5 MONTHS LATER

Naruto glanced cautiously out of the leaves. There was no sign of anybody. Not a soul. He crept along the slim branch, balancing on the balls of his feet. Where are they? He saw no flashes of bubblegum pink, a sure indicator that it was Sakura. No flash of misty silver or harsh black. His whole team had seemed to disappear.

“Hello there, dobe.” A kunai knife was suddenly digging into his throat, nicking his sensitive skin. A small drop of blood oozed out of the cut, trailing down his slender neck, staining his vibrant orange jumpsuit.

“Argh!!!” He screamed. “Why can I never win?” He closed his eyes tightly, forcing himself not to lose control. Damn that Sasuke. He annoys me so much!

“You lose.” Sasuke jumped from the tree, landing lightly on the hard-packed earth. He pocketed his knife, stuck his hands in his pockets and walked away.

“What the heck?” Naruto screamed yet again. He too tried to jump gracefully, but the tip of his shoe snagged on a knot in the branch, causing him to stumble and ultimately fall face flat onto the ground. He growled and ran after Sasuke.

“Damn you!” He tackled the lanky youth while pulling out his own knife. They fell, rolling over each other to gain dominance.

“Get off, baka!” Grunted Sasuke. He was in no mood to fight with Naruto. Why waste his strength on such an idiot? After a few moments of struggling, Naruto was the victor. The two boys were panting hard, a sure sign that they were not as fit as they thought they were. The blond haired adolescent straddled the silent one, glaring into his ebony eyes.

“Now I win.” He smiled triumphantly. “How do you like them apples?” He giggled while placing the kunai against the fallen boy's smooth neck. He traced the knife along the jugular, against the smaller veins barely visible through the skin. Fascinated, he moved lower, unknowingly bending closer to Sasuke's face.

“I said get OFF!” Sasuke, taking Naruto by surprise, flipped him over. Once again the tables were turned. Now it was Sasuke who was straddling Naruto. In the confusion, Naruto lost his knife. Looking up, he noticed that Sasuke had a small cut in his cheek where the kunai had connected. Sasuke grabbed his wrists and pushed him hard into the ground, the unyielding earth digging into his knuckles. Unbeknownst to Sasuke, this brought their faces quite close.

“You are bleeding Sasuke-kun.” Naruto said softly. Not knowing why he added the honorific, Naruto pushed his head forward and licked Sasuke's cheek clean. He felt the raven-haired teen stiffen and Naruto's eyes widened. What am I doing?!

“What are you doing?” Sasuke voiced Naruto's thoughts.

“Uhhh…” He didn't know what to say, what to do, what to think. Why do I feel this way? Indeed, his heart had sped up and goosebumps had appeared along his arms and legs.

“Why are you so red, hmm?” Naruto's eyes refocused at the sound of his voice. He knew he was red. He could feel it. And, as per usual when someone notices and tells you, he turned even redder. He sputtered, trying to speak.

“Don't talk. It's not necessary.” With that proclamation, Sasuke claimed Naruto's lips. Time was at a standstill. It was just he and Sasuke. Nothing else mattered, except those soft lips moving on his own. After what felt like an eternity, Sasuke spoke.

“You're too loud you know. It was easy to find you.” Naruto mind had not yet caught up with the current events, so he didn't understand why Sasuke was walking away like nothing had happened, when just a moment ago he was lying on top of him and kissing him. He sat up, stunned into silence. What had just happened?

Sasuke leant against the tree, his hand covering his mouth. What have I done? His thoughts mirrored Naruto's, horrified at what had just occurred. It was just a peck, nothing more. But, of course it was something more! Who just goes up to another guy and kisses him? Especially a guy that was his (dare he say it?) best friend? There must be some ulterior motive!

“Disgusting, that's what that was.” He reassured himself. “It was Naruto who came onto me. And I needed to silence him. Of course kissing him was the only option.” He laughed a fake laugh. “Yes. That sounds reasonable.” He walked into the open towards a line of trees where Sakura was currently hiding. If that was the only reason, why was it that Sasuke wanted more?

“Sasuke's coming over here!” Sakura squealed, forgetting the fact that he had just made out with Naruto.

“Sakura. I know you are there. The exercise is over, so you might as well come down.”

She looked down at Sasuke, his face as hard and unreadable as ever. The images that had been so quickly forgotten now came flashing before her eyes.

“Hai, Sasuke-kun!” She jumped down gracefully, landing lightly. In a flash she was grabbing his arm and asking questions.

“What the heck was that all about? Did you just make out with Naruto? Did he kiss you first? Are you gay? Oh my god! You are gay! Crap! How could you like Naruto? How? I mean Naruto is so, like, ugh an-” She was cut off as Sasuke pushed her away.

“No. I am not gay. I do not like Naruto. I do not like you. You need to shut your trap, as it is quite annoying.” He turned on his heel and walked away.

Sakura stood like a statue, tears brimming in her eyes as Sasuke's words cut her to ribbons inside.

“This will be interesting.” The shinobi said, his voice muffled by a facemask. Sunlight glinted off his headband as he ducked. A red book was slipped into a side pouch. Without a sound, he was gone. A leaf spiraled lazily to the ground, the only sign that the tree had been occupied just a moment before.

“This exercise is done. You may leave.” Kakashi Hatake spoke slowly, as if bored with his team.

“Finally!” Naruto yelled. “I need some ramen!” He jumped up and ran towards the village. “See ya' later guys!” His voice was filled with fake cheerfulness, and it was painfully obvious that he was trying to keep up his prankster ways.

“Kakashi-sensei? Naruto is acting strange.” Sakura looked up at her teacher, eyes worried.

“He is isn't he?” He pulled out Icha Icha Paradise. “Oh well, he'll snap out of it.” With that, the shinobi disappeared, ready to read in private.

“Sasuke? What do you think?” She turned quickly to the last member of the team.

“M-me?” He stuttered, an uncharacteristic blush gracing his cheeks. “I think he is absolutely fine.” He shrugged and dug his hands deeper into his pockets. He wasn't exactly sure if anybody saw anything, but…it would be pretty hard not to notice. After all, they had been in the middle of the clearing. Thankfully, his hair obscured most of the view, so the others could only speculate. He shuddered, remembering their brief connection, and for the first time he felt something. He felt something other ten hate and revenge. Was this going to be a thing he would later regret?

“...And of course I wanted to! Wouldn't you?” Sakura looked up expectantly.

“W-what?” Her face fell as she realized he hadn't been listening to a word she had said.
“I have to go.” Without a second glance he left her for the second time that day.

Naruto ate furiously, trying to empty his mind. Usually, the smells of Ichiraku Ramen set his mind at ease and the first bite would quell all nonsense floating in his mind. Alas, today was not one of those days. In fact, he barely even noticed the steaming ramen that slid down his throat. Nor did he notice the enticing aroma that usually compelled him to enter the shop. He glumly pushed his finished bowl away as he stood up to leave.

“Is that it?”

He turned towards the incredulous voice and stared.

“You usually eat at least three bowls!” The shopkeeper stared back, curious.

“I'm...not that hungry.” He walked out of the store, leaving a very perplexed shopkeeper behind him.

“Fucking Sasuke!” He mumbled angrily, eyes flashing. He kicked a stone hard with his foot, taking out his anger as if the stone was at fault. “Why did he do that? I mean, seriously! Kissing me like that…well, I guess it was just a peck, but it felt so much longer. I wonder how he tastes?” He looked up, his eyes glazed over in thought.

“Gah!!! What was that? What the heck was that?!” He stopped and grabbed his head in his hands. He shook himself hard, trying to make all those dirty thoughts fly away. He was panting hard, as if he had just undergone some really extensive exercise. His eyes bulged as he thought quickly. If I like Sasuke, then I'm gay. But I'm not gay! I love girls. Yeah! Like Sakura. She's a real beauty, but Sasuke is so sexy…NO! No! He is not sexy.

“I challenge you!” I small voiced squeaked at Naruto's elbow, forcing him out of his daze.

“What could you possibly want now, Konohamaru?” He sighed. Daily this pipsqueak would pester him about being Hokage. Like that shrimp could ever become the next Hokage! He thought nastily.

“I want to be the next Hokage! So I challenge you. I have been working hard, and I know I'm getting better!” The little boy seemed oblivious to Naruto's inner turmoil. Hadn't he noticed anything? I mean, a ninja takes note of his surroundings, including people. He looked down at the tiny boy in disdain. It had been cool to have an admirer at first, but now it was just plain annoying.

“Go home Konohamaru. I'm really not in the mood.” He stuffed his hands deep into his pockets, reminding himself of Sasuke.

“ARGH! Why can't I get him out of my mind?!” He screamed hoarsely, his voice cracking with the effort.

“Uh…boss? You okay?” Konohamaru looked up nervously. Naruto, realizing too late that he had spoken aloud, turned crimson.

“Leave me alone.”

A/N: Okay, probably a bad way to end this chapter, but I needed to upload it quickly because I noticed that a few people seem to think I am just re-writing the episodes. Which, by the way, I am not or else why would be under yaoi? <<; As there is no yaoi between Sasuke and Naruto (in the anime), this is obviously original…. Thank you for reading and I hope you review!! Check out my DA account at nolongerfunctioning.deviantart.com to see my 1000 hits pic!!!
