Sasuke held the necklace tightly in his hand, making sure that it was deep enough in his pocket so there was no chance of anyone seeing it. He had a sneaking suspicion he was being paranoid, but most of the things Kyuubi owned were either illegal, deadly, a combination of both, or something that hundreds of people worldwide wanted.
Early this morning, Naruto had left with Kiba to go `shopping', though Sasuke was positive that was a cover-up, because when he'd told Naruto to just say that he couldn't say where they were going, Naruto floundered around like a fish out of water for a good five seconds before Kiba towed him out the door. As usual, Gaara had gone with them to stay within two feet of Naruto at all times.
In one pocket was a shopping bag from a local grocery store, and in another pocket was Naruka's black shirt and capris.
The second Sasuke was sure that no one was watching him, he slipped into a back alley and pressed himself against the back wall. He pulled the necklace from his pocket, and with one last quick glance around, slid it over his head. It came to rest on his collarbone, and in a puff of smoke, his eyes felt suddenly that much closer to the ground. It would take a while to get used to Sasuke's and Sasuka's height differences, there was a good head and shoulders diversity between his two bodies.
Sasuka looked around again and stepped out of the shorts that had crumpled around her feet due to their difference in waist sizes and pulled Naruka's clothes from the pockets. She yanked of her own shirt and pulled the new ones on, taking the shopping bag from her pocket and throwing Sasuke's clothes into it. She pulled out the sneakers she'd borrowed from Hinata, who was her size, and slid them on.
Sasuka stood and combed through her hair with his fingers as she walked out of the alley, hanging the bag around her arm.
She glared murderously at every guy whose gaze lingered on her even a second longer than it should have, despising them for doing what Naruto should have been.
I did not just think that. Sasuka snarled at herself and veered sharply into a clothing store, looking around for things that looked like they would be in her size.
“Can I help you?”
Sasuka turned to the employee, her eyes narrowing slightly at the way he was gawking at her, or more specifically, at the inch of her stomach that was visible because of Naruka's shirt. Naruka had said something about not being as restricted by girl's clothing when it was short because it was usually tight, but Sasuke still thought it was too short.
“I'm looking for size one clothing.” Sasuka said in a clipped tone. Quit fucking staring at me.
“Ah, of course, if you'll follow me…” he led her back to a small rack by the counter. “Everything you should need is here, we have some of the best selection of clothing at the best prices, if you need any help---”
“I'll be fine.” Sasuka cut him off, setting down her bag to finger through the selection of shirts. The man paused for a moment before returning to the counter, though he never stopped watching her.
Sasuka forced herself to ignore him and continued to search, eventually choosing a shirt and skirt that didn't look too constricting and walked to the dressing rooms.
“If you need anything---” the employee tried again.
“I wont.” Sasuka cut him off again, stepping through the curtain and choosing a dressing room, making sure the lock worked on the door.
Sasuka stripped and pulled on the navy blue t-shirt and black, knee-length, tiered skirt she had picked out, twisting around in the mirror to make sure the boxers she was wearing weren't showing. Sasuka frowned, she really needed a bra.
Half an Hour Later
Sasuka walked down the street shooting more glares at people then she ever had before, well, she'd only looked more intimidating when Sasuke and Naruka had gone on their first date and the sex-driven make whores on the streets kept staring at Naruka. His Naruka.
She was wearing the new black skirt, navy blue, v-neck t-shirt and the low-heel sandals she'd bought, as the flip flops or whatever people called them were going to rub the skin on her toe off.
Next stop, the hairdresser's. Sasuka turned into an alleyway to take the back way just to get out of the staring eyes of every man on the streets. Fucking creepers.
“Can I help you?” a woman stepped up to her the second she'd walked in the door, like she'd been waiting by the door all day for someone to walk in. She blew a huge bubble with her gum and popped it right in Sasuka's face.
“I need you to take off a few inches.” Sasuka pulled on her hair. “And put in some bangs.”
“You're really going to cut all your hair off?” the woman scoffed, clearly disapproving. “I'd kill for your hair.”
You'd kill for a dog's hair. Sasuka thought bitterly, looking at the woman's unwashed, uncombed and died hair. Needless to say, the combination wasn't attractive.
“Well, fine, sit down.” the woman waved her hand lazily towards a chair.
Sasuka moved warily to the chair and sat, starting to have second thoughts about this woman cutting her hair.
The woman moved over behind her and pulled out a comb and a pair of scissors. “You want it to your chin?” she asked around her gum.
“That's fine.”
“And bangs to here?” the woman touched Sasuka's eyebrows. “It'll look better a little longer, just to your eyes, but some people like them short and out of the way.”
“Do what you think.” Sasuka said quickly, trying to get this over with as fast as possible, she didn't know when Naruto was going to be back, and she wanted to beat him to it.
The woman shrugged and picked up her comb. “Alright.”
Sasuka watched her hair fall away behind her, and at first, the large amount scared her that the woman was cutting off too much, but she forced herself not to say anything. Heckling someone behind you with sharp scissors while you were virtually wide open was not a good idea.
The woman moved to stand in front of her and Sasuka scowled at the fact that she could no longer see the mirror.
A good twenty minutes later, the woman finally moved, and Sasuka had to admit that she looked good, and she was happy that she looked more like her guy side with short hair. The woman might not have taken care of her own hair, but she knew how to style other people's.
“What do you think, honey?” the woman messed with her bangs a little bit.
Sasuke rose and turned towards her, pulling out her wallet. “Its fine, how much do I owe you?”
“Ten dollars flat rate.” The woman held her hand out, blowing another bubble with her gum.
Sasuka pulled out the money and placed it in the woman's hand, turning for the door after grabbing her bag.
“Oh, wait.” The woman called out suddenly, rooting around in a small box on the counter. She turned back to Sasuka and tucked one side of her hair behind her ear, using a blue clip to pin it in place, then she spun Sasuka towards the mirror.
“Look good?” she asked over Sasuka's shoulder.
“Yes, thank you.” Sasuka pulled out of her grip and walked towards the door, ready to get the hell back to the school already. She touched the clip once more on her way home, and smiled to herself. I wonder how Naruto will freak out when he sees Sasuka standing there.
An Underground Bar Somewhere in the Suburbs
Kyuubi pushed her way roughly through the crowd, Shukaku right at her side. The people saw them, and one by one, went silent, stepping back to let the two pass. Kyuubi shoved open the rusty door of the back room, the light momentarily revealing two other people in the room. One wore a headband to the side and bandages over his face to hide his identity, and the other in comparison was just a child, with long black hair, with two locks draping in front of his shoulders, but his other hair was tied up in a bun.
Shukaku closed the door softly behind him and joined the other three at the table.
“Haku, go get the light.”
“Yes Zabuza.” The boy rose and stepped quietly over to a small lamp on a nearby table, flicking it on and illuminating the room with a soft yellow glow that cast sinister-looking shadows on everyone's face.
“Any new jobs?” Shukaku leaned forward almost excitedly.
“Two.” Zabuza motioned for Haku to go get something with a quick jerk of his head.
“I need a lackey.” Shukaku mumbled, leaning back in his chair as Haku brought a large folder, overfilling with papers, to the table and set it down in front of Zabuza.
“Gaara would be thrilled to tag along with you.” Kyuubi said in a monotone voice.
“I'm not condemning my little brother to a life of killing.” Shukaku protested hotly.
“Do you even know your little brother? He's going to thrive off of killing someday.” Kyuubi rolled her eyes.
“Would you let Naruto tag along with you if he liked to inflict pain on others?” Shukaku asked smugly. Kyuubi's eyes narrowed and a small growl rolled off her tongue.
“One is the leader of a company,” Zabuza interrupted, “their rivaling companies want him bumped, and the other is a wife her husband wants knocked off so he can be with this other girl. We had another offer, but it was just some nut-job asking us to kill Orochimaru.” Zabuza chuckled, a deep and menacing sound. “I told him that he had to find Orochimaru first, and then contact us---”
“What?” Kyuubi barked, shooting up out of her chair and slamming her hands onto the table. Her three business partners remained unfazed and completely at ease, used to her normal outbursts of anger.
“I told him that he had to find Oro---” Zabuza began deliberately slowly.
“Orochimaru's back?” Kyuubi growled, her fingernails gouging large scars in the wood of the table.
“You haven't heard? Rumors are floating everywhere, says he attacked the Uchiha's again. Succeeded except for two.” Zabuza leaned back lazily in his chair, putting his feet up on the table.
Kyuubi blinked once, and charged for the door, wrenching it open and flying out into the crowd of people.
“Is she alright?” Haku asked quietly, watching the door as it swung slowly back shut.
“It's just that damn brother of hers again.” Zabuza growled, flipping the folder open and shoving it across the table to Shukaku.
“If Orochimaru is back, and he already attacked the Uchihas, but missed two…” Shukaku said to himself under his breath.
“What now?” Zabuza asked in aggravation.
“…Then that means that he'll be back for Sasuke, and Naruto is in danger because of Sasuke, and that means…” the dirty blonde murmured.
Shukaku closed his eyes and tried to calm himself before giving up a bolting for the door, knowing full well that Kyuubi wouldn't bother taking care of Gaara as well as long as Naruto was safe.
Zabuza sighed loudly and pulled the folder back in front of himself as the door slammed. He stood, shutting the folder and slipping back into their bag. “The jobs are easy, they pay high, and if Kyuubi and Shukaku are forfeiting, that means more pay for us.” He smiled wickedly at Haku, who smiled in return.
Meanwhile
Sasuka stood eagerly outside the high school, leaning against Konoha's main gate, waiting for Naruto and everyone else to come back.
The clip hadn't left her hair, no matter how many times she'd tried to convince herself to loose it, and she was dressed in the outfit she'd picked out earlier. Blue t-shirt, black skirt, sandals, bra and all. Sasuka grimaced and adjusted the annoying fabric again. Sure, bras were helpful for support, she would admit, but they were still a pain in the ass to wear.
She looked up—not eagerly, Uchihas were never eager for anything—but she did look up to the unmistakable sound of Naruto's loud voice in the distance. Judging by the echoing, the wind and the volume Naruto usually spoke at with Kiba, they weren't very far away, because Naruto was really loud.
Sasuka looked down again as Naruto came into view, walking in his trademark fashion, backwards and with his hands folded behind his head. He was jabbering away to Sai, Kiba, Shino, Neji, Shikamaru, Choji and Lee. Lee was, as usual, booming across the entire distance between them, so Sasuka could hear every syllable in his words.
Sasuka leaned back against the gate, tucking one foot behind her ankle and folding her hands behind her waist, so she was leaning on them, carefully watching Naruto out of the corner of her eye as she pretended to watch the birds bringing food to their new chicks.
Out of the corner of her eye, Kiba caught sight of her at the same time as Lee, promptly crashed into each other and fell flat on their faces on the pavement, popping back up a second later to stare at Sasuka.
“What?” Naruto asked everyone, turning so he could see what everyone else could.
Sasuka couldn't identify the expression on his face as he froze. Horror? Confusion? Denial? It was possible. If Naruto had fallen in love with Sasuke, and all of a sudden Sasuka showed up, what did that do between him and Sasuke?
Sasuka smirked mentally, wondering if she should enjoy this and let her blonde flip his blessed lid, but she decided to let him breath in the end and pulled one of her hands out from behind her to finger the necklace.
Almost immediately, or as soon as it clicked with Naruto, relief washed over his face like a waterfall and an outrageously excited expression instantly replaced it.
“Is that…?” Kiba pointed at Sasuka. “But then what about…? Were we wrong about Sasuke this whole time? Did the Uchihas have twins this life? We never did ask who his brother was, maybe Sasuke is Itachi's son and Sasuka is still his sister?” Kiba muttered to himself.
Sasuka took that moment to turn toward the group and `meet' Naruto's eyes for the first time this life. A smirk formed on her face, and grew exceptionally when she saw Sai standing behind Naruto, looking like he was about to commit a homicide.
She was originally going to act like a true Uchiha, and wait for Naruto to come to her, like any other Uchiha would do, but for some reason, when she looked into Naruto's sky blue eyes, all of her rationalizations flew out the window. Out of nowhere, she didn't give a damn where her heritage came from, her father's disapproving face was shoved away into the back of her mind, and her smirk broke into a grin for the first time since she was… probably six, in her previous life yet.
“I didn't know she could smile, I thought she was too cold.” Sai said stiffly, trying to get Naruto's attention away from Sasuka. It didn't work, though that wasn't shocking in the slightest.
Naruto was right, it was something about the emotions a girl had, about not leaving babies around or whatever, but whatever it was, it made her just want… Naruto. And now. The necklace had taken Sasuke's calm and collected, genuine Uchiha face, thrown it out the window and let it smash into a million pieces on the ground below.
She'd read something about it somewhere, maybe in science, but girls often craved human contact more than boys. Sasuka honestly thought it depended on the person you were coming in contact with, but it was definitely a stronger want as a girl. More powering… driving almost.
Sasuka couldn't wait, they were taking too long to get to her. Smile on her face, she took off, sprinting for Naruto. He looked surprised, which was to be expected considering he'd never seen this coming from her before, but looked in no way against it at all.
Sasuka flew into his arms, jumping up and wrapping her legs around his waist as he held her, smashing their lips together and not giving a flying fuck who saw them, especially not Sai. He could go to hell in a little pink hand basket tied with a ribbon for all she cared.
“You think she missed you?” Kiba joked, thumping Naruto on the back as they broke free of each others' mouths to breath.
Sasuka's eyes flicked around quickly, reading everyone's expression. Good, it looks like only Gaara figured it out, actually, Neji too. Maybe he knows about this type of crystal, but no one else seems to know… we're off the hook for now.
