Kat: Hmmm… I decided I'd redo my AU High School thing. I got blasted with plot bunnies, so… here ya go. I'm not gonna tell you the pairings, because there shall be many.
Naruto: God, will you make up your mind already?
Kat: :whaps him: Shut up. And relax. This is going to be fun.
Naruto: Maybe for YOU!
Kat: ^_^ Every once in a while, or maybe at the beginning of each chapter, I'll have a diary entry from each character. I like the idea. Okay. On with the fic!

Dear Diary,
Wow. Iruka gave me a diary today. That's so… weird. I'm a tough, macho, manly guy. Guys like me don't write in diaries. Whatever. I guess its okay, though, because we're kinda short on cash right now. I don't mind, but I probably won't write very much in you. You probably don't mind, either. I mean, how could you? You're an inanimate object! (I learned those words from Gaara. He called my brain that once.) I like waffles. Especially when they have chocolate chips in them. Iruka said he'd make them for breakfast tomorrow, but I don't know if he will, because we always wake up way late, especially on days like tomorrow. I'm sorry. I don't know why I'm writing this. I'm rambling. I do that a lot.
I think it's because I start high school tomorrow and I'm scared shitless.
Good Night,
Naruto

Naruto Uzumaki sighed as he closed the small red book. He dropped it, and the pen, onto his bedside table, and leaned back against the headboard. He put his arms behind his head, and closed his eyes. Was he really that nervous about starting high school? Yes, he was. But, the thing he couldn't figure out was, why? Iruka would be there. He taught freshman English. It was a comforting thought, knowing that Naruto would have someone there to talk to. There was always Gaara, of course, but talking to Gaara was like talking to a brick wall. A small, murderous, panda-eyed brick wall.
Naruto opened his eyes, and stared at the ceiling.
He was thinking too much. He never thought too much. He was reprimanded constantly at school for not thinking enough. He pulled his arms out from behind his head, and sank down beneath the blankets, flicking off the light on his table as he did. He ran a hand through his unruly blond hair, and tried to relax. Tomorrow would go just fine. Just fine.
He attempted to soothe himself with thoughts like, `I'm not the only one starting high school', and `You're being a pussy, calm down.' But, shockingly, none of this helped.
Maybe he should call Gaara. For some reason, talking to the darkly emotional teen always calmed him down. Gaara never seemed to talk back; he would just listen. Most of the time. Other times, he would turn on Naruto with a rye comment, like `Stop being such a pussy, calm down.'
Hm. Maybe Naruto was starting to think too much like Gaara. He rolled over, picked up the phone, and dialed Gaara's number. It rang twelve times before someone picked up.
“Hullo?” a tired sounding voice said.
“Is Gaara there?”
A pause, then, “Yeah, hang on.” There was a `CLICK' as the phone was set down.
Naruto swallowed.
“Yeah?” the phone said.
“Hey, Gaara, it's Naruto-“
“DO YOU HAVE EVEN THE FAINTEST CLUE WHAT TIME IT IS?!”
“Uh…” Actually, he didn't. “No… It's not like you were SLEEPING or anything, though, right?”
“…” There was a sigh, then, “What do you want?”
“Just… to talk.”
“About what?”
“Well,” Naruto said, “you know how we're starting high school tomorrow?”
“Yes.”
“Well… Are you nervous, at all?”
“… Why?”
“Just… curious.”
Naruto could practically feel the inner storm Gaara was having.
“… I guess so,” he said, hesitantly. “Again, why?”
“Well, I'm a little nervous, too.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
There was a long silence. Naruto feared that Gaara might actually have fallen asleep.
“Gaara?”
“I'm still here.”
“Thanks.”
“… You're welcome.”
“Good night, Gaara.”
“Good night.”
There was a `CLICK', then the dial tone. Naruto hung up the phone, and looked at the clock. It was eleven thirty.
“Oh…” he muttered. “No wonder he was mad.” He shrugged up the covers again, and laid back. “See, Stupid, you're not the only one that's nervous. Even Gaara's dying, or else he wouldn't have said anything. And besides, Iruka'll be there, and so will all those other people who you don't know, and the food's probably better than at the Middle School, or it probably isn't, but it'll be fine just the same, and you have nice, boring history to look forward to.” He was rambling to no one. Best to just got to sleep now.
Naruto shut his eyes, and, after another half-hour, he fell into a restless, fitful sleep.

Kat: Hmmm… I think I like this so far!
Naruto: I don't! I'm SCARED! I FEAR NOTHING!!
Kat: Right. Sure. Uh-huh. Yeah.
Naruto: -_-0
Kat: Well, thanks for reading. I'll try to have chapter two up ASAP, but give me some feedback, would ya? I don't know how appealing this is to everyone else out there in the Happy Place.
