Grand Summoning Jutsu
It was late afternoon, the sun was hanging low in the sky almost disappearing over the tall sand dunes surrounding the village. Maya sat at her desk her legs crossed bouncing it up and down to the rhythm of her correcting. She was marking the tests she had given last Friday on the life and times of Queen Cleopatra. so far the students seem to be doing quite well, the scores were above average, including the class clowns.
"miss Maya?" a quiet deep manly voice echoed through the auditorium. Maya lifted her eyes to find a tall, lanky boy with black hair walking down the steps from the back of the hall.he was in his early 20's she figured due to his facial features. he was dressed in mostly black and his heavy boots untied making a clunck with every step.
she lifted an eyebrow "yes?" she responded.
"I- I'm in your class, my name is.."
"Akira" she finished his sentence.
"yes, that's me"
"what can I help you with?" her warm smile seemed to relax his nervousness the closer he came to her.
"I was just wondering, I mean... I heard you could sing" he started.
"that is true, I suppose."
"at the Chunin Dinner, for lord Gaara"
Her eyes widened as she dropped her pen from her fingers, her legs stopped bouncing completely "how do you know about that?"
"the ninja that were there talk about it sometimes." followed the dark haired boy. "they say you have an amazing voice."
"you are not ninja, are you?"
"no, actually I am in a band. you know the artist type."
"I see" Maya followed her multicolored eyes along the young man. she knew where this was going "and what can I do for you Akira?"
"well you see, not being ninja we feel that we don't do much to help the village out. so we were thinking of putting on a benefit concert, and charge a small fee" he started. "we have a line up already, but we were waiting for our band to be set, to actually choose a date."
"you want me to sing?"
"I was hoping you would, the only thing is we do alternative, metal, rock stuff like that." he paused "but we have not found anyone who sounded good with the music we play"
"hum" Maya lifted herself from her set and took a step closer to the young man. "do you have the music and words to your songs?"
the man dropped his black backpack on her desk and opened it pulling out a black binder. in opening it a few sheets of music seemed to have a static cling sticking to the cover of the book. he pulled them off handing her a hand full of sheets with music notes and words written on the bottom of the bars.
her eyes fell to the papers as she played the tune in her head, reading the notes one by one imagining the cords. she hummed them out loud in her soft tone when the bar where the words had taken over "Feels like the weight of the world" she paused in her song "like God in heaven gave me a turn..."

Akira gave a wide smile hearing her voice recite the lyrics of his song. "wow, you really are good, that is exactly how it is suppose to sound."
"get your band together then, we can try this out"
she didn't even get to lift her head to smile at the young man before he dashed up the steps "we'll meet you in the music room down the hall" and disappeared closing the door behind him.

"Temari" Maya waved down her friend as she was walking down the halls of the school.
"hey what's up? are you ready to go home?"
"well, about that tell Kankie and Gaara I'm sorry but I have to stay a bit late this evening. they will have to find something to eat themselves." she panted after chasing her friend down.
"oh I'm sure I can get something ready for them" the blond smiled and pointed her finger in the air.
"ok, I need to go, I'll see you later ok!" with the last of her words Maya took off down the hall once again.
her sprint took her to the music room door, where the sound of instruments were being played randomly. she reached for the door nob and swung it open. 4 men turned their dark eyes to the tiny woman as she entered.
"hey miss Maya" Akira sat at his drum set lightly tapping the edge of it with his sticks.
"Maya is fine" as she made her way in the middle of the young men, one holding a bass guitar the other electric. the last man was sitting at a piano. "ok, lets try this shall we?"

The 5 sat in the room after they had practiced all the songs they had given their teacher. she was sitting on a stool with her legs crossed sipping on a hot tea.
"that was awesome" Akira spoke "now we can finally do this."
"when do you plan to do this for?" Maya pulled the hot cup further away from her lips and blowing slightly over the top.
"we were actually thinking of doing it on January 19th, if we ended up getting a singer."
Maya's eyes widened "WHAT? REALLY?!"
the 4 boys lifted their eyes to her from their slouched positions in surprise "is that bad?"
"no no! in fact, it's down right perfect" a smile swept across her face,~this will be his birthday present.~
"why do you say that?"
"because it's Kazekages' birthday that day"
"REALLY?" the boys also became shocked "we can put on the concert for him and invite people from the alliancing hidden villages" Akira spoke for the group. "this will be the biggest birthday party ever" he chuckled.
"sounds like an awesome Idea. I will have to talk to Baki, to see if we can get some help with preparations." Maya took another sip from her cup closing her eyes in relaxation.

The next day things went as normal, of course Kankuro had complained when Maya came home late last night because Temari had to do the cooking, he went on that he nearly died.
Maya stuffed a piece of toast in her mouth as she tucked her lecture books under her arm scooting down the halls to her class room. she had just come from Baki's office to ask for the aid in the concert, although she figured it would probably take a little longer to convince the stern uptight man into a musical concert for the Kazekages' birthday. but the convincing did not happen, because he found the idea wonderful and that it would give the other villages a chance to come and get to know them. he suggested the stage be built on the outside of the walls of the village to accommodate more people if needed. he mentioned he would assemble a team right away to start the building.
Maya reached her free hand to the door to enter in her class when she stopped, the toast dropped from her mouth looking at the paper sized flyer stuck to her door. "Benefit concert January 19th: Kazekage-sama's birthday party, Be there!"
"oh my God...." she hoped this was the only one, knowing full well Gaara wouldn't be too happy about this. of course the only people who knew his birthday was his siblings and they never celebrated it. "not good..." with that she swung the door open to see her students already to go for the mornings lesson.
little did she know that the flyers were all over the city, people reading in excitement at the birthday party they were going to have for their young Kazekage.

Despite all the papers found around the town, Gaara did not say much to her about it. he went about his usual self day to day, she figured he just didn't know (but how could he not) or that he just didn't care too much for it. She found herself staying late after school almost every night to practice with Akira and his friends, and would continue to do so until after the benefit.
"what do you think of this whole birthday thing" Maya heaved in relaxation from where she lay next to him, his arm wrapped around under her neck laying on his back. "thanks for telling me by the way"
"I don't know"
"I think it will be great" she was not going to tell him that she was actually included in one of the bands that was going to be performing she wanted to surprise him when she walked on stage.
"maybe"
"what kind of music do you like, then?"
"I don't really listen to music, I don't have time" he huffed out in a calm breath, his bare chest rising and falling to the rhythm of his breathing with Maya's arm sprawled across his chest. the moon shone a light blue through her window onto the both of them relaxing in eachothers arms."but I don't mind the stuff Kankuro listens to"
"what does he listen to?" she followed
"Metal, rock stuff like that"
a small smile curled over her mouth listening to the young man tell her what she wanted to hear. "that's what's going to be playing at this thing. I think you will have fun"
"I don't care really, but if you want to go then I will."
"I will go, it's your birthday after all"
This would give Gaara the perfect opportunity to take Temari's advice in taking his relationship with Maya to the next level. The day he had stopped her in the hall after she past his office, she helped him and gave him the confidence to finally show her how he really felt. she told him the timing must be right, he must not loose sight of what he was to do, no matter with the situation or how many people were around. He would have to push his embarrassment aside for Maya, just this one time.
