UNINTENIONAL COMRADE
Sakura no longer had the time to grab her ANBU mask, more so to put it on. She just stared at the door as it swung open, revealing her companion for the next number of days.
"Neji?"
Neji merely glanced at her to acknowledge her presence. He then stared at Tsunade who told him to have a seat.
"Good, now since that both of you are now present. I would like to give you your mission. Im telling you now, this isn't going to be nice, especially for you Sakura. Don't get your feelings involved. But I believe you already know this."
'Don't get my feelings involved? What the heck! First from Kakashi-sensei, then from Tsunade-hime.' Sakura just stared at the Hokage and didn't answer.
"Now the mission, as both of you might know, regards to retrieval. I want him back here, in Konoha." She stopped and stared at Sakura.
She's getting impatient. Calm down Sakura, calm down. "Who is it Tsunade-sama?"
"The one who you will retrieve… is Uchiha Sasuke."
'Uchiha Sasuke…'
'Sasuke…'
'Don't leave…'
'Weak…'
'No.. Im not…'
'I hate you…'
Neji seemed to be absorbing the information calmly, while Sakura can't seem to focus well from hearing the latter name.
"Uchiha…Sasuke?" Her mind suddenly stopped working. Her blood flow increased, pulsing through her veins in such rapid motion that she can feel it. She felt insulted… It's no secret how much devotion she had given the Uchiha, but sending HER to retrieve HIM is just plain cruel. She has managed to go on… but then… she has to see him again. It's like placing yourself in your own dark world after seeing your light, like imprisoning yourself in situations with the knowledge that you can't escape from it. For her, seeing Sasuke can only make her life much more badly than it already is.
No, Tsunade's mistaken… it can't be Sasuke… of all people to retrieve… why Sasuke? Of all people to retrieve him… why her? Did Tsunade plan it all? Is there a deeper meaning for this mission? Other reasons? Or… maybe fate decided that it would be time to settle things once and for all? Either reasons… she wasn't comforted. She wanted to back away from the mission. Why is fate so damn cruel to her? Are they playing some kind of sick joke on her? What have she done wrong to deserve this?
"Sakura?" Neji asked, he felt the sudden outburst of chakra within her. It just suddenly blazed inside her… like anger kept within a long time and has managed to free itself. It might have been an emotional outburst.
"Im fine…" she whispered back, closing her eyes to calm down. In the least, she doesn't want Naruto to know about it. He'd gone berserk if he founds out.
"Sakura, Neji, I wish you the best in this mission… and please, try not to fail. There's a reason behind all of this, I want him back here." Tsunade was about to return on what she was doing earlier when a trembling hand slammed against the table. Tsunade looked up into a very enraged kunoichi who can't seem to sustain her anger any longer. "What is it Sakura?"
Her emerald eyes were a mixture of various emotions.
Hate. 'Damn you Sasuke… for breaking me.'
Fear. 'But still… my heart pounds in fear when your memories come back.'
Sorrow. 'Why can't you see me?'
Love. 'When I've loved you despite the things you have said.'
"Why… why me?!" He snapped at the brown-eyed Hokage.
Tsunade looked away from her, feeling a little guilty of assigning her in the mission. She didn't want to hurt her student. Her only student. "Sakura, if you still have personal conflicts with that Uchiha… kindly disregard it during the mission. I thought you already know that."
'Don't get your feelings involved. So that's what they mean.' Suddenly, Sakura felt betrayed. Had her sensei knew it before her? How dare he not tell her?!
"I understand." She said through gritted teeth.
Neji had been watching the kunoichi for a while, but he then looked at the Hokage. "Any more details Tsunade-sama?"
"Yes…"
Sakura's head snapped up. There's more? Is there anything worse that seeing Sasuke again? What more could there be?
"You're leaving tomorrow."
Neji just nodded and went out the room, but Sakura stayed. Not wanting to believe it all. Seeing Sasuke was one thing. But leaving in such a hurry is just too much.
"Tsunade-sama…"
"Yes Sakura?"
Sakura bit her lips and looked away. "No, just… forget it." She bowed and left the room as well.

Sakura had wondered where Neji might have gone, but knowing him, he might have probably resumed his training. The idea of having Neji as her comrade somehow pleased her. Knowing that Neji has his own uniqueness, but the idea of not knowing much about him seem to unnerve her.
She doesn't know much about the Hyuuga genius, it might take sometime for her to settle down with him. Hopefully, it won't be too much a work for her to be used to the idea that the two of them would be together for some time.
She was headed back home when Naruto caught up with her. "Sakura-chan! Sakura-chan!"
Sakura stopped and looked over her shoulders, staring at the loud shinobi that's now heading towards her. An unpleasant feeling seemed to form itself at the pit of her stomach. How could she tell him without him worrying or going berserk? The least she could do is turn away.
"Sakura-chan! How is it? The mission?"
Sakura's eyes met Naruto and she sighed. "I'll tell you when we arrive at your place. We might have to discuss some things."
Naruto just nodded as they walked together, Sakura following one step behind. Naruto glanced at the kunoichi as they walked. Something was bothering her. He sighed and decided to ask her about it later.
Arriving at Naruto's place, the boy stared at the kunoichi as she sat in the living room. "Naruto…" she started as soon as the boy was seated in front of her.
"It's a retrieval mission."
Naruto nodded, trying to figure out what is it that bothers her greatly.
"Im going with Neji."
Naruto smiled a bit. If she's with Neji, then he won't be that much worried about her. Neji is a talented shinobi, and he's wise enough not to put Sakura in an awkward situation.
"Were leaving tomorrow."
Naruto's smile faded a bit. He of course will be missing her, but there's one thing that she isn't telling him… yet. Who is it they're going to retrieve?
"Naruto…"
He just stared at her, listening.
"We're going to retrieve Sasuke."
"WHAT?!" Naruto stood up, glaring at Sakura. "You're going to retrieve that fucking bastard?! Did you have any say about it? Im sure Tsunade will hear you out if you backed out from the mission!"
"I did Naruto…" Sakura was trembling now, she did suspect this coming, but when Naruto can no longer suppress all raging emotion he's going berserk.
"And what did the old hag say?"
"Naruto… look, she might have a reason. We shouldn't question her decisions."
"Are you telling me that she didn't allow you to drop the mission?"
"Naruto… she's the Hokage."
"DAMN SAKURA! Just answer me!"
"She didn't… she didn't allow." Sakura gripped her pants tightly as she tried to avoid eye contact.
Naruto just sat down. Shaking from fury. "Im sorry Sakura-chan… I should not have raised my voice."
"Its ok… Naruto, I can take care of myself… I--"
He stood up. "I'll talk to the Hokage, and if she didn't allow you to drop the mission…"
"Naruto its fine… really--" but Naruto grabbed her wrist and led her all the way to Tsunade's office.

A knock.
"Sasuke-kun?"
The Uchiha frowned and went to the door. "What is it?"
"Orochimaru-sama wanted you in his quarters. Now."
"Damn it, what does he want?" he whispered to himself, sitting up on his bed. "Fine, Kabuto, tell him Im coming."
"Hai"
Sasuke sighed and walked down the dark corridor, scowling a bit at the sulking shadows surrounding him. Screams were often heard from down here, but he has no idea on what causes those screams, besides, he could care less. Standing out Orochimaru's door he sighed and went in.
"Sasuke-kun…" the creepy voice acknowledged him.
Even through the dim light, he could see an outline of a female beside Orochimaru's chair. He scoffed, "What is it that you want from me?"
"I want you to meet Hana. She's a representative of the organization I've made. They are about to attack Konoha in no less than a week. I was thinking, if you want, you could go with them. And have your revenge." Orochimaru smirked from behind the shadows, but it didn't go past the Uchiha's notice.
"Fine… I'll go." He scrutinized the girl for a while. The first thing he noticed, she has green eyes. Fuck.
"Sasuke-kun, I would suggest that you go to our headquarters… so that it could be discussed." Hana whispered timidly.
He frowned. He had only met her for less than a minute and she already annoys him. "It's not necessary."
"But--"
"You heard me woman. Im not used in company." He then left the room with thoughts in his head.
Green eyes. Those eyes can only remind her of one particular girl. There is only one green-eyed girl who can easily penetrate his mind.
His thoughts returned back to Konoha, where a certain pink-haired girl lives. A girl who could annoy him to no end and a girl who could continue loving him despite all the things he had done and said to her. Poor kunoichi, she might have been waiting for him up until now. Well, she did say that she would wait for him didn't she?
Green eyes… so what if he found another girl with the same eyes as Sakura? But if only he looked deeper, he would've realized that Sakura's emerald ones are much more soulful, more comforting… full of emotion… and concern. Hana's eyes are just ordinary greens. But then again, he smirked; he could care less if they are both green. Oh, if only he knew that green eyes could have a very big impact in his life.
His foot halted automatically when he reached his room. Sasuke snapped back to reality. He frowned, he wanted so much to bang his head on the wall for thinking about that kunoichi. Right now, what he wants is to just gain his normal self.
He then retired to his room, his thoughts focusing on Konoha and its residents for a while. He sighed and disregarded the village from his mind. All he wanted was sleep, and the dream that follows it. He wanted to see her face once more… or at least, know her name. She alone can give him the pleasure the he wanted, even though he knew she isn't real… he yearned for her. He then closed his eyes and his seal pricked… it starts.
"Sasuke-kun…" the blanket-clad girl approached him. "Im here for you… always…"
"Its just a dream…"
"I'll do anything for you… you know that."
"Anything?"
"Hai… Sasuke-kun…"
"Kiss me…"
The girl did as she was asked. She kissed him, her fingers digging deep into his raven hair.
Sasuke reacted quickly and pulled the girl down the bed with him, settling above her, he pressed his mouth down on her lips… his tongue playing with hers. His skin tingled as he felt her fingers wound under his shirt. He shivered as she moaned in his mouth. This girl sure knew how to arouse him. He stopped for a while and yanked his shirt off, leaving him only in his pants.
The girl stared at him. Wounding her arms around his neck, she pulled him down on her. She intended to plant a kiss on the boy's lips, but Sasuke found his way on her neck. On which he ran his lips, up to her jawline until his mouth captured hers once more. "Sasuke-kun…" she whispered.
She gasped as his hands yanked off her blankets and found their way to her chests, his hand wandered lower to her flat stomach. He stopped kissing her and stared at her eyes. His vision was clouded thus he can't see her eyes clearly. "What's your name?"
He sensed the girl stiffened under him. He then lowered his head to her neck, sucking… at the same time, demanding an answer.
The girl moaned in pleasure as he did, but still she denied him of what he wanted. Her name, instead, she declared. "It isn't important… but maybe… just maybe." She pulled him up and kissed him again, her fingernails digging at Sasuke's back.
Both of them weren't aware what happened after their short conversation, they only knew how intimate the moment is. The aroused boy yearning for her, and the girl wanted him to be inside her. The intense heat radiating from both naked bodies made both of them break out in sweat. The girl was panting as Sasuke pleasured both of them by the use of his hands.
The girl whispered his name every now and then, in which aroused the boy greatly. The fingernails digging at his waist didn't help much either for him to have control over his movements, his control is getting limited… his patience wavering. He wanted her… now, his need for the girl is starting to eat him inside out, if he didn't do it now, he would lose his mind.
Positioning himself between the girl's thighs for his first thrust, he looked at the girl again. He couldn't make out the face. Strands of hair covered her face, he frowned a bit. 'I still can't see..' he thought.
"Sasuke-kun…" she muttered yet again, feeling his warmth between her legs only made her skin tingle in anticipation, she moaned.
Sasuke summoned all the control he had left… this girl is making him mad. He looked at her and spoke through gritted teeth… lust, want, and need pulsed through his veins. "Say stop and I will."
"I..I… Sasuke-kun…"
"Say it!" Sasuke's control is slowly fading.
"I won't stop you…"
She said it. It was all the Uchiha needed to release all control he had in his body. The girl gasped, as she did in his every dream. Soon enough, their bodies are moving in a rhythmic order. In. Out. In. All fell into place. Sasuke became whole, his need slowly getting filled by the unknown girl in his arms. Even though it was just a dream, she satisfied his need… every damn cold night.
Before falling back at the girl's side, he stared at her once more. Both of them were gasping for air after their affair, the intimate moments being shared were never forgotten by the Uchiha, and this night won't be any different. Or so he thought, but this night would bring all changes into his life… for he would finally have a hint on the profile of the girl. Panting as he laid beside her, he closed his eyes for a while. But when he did open them, his eyes were staring at the girl's eyes, leaving him in a daze. Why? The girl's eyes… they are a shade of luscious green.
"Its just a dream Sasuke… just a dream…" he whispered to himself.
He saw the girl smile. "It is more than a dream… and you know it…"
"Who are you…?"
"You'll know soon enough, right now… its time for you to wake up. Just remember… im here for you… always."
'Always…'
'Every night…'
'Sasuke-kun….'
'Always…'
Just then, Sasuke woke up. Panting. "Its her…" he gripped his blanket in confusion. "Why…? Of all women… why should it be her!"
_________________________________________________________________ _______
"Why should it be her?!" Naruto shouted in front of the Hokage.
"It just seems fitting that's all." Tsunade replied casually.
"FITTING?! Retrieving that damn bastard and you say she's FITTING to do it?"
"Are you questioning my decision?"
"No he isn't." Sakura stood firm as she addressed Tsunade, and then she glanced at Naruto. "Calm down…" she whispered.
"I will… but in one condition." He whispered back then he turned to the Hokage.
"I want to be in it as well."
"Naruto!" Sakura gasped at Naruto's proposal, but a flicker of hope suddenly filled her.
"Naruto you can't. We need spare jounin here in Konoha. We can't just let you go because you just want to."
"Old hag, I can't just let Sakura-chan go to that bastard, let alone face him--"
"She's with Neji."
"I know! I trust him and all but--"
"Then it's settled…"
"TSUNADE-HIME!!!! I'll release my damn fox if--"
"Naruto stop… there's no point." Sakura whispered, tugging at Naruto's sleeve.
Tsunade stared at the two, thinking it over. She sighed. "Fine Naruto… In that case, I want the TRHEE of you to bring back Sasuke, and since you said you wanted to protect Sakura, I want to see her unscathed when you return. Is that understood?"
Sakura's eyes widened in relief, "Tsunade-sama…"
"You betcha old hag!" Naruto grinned his fox-grin. But Tsunade flinched.
"Old…hag?"
Naruto was laughing and didn't notice Tsunade's gaze, but Sakura stiffened.
"IM NOT OLD!!!"
"AHAHAHAHA-- aaaaahhh!!!" Naruto shouted as Tsunade chased him out her room.
Sakura smiled as she watched how the Hokage's attitude changes in presence of the blond boy. But nonetheless, she was glad that Naruto would be coming with them. Suddenly, the mission doesn't seem too dreadful anymore. She then left the room following Naruto out.
"Sakura?" Tsunade called from her room before she closed the door. "Kindly inform Neji of this." She sighed, rubbing her fingertips on her temple.
"I will Tsunade-sama." She then closed the door behind her.
"With Naruto beside Sakura, maybe I don't have to worry about her that much." She smiled to herself.

"Sakura-chan! Come lets eat ramen. My treat!" Naruto waved at her as she walked down the stairs.
Sakura looked at the unusually hyperactive boy and smiled a bit. "Im sorry Naruto, I have to go tell Neji about this."
"About what?"
"That you would be coming with us."
Naruto waited for her and nodded. "Well… oh geez…." He smiled, "I understand. Ok then. Oh I almost forgot!"
"Hmm? Which?"
"Hinata and the others wanted to see you this afternoon." Naruto said with that thoughtful expression when he tries to remember something.
"Anything else?"
"Uh… I know there is… I just can't seem to remember… ah yeah! They said that they would wait for you at Ino's house."
"Ok then Naruto, thanks for telling me."
"Anytime Sakura-chan!" he then waved at ran to Ichiraku's, probably to satisfy his appetite.
_________________________________________________________________ _______
Sakura walked down the streets of Konoha. Though the breeze is calming and the sky is clear, the village people have disgruntled and unnerving faces as they looked at her. It seems that her mission is no longer secret. Of course, the betrayal of the Uchiha is no secret to the townspeople, so why in seven hells would the Hokage want to retrieve him?
Some people look at Sakura with pity, knowing what she had gone through regarding the Uchiha. Some people with anger, they do not want her to bring back Sasuke, but knowing her, they knew that she would do all in her power to bring him back.
They just don't know how wrong they are.
A part of her wanted to curse him, and the other just wants to hug him tight and never let go. No one could understand the pain she was going through… the pain of choosing the lesser evil. No one could see the pain in her eyes.
She ignored the stares and went to Ino's house. She stepped inside the flower shop and stopped at the door of the Yamanaka's. She sighed and raised her fist to knock.
Knock. Knock.
Im going to tell you something.
Knock. Knock.
It's about my mission.
Knock. Knock.
There's no need to worry Naruto's coming too.
Knock. Knock.
We're going to retrieve Sasuke.
Knock. Kno--
"Sakura! I thought you ain't coming!" Ino opened the door widely for the kunoichi to enter.
Sakura, suspended in her thoughts, had her fist risen in mid-air, ready to knock once more. She sighed and lowered her fist down. "Naruto almost forgot to tell me, that's why I came in late."
"That dumbass… anyway it's a good thing he didn't forget to tell you. Come in." Ino said, expressing her relief. She then stepped aside and gave enough room for Sakura to enter.
"Thank you for inviting me. Anyway… what's the reason?" Sakura asked. She looked around and saw Hinata on the couch fidgeting her fingers warily. "Hinata?"
"Take a seat Sakura" Ino stated after closing the door her voice suddenly serious.
This somewhat unnerved the girl as she sat down across Hinata. Ino went to the kitchen and fetched a cup of tea for the three of them. Placing them in the table in front them, she sat beside Hinata and stared at Sakura.
"Neji told us… or rather, he told Hinata who told me about the mission."
Sakura was suddenly angered by this, Why are they so damn worried about her? She isn't that weak not to take care of herself. Why are they so damn stubborn not to see that retrieving Sasuke is just a mission for her as a shinobi, and as a shinobi one has to put the mission first before their personal affairs.
Regarding her intellect, it would be unnecessary to doubt the girl's abilities to understand ninja rules.
"What? Don't give me that rant about how I can do the mission… that I should back out. Naruto's with us, so don't you worry yourselves sick that I'll get carried away by 'emotions' which you think I can't handle responsibly! IM SEVENTEEN FOR KONOHA'S SAKE!" She suddenly stood up, almost knocking her cup of tea due to her uncontrollable rage.
Hinata is currently trembling with fear, while Ino is staring at the raging kunoichi, dumbstruck with her mouth slightly open from surprise in her sudden outburst.
Was this the Sakura she once knew?
Was this the Sakura that she had given confidence before?
Was this the Sakura whom she helped find a voice?
It angered her a bit when she realized that Sakura was shouting at her. Her. Ino Yamanaka. The girl who helped the pink-haired kunoichi stand up on her own feet. The girl who helped Sakura to find her voice. How dare she be so ungrateful? But then, standing on her place, in her situation. She might as well be enraged when people seem to doubt her capabilities as a kunoichi, but then… they were just worried about her, their fragile cherry blossom.
"Sakura-san… we don't mean it that way. We don't intend to doubt--" Hinata stammered.
"WHY SAKURA?! ARE YOU CONFIDENT ENOUGH THAT YOU CAN JUST GO INTERJECT SASUKE-KUN'S LIFE AND BRING HIM HERE?!" Ino shouted, trying to waken Sakura of the things she wanted to tell her, that she was only worried about her friend… or better yet, her BEST friend.
"IM NOT SAYING THAT IM CONFIDENT! I JUST DON'T NEED THOSE STUPID REMARKS ON HOW I CAN'T DO THE JOB!"
"ITS NOT ONLY SASUKE-KUN WERE TALKING ABOUT HERE! THAT DAMN OROCHIMARU IS ALSO CONCERNED IN THIS!"
"SO WHAT?! YOURE TELLING ME THAT I'LL JUST BE SCARED IN FRONT OF THAT SNAKE?!"
"IM NOT SAYING ANYTHING LIKE THAT!"
"THEN KEEP OUT OF IT! DON'T MAKE IT SEEM LIKE YOU ACTUALLY 'CARE' ABOUT ME!"
"SAKURA! IM JUST DAMN WORRIED ABOUT YOU!"
"DID I ASK YOU TO?!"
A hard slap was given to the roseate-haired kunoichi. Should she look at Ino's face, she would have seen the uncontrollable tears rolling down her cheeks. "Its true you did not ask me… or Hinata to be worried about you. You know why? BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE TO!"
"Ino-chan… Sakura-chan… stop it. Don't shout… anymore." Hinata already has her face buried on her palms, forcing the words out as she wept.
Sakura dropped down the couch, holding her head. "I… Im sorry… I didn't mean to… I was just…"
Suddenly, Ino kneeled in front of her and hugged her, crying as she hugged the girl tighter. "We know Sakura… we know… its just… we don't want you to be hurt again. You know how important you are to us… to Konoha."
"Ino, I… thank you." Sakura smiled as she hugged the girl back. Hinata, who have been watching the whole time already had a smile on her face as well. "Thank you… both of you."
Ino and Hinata just nodded... No longer was the Sakura who was always in need of rescuing, no longer was a girl that could only watch while her teammates fight. On the fragile girl's place now stood a lovely, strong-willed woman, a true kunoichi of Konoha.
Sakura looked out the window, seeing that the sun is starting to set. She sighed and stood up, "I have to go… I still have to inform Neji about the changes in the mission."
"We understand…"
"Sakura-san… I think Neji-niisan would probably be at the forest… training." Hinata informed timidly.
"Thank you Hinata, well… I'll be going then." She turned her back at them and raised a hand in a simple wave before closing the door behind her back.
_________________________________________________________________ _______
Neji indeed was training since he left Tsunade and Sakura. To say the least, he had been training from morning and its already dark. Sakura had been watching nearby, studying him. 'He's almost similar to Sasuke when it comes to training,' she thought.
Her eyes then widened, "He'll collapse any minute. He had worn himself out. Training since morning until now without resting? No one can survive that long!" she whispered to herself as she jumped down from her tree. She then ran towards him. "Neji-san!"
"Sakura?" Neji looked up, leaning at a nearby tree, clearly exhausted.
"You should take a rest Neji-san… here, have a seat." Sakura went over to him and helped him lower himself unto the ground, leaning him on the tree. "I have to tell you something."
"What?" Neji deactivated his byakugan and tried to catch his breath.
"Well, Naruto, he knew who it was that we would be retrieving… so he insisted to join the mission."
"And the Hokage actually agreed?"
"Yes"
Neji's lips resembled a small smile. "That idiot… so the two of us are together again… same mission, same person to be retrieved. I hope it doesn't have the same outcome as before."
"I hope so too…"
Just then Neji's eyes fluttered close as he collapsed forward from exhaustion, Sakura just caught him in time for him not to hit the ground. "Guess I have to tend you at home." She sighed and proceeded home.
Arriving back home, she quickly laid Nasake on the couch. She ran to the kitchen and picked up a damp towel. Walking back to the hunter-nin, she removed his hitaiate and was taken aback when she saw a bundle of bandages covering his forehead. She knew what is it that he was trying to cover. It was the seal of being a Branch member of the Hyuuga Clan. The green 'x' that will only disappear only at his death to cover the secrets of the byakugan. Deciding that it will be better to leave his seal covered, she placed the damp cloth over his covered forehead.
As she finished, she stood up to leave, but a hand held her wrist, making her unable to move away. Neji had just held her back. Her face slowly turned crimson as she sat back down beside him. "Neji-san, do you need something?"
"Sakura… tell me… you were there when Sasuke left Konoha… you were the last one who spoke to him before he left. Am I Right?"
"Yes… why the question?"
"I want to know… why he left, and I want you to tell me."
Sakura looked down and gripped her pants in anger. "He left… he left because…"

=PREVIEW FOR CHAPTER 3=
Sasuke jumped down effortlessly and stuffed his hands in his pockets as soon as his feet touched the solid ground. "Sensei, you know that this is a waste of my time. I need to train."
"I know that-- but is it still necessary?"
'I don't know anymore…' Sasuke just stayed quiet.
"Well, what does it say?"
Onyx orbs stared at the jounin inquiringly.
The jounin, completely understanding the message being sent answered. "The scroll, what does it say?"
