Why the city streets were so crowded here was unknown. Men with their finely dressed ‘lady friends’ laughed as they walked to cobble stone path. Sandals clicked furiously against the stones, raising into the sky, lost to the gods. She huffed, her hair slicked into a high, tight bun that was slightly bouncing as her body shifted. A smile crept across her face as a large, finely built building, it’s tiled roofs raising high into the blue sky. She pulled out a long piece of wood, her name written sloppily upon it in an almost illegible kanji. She smiled as she ran down the hallway, her socks sliding on the polished wood. Music from a shamisen came from behind a plain screen, shadows of woman and their guitars were all that was seen through the thick paper. She finally slid to a halt before a room, it still seemed empty although music was playing. The screen was slid open and the young girl stepped inside.”Kurenai-chan! Your early this morning, what a nice change.” Clapped her teacher, her blue kimono waving about her wrists as her hands made contact. Kurenai smiled and bowed before standing in the back of the room. A few other girls her age stood there, their dark blue kimonos embroidered with the village “bird”. Kurenai observed her own Kimono, never had she worn such a finely made article of clothing. She lifted her arms, although her sleeves were tied back, she could picture them fluttering about her small pale wrists. The woman, well teacher, clapped again as the room began to fill. The girls, including Kurenai, all assembled into lines as music began to play. Each one’s movement matched the others, as if they were moving as one. Finally the music stopped and the students bowed and exited the room. The day continued with singing, dancing, tea ceremonies and other skills a Geisha must possess. Until finally, it was time to return to the Okiya.

At the Okiya
Her loud voice echoed through the house as did the smell of sake and fish. Kurenai silently slid the gates and screens shut, she figured her “mother” Anko was arguing with Ino again. Kurenai silently made her way up to her small room, if you could call it that.He Okiya in general was small, Kurenai’s room wasn’t even big enough to use as a closet to store kimono’s, yet she loved it’s walls for blocking out the racket. Nothing good came from listening into the arguments, in fact, it was beat worthy. Mother had a wooden stick, and Kurenai had felt it’s wrath only once before. She rubbed her backside, remembering the sound of the wood crack against her flesh then her own shriek echo into the air. She decided no one would know, and pressed her head to the wall. The accents were strong, and it was hard to hear every single word that was being fired, in fact all she could tell was that the argument was over powder. Kurenai sighed, it must have been the powder Tsunde-sama gave mother at their last meeting.Thinking of that name, Tsunde, made Kurenai shiver. The woman was as indestructible as she was famous. Acquiring a danna at age 20 and having her mizuage sold at age 18, yes she was a living legend. Kurenai stared into space, wondering if she’d ever be such a wonderful Geisha, yet somehow she doubted her skills, of course she wouldn’t, she had started Geisha school much to late, and was so far behind the other girls, there was absolutely no way. Somehow she managed to keep some hope that one day, she would become a magnificent Geisha, and like Tsunde, have a danna. Little did she know, her dreams would soon be turned into a reality.
..:://Many times before I had heard mother talking about it, well her and father talking about it. They discussed me becoming a danna, even if it’s just a young Maiko. In fact, I’ve overheard my father use the distasteful word mizuage. I can’t stand the word, it’s meaning, and what is was referring to. Mizuage is the ritual in which a Miako’s virginity is taken by the man who places the highest bid for it. Now, every man my age, and older, wants to bid for mizuage, I don’t. Although the only reason my parents discuss this is because of my unsocial behavior and my current disposition towards the human race in general. Somehow I think my trip to the Tea house tomorrow will be a most undesirable one.Itachi Uchiha

Back at the Okiya
“Kurenai ” The name echoed from the upstairs of the Okiya. Soft patters of socked feet running over the wood floor. Raven hair was tied high, bouncing with every step.“Kurenai Kurenai ”Long fingered hands grabbed a ladder and began to roughly climb up. She ran into Kaasan’s room, only to be greeted by the fowl smell old fish. She gagged slightly, Kaasan had always kept her plates, and the smell was unbelievably horrid. Kurenai managed a half fake smile and bowed as mot- Anko looked her desk. “Took you long enough girl”“Forgive me kaasan.”Anko looked at Kurenai, her bow was beautiful and weightless, as a Geisha’s should be. She let the corner of her mouth lift into a smirk. She stood up, a bamboo stick in hand. “Stand” wasa all she ordered.Kurenai obeyed and stood as Anko searched her down. Finally she stopped rustling her hands through Kurenai’s kimono and took a step back. Kurenai kept her head tilted towards the ground as Anko spoke.“You will accompany your Onee-san (Ino) to the tea house, there you will meet Lord Uchiha and his son, Itachi. The young man is your age and I hear he’s looking to become someone’s danna.” Kurenai’s eyes lit up, she kept her face straight, all the while resisting the urge to jump up and down. She bowed again before opening her mouth.“Anko-san, he will become my danna.” She said, her voice full of confidence that matched her eyes. Anko waved her hand to excuse the girl, who walked out. As soon as the door shut she made her way to find Ino, they’d pick out Kimono’s for tomorrow. Can it get anymore exciting ? Tomorrow I meet the man who’ll be my danna I also get to go and entertain as a Geisha for the first time I hope I don’t mess up. Yet there’s one thing I fear.Mizuage, I don’t know if I want to take that step, and who will I lose it to?Help me gods, I’m scared.—Kurenai
