Chapter Six
Jealous Comfort
"Goodnight Hinata." Neji said when both parted to go to their separate rooms.
Hinata nodded her head to him and yawned her fatigue out loud. The meeting in her father's office was boring, so boring that Neji had to keep nudging her to keep her from falling asleep. All he ever talked about was politics; and politics was we're she was at her weakest. However once the meeting had ended, she'd never felt so relieved to just get up and make way to her comfy cotton bed that called her from afar. She came to a stop down the hall, then opened her door and stepped inside to smell her favourite scents: lilies and roses. The sight of her room made tonight's meeting vanish, leaving her and her sanctuary at peace, that was until...
"Hinata, isn't it?." A dark and gloomy voice whispered.
Hinata froze in her step, and slowly but reluctantly turned to see who it was standing near her window, "What do you want?." She timidly asked.
The voice was definitely male, something obvious when he chuckled at her tense form, "Only but your company." He smoothly said.
She didn't like the way he said that, nor did she like how he continued to stare at her with; longing, loneliness. There was something else there, but she couldn't seem to put her finger on it. He seemed like a dark character, especially now since she activated her Byakugan secretly. He was just a blackened shadow in her eyes, and to top it off was his evil-like chakra that came close to someone else's she knew. She tried to stop the chill that ran down her spine when his eyes suddenly came to life; and to add more discomfort to her already shaken body, her Byakugan suddenly deactivated by itself.
"Please don't be frightened..." He said in a softer voice that didn't compare to the evil vibe she was getting, "...i didn't seek you out only to scare you away; all i want is a chance."
Hinata sent him a questioning glare, "A chance?."
The man dared to take a step forward, and automatically Hinata took one back. He took one more, and Hinata suddenly turned when he vanished, growling when she came face to face with him. There noses touched and blazing blue eyes met with her blazing red ones. Something wrapped around her waist and to her utter amazement whatever it was brought her into his open arms. She gasped when she hit his hard chest.
"This is the chance i want." He whispered, "Comfort, love, friendship, things i couldn't have as a child."
Hinata blinked her shock away, "W-who are y-you?." She studdered.
The man brought her closer and kissed her forehead gently, "You may call me Menma..." He said cupping her chin and tilting her head up, "...and studdering doesn't suit you either."
A blush crept upon her cheeks and she quickly pulled away to avoid his intense gaze. His eyes seemed to dim at the same time as hers and now they were once again reduced to being in the dark. Moving swiftly, she went to turn the light on, and when she turned back around to confront the man who'd tenderly shown her emotion, all the blood left her body. His face was cut, scarred and covered in blood. His clothes were in tatters and as he stood there with a comforting smile on his face, his eyes clearly showed the pain he was suffering.
"Oh my god, sit down now." She demanded as she moved to him with unhuman speed.
A smile crept across his features, "I'll heal Hinata, don't worry." He reassured; hoping to get that worried look off her face.
Hinata didn't listen, instead she was scolding herself for not seeing it sooner, "I'm so sorry, if i had known earlier i would've...-"
"Please don't cry Hinata..." He seriously said, "...a women's tears can make a man do unbelievable things."
As she was about to ask him what he mean't by that, the abrasions on his skin started to evaporate, healing everything in its path in less than a second. And in that second Hinata was trying to contemplate what demon he could possibly have inside of him to heal that fast. Menma in the meantime kept staring at her; he loved her innocence. He loved her lavendar hair, especially since it let off a vibrant hue under her medium-lit light. But what he fell in love with most were her eyes, he loved how they showed many types of emotions, how they suited her porcelain skin, how they could turn angry when she was threatened.
"Amazing." She gasped.
Menma used his finger to lift her chin up, "To explain all of this, I'll tell you a long story, short..." He said, then paused to gaze more deeply into her eyes, "...i have a demon inside of me, much like your own, although mine isn't two in one like yours."
'I knew i could smell that bloody badger somewhere.' The male Nekomata hissed inside of Hinata's head, 'He should enjoy those pitiful wings of his now, because once i get out, i'm going to rip them off.'
Hinata clenched her teeth together, 'Shut it would you, this has nothing to do with you.'
'On the contrary, it has everything to do with me; he is my arch-rival after all.'
"What's wrong?." Menma asked.
"N-not to be rude, but is your demon a b-badger?."
Menma nodded his head, "Correct, a badger with wings."
'It stings just knowing i'm right, doesn't it?.' Nekomata drawled out in a sadistic voice.
Hinata tried to fake a smile and jumped on her bed. Tonight just wasn't her night at all. First off she had to sit through a depressing and boring meeting, second she comes into her room to find some stranger waiting for her, and now she was arguing with her demon depicting which tailed-bijuu Menma was. She didn't know being a bijuu herself mean't having to decipher which demon was inside a fellow Jinchuuriki, it was like putting a puzzle together. Menma, having sensed her fatigue and early boredom from hours ago, layed down beside her, and sighed.
"May i ask you a question?." He whispered, breaking the light with a simple kunai that brought Hinata awake.
"Hai." She whispered back as she watched the fragments of glass fall down upon them.
Menma used invisible needles to counter the small glass pieces, "Are there others like me and you around? Have you met another Jinchuuriki besides me?."
She smiled, "Hai, there's Naruto who contains the Kyuubi, there's Kiba who holds the five tailed demon Houkou, then Gaara who has the one tailed demon Shukaku..." Hinata paused to close her eyes and said, "...lastly there's me and inside i have the two tailed demon, Nekomata." She explained.
Menma digested this new information with excitement, "Will you introduce me to these people someday?." He sounded anxious.
"Of course i will, we'll see them together tomorrow."
"Really?." He asked, not sure whether or not to believe her.
Hinata lazily drew herself up to lean on her elbow, "I've never told a lie in my life Menma, so i won't start now."
He shook his head, "You give your trust out so easily Hinata, what if i wanted to harm them?."
Hinata fell back on her bed with a sigh and turned, "Then I'd kill you." She simply stated, smirking when she felt him tense on her bed.
"You really are a peculiar one." He mumbled.
"I will always protect those precious to me, so remember that the next time you ask a silly question like that."
He nodded his head and decided to comfy himself better on her bed. Tonight he was given sanctuary, and he was going to cherish it for as long as he could. Despite being male and knowing the old rules of boys and girls sleeping separately, Menma couldn't banish the thought of knowing how right this felt. He had never felt this comfortable with anyone before, let alone a girl at that. But she was a fellow breatheran, and it was in his best interest to find them and befriend them, because at the end of the day all Jinchuuriki's shared the same pain. Loneliness.
"Where did you get those bruises from?." Hinata asked, breaking the terrible silence that engulfed them.
"The people in my village did it; it's something i prefer not to go into details about." He said with a low growl.
Hinata's chest tightened, "You may stay here as long as you want, you'll be safe here."
Menma chuckled, "Like i said before, you really are a peculiar one."
'That's it, fall asleep so i can wipe that despicable smile off his face.' Evil Nekomata said, 'And when i'm finished with him, I'll devour you, you little bitch for pushing me aside for my other half.'
Hinata turned on her side again hoping to fend off Nekomata's evil cursing, and came face to face with an already sleeping Menma. The slight sagging under his eyes indicated to her that he was tired, and from the way he was breathing, he was calmed and at peace. Seeing him like this made her smooth out some of his uniquely light-blonde hair. He looked so delicate under her touch, he even looked like a child with his undeveloped baby-face, but give him a few years, and she was positive he'd be handsome. His nose twitched suddenly, this making Hinata giggle alittle. When she moved to run her fingers over his jaws however, his hand shot up with blinding speed and caught her wrist.
"Hinata-sama, i'm trying to sleep." He mumbled in his sleep.
Hinata giggled even more and removed her wrist from his hold, "I'm gonna make a small promise to you Menma..." She whispered, "...i'm gonna promise to always protect you and keep you out of harm's way, i'm going to make sure you're always happy, and i'm going to make sure you find a good wife, because these days..." A frown crossed her lovely features as she said, "...the girls only want one thing."
Menma's eyes suddenly opened making Hinata 'eep' in shock, "And what's that?." He asked with a curious grin.
It surprised Hinata to see that he looked so wide awake, "Well..." She blushed, "...you know."
"Know what?."
'Are you kidding me? The last container who held the badger wasn't this brainless.' Female Nekomata said.
"I'm feeling kinda tired now, how about i explain everything to you in the morning." She said moving over to sleep on her side of the bed.
Minutes had passed when she felt her privacy being invaded. Menma sighed when he came to rest behind Hinata, he didn't think about what he did next, because in all truth, all he wanted was to be loved and held. And that's what he did when he slipped his arm around Hinata's slim waist; he showed her the love he wished to express, and was happy when she held his hand in return.
"Goodnight Menma." She murmured as she slowly closed her eyes.
"Goodnight Hinata..." He said kissing her cheek, then resumed his place behind her, "...and thank you for everything." He whispered allowing the sleep to take him under at the same time as her.
*~*~*~*
It took three hours for Gaara to get to Konoha, and what he expected to see was his lily sprawled out in her bed with that peaceful smile on her face that he was normally accustomed too waking up to. However when he landed on a distant tree just outside her window, the sight he took in that very moment, made everything inside of him snap like a twig would under your foot. His first intentions was to smash open her window, tear everything apart, grab the boy sleeping nice and soundly next to his lily, then slowly as if it were sex, tear him limb to limb for even daring to touch what was his.
'That smell.' Shukaku hissed. 'It's that badger, Kaku."
Gaara clenched his fists tightly, "So that boy touching my lily is a Jinchuuriki as well?." The sand inside his gourd started rattling dangerously, and without a second thought, Gaara raised both hands towards the Hyuuga compound, "(Ryusa Bakuryu - Desert Avalanche)." He hissed. From inside his gourd, a large amount of sand came spiralling out, at the same time expanding so that there was enough to make his technique work. When it reached high enough into the air, Gaara closed his eyes, and dropped his hands to his side, thus allowing the sand to drown out the main source of his anger. Menma.
'Wake up boy, your in danger.' Kaku hissed. 'Henge.' He murmured, using his power to turn an unconscious Menma into an eagle.
'Nata, you must get up.' Female-Nekomata said with slight worry. She sighed though when she felt her host coming too, 'Get that badger out of here, Shukaku and his host have lost their minds. If you stay inside they will surely crush you as well.'
Hinata's eyes snapped open instantly, and as she turned her head outside her window, she watched as Gaara's [Desert Avalanche] came crashing in through the window. Everywhere she turned there was sand, and the more that came in, the deeper she felt herself sinking inside of its core. Panic coursed throughout Hinata's being, not for her safety, but for the people on the other side of the compound who'd be taken down with her if she didn't do anything.
(Not like this). She thought. 'Nekomata, i need you to call the others.' She said, "Meanwhile I'll stop Gaara...(Hakke Shou Kaiten - Heavenly Spin)." She whispered, bringing out a large concentration of chakra from her body, then when she had a firm grasp of the amount she needed, she spun, and when fused together it created a large, blue-like tornado that reflected Gaara's sand, sending it back in his direction to his dismay. Once Hinata had stopped spinning, she noticed from the corner of her eye that Menma was fine, and that the damage to her room was worth it if only to protect him from her jealous boyfriend.
'Boyfriend?.' Nekomata said with disgust. 'He's a psychopathic killer with no regard for anyone whatsoever.'
'I don't look at what's in front of me Neko; i see what's beyond that persona.' She replied brushing herself off. 'So, did you manage to get hold of the others?.'
"Their on there way.' She replied.
Hinata nodded to herself, and then disappeared. Gaara, who had his eyes on Hinata the entire time, turned to his side and glared at her when she reappeared smiling next to him. "Neji taught you the Heavenly Spin then." He muttered.
She bit her lip nervously and nodded, "I-it wasn't easy." She replied.
Gaara raised an eye-brow, "What's his name?." He asked, forgetting the part we're he almost killed the guy who held his lily.
Hinata sighed and took a cautious step toward him, "His names Menma, he's the host of the seven-tailed demon, Kaku." She explained, now placing an arm on his shoulder to calm herself and hopefully do the same for him, "He was lonely Gaara, i just wanted to be of some comfort..." She then paused with a blush, "...there was nothing sexual if that's what's concerning you."
Gaara chuckled darkly and tried to imagine himself skinning the boy over and over again in a dream if such a thing happened between the two, "If it even came to that, then i would've...-" But Hinata cut him off before he could finish that statement. "Just once Gaara could you say a normal 'good morning' to me." She murmured before slamming her lips to his stunned ones hard. Both were so engrossed with the heated kiss Hinata started, that both were unable to detect the arrival of familiar faces. Though the blonde-haired was smiling about it, a certain over-protective Jinchuuriki next to him wasn't too pleased.
"HEY GAARA!." He shouted annoyingly, "YOU'D BETTER LET GO OF MY TEAM MATE BEFORE I SEND AKAMARU UP THERE TO DO IT FOR YOU!."
Having finally realised they had an audience, Hinata pulled away from him and blushed. "We'll finish this later." Gaara murmured softly to her and she giggled in reply. Both jumped down from the tree together, in the process holding each other's hands in front of the two men.
"We got word that we were needed, so what's up?." Naruto asked.
"Oh that's right." Hinata whispered disappearing for a few seconds before reappearing with an eagle. "Guys, this is Menma, Menma, these are the other Jinchuuriki's i was telling you about."
*Poof*
"It's nice to finally meet you guys." Menma politely greeted as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes, "Hinata was telling me so much about you all last night."
Gaara crossed his arms and growled, "I bet." He hissed.
Hinata sighed for his inappropriate behaviour, and then looked to Naruto and Kiba for approval. Their reactions, much to her dismay, were just like the Evil Nekomata inside. "He smells like a rat or something." Kiba said sniffing his shirt. "Nah, more like a donkey, or maybe a dog." Naruto said. Kiba turned on his blonde-haired companion, "What are you trying to say Naruto." He growled. Naruto raised his hands up in defence, "I mean't a badger, yeah that's it, a badger."
'Kaku, he's the slyest one of them all.' Houkou told Kiba. 'His host you may trust, but the badger itself, you ought to be on guard.' 'Right on.' Kiba replied as he petted Akamaru.
"Hey, how about we go to Ichiraku's for some ramen, then we can talk about Menma's staying in our group." Naruto said with a happy grin.
Menma's stomach rumbled, making him blush, "I am hungry." He replied.
"GREAT! Let's go guys; the ramen isn't going to wait around the bush for us." Naruto said leading the five man crew towards his favourite food stall. All the while Gaara looked guilty, about what Hinata didn't know. Menma looked starved, save his well-built body. Akamaru was trotting happily behind them all, and Kiba had his both his hands resting behind his head as they walked. Hinata was sure today was going to be a long day, especially with all of them having to decide Menma's fate. Friend or foe. That was the main question running through mostly everyone's heads.
(Hinata). Gaara thought, (I wasn't lying when i said we'd finish this later, i can't afford to have you with me if all i takes is alittle blood for me to go crazy. If i can hurt one of own, then I'll hurt you as well, and i won't be able to live with myself if that ever happened).
(A/N: The End. As you've noticed Hinata doesn't studder anymore, I couldn't really stand making her studder. Sorry for taking so long in updating 2, i almost forgot i had a story lol but then i logged into my laptop and hello, i haven't been keeping up. I hope this chapter can make up for lost time and that it makes sense. I don't think im gonna waste time asking for reviews anymore, i'm just glad some people are even attempting to read this).
