Chapter 3: Spirals of Loving Death

BakurasAngel: Well here’s the next chapter of Mourning You, Mourning Me. This chapter tells about how Gaara and Naruto came together and also a bit more about what led to Mashi being born.

Sasuke smiles, sitting in a tree, watching Naruto and Gaara playing on the Uchiha estate with Mashi and Sunako. Gaara’s stomach was quite round at the moment, being 6 months pregnant with Kyuu. A couple more weeks and another child would be added to the family. Sasuke sighs, thinking of how Gaara and Naruto’s tentative friendship had blossomed as his eyes drift shut.

Three and a half years Ago

" What do you mean he ran into the Forest of Death!!!" exclaimed Naruto, throwing his arms up in the air as he glared at Sasuke. " YOU SCARED THE ONE AND ONLY 5th KAZEKAGE HIMSELF INTO THE FOREST OF DEATH!!!" Sasuke shrugged, ignoring the screaming blond best he can. . .which admittedly wasn’t that easy.

" I don’t have a clue why he decided to run into the forest," murmured Sasuke, turning and walking away as he chuckled. " If you want to go find him, then by all means be my guest. . . " Naruto growled, eye’s blazing as he had stalked away from the Uchiha, cursing under his breathe the whole while as Sasuke had just laughed.

" Stupid Sasuke-teme, going and scarring Gaara off into the forest," snarled Naruto, running toward the forest as he growled. " I invited him to come to Konoha for a break from Sunagakure and his siblings. . .and he brought Temari with him cause he thought that pairing Sasuke-teme up with her might help with both of their rotten attitudes. . .and what does Sasuke-teme do? Does he act civil? No. . .first he makes Temari-san cry and now he goes and makes Gaara-san run off into the forest!!! I’ll hang that bastard yet if I get the chance!!!" Naruto stopped in his rant, coming to the gates of The Forest of Death as he just opened the gate and disappeared into the forest in search of the missing crimson haired Kazekage. " Gaara-san!!!" Naruto jumped from tree to tree, looking for the missing Kazekage as he sighed to himself, blond hair falling into his eyes, his green Jounin vest around him, but unzipped as he searched for the other. " GAARA!!!" Naruto had blinked, noticing the aforementioned ninja sitting curled up on the branch of a tree. That wasn’t that part that had made the blond blink however. What had caused Naruto Uzumaki to blink had been the sight of Gaara sitting with a fox and a tanuki. " Gaara!" Gaara had blinked looking up at the blond as he just starred. " There you are Kazekage!"

" Hello Naruto," murmured Gaara, touching the fox and tanuki who just looked at Naruto and then turned their attention back to Gaara. " I suppose the Lady Hokage herself sent you to find me. . .or Temari perhaps?"

" Nope! I came here to find you myself," stated Naruto, moving to sit down next to Gaara who just blinked. " I apologize for Sasuke-teme being a bastard. . .I think he’s jealous. . ." Gaara blinked, shrugging as the tanuki nudged him. " I think it likes you. . ." Gaara smiled ever so slightly, the fox tilting it’s head and looking at Naruto before suddenly pouncing and landing on the blond Jounin’s lap.

" And I think the fox likes you," murmured Gaara as he just looked at Naruto. " So why did you come out in search of me if no one told you too?" Naruto blinked, a blush coming over his face as he shrugged. " You are in no way indebted to me Naruto Uzumaki. . .so why would you go out of your way to search for me?"

" Um. . .well I invited you to come to Konoha for one," murmured Naruto, fidgeting as he smiled a bit. " Second we are friends even if you don’t want to admit it Gaara-san. . ." Gaara blinked, looking at the blond in confusion as Naruto turned a darker red. " Um. . .and thirdly I. . .I sort of like you to tell the truth. . ." Gaara just blinked, all the more confused as he looked at Naruto.

" You. . .like me?" asked Gaara, confused as he tilted his head to the side. " Well. . .I like you too I suppose. . .but liking someone usually doesn’t make a person go out of their way to find someone. . .I like Rock Lee. . .and Lady Tsunade. . .and Sasuke. . .but I wouldn’t go out of my way to find them. . ."

" I’m meaning a different sort of like," murmured Naruto, tilting his head, trying to figure out how to explain to the Kazekage and ex-vessel of Shukaku. " It’s. . .like the type of like you have for Temari and Kankuro. . ." Gaara tilted his head for a moment, fingers moving to touch the kanji carved into his forehead in thought. " Yeah. . .that type of like. . ."

" Ah. . ." murmured Gaara, tilting his head for a moment as he looked at Naruto. " So. . .more a sort of love. . ." Naruto blinked, nodding dumbly as Gaara smiled ever so slightly. " I suppose then. . .I "like" you as well Naruto. . ." Naruto had just blinked stupidly before nodding dumbly.

Present

" Hey Sasuke!!!" shouts Naruto, waving to the dark haired Uchiha who blinked. " So how’s Temari doing?" Sasuke smiles, thinking of his blond haired wife as Naruto blinks.

" SASUKE!!!"

" Sorry Hokage-san," murmurs Sasuke, chuckling as Naruto just sticks his tongue out at him in return. " She’s doing well according to Tsunade. . .about five more months and you two can be Uncle’s. . ." Naruto giggles, Mashi looking up as he just waves as Sasuke jumps down from the tree, moving over and picking Mashi up as the boy giggles. " Ah. . .a year and a half old now Mashi?"

" Yeah," giggles out Mashi, smiling as Sasuke just smiles in return as Mashi tilts his head. " Brother?"

" Hmm, not certain yet if you’ll have a little brother or sister," murmurs Sasuke, causing Mashi to pout as Sasuke smiles. " But you do have a brother on the way. . ."

" Ku," states Mashi, stating his brothers name in his own way.

" Yup, Kyuu Uzumaki," murmurs Naruto, grinning as he walks over, holding Sunako as the girl giggles, reaching out and grabbing a hold of Sasuke’s hair, causing the dark haired jounin to jump. " She likes dark hair. . ."

" I’ve noticed," states Sasuke, rubbing at his head as he sighs. " Does she do that to Neji?"

" Neji. . .Shikamaru. . .Hinata. . .Iruka. . .Anko. . .Kuroi. . .Kuronai. . .Konohamaru. . .yeah," murmurs Naruto, nodding as he shrugs helplessly. " Mashi likes to grab lighter colored hair. . ."

" Yeah. . .I’ve noticed that as well," states Temari walking out of the house as she smiles as Mashi giggles, looking toward her. " You’re a scoundrel Mashi. . ."

" Tem’ri!" exclaims Mashi, waving as Temari just chuckles as she rubs her stomach lightly as Mashi points toward her as Temari grins. " Baby?"

" Yup," murmurs Temari, nodding as she looks toward Gaara who is just sitting down under a tree, eyes half lidded as Temari chuckles. " Gaara seems sleepy. . ."

" Ku sweepi," states Mashi matter a factly as Temari chuckles, yawning as Mashi giggles. " Baby sweepi?"

" Perhaps," states Temari as she grins, looking toward Sasuke who just smiles himself.

" Hokage. . .perhaps you should assist the Kazekage home before he passes out from exhaustion. . ."

" Probably. . ." murmurs Naruto, nodding as he smiles. " At least the letters aren’t as bad. . .but he still stresses out. . ." Temari and Sasuke nod as Naruto walks over, holding Sunako close as Gaara yawns, carefully rising to his feet as Naruto waves to Sasuke and Temari as he leads Gaara toward the Hokage’s Tower. " Take care you two, watch over Mashi please!" They nod as Mashi just waves as Naruto, Gaara and Sunako head toward the tower. Sasuke smiles, thinking of another time when the scene had been just Naruto and Gaara.

Three years ago

" I told you not to drink so much," teased Naruto, looking at Gaara who was swaying on his feet at his side. " But you of course had to be contrary and drink more sake then I recommended." Naruto smiled the Kyuubi gave him a high tolerance for alcohol. " I bet it’s lingering effects of Shukaku that made you want to drink so much. . ."

" Ah. . .there’s two of you," murmurs Gaara, his vision blurred, nearly tripping as Naruto moved quickly to support the drunken Kazekage. Naruto himself was slightly tipsy, but Gaara was VERY tipsy. " Hmm. . .Naruto. . .you’ll be Hokage soon. . ." Naruto blinked as he looked at Gaara. " Tsunade said. . .you should be next Hokage. . .this time. . .next year. . ." Naruto just chuckled, not believing the drunken words that were spilling out of Gaara’s mouth. " Hmm. . .that was a good first date Naruto. . ." Naruto just shrugged, helping Gaara to walk down the street as Gaara giggled. " We should go out on more dates Naruto. . ."

" Only if you promise not to get this drunk again," murmured Naruto, leading Gaara toward the Hokage’s Tower where Tsunade always had Gaara and his siblings stay. Gaara just smiled as he leaned against Naruto as Naruto smiled. " On the other hand. . .I don’t mind if you get this drunk again. . ."

" Pervert," stated Gaara, causing Naruto to shrug as Gaara just smiled ever so slightly. " I think you spent too much time around Jiraiya-sama. . .and Kakashi-san. . ."

" Perhaps I did," stated Naruto as he chuckled. " But I’m not nearly as drunk as you. . .so I prefer being a pervert to an alcoholic. . ."

" Your fault if I become either," stated Gaara as Naruto just shrugged. " You introduced me to alcohol. . ."

" I suppose I did. . .I guess I’ll have to make it up too you," stated Naruto as he slowed down his walk, nearly the Tower. " Want to suggest a way to make up my bad influence on you Kazekage?"

" Hmm. . .take me out on a proper date without alcohol," stated Gaara, causing Naruto to slowly look up at the red-haired Kazekage, noticing that Gaara didn’t seem as drunk as he acted. " And. . ." Naruto chuckled as Gaara trailed off, leaning in closer to Gaara as he kissed the others cheek, causing Gaara to blush nearly as red as his hair. " N. . .Naruto?"

" Don’t act drunk if you’re not Gaara-kun," murmured Naruto as he smiled. " It’s a promise I’ll take you out on a proper date sometime soon. . ." Gaara had smiled, nodding as he leaned in close to Naruto, kissing the blond jounin’s cheek as Naruto just smiled more. " Well, goodnight Gaara. . ."

" Night Naruto," murmured Gaara, disappearing into the Hokage’s Tower. Naruto had just nodded, moving toward his own apartment, thinking on Gaara’s words about him being a Hokage as he just shrugged, dismissing the words as being brought about by the alcohol.

Present

Naruto smiles, looking toward Gaara as he walks beside the other, holding Sunako as the little girl just watches her parents as Naruto looks at Gaara through half lidded eyes, gently look in his eyes. " How you feeling?" murmurs Naruto, watching as Gaara moves cautiously, smiling ever so slightly as the Kazekage blushes dark red. " I worry because I care. . ."

" I know, it’s just embarrassing sometimes," murmurs Gaara softly, smiling as they near the Tower as Gaara holds the door open for Naruto as the Hokage just smiles, walking up the stairs as he walks toward the room they had set up as the nursery. Naruto smiles setting Sunako down in her crib as Naruto looks toward Gaara as he smiles gently. " It has been a rather long day. . ." Naruto nods, leading Gaara toward their bedroom as Gaara sighs, laying down carefully on the bed, aware of his rather round abdomen as Naruto sits down gently beside Gaara, lightly running his fingers through the Kazekage’s hair. Gaara just sighs, leaning into the attention as Naruto smiles, watching the other as Gaara starts to drift off to sleep. It was only early in the evening, but carrying Kyuu put a serious drain on Gaara’s chakra. Tsunade had done A LOT of extensive research to find out how both Naruto and Gaara were able to carry the children. She’d done her best to explain it to them about a year ago, but only Gaara really seemed to get it. Naruto had just been more worried about the letters and such.

One year ago

" Well as I’ve told you, one reason you can carry children is because you both have at one point carried or still carry a tailed beast," stated Tsunade, sitting in a chair as she watched them. Mashi and Sunako were off being watched over by Sasuke so she had the Hokage family all to herself minus to munchkins. " The chakra within your bodies forms a sort of womb to protect the fetus as it’s forming. . .with Naruto’s pregnancy with Mashi it was only in the last couple of months where the strain became quite heavy on his body. . .but that’s because the Kyuubi is still within him. . .in your case Gaara. . .you no longer have Shukaku to draw chakra from. . .so all the chakra that is supplied to form the womb is taken directly from your own chakra stores. . .so you tend to wear out a lot easier during pregnancy. . ."

" Yes," whispered Gaara, nodding as he smiled a bit. " You also compare it to what you call an " Ectopic pregnancy". . .what is that?" Tsunade nodded sighing as she stretched a bit.

" An Ectopic pregnancy is when a baby is carried outside of the womb. . .and it will attach onto other internal organs to get nutrients. . .it can be rather dangerous," murmured Tsunade. " Your pregnancies are a bit like that, but luckily not as dangerous as the chakra womb acts like a real womb so that the child’s umbilical cord attaches to your chakra network and hence gets the nutrients and energy it needs. . ." Naruto just nodded, not paying attention as Tsunade just sighed to herself. " Well. . .that’s pretty much all there is too it. . .I deliver the child via c-section and that’s that. . ." Gaara nodded, now understanding more of how his pregnancies actually worked. Naruto sighed looking toward Tsunade who just shrugged and smiled. " You’re free to go now. . ." Naruto had nodded standing up slowly, helping Gaara up as they left Tsunade’s home and started to walk toward the Hokage’s Tower again.

Present

Naruto smiles, sitting on the bed and watching Gaara sleep as he lightly runs his fingers through the crimson-haired Kazekage’s hair gently. Gaara was Kazekage in name. . .but Kankuro had really taken over the day to day activities back in Sunagakure because of Gaara living in Konoha. Naruto hums softly, standing up slowly and tucking Gaara into the bed as he kisses the others cheek lightly before going off to do a few things that he’d been putting off as of late. Naruto smiles, noticing Neji sitting on a chair in his office.

" What’s going on?" murmurs Naruto, nodding toward the long dark haired ANBU that was occupying his office. " Something going on?"

" Tenten sent me to deliver these to you," murmurs Neji, holding out a bag to Naruto who smiles, taking the bag as he tilts his head. " Also. . .Hinata wanted me to give you these. . ." Neji holds out another bag as Naruto blinks. " She said she noticed that you and Gaara seemed to not be sleeping well. . ."

" Kyuu keeps Gaara awake at night. . .and I worry myself so much I can’t sleep," murmurs Naruto as he smiles tiredly. " Tell her that it’s very much appreciated Neji. . ." Neji nods, turning to leave as Naruto smiles again. " You. . .seem to talk to Sasuke more then any of the others. . ." Neji blinks, turning to look at Naruto who smiles tiredly. " Is he holding up as well as he acts. . .with the pregnancy and all. . .?"

" I’m. . .not really certain," murmurs Neji as he sighs softly. " Tenten says that Temari seems REALLY anxious and worried. . ." Naruto nods as Neji smiles weakly. " You’re. . .really afraid she’s going to lose it aren’t you?"

" Yeah," whispers Naruto as he nods weakly. " I. . .I don’t want them to lose their first child. . .but. . .but Tsunade. . .Tsunade doesn’t think the baby will survive. . ." Neji nods as Naruto smiles tiredly. " We have Kyuu and Kitsune on the way. . .and then. . .Gaara and I are going to try for one last one. . ."

" Sunako’s going to be quite outnumbered," murmurs Neji, nodding as he leaves the office as Naruto sinks down into a chair, eyes half lidded as he takes out a cookie from the bag that Tenten had sent him as he nibbles on it. Naruto smiles weakly as his thoughts turn to the past and too Sasuke.

2 years 1 month ago

" Sasuke," whispered Naruto, laying on a bed cuddled close to the dark haired Uchiha, eyes suddenly widening as he whimpered, rolling off the bed and curling into a ball. " Oh gods. . .I. . .I. . .I. . ." Naruto had shuddered curling in closer as Sasuke had looked at him in confusion. " S. . .Sasuke. . .wha. . .why. . .gods. . .I really screwed up!?"

" What are you babbling about?" murmured Sasuke, watching the blond in confusion.

" We slept together. . .you wanted too. . .what’s the big deal Naruto?" Naruto whimpered retrieving his clothes weakly as he started to get dressed. " Naruto?"

" I. . .I. . .I made a mistake. . ." stuttered Naruto, tears in his eyes as he stood up shakily and weakly backed away too the door, shuddering as Sasuke stood up trying to come after him. " P. . .Please Sasuke. . .do. . .don’t. . .Temari. . .Temari and Gaara. . .we. . .we shou. . .shouldn’t have Sasuke. . ."

" Then why did we?" murmured Sasuke as he moved closer to Naruto. " Why did you have sex with me if you didn’t want too?"

" I. . .the Kyuubi. . .heat. . ." stuttered out Naruto, whining softly as he looked at Sasuke pure fear in his eyes. " P. . .Please Sasuke. . .Please just help me get home. . .please?" Sasuke had just nodded dumbly, suddenly worrying about the blond as he gets dressed carefully helping Naruto home and too his apartment, blinking as he tried to enter the others apartment and had the door soundly slammed in his face.

Present

Sasuke sighs, looking down at the form of Naruto asleep with his head on his desk, cookie crumbs on his face. Sasuke just sighs, the dark haired Uchiha looking at the other as he carefully picks up the blond, carrying Naruto back to the bedroom, carefully tucking Naruto in next to Gaara as he smiles gently. " Sleep well dobe," murmurs Sasuke, leaving as he walks back toward his own home, worry deep set in his dark eyes. " We’re going to lose the baby. . .aren’t we?" Sasuke turns, looking at the dark clothed form of Neji as the ANBU just nods silently as tears trail down Sasuke’s cheeks. " It’s going to die?"

" I. . .don’t think so," whispers Neji as he tilts his head. " I think what Naruto means by lose. . .is the baby is going to be taken from you in some way. . .but I don’t know fully. . ."

" Taken?" murmurs Sasuke softly, eyes half lidded in confusion. " Like given to someone else to raise?"

" I don’t know," murmurs Neji, shaking his head as he sighs softly. " You still love him don’t you?" Sasuke sighs softly, smiling sadly as he shrugs. " But you love Temari more. . .right?"

" I love her more then anything or anyone," whispers Sasuke, smiling as he looks in the direction of the estate. " Naruto. . .is more like a brother then anything now. . ." Neji nods, smiling sadly as Sasuke looks at him. " You. . .don’t really love Tenten do you?"

" No. . .my heart lies somewhere else," murmurs Neji, sighing as he smiles sadly as Sasuke sighs. " Someone that is fully taken and devoted to someone else. . ."

" Ah, that someone," murmurs Sasuke, nodding as he looks at Neji, the Hyuuga looking very tired and very overworked. " I’m sure you’ll find someone that suits you eventually. . .and at least Tenten is strong and if all else fails you can hook up with her and have kids. . ." Neji just nods as Sasuke sighs as he nods. " I best get back to Temari. . ." Neji nods, leaving as Sasuke smiles softly as he does hand signs appearing in his and Temari’s bedroom as he cuddles up close to Temari as he smiles sadly.

" He’s going to become Mashi’s other half," murmurs Temari softly, waking up as Sasuke starts as Temari sighs softly, hands resting on her stomach. " Metami. . .and Mashi. . .we’ll loose Metami to Mashi. . ." Sasuke blinks, pure confusion on his face as Temari smiles sadly. " Metami. . .is meant to be with Mashi. . .when he’s born. . .he’ll be stolen away into the shadows until a time when Mashi is of age to fully realize what his and Metami’s true purposes are. . .but even though we will lose Metami. . .we will be blessed with other children. . ."

" Mashi and Metami," murmurs Sasuke, sighing as he curls up close to Temari, smiling sadly as he starts to drift off to sleep. " Destiny is an odd thing. . ." Temari smiles slightly, nodding as she too drifts off to sleep.
