Chapter Four
Her Promise, Her Forgiveness

"Hinata?." Kiba wondered as he and Akamaru walked past the Hyuuga compound.

When Hinata heard her name being called, she looked up and smiled. She could sense them a mile away, if not that then further. When the seconds passed and Kiba knew Hinata wasn't going to say much more, he glanced at Akamaru, giving him a silent 'go' that made the medium-sized dog take off without question. Meanwhile, Kiba decided to sit next to his comrade, his fangs set in a smirk, and his arms layed back behind his head.

"I thought you would've gone with Gaara..." He said, "...problems?."

Hinata shook her head and blushed, "It was best he go by himself."

Kiba's smirk grew wider, "I wonder why?." He taunted playfully.

Hinata looked at him stunned, and then her blush grew, "Oh hush." She breathed out.

A simple second went past before both bursted out laughing; heads thrown back against each other in a friendly gesture the two were familiar with. Hinata never knew a better time when she was happy, in fact most of her happy times were normally spent with Kiba. When they quietened down, they never moved their heads apart; instead they leaned against each other until their backs were pressed together.

"From the smell of your scent, i can tell just talking about him turns you on." Kiba said, chuckling alittle when he heard her 'eep'.

Hinata elbowed him from behind, "Kiba." She whined.

"Ok, ok, it's just funny you know..." He paused to glance up at the night sky and the smile on his face turned grim, "...back then it was just me and you, now Mr.Sandman's entered your life and your gonna leave me."

"Kiba..."

"It was bound to happen, so let me finish..." He growled, "...i want you to find real love, i want you to have little ugly Gaara babies and marriage." He let out a throaty laugh that made Hinata smile, "And most importantly, i want you to be happy." He finished.

Hinata stood, bringing Kiba up with her like a doll and hugged him. Kiba was taken back by this action, but returned the innocent hug that she had offered. Hinata snuggled into him; adoring the dog-like smell he gave off and sighed. What would she be without Kiba? Before anything he was her first friend, he was always there for her, and he was always there to protect her. Like Shino he had the tendency to be very possessive of her when other males were around, hell, he wouldn't let her go near any other male without his presence, making him the best friend and brother in her eyes. Had they not met, she wouldn't have come this far in her training and development.

"What will you be doing once I'm married?." She whispered.

Kiba shrugged and pulled back alittle to look into her eyes, "I'll probably be howling at the moon hoping some naive little girl will come crawling into my arms."

"And when that happens?."

"I'll tie her up and have my way with her." He stated sarcastically.

Hinata giggled, "Are there any ugly Kiba babies involved?."

"A ship load of them." He said rolling his eyes as he pulled away from her, "I'd better get going, i smell a not so happy Neji coming this way."

"Promise me." She said rather quickly, "Promise me that no matter who we're with, we'll always have each other's back."

Kiba raised a confused eye-brow, chuckled, and then nodded, "Promise." He said giving her a quick wave, before disappearing from her sight.

It wasn't too long before Hinata felt that emptiness of seeing him go being replaced by annoyance when Neji came to stand next to her. He didn't a word; simply just invaded her privacy by sitting down without acknowledging her, and since Hinata was not in the mood to argue with him, she made her way to the front door. That hope of escaping was cut short though when one of his kunai's swept past her head and embedded itself into the door.

"You could've caught that without even trying, couldn't you?." He asked with a voice void with no emotion.

Hinata kept her back to him, "Why are you doing this to me?." She softly asked.

"Why? You say..." He was getting angry, "...What the hell did i see when we were at that cave Hinata? Why did you keep it secret for so long? The fact that you were able to keep this from me is why I'm so furious with you."

"I-i...I'm sorry Neji-niisan." She said looking down at her feet, "I only did it to protect myself."

Neji snorted, "Funny...i thought that protecting you was my job." The venom in his voice didn't go unnoticed and it made her feel bad.

Back at the cave, when Neji had seen Hinata take on Deidara, he'd been so reluctant as to pull her back, when he realised how dark and black her chakra had become. Similar to Naruto's, only her chakra didn't pour out like his, instead it came from her eyes, those pitiful red eyes he clearly remembered. She wouldn't believe how angry yet fearful he was to see her like that. It was his job to protect the heiress of the Hyuuga compound, and yet she put her life on the line so willingly for that Gaara boy. He never understood what she really was until those deceitful black wings sprung out; they took the shape of bat wings. Even from before as he saw her speaking with Kiba, he could still imagine what those evil eyes and wings would look like on her. She almost resembled a monster.

"W-would it be pointless to s-say I'm sorry?." She asked, laying her hand on his shoulder gently.

Neji tensed, breathed in, then sighed, "Apology accepted." He whispered, moving his hand to sit atop of her smaller one.

Hinata smiled and bent to her knees, and before Neji knew it, she was hugging him from behind. How long this had gone on for, he didn't know, but what he did know was that he was slowly relaxing into her warm embrace. He'd never been this intimate with Hinata before, nor had he spoken to her for very long, it was as if all the hatred they had towards each other growing up had finally disappeared. It was almost close to being free from a strained relationship.

"Have you told father about me?." She asked when the silence became alittle unbearable.

Neji shook his head, "It's the last thing he'd believe, so why start any conflict? Let him find out on his own."

"You're right; it might cause him an early death." She joked hoping to break more of the ice between them.

Neji tried for a chuckle, "He might not have paid attention to you, but i did."

"Really?." She asked shocked.

There conversation, however calming and happy it was, suddenly got interrupted when the Hyuuga's front door slammed wide open. In a flash both Hinata and Neji disappeared, reappearing upside of the ceiling with their chakra pumped into their feet to keep them upright. The shadow inside lingered for a brief moment, and then they stepped outside and inhaled.

'Hanabi.' Hinata thought.

"Father is expecting the two of you in," Hanabi said, "Don't keep him waiting."

Neji, being the first to drop from the ceiling first, brushed passed Hanabi roughly, growling when she tried to bump him off. Hinata followed suit a second later, and reframed from slapping the smug look off of her sisters face.

"You're so pathetic." She said, "I don't know why you're the Heiress, you can't even fight."

Hinata ignored her younger sister and waltzed passed her, but not before stopping to say, "You'd want to watch that mouth Hanabi..." She said with an edgy voice, "...father wouldn't be happy if his youngest daughter disappeared."

Bug-eyed and unable to respond to her older sister's threat, Hanabi watched as Hinata lifted her head up high and continued walking. 'Thank you Nekomata.' She thought acknowledging the gooder side of her demon.

'No problem Nata, it's about time that girl new her place."

'I know, but don't you think it was a bit to harsh?.'

Deep inside her head Hinata heard a feral growl, 'She's been asking for it the day i met the little wench.'

Hinata sighed, 'She's still my sister Nekomata, don't forget that.'

"You ready?." Neji asked when Hinata turned a corner, "Hai." She replied.

(A/N: The end, wasn't that just lovely. Does it make sense? I gotta know. The story will come together soon).
