Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ Intel ❯ Training Begins ( Chapter 2 )
At the training field Naruto waited. The air was still and the trees were calm. Birds could be heard chirping in a nearby tree. Naruto took in a deep, long breath exhaling it slowly. The sound of a snapping twig gave reason for Naruto to go for his kunai, and without hesitation, hurling it at the location which the noise was heard. ‘Thud’ was the noise made by the kunai as it embedded itself deep into a tree. Naruto turned around slowly, pulling another kunai out of his pouch, to see who or what made the noise. The person , as it was, caught Naruto by surprise. He had seen her before and recognized her immediately. “Wha? Oh, Hinata,” he stammered, “what brings you here?” Hinata stood silently for a moment then reached up and pulled the kunai, that had narrowly missed her head, from the tree. “I am here on an important mission.” she said calmly. “Oh cool, I’m here on a mission to, except it’s a training mission.” Naruto’s voice was confident, like usual and a smile came across his face. “I know.” Hinata said softly, but loud enough for Naruto to hear. A puzzled look came over Naruto’s face at the words that came from Hinata’s mouth. The once chirping birds in the nearby tree had since gone and a gentle breeze moved across Naruto’s face and through his hair. “While you were away,” Hinata began, “I was training and sent out on various missions. I trained long and hard and on this one particular mission, I can’t seem to forget, my team was sent to help Neji’s team.” Hinata looked up at the blue sky and the few clouds that floated by. “Anyways,” she continued, “I had come to the conclusion that in order for me to be truly strong, I had to build up my taijutsu and ninjutsu.” Naruto listened intently. “ So I had Rock Lee help me with my skills in taijutsu and Neji with my ninjutsu. I’ve become pretty good.” Hinata stood quiet, perhaps pondering the memory of her training with Lee and Neji. “Well what does this have to do with my mission?” Naruto said sharply as if he were actually annoyed by Hinata. “ you see,” Hinata’s voice was still quite calm and steady, “now I can rely on my taijutsu with my byakugan as a primary technique and my ninjutsu, such as the gentle fist, as a secondary technique.” Naruto did not respond to her words nor did he let his annoyance show. “You see Naruto,” she said pulling something out of her hip pouch, “I am your mission.” in front of her she held out a scroll which was labeled ‘confidential’ across the front. “I am to protect this from you with my life if necessary.” Shock came across Naruto’s face as he stood there staring at the scroll. “Hinata! Awesome, your gonna give me the scroll.” Naruto said gleefully.
“Not exactly.” Hinata’s words came like ice at Naruto who stood almost frozen in his place, “you see, you’ll have to defeat me for it.” Naruto’s eyes grew wide and his body twitched at the words he just heard. “Defeat her?” he thought. Suddenly there was a thud, like the sound a kunai makes when it hit’s a tree, Naruto looked around for it. Finally his eyes came upon the kunai which imbedded itself into a tree a few feet from himself. He realized it was the same one he threw earlier, nearly hitting Hinata. “Hinata…” he began, but could not finish when the presence of a fist, small but tightly squeezed, came across the left side of his face. Naruto flew back a couple of feet coming to rest on his back. “Oww, shit Hinata,” he said in pain, rubbing his cheek where Hinata’s fist made contact, “Why?” He looked up at Hinata who was now standing over him, “So I can show you how much I’ve changed.” These words from her mouth brought back a flood of memories to Naruto. He remembered watching her at the Chunin Exams against Neji, “I wanted to see if I could change.” He remember her saying. He remembered the determined look in her eyes, even though she stood no chance. “Okay,” Naruto spoke finally, “let’s just see how much you’ve changed.”
“Don’t hold back.” Hinata said fiercely.
“Don’t worry,” Naruto began, “I won’t.”
Hinata took three steps back, “Perfect.”
