Chapter 2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shino walked very slowly back to his apartment. He really wasn't sure that it wise to leave his two teammates alone. Even though Hinata had assured him that nothing would happen, the bug-nin was still uneasy because he knew that they both shared feelings for each other. Compared to Hinata's crush on Naruto, she kept her new infatuation with Kiba very well hidden. If Shino didn't spend so much time with his two teammates he would have never caught on to the fact that they liked each other. Unfortunately, the Hyuuga heiress was engaged and Shino was very protective of her reputation. He had approached her weeks ago to warn her against acting on such feelings, knowing that sometimes an animal that was about to be caged would fight harder to remain free…it was her fate to be confined to a life of duty to her own and the Uchiha clans.
Shino wished more than anything that it the situation could be different for his friends, because he truly wished for nothing more than their happiness. Sometimes it hurt being the realist of the group. Hinata was the dreamer and Kiba was the fighter, those two personalities combined were about the farthest thing from a realist that you could get. Shino grumbled to himself and stopped walking when a lone member of his bug's colony that he had sent to watch over the two returned with information. Shino turned and started heading in the opposite direction toward his teammates…he sighed to himself and thought about how he was going to kill them both. For once he was actually more pissed at Hinata than he was at Kiba, because he had specifically instructed her to avoid what was happening at this very minute. It didn't mean that he wouldn't give Kiba a good pummel for moving in on the engaged Hyuuga, it just meant that the one person that so rarely disappointed him had let Shino down.
+++++++++++++++
Kiba knew that Hinata had stopped crying, so he should have let go of her. The embrace between them remained as Kiba couldn't find the strength to let her go. Kami help him, he wanted to hold her tighter…to kiss her…to make her run away with him far from the entire situation. Hinata had moved her head back a bit, slipping away to look upwards, but not pulling from the embrace. Kiba gulped down the lump in his throat as their gazes met, it was too much…he couldn't stop himself.
Hinata hadn't even realized what was happening until Kiba's lips were on hers. It wasn't her first kiss, Sasuke had actually tried this with her one night after they had announced their engagement, but it turned awkward and she just told him goodnight and left. Sasuke's kiss had been hard in comparison, perhaps a little needy.
Kiba's was nothing like her first time, it wasn't forceful or hungry, just the most gentle and warm feeling that Hinata could have ever imagined. Her body tingled from her head all the way to her toes as she let herself appreciate how wonderful the sensation of doing this with someone you care about could be. She noticed as Kiba pulled her tighter and his lips quivered just a bit as they settled into the crevices of her own. Then Kiba murmured soft words against her mouth that made her tears return and her heart ache with a new ferocity, he was begging her not to marry Sasuke. Kiba leaned his forehead against hers and pleaded to her in breathy whispers, “Please…please don't marry him, Hinata…please...”
She couldn't help but to sob again, it wasn't fair. Her hands that had been laid on Kiba's chest balled into fists and Hinata pounded them fastidiously against him in frustration. Two droplets of wetness fell onto her forehead and ran down to mingle with her tears. It was at this moment that she realized that Kiba's body was shaking and he was gritting his teeth hard. The worst part of it all was that he was crying, shedding tears of frustration just like she was. “Kiba…” she managed to force out.
“Please don't marry him. I know…” the words choked in Kiba's throat, but he forced them out anyway, “I know that you don't love him Hinata and he doesn't love you either, but I do…I love you.”
Hinata was shocked. Had Kiba just confessed that he loved her? Without thinking she pushed her way up to his face and captured his lips with hers, cupping his cheeks as she told him between each fleeting touch of their mouths that she loved him also. This continued until Hinata allowed kiss to deepen and the two engulfed each other with a passion that made their knees week and their stomachs queasy. When Hinata opened her mouth to suck in a much needed breath Kiba's tongue invaded and took her by surprise. He lapped and massaged her tongue with his own and Hinata moaned against the action.
Still wrapped in the embrace the two slowly shuffled away from the middle of the street. Though it was very late and the town seemed empty, they knew better than to rely on luck to keep it that way. It would only take one passerby to start the rumor mill. Kiba pulled Hinata back into an alleyway and continued his deep ministrations that elicited breathy sounds and murmurs from the shy kunoichi. The tears were gone…all that was left now was the passion that had been buried deeply within themselves hoping that it would stay hidden. Stupidly, they had allowed their desire to be unearthed. Kiba pushed Hinata against a wall of one of the alley's buildings, crushing her body between the stone behind her and himself. The dog-nin growled as he pulled away from the kiss and buried his head in her shoulder, nuzzling her and suckling on the base of her neck until he placed one sharp bite above her collarbone. Kiba realized that he was starting something that he would not be able stop, but he couldn't help himself…he wanted her, all of her.
+++++++++++
Shino cursed as he found himself halfway to the bar with no signs of either of them. He had run most of the way despite his exhausted body. The bug-nin should have met up with them already…unless they made a detour. He was going to definitely kill them both, there was no doubt in his mind. Two more drone bugs returned and his attention focused on a nearby alley…dammit! He got there just in time to see the beginnings of some very heavy petting as Kiba had his hands under Hinata's shirt and he was thrusting himself against her thigh. Was Kiba…dry humping her? Shino shook his head, this was going to be awkward, but he didn't have any choice. Though normally quiet and reserved, this was not the time to act so, Shino had to put a stop to this immediately!
“What in the hell do you two think you are doing?” Shino forced himself to shout at them.
The startled dog-nin jumped at the sound of someone's voice. Kiba used his body to block Hinata, hoping that he could shield her identity from whoever had caught them. His mind was too lost in lustful thoughts to recognize his own teammate's voice, he only growled protectively as he held Hinata against himself. Kiba's head turned and incisors that were unusually large for a human man were bared and snarling at the one that had intruded on their private moment. It only took a second to realize who it was and Kiba's face slacked and turned to embarrassment as he squeaked out, “Shino?”
“What in the hell were you two thinking?” Shino defiantly walked up to the couple and pulled them apart. Pointing accusingly at Hinata he began his lecture, “You are engaged and I warned you tonight that this might happen. I warned you!”
Kiba laid a hand on Shino's shoulder to let him know that he needed to back off. That was fine because Shino was ready to chew out the canine idiot that had almost deflowered one of the most important females in their village in a dirty back alley.
“And you…you stupid, foolish man,” Shino quietly growled. No more words would express Shino's anger at Kiba, he let his fists do the talking and sent the dog-nin flying to the ground. “Do you realize what you were going to do?”
Kiba rubbed his sore jaw and glared up at Shino, “Yeah, I realized what we were doing. I'm not stupid.”
“Somehow I beg to differ,” Shino quipped. “Hinata has already been inspected by the female elders and they know that she is intact. Sasuke would have been able to tell on their wedding night that she was not as promised, and that is grounds to have the marriage annulled if Hinata isn't still a virgin. I have no doubt that the Hyuuga's would disown her after such a thing. You would have ruined her life for a single selfish, passionate moment. That most definitely makes you stupid.”
Kiba couldn't argue…it was true. He recognized that Hinata would have willingly allowed him to take her, but knowing her she would have followed through with the marriage to the Uchiha. Further, Sasuke was just enough of a stubborn bastard that he might have called her on such a technicality, and probably would have had the marriage annulled. He remained on the ground and mulled the situation over in his head. There wasn't anything he could really do, except…
“Marry me instead, Hinata,” Kiba asked as he looked at her with a completely earnest expression. He was absolutely serious…the dog-nin wanted nothing less than to spend the rest of his life with the woman that he loved. During his younger teen years Kiba was notorious for having a slew of lovers, but that had slowed to a trickle recently. When it was time to take a life-mate the Inuzuka clan were known to be fiercely loyal…and Hinata was his choice, the one that he wanted.
Hinata moved to speak, but Shino cut her off. “You cannot propose to an engaged woman, she is already spoken for. And even if she were to say yes, her father would say no. This is a hopeless battle, Kiba. Give it up before you hurt each other more than you already have.”
Hinata tugged at Shino's coat until she got his attention, “He has not hurt me in any way, Shino. I want this as much as he does. I don't want to marry Sasuke…I want to be with Kiba.”
Shino looked at her with wide eyes hidden behind dark shades, “Are you insane? They will disown you.”
“Then I will begin a new life with the man I love. I have not received support from my father for many years other than him telling me what I must and mustn't do. He cares more about the great Hyuuga's than my happiness, so I don't really care about what he thinks,” Hinata said with as much courage as she could muster.
“Hinata, I know that the Hyuuga's are important to you as well. Don't do this just to spite your father…your family cannot handle any more splintering. This could be devastating to your clan,” Shino warned. He couldn't believe Hinata's attitude toward the situation, he had never known anyone that had been as duty driven as she. Now, the young woman was relenting from her obligations…something that Hinata never did.
“You are right, Shino. I can't allow my family to crumble.” Shino was so glad to hear this, Hinata's senses were returning. Perhaps it had only been because she was caught up in the moment.
Unfortunately, the bug-nin wasn't prepared for what she was going to say as she continued. “My family is cracked and splintered because of my father and a few elders that have decided that blood talents are more important than the people within our family. I have seen it hurt Neji, my sister, and so many others; but no more. I am going to change that. I am Hinata Hyuuga, the rightful heiress to the Hyuuga clan. If my father doesn't agree I will challenge him for clan leadership, because this pain will end here. I will not put another generation through what I am going through.”
Shino and Kiba were taken aback by Hinata's words. Never had they seen her be so bold, though it had been hinted throughout the years that such strength flowed in her veins, it only took a little pushing and prodding to bring it out. Shino shook his head, because there was no changing her mind. When Hinata decided on something she could be just as stubborn and determined as Naruto…a trait that he was sure she had learned from the blond during the chunin exams so many years ago. The lesson was that you don't give up…you fight for the things that are important.
“Will you two go with me to talk to my father? I will need your support if I'm to do this.” Hinata's ivory eyes pleaded with her teammates. “But first I need to speak to Sasuke. He is reasonable and I believe that he will also be on my side.”
The two nodded, they had no choice. They were a team, and when one of them needed assistance it was just natural for the others to follow and help. Kiba grinned and got up from the ground where he was still sprawled. He grabbed Hinata's hand in his and the three began walking toward Kiba and Hinata's original destination…toward the tavern where many of Konoha's elite shinobi hung out. Sasuke would most likely be there.
Kiba turned his head toward Hinata as they walked and asked her quietly, “Does that really mean that we're engaged? Because that is what I hope it means.”
Kiba rubbed his sore jaw and glared up at Shino, “Yeah, I realized what we were doing. I'm not stupid.”
“That means that you are my fiancé,” he told her while grinning. Kiba brought her hand that he held in his up to his lips, kissing it lightly. He had never felt so happy in his entire life. He had won over the woman that he loved…if only that was even half the battle.
