It's A Surprise

Chapter One

 

Hinata headed up the stairs to her room after school on a Friday afternoon, in hopes of at least finishing up half of her Algebra 2 homework. Those hopes were shattered however when she heard her father's stern voice call her name from ahead. Stopping and looking up, she saw her father standing at the top of the stairs with his arms crossed and his eyes staring straight through her.

 

“Yes, father?” She answered.

 

“Hanabi has not yet returned from her training. Put away your belongings, find her, and escort her back home.”

 

Hinata bowed her head. “Yes, father.”

 

He turned and briskly continued down the hall to his study. Hinata silently sighed and finished the remaining steps up the stairs and walked to her room. Dropping her bag and books in her room, she turned on her heel and made her way out of the house. `So now I'm just some dog that fetches for its master?' Hinata thought sadly as she left the estate's gates. After realizing which metaphor she'd just used, Hinata came to a conclusion that maybe Tenten was right and Kiba was rubbing off on her.

 

Hinata, who's now fifteen, still has not proven herself worthy in her father's eyes. She hasn't given up though, she still trains hard and even took to taking educational studies to try and impress him. Unfortunately, it seemed that she had proved to be inadequate in that genre as well. She still would take that course, because she had made a commitment to pull all the way through and she never went back on her word.

 

Hinata felt her body stiffen at the reminder of Naruto; who'd left to train with Jiraiya for three years and still hadn't returned. Sighing at that thought her gaze dropped to her moving feet as she tucked her hands into her jacket pockets. She was waiting for the day he would come back, and the only person who truly knew of this was Tenten. The weapon mistress had been training with her for the past two years, which resulted in a huge progress for the both in their own ways. Tenten had more control of her temper at times and her speed was even more incredible than before. For Hinata, her power and strength had increased so that she grew a bit more confident day by day. Her stuttering and shyness were slowly fading, but then again, only her friends and maybe even a little bit of Neji noticed.

 

Hinata was brought out of her thoughts when she heard laughing up ahead and lifted her gaze to the park from which the laughter came from. She paused in her walk and stared in wonderment. What she saw was a happy looking Hanabi sitting in a swing next to Konoha's second best prankster, Konohamaru. They were hanging together, having a conversation and Hanabi was laughing. Definitely not something Hinata saw everyday.

 

Hanabi became aware of Hinata's presence and immediately stopped laughing. She stood up, said something to Konohamaru that Hinata couldn't quite hear, and stoically made her way to Hinata.

 

“What are you doing here, Hinata?” Hanabi questioned in the tone Hinata was used to, which brought her back to earth.

 

“Father sent me to find and bring you home.” Hinata said as politely as she could. Hanabi may be rude to her, but she was still her younger sister.

 

“Why you? You usually can't go anywhere without Brother Neji as an escort.” Hanabi retorted as they started to walk back to the Hyuuga Estate.

 

Hinata sighed. “Don't ask me, I didn't exactly volunteer for the job.”

 

It was quiet the rest of the way back.

Hinata was up in her room trying her best to keep her mind on her homework when the phone rang. Cringing at the loud sound, she quickly grabbed the phone on her nightstand.

 

“H-hello?”

 

`Hinata? It's Tenten; I know you said not to call you late at home; but this is important-`

 

`Tell her it's UBER IMPORTANT!' Another voice irrupted in the background.

 

“Uh-“ Hinata looked up at her bedroom door, and waited to see if anyone would knock on her door, demanding to know who it was calling. No one did. “O-okay; what's so important?”

 

`Well…'

 

`Tell her to come to your house!'

 

`Ino shut up! How can she tell her anything if you keep yelling at her?!'

 

`Shut up, forehead girl!'

 

`Make me, Ino-pig!'

 

`Would the both of you be quiet?!'

 

Hinata fought back a smile. “Tenten…” She beckoned her friend before she could get into the argument as well and totally forget that she was on the phone (its happened before).

 

`Huh? Oh yeah! Do you think you'd be able to slip out and come to my house? Now?'

 

“Um, right now?” She looked out her window nervously. It was already dark out and she would get into serious trouble if her father found out she had been out after hour, especially without his permission.

 

`Remember,' she heard Ino say. `It's UBER IMPORTANT!'

 

Hinata hesitated, but decided that if her friends said it was important, then it must be worth sneaking out for. At least…she hoped…

Tenten scratched the back of her head after hanging up with Hinata. “You don't think she'll get too mad, do you?” She asked, turning to Ino and Sakura.

 

“It's Hinata; when has she ever been mad?” Sakura questioned.

 

“Hm…well nowadays its hard to tell. You know, since Tenten has been training with her and all…” Ino said thoughtfully with her hand on her chin.

 

Tenten sighed, but then quickly perked up. “Who're we kidding? She's going to be so excited!!!”

 

Sakura and Ino both broke into smiles.

Hinata knocked on Tenten's door after arriving at her house. She only had to wait a moment before the door opened and the three girls spilled out of the doorway, quickly surrounding a startled Hinata.

 

“Come on! We have something to show you!” Sakura said in a gleeful tone as she grabbed onto Hinata's right arm.

 

“You're going to love it!” Ino joined as she hung onto Hinata's left arm.

 

“Eh, what are you guys talking about?” Hinata questioned before looking to Tenten who quickly closed and locked the front door before turning to Hinata with an excited grin. “Come on, let's go!” She said, ushering all three down the porch steps toward their destination.

 

Soon all four were jumping over rooftops, Tenten in the lead, a confused Hinata following after her, and Ino and Sakura on either side of Hinata.

 

“W-where are we going?” Hinata questioned in a hushed tone so as not to alert people below.

 

“You'll see!” Ino replied in the same manner, though you could hear the smile in her voice.

 

Hinata drew her eyebrows together in confusion and a bit of worry. `They said it was important and they know how strict my father is. They wouldn't lead me out here if it weren't for good reason….they better not have led me out here without good reason!'

 

Tenten suddenly stopped on a rooftop and bent down low towards the edge. The three stopped behind the elder girl and knelt down as well.

 

Hinata looked around and realized she knew this neighborhood. She knew it very well. She looked across the street to the building the others were staring at and knew exactly which building that was. Her gaze found a certain room and her eyes widened when she saw the apartment's lights on through the window.

 

Tenten looked at her friend and smirked. “I take it you know where we are, Hinata.” She said teasingly.

 

Hinata felt herself blush as she heard her friend's comment, but didn't remove her gaze from the apartment window.

 

Sakura giggled. “Guess who came back from their three year training today.”

 

Hinata felt her pulse quicken as she saw a shadow move in the apartment before the light went out. `N-Naruto…'

 

…

 

“Sakura! Now look what you've done! She's passed out!” Ino hollered after catching Hinata who had indeed passed out.

 

 

Okay, well the only reason I put this as alternate universe, is because the characters might not really act like themselves, and I'm not sure if there's going to be any missions.

 

Well, wait. I'm getting ahead of myself here. If you guys like it as a one-shot, then I'll leave it be. If you want me to continue, then let me know, otherwise...*shrug* well, I do kind of have other stories to work on. Shhh! ^_-
