto… Relax…” He ordered himself between grit teeth.
But when he heard the front door open and Hinata's cheery greeting of `Hey guys!' He lost it. His hands slipped and the cards went flying everywhere. They fell about him like a strange kind of snow, decorating the sofa and the floor.
“Damn it…” He cursed, trying to catch them as they fell about his head. He lunged forward and ended up flat on his face on the floor. Mentally he cursed.
“Ahem…” Hearing Hinata's quiet cough from the doorway, he cursed more profusely in his head and slowly lifted his head and looked at the doorway.
“Hello… Naruto? Was it?”

“You know Uzumaki… You are the messiest gay man I have ever met…” Kiba commented as he lifted an eyebrow at open bag of skuttles sitting on a pile of what appeared to be socks, pants and quite possibly that ancient history project from last year that he'd lost.
“Pfft… just goes to show, we come in all shapes, sizes and sorts!” Naruto replied with a grin as he shook out a yellow t-shirt and pulled it over his head. He glanced down at the faded jeans he still wore and shrugged before stepping into his sneakers.
“Okay I'm ready, let's go.”
Kiba stared at him before snickering and heading for the door.
“Rescue Akamaru before your room eats him.” He stated jabbing his finger over at the puppy who certainly looked like he was being eaten; his rapidly wagging tail the only thing sticking out from underneath a blue sweater.
“Come on there Akamaru!” Naruto chirped, bending over and picking the puppy up. Akamaru yipped and licked Naruto's chin as they headed up the hall and for the stairs.
“Besides, Kiba, I'm not… Gay… Not really… I just happen to like one guy.” He whispered to Kiba as they went down the stairs.
The messy haired brunet's eyebrow flew up and he grinning, giving his head a shake.
Naruto grinned back and stuck his head into the living room.
“I'll be home later!” He cheerfully told his parents.
~~~~
“So… You got any ideas yet…?”
Naruto glanced over at his friend and sighed, tossing a stick for Akamaru.
“Nope… Do you?” The blonde asked, his eyes watching Akamaru as the puppy bounded into a bush.
“Nuh uh.” Kiba replied, shaking his head. “Not a one.”
Naruto sighed and scratched Akamaru's ears as the puppy leapt back onto his lap with the stick.
“You got any ideas Akamaru?” The blonde asked the puppy, holding its face in his hands. Akamaru yipped and licked Naruto's nose. Kiba smirked and shook his head.
“Well Uzumaki, what do we know about this super star of yours?” The brunet said, stretching his arms into the air and dropping down onto the grass beside Naruto, laying back, his arms resting on his stomach.
“Well…” Naruto began, lying back with his hands behind his head, Akamaru lying on his stomach and chewing on the stick.
“We know he sings damn well… That his name is Sasuke… And that a band member is Hinata's cousin…” Frowning, Naruto trailed off and blinked at the slightly cloudy. But still bright sky.
“Yeah… That sounds about right. So… Now we gotta figure out what we ca~OOF!” Kiba wheezed and sat up as he suddenly had Akamaru dropped onto his chest.
“Naruto? What the hell!?” He coughed at the suddenly standing blonde man, feeling winded.
“I have a plan!” Naruto announced, looking over his shoulder and grinning down at Kiba.
“And if I pull my strings right~ It'll work out for you too! Stay here!” Naruto ordered with a rather bright grin on his face as he spun on his heel and dashed out of the park and headed up his street.
Kiba blinked and stared after him, a somewhat surprised and confused look on his face. He blinked again and looked down at the panting Akamaru sitting in his lap.
After a moment, the messy haired brunet rolled his eyes, smiled and shook his head, falling back on the ground.
“Oh Uzumaki…” He chuckled. “You know whatever you have planned isn't gonna work… Not even you can be that lucky!”
~~~~
“So you see Hinata? He's so pathetic!” Naruto chuckled and grinned at the pretty dark haired girl.
Hinata giggled at him.
“Don't say that Naruto, I think it's sweet!' She replied, smiling at the blonde seated on her desk chair.
“Oh, but it is pathetic! See, he's liked you since… Forever! But he gets cold feet every time he talks to you! But he's great, he really is! I know you'd like him if you got the chance to talk to him.” Naruto told her, smiling lopsidedly.
The blonde sat on her desk chair back wards. He straddled it, his arms folded along the top.
“I don't know…” Hinata began, standing and wringing her hands, a gentle blush dusting her face.
“I assure you Hinata… It'd be worth your while. He's a really sweet guy and he practically worships the ground you walk on.” Naruto stated, nodding assuredly as he stood. Hinata looked at him, a curious smile on her face.
“Kiba? Really?” She asked, her head tilting to the side. Naruto nodded again, a bright grin gracing his tanned face.
“Really.” He answered. Hinata smiled up at him and nodded as well.
“Okay!” She nodded again, her eyes glittering.
“That's great!” Naruto replied, pulling her into a hug. “I'll set you guys up!”
Hinata giggled and smiled at the blonde returning the hug warmly, her blush turning a but pinker, but for once, she wasn't at all embarrassed.
“Thank you Naruto.” She said sweetly as the blonde released her. Naruto grinned and winked at her.
“Ah, ah!” He said waving his finger in the air, a mischievous smile on his face, his blue eyes sparkling. “I~ Am a wonderful, guy but~” He smirked at her and Hinata giggled again.
“What did you want Naruto?” She asked, tilting her head to the side. Hinata was a very smart girl. She could tell that Naruto was trying to let her down easily by setting her up with his best friend, and for that she was grateful, most guys would never do such a thing. They would either avoid her or ignore her feelings. But Naruto was subtly telling her that he wasn't interested in her like that but he still wanted to be her friend. He was such a nice guy; which was part of the reason she liked him.
“Well…” Naruto gave another lopsided smile and scratched the back of his head, chuckling a little nervously.
Hinata blinked and looked at him curiously.
“What is it Naruto?” She asked. She could tell there was something else Naruto wanted, he had asked if he could do a couple favours for him when she'd first let him in.
“I swear I'll make it to you Hinata.” The blonde stated fervently, looking at her a little desperately. “But… You know your cousin? I think Kiba said his name was Neji?” He asked, looking slightly worried.
Hinata nodded, growing a little more confused.
“Yes… That his name. What about him?” She asked, noting how nervous Naruto suddenly seemed.
“I… Well… I don't suppose you'd be able to… Somehow get him and his friend… Sasuke… Back down here… Do you?” He asked carefully, looking a little sheepish at her.
Hinata blinked.
“Hm? I… Suppose I could. I don't know about Sasuke, but I could probably get Neji back. Why?” She finished curiously, wondering why Naruto wanted to know them.
“You remember the other day… When I asked if you had a brother?” The blonde waited for Hinata's nod before continuing. “The guy I was asking about, was Neji. See, Kiba and I saw his band, Ecstasy playing at the Absolute and… Um…” Naruto blushed a little and rubbed the back of his neck. “I… think I've got a bit of a… Crush on Sasuke…” He finished looking at Hinata sheepishly.
Hinata stared at him Naruto for a long minute without saying anything. The blonde squirmed a little under her stare and looked down at his toes. Finally, Hinata nodded and smiled gently if, a little sadly.
“I'll try.” She said gently. “I'll call Neji later, okay?” She finished, gently touching the blonde's bicep to draw his gaze back to her. Naruto looked at her before his face split into a bright grin.
He pulled Hinata into his arms and hugged her tightly, planting a smacking kiss on her cheek.
“I will buy you the biggest ice cream cone The Sprinkle can make!” He told her, Hinata giggled again and nodded.
“Kay.”

~~~~~
“Neji, you wanna tell me why the hell we're going out there… Again?!” The pale, slim brunet demanded as he pulled the car door closed and settled into the passenger seat of the long haired man's pristine white car.
“Microwave this time.” The Hyuuga answered simply as he backed out of the short drive way of the green two story house.
The slim brunet rolled his eyes and gave his friend a dry look.
“And you wanted company for the drive.” He said sarcastically. Neji glanced at him and nodded.
“Yeah, I did. You got a problem with that Uchiha?” he asked, smirking.
“I just don't see why it's always gotta be me” Sasuke muttered, glaring moodily at the cereal bar he held, before he tore the wrapped off and took a bite.
“And I don't understand why you're a vegetarian, but you don't see me complaining do you?” Neji replied, giving his head a light toss. Sasuke rolled his eyes.
“It's called my mother's animal activist ways and my own watching my weight decision.” Sasuke replied, taking another bite of his bar. Neji snorted.
“Watching your weight? Sasuke, you're tiny! Getting fat should be something you want!” Neji stated glancing at his friend. “You make sticks jealous!”
Sasuke rolled his eyes and lightly punched Neji's arm.
“I'm not that small!” he retorted. “Let's just say that because of my mother, eating something that at one point could make noise, run around and reproduce kinda freaks me out.” The pale young man explained, his dark eyes flicking over to Neji. “She's drilled that into me since I was old enough to chew, remember? It's not my fault.” He finished, shrugging.
“Yeah I know.” Neji replied, lifting an arm and settling his elbow on the door edge, his index finger resting on his lower lip.
“Anyway… Wake me when we get there, I'm having a nap.” Sasuke informed Neji, crunching up his bar wrapper in his hand and shifting slightly, getting a little more comfortable in his seat.
“Sure.” Neji replied, glancing over at Sasuke, his mind wandering to his conversation with Hinata last night. He frowned and moved his hand from his face and settled it on the steering wheel, his forehead furrowed in thought.
The pretty young brunette shook her head and giggled slightly at the tall blonde seated next to her on the sofa. He'd shuffled the playing cards three times now and was beginning to do so again.
“Naruto!” She said suddenly, lifting a hand and giggling again as Naruto gave her a startled look and the cards flew from his hands.
“GAH! Oh… Heh… Sorry.” Naruto grinned sheepishly at his friend before he set about picking the cards up again.
“It's all right.” Hinata replied, helping him to pick up the cards. “But Naruto… You need to relax.” She told him gently, handing him the cards she'd collected.
“Yeah… I know.” Naruto sighed and glanced the living room window again. “Sorry.” He apologized again, starting to shuffled the cards once more before catching himself and chuckling.
“How'd your night with Kiba go?” He asked, wanting to change the subject.
“Oh, it went quite well!” Hinata replied, nodding. “Kiba really is a sweet guy.” She said, smiling. “Thank you for setting that up for us Naruto.” Hinata dipped her head slightly, blushing a little bit. Naruto grinned and shook his head.
“Nah, I should be thanking you!” he replied. “You gonna go out again?” He asked, the cards still held in his hands.
“Mmhmm!” Hinata nodded. “Yes, we're going to go to the absolute again on Saturday.” She replied. Naruto beamed at her.
“That's great!” He laughed, happy for his friends. Hinata began to reply before she glanced over, hearing the door bell. “Oh that'll be them. I'll be right back okay?” She smiled and patted Naruto's knee reassuringly before rising and smoothing out the folds of her light pink summer dress and heading out of the living room.
Naruto swallowed and absently started shuffling the cards again, his mouth suddenly dry and his palms sweaty.
“Come on Naruto… Relax…” He ordered himself between grit teeth.
But when he heard the front door open and Hinata's cheery greeting of `Hey guys!' He lost it. His hands slipped and the cards went flying everywhere. They fell about him like a strange kind of snow, decorating the sofa and the floor.
“Damn it…” He cursed, trying to catch them as they fell about his head. He lunged forward and ended up flat on his face on the floor. Mentally he cursed.
“Ahem…” Hearing Hinata's quiet cough from the doorway, he cursed more profusely in his head and slowly lifted his head and looked at the doorway.
“Hello… Naruto? Was it?”
