Chapter One - It's so cold out here tonight

 

It was Sakura Haruno's fifth mission as a jounin; Tsunade had sent her and a few others to deliver a classified document to the hidden mist. The document entrusted to them was about an attack directed towards the hidden sound nation; they needed many allies to be able to start this ambush.

 

Sakura began to feel discomfort from the mention of the hidden sound, Sasuke's name kept repeating in her mind. Why must I think of him? Sakura shook her head sadly; He left us after all… We probably won't ever see him again… No matter where we search… Should we lose hope? Sakura stared up at the night sky; No. We will see him again no matter what! We won't let Orochimaru win! She felt more confident and her blood began to boil, “Let's head out! Remember the mission; we will protect this document with our lives!”

 

Four hours had passed and the jounin were not even half way to their destination. Damn… Sakura thought to herself; how much longer can we keep this up? We will have to rest eventually… She signaled the others to stop and take a break, “Listen, we need to rest. This area will do nicely considering it is a well hidden spot. Please, everyone, try to hide your chakra from others, we don't want to be disturbed by the enemy.” The other jounin agreed and began to settle in the area she had chosen. It was in the middle of a thick forest below the full moon. The moon brought back sad memories… Sakura soon fell asleep.

 

Flashback || Naruto was talking nonstop as usual while he slurped up his bowl of ramen, he was trying hard to cheer Sakura up but her thoughts kept going back to Sasuke. She couldn't keep Sasuke's secret from Naruto any longer, “Naruto…” Sakura began, “I should have told you this a long time ago… The reason Sasuke has been in pain so much lately is well… It's because of a curse seal. Orochimaru had bitten Sasuke's neck during the chuunin exams. Orochimaru kept saying that Sasuke would eventually come to him for power… do you think Sasuke would really…” Naruto let that idiotic smile play across his face, “Of course not! Sasuke would never accept such an invitation!” Sakura smiled at his response, “Thanks Naruto.” As time passed Sakura eventually said good bye to Naruto and started to head home. It was late and thought she wouldn't run into anyone but she was wrong. There was Sasuke near the village entrance, he had a pack with him and his face had shown a solemn expression. “Sasuke…?” Sakura began to walk towards him. “Sakura… you should leave. It's not safe to be out this late.” “Me? What about you? Where are you going? You really didn't accept that offer… did you?” Sasuke just walked past her without responding. “Please answer me!” Sasuke slowed his pace a bit “Stop interfering with my affairs.” Tears began to form in Sakura's eyes, “Why is that…?” “…” “Do you hate me…?” “…” “Back at this exact spot… when we were genins… I remember and I am sure you do too when I was talking to you about Naruto…” Her voice repeated in her head; Naruto is just annoying. I think it's because he has no parents. He never got yelled at by anyone. Yea that must be it... Sasuke just sighed, “I don't remember that.” “Oh… But I still don't see why… why you would want to go through with this… Revenge won't make anyone happy…” “I know that.” “I don't want you to leave! If you left me I would be lonely! I don't want you to leave here… please… If you left I would be nothing….” “From now on we shall follow different paths…” “Please… Sasuke… I love you with all my heart! I will do anything to make you stay! To make you happy! If you leave I will go with you!” Sasuke slightly turned and smiled at her, “You're really annoying.” Sakura's eyes widened, so he did remember after all… “I'll scream if you leave me!” Sasuke then faded only to be found behind Sakura now… silence was between the two for a moment until Sasuke finally said, “Thank You, Sakura.” He then knocked her out and left her on a bench below the full moon. || End Flashback

 

Sakura awoke in the dark forest; it's cold… why…? Is this a dream? No… She sat up only to find she was surrounded by sound shinobis. “Give us that document!” One sneered, “Or we will rip you to shreds like your teammates!” Sakura looked around her only to see blood… lots of blood… it was hideous… a massacre… No… no! This isn't real! It can't be! How could they have found us…? Why didn't they kill me like the others…? Sakura began to lose consciousness; she shook violently as her eyes rolled to the back of her head… Dead… Killed… Slaughtered… Murderers… It's so cold out here tonight… She soon fell to the ground in shock. Another shinobi began to speak, “She's unconscious… I say we have our way with her!” The shinobi smiled and stared at Sakura's face, “I don't see the harm in that.” The other shinobis began to laugh with him letting him know that it was fine with them. The world soon grew dark…
