Forgiveness is for Naught
Chapter One: Dream the Sweetest Dream
Diabolical Kitsutora
He looked into the sky, relishing his time sitting there on that cliff overlooking the bright luscious blue ocean. This was his home, Konoha Village, it was also her village. The young man sighed, he was to meet his friend in a half hour for a training session. Really, he didn't feel like going, he would rather continue to drown in the memories of her. She was the only one he had ever really loved, and though he pretended to love Sakura, he really loved her, and only her. The breeze lightly passed over his sun kissed hair, and brushed against his striped cheeks. The wind brought him a sense of calm, something he only felt when he sat upon this cliff. Five Years ago, it had been five years ago she left him to go find another sensei. It had been five years ago that he had told her that he really loved her and not Sakura.
'I really tried to convince her to stay here, I really did. She told me weeks before she left, that she planned to go find another sensei, that KakashiSensei had three people in his cell. I told her that he didn't mind and there were other senseis in the village, but she left anyways. Even after I told her I loved her. Did she even hear what I said?'
The blond haired boy stared down into the waves, and then stood up. Sasuke would have a fit if he didn't show up for another training session. He had already missed quite a few, while he was sitting here, swimming in his thoughts. Sasuke would always come to find him after he hadn't shown up. He also would always find him in the same position. Sitting there, his arms held around his legs, his chin resting on his knees, with that same dreadful longing, sad, yet expressionless face.
The black haired boy normally just let him be after he tried for an hour to get his attention. But sometimes he was more persistent, and could actually get the blond haired kitsune boy, Naruto, to talk. Everyone knew what was on his mind, it was always on his mind. His best friend, he loved her dearly, as his best friend and more. It was common news to everyone, but to Naruto, he felt like she was oblivious to it. Sighing again he started walking towards the training grounds he and Sasuke used.
Naruto pushed the thought out of his mind that she was oblivious to how he felt for her. There was no way that could be, and he had no right to think that way. On his way he followed a small dirt path that went through a huge forest, and lead to a huge clearing. It was surrounded by trees, rocks, rivers, most everything. It was also their hangout, when Sakura or Sasuke could convince him to move from his cliff perch.
'I've grown a lot, in mind, body, skill, and wisdom. I'm sure she'd be surprised at how mature I've gotten. I'm willing to bet though, once I see her face again, I'll be back to my old ways in the split of a second. Believe it.' Naruto thought weakly.
The thought crossed his mind many times, but left quickly, just like it had come. Naruto was surprised, there was no Sasuke tapping his foot in annoyance because he was a little late. Shrugging, Naruto found a fallen tree and made his seat on it. 10 Minutes he waited for Sasuke before going back to his favorite cliff top perch. They both had agreed if Sasuke wasn't there, then there was no training session that day.
So Naruto backtracked his way through the forest maze, and back down the dirt road to his new unequipped home. Yes, he did have a small shabby hut, but he never went to it anymore. Not since she left. Come to think of it, he hardly ever left the spot where he last talked to her. Occasionally, Sasuke or Sakura would make him follow them to their own little homes so he could recover from a bug he got while out in the treacherous weathers.
"Please, come back soon Kottashi. I miss you dearly." Looking to the setting sun, he allowed a solitary tear to fall. He knew it was hopeless to plead for her return, and one tear over five years of waiting wasn't going to bring her back. Just to hear her voice, for a second would bring him relief.
-------------------------------------------
She looked to the orange, red, blue, purple, yellow, pink sky. She was finally going home. After five years of training with her sensei, she was finally going home. The sea foam green haired kitsune girl couldn't help but get lost in her thoughts, as the rickety wheels of the wagon turned with protest as the mules pressed onward towards their final goal for the day. Thinking back to her dear village, the instant image of her dearest friend came to her minds eye, and then the day she left him.
'That's right, it was a day much like today, and I had asked him to meet me at the cliff. I sat there and waited for his arrival. I'm pretty sure he knew it was going to be about my plan for finding myself different sensei. Sitting, there I waited for him. He arrived pretty much as soon as I sat down...'
"So what is your village like Otome?" Asked her sensei, he liked to call her daughter, since she acted like such.
'Yeah, that's when I told him I found my new sensei, and that I was leaving, for I didn't know how long, and that I didn't know when I'd return. Even though I knew I'd return after about five years. He begged...'
"Otome?" He asked curiously.
'He begged me not to go, to just train with Kakashi. But I couldn't, he had a three-man cell already to look after, and 28 students couldn't be evenly distributed in 3-men cells... So I had to leave him, but then...'
"Otome are you ok? Otome?" He dug into a small container, and let his hand linger in it for a while, still looking at the girl next to him.
'Then... he... he... Told me he loved me, I knew he did, and I knew he was going to tell me, but if I had told him I felt the same, then it would have meant an even harder goodbye for him. So I...'
"Otome talk to me, is something wrong?" He looked at his hand, it was beginning to turn blue, so he removed it from the container and slowly began to bring it to the back of her neck.
'I just walked away without saying a word to his confession. I don't blame him if he hates me. No he won't hate me, he'll be upset but maybe he could...'
"HOLY FUCK THAT'S COLD!!!!" The girl howled, Arashi had grabbed onto the back of the kitsune's neck, and his hand was freezing.
Arashi laughed his ass off, "I see I now have your attention Otome, which seems to get you every time."
"HOLY HELL COLD!! THAT IS SOOOO FREAKING COLD!!!!" Yelled the kitsune girl trying to pry off her sensei's hand from her neck.
-------------------------------------------
"SasukeKun, go find Naruto quick! She's finally back!!!" Sakura yelled, everyone in the village had heard the death scream of coldness.
That yell was all too common, everyone knew that to be her voice. Some villagers groaned, others cheered, and some just didn't give a damn. The kitsune was always hyperactive, happy, energetic, but serious when she had to be. Sasuke walked over to Sakura, he had been on a date with her, and he had totally forgotten he was supposed to train with Naruto. Just the mention of his name made him remember.
"You serious, she's back already?! Ok then don't move, I'll go get Naruto." With that Sasuke ran off to find the blond haired kitsune.
-------------------------------------------
Naruto sighed again, he had gotten into the habit of sighing a lot. So much, that it annoyed his friends all the time. He missed her so much, it hurt him, yet calmed him to think of her.
'Will you ever come back?'
"Naruto!!!" Yelled Sasuke from about 20 yards behind Naruto.
'Do you even want to come back? Let alone see me ever again?'
"NARUTO!!!" He yelled, now only 15 yards.
'When will I get to see your face again, even if it's for just a split second, when will it be that I get to see you again?'
"DAMNIT NARUTO PAY ATTENTION TO ME!!! GET OFF YOUR ASS AND LET'S GO!!!" Now at 6 yards.
'Kottashi... Kottashi... Kottashi. God how I miss you...'
"Damnit all to hell Naruto! C'mon!" Sasuke had finally reached him, and since he still refused to pay him any attention, he went to sock him in the face.
"Eh? Oh, hi Sasuke, you weren't at the field and you know that means there's no training session." Naruto stated, easily dodging Sasuke's punch.
"I know, just follow me." He yelled.
"What for? So I can go into the village, and those people can stare at me like I'm some kind of disease?" Naruto asked, not really with resentment, but just a bitter sadness.
"How 'bout this, come with me, and ask questions later." With that, Sasuke grabbed Naruto by the collar and dragged him along, until he began running by himself.
Once they had entered the village, villagers immediately gave him that stare. Like he was some kind of disease. He didn't care anymore, he just followed Sasuke, standing up tall, chin up, so he could see all the stares. But he really didn't see the stares, no, he was so lost now-a-days, he saw naught of the stares. And then he heard it, that voice, the voice he'd been waiting to hear for so long, but was it real?
"You assholes, quit looking at him like that! Or I'll have my foot up your asses and make sure you regret staring at Naruto like that! Hell maybe I'll even make it so you never see anything ever again!" Bellowed the angry girl.
The villagers backed away from the wagon, "Calm down Otome, yeesh." Said her sensei, trying to calm the enraged kitsune.
"Kottashi..." Naruto whispered in a low raspy whisper, he wanted to believe she was there, but couldn't bring himself to believe it.
"Naruto!!!" Yelled the girl in excitement, she jumped down from the wagon and ran towards Naruto.
"It can't be you... “He said aloud, in his raspy whisper, but no one saw his lips moving.
"I can't believe I'm finally home. Naruto I missed you sooo much!" She stopped right in front of Naruto.
Something was definitely wrong, she could see it in his eyes, the pain she left him. The doubt she left in his heart, and the sorrow she left for him to deal with alone. Kottashi bit the inside of her lip, she just couldn't believe how hurt he looked. Not just how hurt, but he looked as if though he hadn't taken proper care of himself for the whole five years she was gone.
"Naruto, what happened to you? A-are you ok?" She looked at him with concerned eyes, it was like he had died on his feet.
"Kottashi..." It was hardly audible, but she picked it up, Naruto had said her name, but it was filled with sadness, and loneliness.
"Naruto I'm so sorry, but I had to leave." She hugged him tightly, tears streaming down her cheeks.
The streets had emptied, everyone had gone home, even Sasuke and Sakura. Everyone knew they needed time alone.
"Please say something Naruto, I know you must be angry with me, upset, and maybe you even hate me, but please, talk to me..." Her eyes widened, as she felt his arms wrap around her slender waist.
His eyes seemed to hold no warmth since she had left, he seemed like a soulless zombie walking around in an empty shell. Naruto's eyes were always glazed over, as though he was being controlled, or as if he'd given up all hope. His voice was raspy too, from lack of use, and from the harshness of the weather, but as soon as he held Kottashi in his arms, all that began to melt away, and the Naruto, at least most of the old Naruto began to resurface.
"Kottashi... I... I missed you too." He hugged her tightly, and buried his face in her shoulder, his voice was slowly losing the raspy touch, and became like it used to be, yet a little deeper sounding.
"Naruto... “She sobbed quietly, as she held him tightly.
"It's been too long Kottashi. Wa-a-a-a-ay too long." Naruto rubbed her back, trying to comfort the sobbing girl.
Deciding that the middle of the village streets wasn't the best place for their meeting, they left Kottashi's sensei in the dark and walked off towards the forest hang out.
Arashi's eye twitched, "This is nice, I, a great sensei, get no greeting what-so-ever? Someone of my caliber gets no slight attention?" Yeah that was him, he liked to pretend like he had a huge ego.
Kottashi now had her arm around Naruto's shoulder, once they got away from village sight, Naruto had a small break down. He began sobbing, and fell to the ground. She had helped him to his feet and held him close, then put her arm around his shoulder as comfort, and took over leading the both of them to the forest hangout. Once in the safety of the hangout, they both collapsed to the ground, like the trip had been long and treacherous. Kottashi began to sob again, Naruto held her close, letting his tears fall silently.
Holding her tightly once again, had made all those years of despair wash away, but only for the time, he knew that the memories would always linger, but knew that as long as she stayed with him, he would forget the pain. Being in his arms brought so many memories to mind for her. It reminded her of how he'd hold her when she was sad, or when a villager had tried to attack her. Even when she was sick he would sit there with her in his arms. So many fond memories, she had locked up in the recesses of her mind, now all released from her mind and her heart.
Naruto gently pushed her away from his embrace, just so he could look into her eyes. He could tell there was worry in them, but that worry had just been relaxed and now she was happy. Hell, he was happy too, but he couldn't help but stare into her piercing lavender eyes. It was like they pierced his own baby blue ones. She smiled at him, and wrapped her arms around him, burying her face in his chest, not really noticing or caring that she did so. Not like he was complaining, but they sat there for the greater part of 13 minutes.
Naruto breathed in her scent lightly, it was exactly the same, but stronger. She smelled of lilacs and cherry blossoms, he had missed that smell, and longed to capture that scent again. And now that she was finally back with him, in his arms, what was he to do now? He still wanted to know if she had heard his words, and opted to ask her, but she beat him to it.
"Naruto, when I left all those years ago, you told me something very big. But to you, I'm sure you must have thought I didn't hear. Well truth is, I heard it, but I tried to ignore what you said, I knew if I had acknowledged it... Naruto... I feel the same, I love you, with all my heart." She cuddled into his arms, "I don't know if you still feel the same, but I just couldn't tell you then because I just wasn't ready, to say an impossible goodbye, but if you still love me, then now you know I love you too."
Naruto tightened his grip around Kottashi, "Of course I still love you. And I understand, believe it or not I have gained wisdom while you were gone." He looked at her and gave her his old mischievous smile, the one she thought was so cute, and only when he did it.
Kottashi blushed, every time he gave her that smile, it made her blush, "I see. I can tell, you can't grow older without gaining wisdom, just by the sound of your voice you've grown, and um..." She coughed as she ran her hands over his chest, "Just by *cough* looking at you, I can tell you're ripped, you've been training, in so many ways I can tell." She giggled and blushed, and began mentally kicking her ass, now she couldn't stop running her hands over his chest.
Naruto blushed also, "Hehe, yeah, you've grown too, in more ways the one. Then again though, you've always been quite wise, you've always seemed to be one step ahead of me." He chuckled lightly, he would have run his hands acrost her chest but opted not to, because he knew she'd slap him and call him a hentai.
"Well, I'm still the same as I used to be pretty much really, still hyperactive, still annoying." She said smiling, now resting her head on his chest.
"You don't seem very hyperactive right now, far from, you seem a lot more mature." He pulled her from his embrace, held her shoulders, and gazed into her eyes.
She blushed and looked to the side, "I don't think so, I just haven't had any water to drink for a while."
"Doesn't matter, trust me Kottashi, I can tell, you're a lot more mature then when you left, and to tell you the truth, I'm actually mature for once too." He gave another mischievous smile.
Kottashi blushed and squeezed her eyes shut, "Will you quit smiling like that?! You're making me blush."
Naruto smiled wider, "Oh you mean this smile?" His mischievous smile/grin widened.
"Yes, that, now please quit it!" She yelled, balling her fists up, trying not to look into that grin, to tell the truth, every time she saw that grin, she wandered what it would be like to kiss him.
"Um, no I don't think I will, I like the look on your face, it's priceless." He smirked and the grin returned even wider.
"Naruto!! That's so not fair! I'm going to plaster your face with duct tape if you don't stop!" She threatened, but he knew it was an empty one.
"Oh yeah, I doubt that." He continued to grin, and moved behind her, so she would turn to look and see what he was doing. His plan had worked too, she opened her eyes only to see that grin, but this time she couldn't look away, "See, it doesn't look like you'd try it now." He chuckled, slowly allowing his heart to guide his lips towards hers.
"Not... Fair..." She stated, but before she could go on, his lips had met hers, in a soft but messy kiss, only at first though. Kottashi had wrapped her arms around his neck and brought him closer, deepening the messy kiss. With that, Kottashi fell over backwards, and Naruto fell overtop of her. He opened his eyes and blushed, he had never imagined being in this situation, but he loved every second of it. Kottashi was in the same state of mind, she had her doubts that Naruto still felt the same for her as he did those five years ago, but found that his feelings must have only intensified.
Naruto had closed his eyes again, and then separated from their kiss, and opened his eyes. He saw that the woman below him eyes were dazed, and she had a dazed smile. She half looked drunk, and half high. But in a good way if you could call being high and drunk good at all. Kottashi looked up into Naruto's eyes, she had to stop looking at him or she'd seriously tackle him. Desperately, she tried to wriggle her way out from under him, but felt herself being pulled up to her feet.
Blinking furiously, she had thought it was Sakura, but noticed that she was now in a loving embrace. Not the kinda embrace best friends of the same sex would give. After she stopped blinking, long enough to look, she saw she was in Naruto's arms. She giggled he had a funny smile on his face, kind of like the fox version of the cat face. He smiled at Kottashi, he was happy he could make her laugh, it would've been sad if he couldn't. He's the clumsy funny guy. Ok so he wasn't so clumsy now, but he used to be a real "ditzafrenic person." Or so Kottashi had put it. Yeah, she was the hyperactive, clumsy, happy, energetic, weird one. She always came up with new words and new phrases.
Kottashi continued to stare into his eyes, it had been a habit of her's since she first met him. The only thing they said was hi, and then she found herself entranced by his eyes. Like his swimming pools of baby blue were hypnotizing her. This reaction only seemed to cause the blond haired young man to grin wider. Yeah, he loved that look on her face it was really cute to him. The look was almost clueless, her mouth was slightly opened, and her eyes were wide, like she had just heard the most complex problem on Earth. A great silence ensued, and Naruto didn't feel like breaking the trance the green haired girl seemed to be in. He thought he'd just let her realize on her own that she's been staring for what now, oh um, say around, ten minutes, sad ne?
Naruto looked to the side of her lips, she was drooling she was actually drooling. He laughed, but Kottashi didn't come out of her daze, and then he heard, of all things... a small snore? And then the light breathing pattern that only came while asleep. It was so weird, she had her confused look, her eyes were open, yet she was asleep. He guessed she must have learned to sleep with her eyes opened while she was away training. Laughing again, he thought it was pretty cool. Looking around, he thought he should let her rest somewhere then thought that maybe Sakura would let Kottashi sleep at her house.
Sighing, he really didn't want to leave the quiet hangout, but he did, and as he walked, he closed Kottashi's eyes, so it actually looked like she was sleeping. Then he began his walk towards Sakura's house. Meanwhile, Sakura was wandering where the two had went, it had crossed her mind, that Naruto and Kottashi loved each other, but she still wanted to see her best friend.
-------------------------------------------
"Err!!! Why does that baka think just because he loves her, he can just whisk her away without letting her say hello to me after five years!? Err!!! WHAT A SENSELESS JERK!!!" Sakura was pissed, and Sasuke wasn't about to try and calm her down, "Damn you Naruto Uzumaki!!! DAMN YOU!!!!"
She stomped around her house, Sasuke now trying to calm her down. Sasuke held Sakura around her waist, his ebony eyes showing hardly any emotion. He told her to calm down. She relaxed in his arms, being in his arms always did that for her. Both of them then felt a strong chakra signature, there wasn't just one, but two of them. For a second, both thought Naruto must have made another shadow duplicate of himself. But then figured out that one was Kottashi's signature.
Both signatures were equal, but one emanated higher, flew over the land more willingly. It was Kottashi's, no matter what, she always let her signature roam the land, so she'd always be in nature, no matter what kind of state she was in. But when she was sneaking around, she held it all inside, not letting even an ounce escape, unlike the others. Sakura wriggled out of Sasuke's arms, and went to the door, and as soon as she touched the door knob, there was a knock at the door, and both signatures were right there.
Sakura opened the door to see Naruto holding a sleeping, drooling, lightly breathing kitsune girl known as Kottashi. Sakura instantly fell over, the hell did he do to put her to sleep? Sasuke looked out from over to the left, and blinked a few times. After this, he helped Sakura up, and she offered Naruto to put Kottashi on the couch, while she, Sasuke, and Naruto had a little talk. Sakura lead the two boys into her kitchen, and the three of them sat down.
A vein popped on Sakura's forehead, and she evilly whispered, "Why the hell do you think you can just waltz away with my best friend before I say hi? You could've let her talk to me first!"
"It's not my fault, she came to me first! Besides, I had a hard time believing she was actually there!" He yelled in a whisper.
"Calm down Sakura, I mean the man is in love you know." Entered Sasuke.
"You stay outta this Sasuke if you aren't gonna be on my side." Sakura gave him a death glare, sending chills down his back.
"Anyways, it wasn't like I could just say, 'go see Sakura first I plan on taking you somewhere more private.' “Whispered Naruto.
"I suppose, but couldn't you have waited till I at least said hi? Now I have to wait for her to wake up--" She stopped in midsentence when she heard a loud yawn.
"Up wake to whom for wait?" questioned a jumbled up Kottashi.
"Eh?" All three wondered at the same time.
In the archway of the door, Kottashi was leaning against the door frame, one eye half shut while the other was completely shut. Drool was trailing from the corner of her mouth, and her hair was in a mess of tangles. Yawning again, she blinked, this wasn't her kitchen. It wasn't even her doorway, and that certainly wasn't the table she had, nor was that window right behind a black flower. She saw Sakura, and two huge flowers sitting in chairs. She rubbed her eyes, thinking someone might have tried to drug her. When she opened her eyes again, there was Naruto in a chair closest to her, then Sasuke and Sakura next to each other.
"Oh hi guys! Long time no see ne? How have you guys been?!" She ran and hugged Sakura, and the pink haired girl gleefully hugged her best friend back, "My gawd, all you have grown so much! Scept, you all look the same, just taller." Sasuke and Naruto fell over.
"Oh thank you Kottashi, that's just what we were going for." Sasuke said, sweat dropping big time.
"Hehehe, naw, I think I've gotten buffer, but you Sasuke, are still a stick." Sakura and Kottashi laughed with Naruto.
"Hehehe, sadly, that's almost kind of true Sasuke." Agreed the pink haired girl.
"Hmm," Kottashi examined him, "No, he's buffer, but yeah he's still a skinny stick. He'sa dun gots no big muscles like Naruto over there." Naruto roared in renewed laughter, Sakura giggled, and Kottashi fell to the ground laughing.
"Always the butts of jokes aren't I?" Sighed Sasuke.
"Is only cuz you have no sense of humor." Smiled Kottashi.
"She has a point Sasuke, you never laugh." Sakura said giving him a puppy dog lip.
"Ha ha ha ha." He laughed sarcastically.
"Oh now wasn't that just so enthusiastic?" Sweat dropped Kottashi.
"You need to learn to laugh man." Commented the laughing blond.
"Aww, it's ok though, you don't have to laugh." Giggled Sakura.
"At least someone's on my side." Sighed Sasuke.
Sakura hit him upside the head, "I'm always on your side."
"Wow, only a few minutes together and it seems like I never left home." The room was quiet for a minute, Kottashi didn't know it, but it hurt them that she left, even Kakashi was sad she had left, it had hurt Iruka too.
"Yeah I guess." Entered Naruto.
It had been years ago, but everyone still remembered, they had conversations like this all the time. Somehow they'd end up talking about one of themselves, and making fun of something about them. The other's would agree and laugh, except for Sasuke, he'd just kind of stare. And then somehow everything always came to a long haul of silence, which was always broken by Naruto. This never ceased to amaze the friends, it always happened, and it still hadn't changed. It seems, no matter how long friends are apart, or how they change while apart, they all stay the same once they meet up in the same room and start old habits.
