Forget Me Not
Kougasmate- hello, and welcome to my first Naruto fic! YAY! Well, a few things to start off with. I do not own Naruto, or any related characters. I do, however, own Tarikana, and the little girl, so yeah. Another thing, the title is basically like the flower `forget me not' and it has meaning in it later, so watch for that. Well, enjoy!

“Gaara? Gaara….”
There was that same voice, the voice he'd heard on many nights when he was alone, with nothing but his thoughts to comfort him.
“C'mon Gaara, let's go play, okay?”
Gaara sighed, shifting the weight of the gourd on his back, listening to the childish voice in the back of his mind. He knew that the voice was one from childhood, but he wasn't so sure the offer to play had been to him. Perhaps, he'd heard the young female's voice asking another person to play, and his lonely mind had simply adjusted it to fit his own wants.
“Ah c'mon Gaara,” the voice whined, “forget about all our problems and smile, kay?”
Gaara grunted and closed his eyes, as if that would help him to remember the owner of the voice. But, surrounded by soft, quiet noise such as he was, he soon found himself being lulled into a dangerous, dangerous sleep. Just as he was about to lose himself to slumber, the image of a young girl crying came to mind, her arm and head bloodied, her small, familiar voice rasping out,
“Wake up Gaara…don't fall asleep…”
His eyes snapped open and he gasped. The girl in the vision just had to be the same girl who's voice he heard.
His face unreadable, he began leafing through a few pieces of paperwork, his duties of kaze kage having been put off for long enough. But, even as he worked, he couldn't get over the girl who's voice he heard, his mind wondering who she was.
As he skimmed through the papers, one caught his attention.
“Flower Shop Owner, Tarikana, Missing….
Tarikana, the local flower shop caretaker, went missing approximately 24 hours ago. No news has been reported on her where-abouts, but authorities have been sent out to look for her. She holds no ninja ranking, but her late father was well informed on many village secrets. 17 years old, brown hair, pale blue eyes, and two scars, one on her arm, and one on the left side of her head near her temple are the most noticeable qualities. Five feet six inches….”
The report went on to describe her in greater detail, and to seek guidance on whether or not to disperse a tracker ninja, should she prove a traitor to the village. But Gaara knew he would be taking on the mission himself, for this girl seemed a perfect match to the one in his mind, and he was intent on finding her, although he would never admit it.
As these thoughts came to Gaara, one more came, a memory coming to the surface.
“I don't want it.” A young Gaara had commented, pushing a brightly colored flower out of his face.
“Sure ya do!” It was a young girl with brown pigtails and blue eyes, “Everyone wants my flowers! Daddy says I should open a shop when I gets older!”
Gaara grunted, “The weather here isn't right for flowers.”
“Then how did I grow this flower?” She smiled.
Gaara shrugged, “I don't know.”
Smiling, she handed it to him, “One day, I'm gonna open a shop, for all my pretty flowers to live in, and when I do, I'll make sure to bring you the prettiest flowers in my shop, but only if you promise not to ever forget me, kay?”
At first, Gaara hadn't known what to do, so he set his teddy down and accepted the flower, looking at the girl with confusion. “Why do girls like flowers so much?”
“Because, they symbolize love… at least that's what my sister says…or was that chocolate? Either way, flowers are special to me, so please take it?” She had ended her plea with teary eyes, so Gaara had no choice but to accept.
“Fine, and, I promise, I wont forget you.”
“Pinky promise?” As she moved to grip his pinky in hers, he shied away.
“Why'd ya do that?” She asked, her pigtails bobbing.
“Girls gots cooties.”
“No we don't!” She replied with an indignant shriek. Gaara shrugged, “That's what brother says.” The girl smiled, picking up Gaara's teddy. “Well, Gaara, that's why he wont be getting any flowers from me.” She handed Gaara his teddy and smiled. She then kissed Gaara on the cheek, and then darted off madly, laughing loudly. What did Gaara do about all of this? He went home and opened his teddy bear up, placed the flower inside, and asked Temari to sew it back up…
Gaara's cheeks tinted red as he remembered that encounter. Temari had done such a good job sewing up his teddy, he couldn't even see where he'd cut it open. Looking around, he found it and took out a kunai. Carefully, he slit it's stomach, watching as a faded, yet still beautiful, flower emerged. Sighing, he signed the form regarding the woman's disappearance, writing that he himself, the kaze kage, would be taking on the mission…. Which left him with a cut open teddy, a crumpling flower, and a mystery.
I thought the part with the little girl and Gaara talking was cute! Didn't you? And also, I don't know it Gaara still has that bear or not, my mind hates me and has chosen to forget. If he doesn't, tell me. I wont change it, I'll just be aware of it. I want the teddy, DAMNIT! LOL. ***SPOILER***Anyway, another thing is, I know that Gaara can now (he's seventeen when this is happening) fall asleep, because he no longer has the demon inside him, but I chose to ignore that. Why? Because I am the author! ***SPoiLER ENDS*** Anyway, tell me if you liked it or not. Helpful suggestions welcome, but if your just going to say, that sucked, then go away. Well, this is my first Naruto fic I've done without my friend helping me with random info, but I think it turned out really well, ja ne? Keep a look out for more chapters!
