The sparkling sun rose above Konoha village otherwise known as the village hidden in the leaves. A pale skinned female stood on the roof of a house. She took a sip of her tea and headed inside.
“ Good Morning, Kakashi”she spoke softly.
“Manami? Up so early? What’s going on? Has the world come to a sudden end?” he joked.
Manami stood silent and placed her cup down on the kitchen table.
She hugged him,” I love you” not letting go of him immediately.
Kakashi chuckled,” There , there” patting her on the back.
Manami stood straight and sighed.
Kakashi looked confused,” Am I not getting something here?” he asked
She walked into the bedroom and took out her ANBU uniform. When she came back she spoke to him,” There is a war approaching. They called in ANBU-kitsune. That’s my team.”
Kakashi sat down on the bed. Silent. Manami dropped the clothing and walked towards him. She placed her hand on his cheek, and lay her lips on his. He slightly smiled and kissed her back. He opened his eyes.
“ I’m going too” he said,” Plus I haven’t been on a mission in a while” he grinned
Manami smiled,” Alright” she walked towards the door and opened it.
“I’m going to hand my form in”
“ Form?” he asked.
“ You know, the form you need to fill you just in case you die in battle. It’s just like the chunin exams”
He stood up and nodded following her out the door. They both walked through the village replying a kind “hello” to the greetings they were receiving from the villagers and shinobi in training. As they slowly made their way to Lord Hokages tent Manami took a deep breath. Today was the day her family was assasined.
On the day of December twenty-sixth five years ago.
“Konichi wa” she smiled at Lord Hokage.
Kakashi bowed.
The Hokage nodded,” please sit down” he spoke.
They both did as they were told. Manami took out the form and handed it to him.
The Hokage looked it over,” Great, we need you. Your team needs you.
Kakashi grinned,” Lord Hokage? I too would want to be in this, the war I mean”
The Hokage stared at him with grateful eyes.
“ Of course, we really need as many skilled shinobi as we can get”
Manami smiled and looked at both of them. The room fell silent for a moment.
The Hokage opened his mouth to speak, but a young shinobi messenger ran into the room. He looked around and sighed,” Lord Hokage, the enemy is approaching much quicker then we expected. We should get shinobi out there at least by nightfall”
The Hokage nodded and looked at Manami and Kakashi,” you heard him. Manami head out earlier and discuss the situation with your team.”
She nodded and rose to her feet.
As the day slowly passed Manami wished even more and more to tell Kakashi the man she married what happened to her family. It was harder then she thought. She stood in front of her mirror in her ANBU uniform and took out her mask..
“I’m the only one left in the Ayu clan.” she put on her mask and grabbed her weapons, which included a katana, kunai, and shuriken. She walked out of the room. She looked around for Kakashi.
She walked around the house.
Kakashi walked out with a box of kunai and shuriken.
“ Leaving already?” he asked
Manami nodded,” I have to” she then frowned.
“ Listen, the reason why I’m always in a weird mood each year at this time is because,” she paused,” my, my parents. No. My whole family was assassinated today. I never told anyone about this.”
He stood there and frowned.
“ Be careful” he kissed her.
She nodded and walked out. She has never been so afraid in her whole life in the ANBU.
Manami approached her team near the village gate.
“ Is everyone here?” she asked trying to sound as confident as she could.
They replied a weak,” yes”
She nodded,” we are dealing with a very powerful shinobi army here. We have to concentrate to the best of our abilities. Just hang in there everybody. Help each other.”
The gate opened.
Manami and her team walked out.
The night too was not prepared for the amount of bloodshed that might just occur. The truth is, no one really was. War is never pleasant.
Kakashi stood in front of the door. Nor he or Manami may ever come through that door again. But everyone takes chances, both Manami and Kakashi risk their lives each day as a shinobi of the village hidden in the leaves.
Kakashi nodded and made sure he had everything. He walked out the door and shut it. Midnight was approaching. The sound of footsteps was echoing through the night. The rest of the ANBU gathering together, socializing. The best thing to do before any war is to talk with others. Never concentrate on something you fear; it just makes you feel weaker. As the rest of the Kanoha shinobi entered the field ; the night sounds began to slowly fade.
Dawn was slowly approaching. The field was filled with occasional whispers. The opposing side was nowhere to be found.
Manami stood still,” ANBU-kitsune, if we don’t get out of this battle alive I just want to say all of you are truly amazing shinobi” she nodded and stepped out. She was in charge of making sure everyone was here. Manami walked down the horizontal line nodding. When she got to the far right section only one person caught her eye. Kakashi. She gave a little nod and cleared her throat.
“ As you can see the opposing side is not present at this time. I suggest all of you socialize or think of something that makes you happy. It could be anything: food, an object or a person Thinking of what you fear is not going to help you. Concentrate when your in battle. At the moment you must conserve your energy. All of you are very skilled and brave shinobi. I bow down to all of you” she did as she said. Bowing to the shinobi army in front of her.
Kakashi smiled. Manami, his Manami was up there.
Manami walked back to her spot with her team and took a deep breath.
A sudden silence filled the field. The enemy was approaching at last. As they made it closer and closer they stopped. Like every war there was a moment of silence before the bloodshed began. One Shinobi from the opposing side stepped out. He looked around.
“ On this day five years ago-“ he began.
Manami whimpered behind her mask.
“ we have assassinated the Ayu Clan. All of them except one female. Manami is her name. If I am correct she also is here today. As the rest of her family she is probably hiding behind a mask in the ANBU.”
Kakashi cursed under his breath.
The shinobi grinned,” So, we will kill every ANBU standing on this field today!” The mans side started running towards the Konoha shinobi. Manami took out her katana and started running with the rest of her side.
The war began.
