Sasuke was not asleep, he was just not aware of his surroundings. His eyes were unfocused and staring off into space as the world moved in slow motion around him. Groaning as things started to register in his head again, the raven-haired teen reached up to wipe his cheek, it felt like something wet was on it. To his horror he realized that he had drooled in his stupor and there was a fist sized wet spot on the bed.
Looking around to ensure that no one had seen saw the drool spot he’d made, the Uchiha spotted the familiar blonde head, his wounded wrist resting on the blonde’s shoulder. Jerking back his hand, cringing as the action pulled on his re-opened wounds, Sasuke sat up on the bunk. Thoroughly embarrassed he had to grab on to the sheets to steady himself as the room did cartwheels around him, courtesy of the sedative that was still wearing off.
Fixing his sights on something he was sure was not moving, he focused on the blonde head that was leaning on the bed at an odd angle that was going to make his neck cramp. From the sounds he was making, Sasuke could tell that Naruto was sleeping, curled up with his arms around his knees and shivering as he sat on the cold floor.
A gust of cold air hit the raven-haired teen as somewhere behind him a door opened and slammed shut. Twisting around he watched as Shizune shook sleet off her heavy down coat as she walked into the infirmary. Two white bags with red Chinese letters on them were hanging from her arms.
Slowly the room stopped flopping around him and his stomach informed him that he was hungry. He got to his feet and had to sit back down as his head spun. The raven-haired teen heard Naruto groan and looked down to see him curled on the floor, instinctively protecting his hurting stomach.
The cold draft from Shizune’s entrance made Naruto shiver and curl up tighter as he watched. Standing and not having the spinning sensation this time, Sasuke grabbed the snoozing teen’s shoulder and shook.
Naruto woke with a start, but took the offered hand to help him up, grunting as his sore stomach stretched.
Shizune saw them stand and met them with the full bags of Chinese take out. She hugged Naruto and told him to eat before leaving them with the 2nd shift nurse.
Sazusa was a tall willowy brunette who had just graduated from college. She checked the blonde’s stomach and Sasuke’s arms before she stopped fussing, letting them sit down on Naruto’s bed to eat. As the raven-haired teen plowed through the sweet and sour chicken he noticed the nurse was trying to get Naruto to eat.
Naruto nibbled on the unseasoned food in front of him, lifting a small piece of chicken with his cheap bamboo chopsticks and eating half of it before setting the remaining half down and trying the chow mein and eating three noodles before going to the next dish. The nurse was quiet but kept putting the chicken and noodles back in front of Naruto after he had pushed them away.
The small nurse smiled as the blonde sighed and picked up an entire chunk of chicken and ate the full piece. The nurse patted his head making Naruto glare up at her, then left him to eat her own lunch in the office.
As the obsidian eyed teen reached for the bottle of glorified kool-aid that was supposed to be a juice blend or something, he saw the blonde slip half of his food into a napkin and tuck it into the blanket next to him. So quick were the blonde’s actions that Sasuke doubted he’d seen it for a moment.
Taking a long swig of the red flavored whatever it was, Sasuke returned to devouring the food in front of him and finished with a loud belch. He made a mental note to ask the blonde teen later why he had not eaten. Maybe he just didn’t like Chinese food or something.
As the nurse came back and praised Naruto for eating so much, he figured that it was probably more complicated than that. For the rest of the meal he watched as Naruto pushed his remaining food around his plate until the nurse came back to help him clean up.
As the day wore on and dinner came and went, Naruto once again hiding half of his food after nibbling on it, Sazusa left as Nami came in around 8 pm and gave Naruto his shot of antibiotics. As soon as she was satisfied with the two lying in their beds pretending to sleep, she turned the lights off and left, closing the door behind her and making sure it was locked.
Getting up and walking to the office in the near pitch-black room, Sasuke felt the chunk of cardboard that had been placed over the panel of glass he had broken last night. Pulling a side of it up and reaching through the hole, the raven-haired teen felt the light switch on the wall and flipped it on. The room was flooded with light and he had to blink to get the spots out of his vision. Reaching down, he grabbed the inside door knob and then opened the door.
Walking into the office, he grabbed the remote for the TV and flipped the thing on. He looked out the large window that looked over the entire infirmary, but he couldn’t see where Naruto was. He turned back around, jumping as he saw that the blonde was in the small room with him.
"Damn it Naruto. Don’t fucking do that."
The blonde smiled and shrugged as Sasuke pushed past him to go back into the main room. Naruto turned the office lights off as he followed the obsidian-eyed teen out. It would not be good to get caught in there. Nami was temperamental and would still be pissed about being yelled at by Shizune. The dark eyed teen went straight to the blonde’s bed and before Naruto could stop him, pulled back the blanket at the foot of the bed, revealing the two napkins full of food.
"Care to explain?"
Naruto fidgeted under the intense glare Sasuke was shooting him. He did not eat because his stomach hurt. If he ate a lot then he would just see it again as he puked it up, so he had only eaten some, not much, but some.
But even that was enough to make his stomach upset at each sitting.
The nurses were nice and he did not want to disappoint them. If hiding his food meant that they were happy then it was no loss for him because he did not want to have to eat enough to puke after each meal. It would have been better if he could eat four or five small meals instead of three big ones, but the only time food was authorized was during meal hours. Shizune had checked after the first day he’d spent getting acquainted with the toilet after trying to eat the whole meal put in front of him.
He doubted Sasuke would understand, mostly because he was not going to say anything to him. He was undeniably the younger relative of one of the men that had violated him. He was told that under no circumstances was he to say anything to anybody. Orochimaru was the man in charge of the city’s care facilities. That included the hospitals, food kitchens, homeless shelters and of course the orphanage.
The snake like man worked for the mayor and held a lot of sway with the lawmakers. The other men were also renowned in there own fields. One was a well-known sculptor, another was an accredited marine biologist, and one was a director of a kid’s puppet show that played on Saturday mornings across the nation. At least two others he had seen in a magazine as some of the richest men in Konoha.
It would be nothing for the snake user to keep his word and take him back to the basement. In fact he had seen Gaara, a kid he recognized from the orphanage, there in the basement. The red head had been neglected and abandoned by his father, then turned in to the care of the orphanage after a few weeks on the streets. The fiery teen was angry to the point of being hostile and Naruto was one of the few he had let get close to him before he ran away. No one had seen him since, seemingly having disappeared off the face of the earth. Naruto had been shocked to see him collared and chained to one of the many set ups that were kept in the damp basement.
Orochimaru had actually pointed him out. He had asked if he’d recognized the red head, then told him that he would have the same fate. To disappear from society and be used for the pleasure of whoever wanted him, any way they wanted him. Gaara had not run away, he had been kidnapped and sold to the person who wanted him. Well, not sold, but ‘fostered out’ to whoever paid Orochimaru the most.
Gaara was the pretty little pet of a bookish lady who dressed in red leather and enjoyed watching men tie him up and screw him. In the few moments he’d spent tied next to his friend, he had seen that the light and fire that had made the feisty teen was gone. Snuffed out by a lady that did god knows what to him in her own home let alone what she did to him here.
The price to pay to stay out of the basement and out of a ‘foster home’ was for him to not say a word. He had spoken to Sasuke at first because he was safe. The raven-haired teen had made him feel safe enough to talk, but not anymore, not here in the snake’s domain. He had risked a lot speaking the first night and was met with Sasuke’s unfavorable reaction for all his efforts.
The bastard could stand there all night glaring at him, waiting for him to answer, but he never would. He had already messed up once and spoken and the bastard had told the nurses....
‘OH SHIT, WHAT IF THEY TELL OROCHIMARU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’
The snaky bastard was the one that they had to send progress reports to every week .How many kids were treated and expenses of medications, plus the incident log. If it was mentioned that Sasuke had said that he’d said something to him then, then, Oh god, Oh god, Oh god, Oh god.
Tearing away from the staring contest with Sasuke the blonde sprinted to the office and flipped the switch. Squinting as the harsh light flooded the room again, the frantic blonde searched for the incident log, knocking papers and other random items from their locations in the clustered room. Breathing raggedly, he ripped the room apart. Only after he’d made certain that the log was not stored here did he see the blinking light on the old fax machine that was shoved into the corner, partly covered by a fallen health poster.
‘What day is it? Shit, they send the report on Thursdays so it will be on his desk by Friday morning.’
Looking over at the computer monitor and seeing the date on the bottom corner his heart sunk low in his chest. 10 PM Thursday. Grabbing the papers from the tray of sent items off the fax, he flipped through the loose-leaf papers. The last set of papers was the incident log going backwards through the week with Sasuke’s necessary sedation first then the bout with Kin, Dosu and Zaku.
Flipping the paper over and seeing the entry for Sasuke’s fight and the broken window his breath caught in his throat. Right there on the paper was his worst fear.
"Uchiha Sasuke’s excuse for instigating a fight with Uzumaki Naruto, that led to the breaking of the window of the infirmary office, was that Naruto ‘would not shut up.’"
Sasuke looked over at the panting blonde as he stood clutching a set of papers so tightly that they started to rip. One moment the teen was standing there all fidgety about him confronting him about not eating, then the blonde just took off. Now he was just standing in the office holding papers that, from the way he was acting, could have been his death warrant.
Shit, Naruto’s knees were even shaking.
Slowly the blonde set the papers on the desk and for a moment Sasuke thought he might have to catch the blonde if his legs gave out.
But Naruto was always full of surprises and instead of falling to the floor, he charged the concerned Uchiha and nailed him with one hell of a right hook.
Stumbling backwards out of the small office Sasuke looked at the fuming blonde.
"What the hell, dumb ass?"
Tears streamed down the blonde’s face as he launched himself at the raven-haired teen again. This time Sasuke was ready for it but was not expecting the ferocity the blonde was putting into the fight. Naruto was a wild fighter with no structured fighting pattern, he might do the same move ten times in a row or 27 different combos that made no sense to anyone that had ever had a lesson in martial arts. But it worked for the blonde and it always had. His unpredictability was what made him interesting to fight and it was rather effective against Sasuke.
Naruto punched and kicked wildly, letting the overbalance from one missed punch throw him forward and into an odd yet powerful side kick that connected with Sasuke, who was in the middle of a twist that would let him throw the blonde, pushing him back and out of range for him to be able to throw the blonde.
‘Shit, when did it get this serious? What the hell set him off?’
Seeing Naruto start a combo that he actually recognized, he caught the fist before it could hit his face and set up to block the follow up blow from the corresponding leg only to feel Naruto drop low and take his knees out, then flip him over his shoulder so Sasuke landed with a heavy thump on his back, behind the blonde.
The raven-haired teen fully expected to have an elbow or foot jammed into his stomach to finish the move he had stupidly fallen for, but Naruto flopped down next to him and pulled his knees to his chest and wrapped his arms around them, burying his face in his arms so that Sasuke could not see it.
Slowly Sasuke sat up, watching the blonde’s shoulders shake with silent sobs, utterly confused by his friend’s actions. The fight that had just ended, Naruto had not been joking or playing, he could have caused damaged to both of them. The raw edge and desperation to this fight was not Naruto’s usual kind of battle. It was like the blonde was fighting for his life.
Slowly Sasuke reached out to grabbed the distraught teen’s shoulder and had his hand slapped away. Naruto uncoiled himself and stood up going back to his bunk and throwing the napkins full of food away. Returning to the bed and pulling the blankets over his head, he put his back to the dark eyed teen that was still sitting on the cold floor confused.
Sasuke could tell that the blonde had been up all night, by the sketchy breathing pattern had never deepened or evened out and the odd little sounds Naruto made as he lay on the bunk with Sasuke sitting on the floor next to it watching the mindless infomercials that played the night through. He was getting used to it, not sleeping, not having been able to close his eyes for over a half an hour without the sight of his father being shot replaying in his head. This was what, his fourth night awake? No, that first one at the hospital did not count because they’d knocked him out for most of the day. So this was his third night of no sleep and there was no sign of sleep happening soon.
The hour after hour of infomercials came to an end when he heard footsteps outside the door. He had turned the office light off earlier and now just hit the power button to plunge the room into darkness. The door swung open and Nami was still kissing the night guard as she backed into the room.
Giggling she pushed him away and went into the office, flipping the light on and huffing over the state of things. Shizune came in shortly after and with very few words between the two nurses, Nami left.
The day started all over like the last one with Shizune smiling and talking to them, then getting their meager breakfast, which Naruto did not touch at all. Shizune was interrupted from her attempts to get the blonde to eat by the beeping of the fax machine. Going and fetching the fax, she burst out of the office with a broad smile across her face.
"Good news Sasuke, the man who runs the health department has been able to get a top notch psychologist to take over your case. He’ll be here just after lunch with the department head who wants to see if he can bend the rules and get Naruto the surgery he needs. Isn’t that wonderful?"
Sasuke just glared at her while Naruto looked truly horrified.
To Naruto time crawled at a pace that would have been surpassed by a snail. All night long, all he could think about was what was going to happen to him. Now time itself was mocking him by making itself go so slow, dragging out the worry and apprehension that had tied his stomach in knots.
Every tick of the clock on the wall behind him brought him one second closer to a reality he did not want to face.
Lunch came and Shizune happily gave the silent blonde the burger and fries only to have the tray pushed away. Sasuke ate his burger in record speed and plowed through the soggy fries only then looking up to watch the blonde who had been acting odd ever sense he had read that paper last night.
Every time Shizune would push the tray towards him he would push it away. She was coaxing him, pleading and bribing, but the blue-eyed teen would not touch any of it. She checked his stomach to see if the wound had gotten any worse but shook her head at the unchanged red line.
"Damn it Naruto, if you do not start to eat on your own we will have to treat you like you have Anorexia and force feed you. Please don’t make me do that to you. Eat something, anything."
She nudged the tray back toward him and this time he did not push it away, he just let it sit on his lap as he stared at the now cold burger and fries.
His stomach was still in knots, with butterflies trapped in there by the lump in his throat. In all honesty he did not think that any food could get past the defenses of his stomach at the moment. The pleading tone in Shizune’s voice and the threat of being made to eat made him almost lift the plain burger and take a bite. He could not do it though, not with his digestive track French braiding itself, the mere thought of food was making him sick.
There was a cold breeze as the main outside door was opened. The large double door was only fifty feet away from the entrance to the infirmary and when it was opened, it let cold air seep into all the rooms on the first floor. It was also used only by formal visitors; most of the staff used a side door by the parking lot. Shizune took this as her cue and rushed out to meet the two men.
His tan hands clenched the sheets next to him in a desperate grip and the tray was shaking on his lap. A pale hand fell on to his shoulder and Naruto jerked his head up. Sasuke smiled and lifted the cold burger that had been sitting on the tray for over an hour, way past it’s decent to eat expiration date. The raven-haired teen took several small bites then set it back down on the tray.
"Try and eat something at dinner, I’m not going to save your ass then."
Sasuke thought he was worried sick over Shizune’s threat of force-feeding him? That was not even registering in his brain right now. The people that were right outside the door were all that Naruto could focus on, each footstep echoing into his brain and making the knots in his stomach tighter.
Sasuke must have followed his line of sight and looked up as the two men entered the room, with a bustling Shizune bringing up the rear. She stepped in front of the men and gestured to Sasuke.
"Sasuke this is Kabuto and Orochimaru. Kabuto is a renowned child psychologist and Orochimaru runs the Health and Public Affairs office for the mayor."
Naruto could not bring himself to look at two of men who had raped him. The tall, pallid man oozed arrogance and authority plus something sinister just beneath his skin. His younger companion had a full head of silver hair even though he could not be out of his twenties. He wore large, round glasses that kept falling down his nose, so he had to adjust them a lot.
Sasuke removed his comforting hand from Naruto’s shaking shoulder and addressed the men, stating that he’d met the perverted snake molester at one of his parent’s parties.
Naruto was not watching as Kabuto herded Sasuke off to the room he had been sent to with the last doctor.
It was just Orochimaru, Shizune, and him and he wanted to run to the nurse and place her between him and the snake. She would not let him do anything to him. Looking up slightly to see the wonderful nurse that was going to save him with her mere presence he got a view of a sly smile from the pale man instead.
"Shizune, is this all that the children that live here are allotted for meals? It’s rather sparse and not fit for growing children."
"Yes, well you see Orochimaru, the budget is very tight and the orphanage is very full. Each child has enough food to meet their bodies needs."
"Like grease burgers and fries? No wonder so many kids feel that they could do better on their own. Then horrible things happen to them, like Naruto here."
The blonde flinched as his name was spoken by the vile man, sending the tray of food clattering to the floor. Shizune rushed over and picked up the burger and fries, setting the mangled bun and potatoes on the tray before taking it to the trash. The whole time Naruto could feel the man’s gaze burning into him, trapping him.
"How long would it take to get a report together with the proposed needed budget to properly feed the current number of kids staying here?"
" I could get it to you in an hour, I would have to run up to the main office then the kitchens but I could have it before Sasuke’s session was over."
"Good, go. I would like a few words with Naruto about his condition and the treatment it requires."
"He wont talk Orochimaru."
"That’s quite alright with me. Get me that report and I’ll see what I can do to better feed these children."
Naruto could hear Shizune start for the door, each footstep making the constricting feeling around his heart worse. He wanted to scream, to rush to her, but the pale man in the expensive suit stepped between him and the wonderful nurse.
"Close the door behind you Shizune, I’m sure that he would not like his case details known."
"Yes Orochimaru and thank you."
The blonde heard the door close and lock behind Shizune, trapping him in with the pale man who had taken him to the basement. He sat there with pinpricks of panic and fear coursing up his spine; unsure of whether he should just start screaming or run and hide. The blonde teen was inspecting his hands that sat in his lap, looking over every crease and fold, refusing to look at the man in the gray suit that was standing between him and the door.
"I thought I said that if you talked, I would take you back. Apparently I did not make myself clear on the matter."
The serpentine voice made the blonde cringe but still he refused to look up at Orochimaru.
"You talked to Sasuke, it was in the incident report. Did you tell him anything?"
The vile man watched Naruto shake in terror as he sat on the edge of the bed with his head bowed.
"It would not matter anyway, who would believe scum like you. I could get a hundred more just like you, worthless brats that your parents don’t want. All street scum though, not like Sasuke. It’s not often that a fine young man like that becomes so attainable. Think about it, if I took him right now, there would be what, a week or two of public attention then he would fade out of public eye. The cops would know that he was a suicide risk and think he’d found a nice secluded spot to off himself. It would work quite nicely and I would not have to put up with disgusting street brats like you."
Naruto looked up to the man, with his long limp hair tied back and pale skin that suggested that he feared the sun, the lopsided smirk as he watched him. Naruto found the terror subsiding to be replaced by anger. It was one thing to harm him; it was another to go after his friends. He could take the abuse, most of the time, but would not knowingly let one of his few friends be hurt. Certainly not by this vile man and his basement full of demented toys.
The blonde got to his feet and glared defiantly up at the snake.
"Don’t you dare touch Sasuke like that, freak."
"Or else what Naruto? There is nothing a little shit like you could do to me."
Somewhere deep in his heart the blonde knew that, but he refused to believe it. The pallid man licked his lips and Naruto cringed. Orochimaru had a long tongue and had found several perverted uses for it.
"The report also said that you two fought. Good thing, because now they will not be able to tell the bruises I gave you from the ones Sasuke did."
The entire time he was speaking the snake had been walking towards the blonde. Naruto backed away a few steps then gathered all his courage and charged Orochimaru. The blonde hellion jammed his shoulder into the man’s stomach, knocking him off his feet. Rolling out of the grasp that had fastened itself around his waist, Naruto ran to the door and started pounding on it and screaming.
A cold hand wrapped around his mouth muffling his shouts and another hand wrapped around his waist and picked him up. Struggling frantically, kicking and screaming, he bit the hand over his mouth and heard a curse right before he was slammed onto his back on the cold tiled floor. The abrupt meeting of his back with the floor drove the air out of his lungs and before he could resume screaming Orochimaru kneeled down, placing all of his weight onto the fighting teen’s stomach. Grabbing Naruto’s flailing arms, which were trying to hit him, the pallid man pinned them above his head with one hand and the other grabbed Naruto’s jaw and forced the teen to look at him.
"If you make ANY noise, I will take you and Sasuke to the basement and I can guarantee that neither of you will ever see the light of day again."
The pain from having his stomach kneeled on was unbearable and the blonde whimpered when Orochimaru shifted so that he was off his stomach but sitting on his legs instead. The relief from the intense pain obscured the threat of the snake’s location.
"So what did you tell him? Answer me."
After a few seconds of silence, the hand removed itself from his jaw and went down to where the line from the stomach surgery was. Slowly but gaining more force, the pale man pressed on the wound that he had been previously kneeling on.
"What did you say to Sasuke? Did you tell him who was there, who fucked you?"
Naruto squirmed from the stabs of white-hot pain in his side and from between his grinding teeth, he groaned out, "No."
"Then what did you say to him?"
Spots where appearing in his vision and as Orochimaru pushed down harder, tears fell down his tan cheeks. Suddenly the snake lifted his hand then slammed it down, making Naruto cry out.
"I- I told him not to pity himself."
"That’s it?"
Orochimaru twisted his hand and Naruto gasped from the pain.
"That’s it?"
"Yes."
The hand left his stomach and Naruto curled up, panting as zings of agony still shot up his spine. Orochimaru’s now freed hand dipped under the hem of the blue sweat pants and the bastard cupped the blonde’s genitals.
"One sound, one whimper or pant and I will take you and Sasuke to the basement. Understand?"
Naruto’s hands were still pinned over his head and his entire torso was screaming in agony from Orochimaru kneeling on it. Still as the cold hand started to remove his pants and boxers Naruto tried to fight, kicking the tall pedophile and getting punched for it.
It still amazed the blonde that Orochimaru’s pale, slender arms could produce such a strong blow.
The bastard had hit him low in the gut, just above the cut for the surgery to repair his ripped colon lining. He gasped and groaned, trying to curl up but instead having his legs grabbed and pulled apart by Orochimaru as the snake settled between his thighs and lifted the tanned legs.
The pallid man had freed his dick from the confines of the tailor made pants and unceremoniously shoved it into the weakly struggling teen. He watched as the blonde under him bit his bottom lip and tears fell down his scarred face as he thrust into him. Still the only sound in the infirmary was that of flesh slapping flesh and the wet slurp as the teen’s blood started to lubricate the tight passage.
Naruto could fight as much as he wanted as long as he did not make any noise. In fact his fighting spirit was what had attracted him to the blonde teen in the first place. To break the loudmouth and get him to comply with the rules of silence was a power trip like no other.
Pulling out and letting the legs fall to the floor, he came quickly on the red line on the sweat-covered stomach. Situations like this always got him off quick. The actual sex sucked, but the thrill of knowing that he could be caught was so stimulating and the absolute control over another human was incomparable to anything else.
Taking a few deep breaths to calm himself after the orgasm the snake stood and went to the bathroom, cleaning himself off before tucking it back into his pants.
Naruto stayed on the cold floor completely numb, tears falling from his eyes.
It had happened again; here where he was told he was safe. Orochimaru might be able to take him away from this place with out much questioning, but to rape him here, he thought could not happen. To defile him in the one place he’d felt remotely protected. There was always going to be someone with him here, that’s what Jiraiya had said. That’s why Sasuke was brought here, because it was safe. The snake could control it but not harm you in it. That’s what he’d thought at least.
But now there was no safe place anywhere. Orochimaru could find him anywhere he went, if he talked, now not only would he go to the basement and be a whore, Sasuke would go as well.
Naruto jumped when he felt the sting of an alcohol swab on his abused rear as the snake cleaned him up there, then moved on to the genetic evidence on his stomach. When there was no more semen on him, the vile man put his pants and boxers back on him and directed Naruto into the bathroom, standing him up in front of the mirror, making him look at himself.
Just like before, at the school when he had cut his face and told him not to say anything to anybody. Naruto looked at his reflection, the mirror showing him the red eyes and tear-stained face, the pale man that stood behind him, holding him in place and grinning. A cold hand left his shoulder and pulled an object out of a pocket from the inside of the suit coat, removing a white cloth partway to show a blade that reflected the light off its sharp edge then leaning in to whisper into his ear. Naruto shuddered from the ghostly breath on the back of his neck but made no move to fight.
"Since the last set did not stop you, I guess I should refresh your memory. Remember, not a sound."
Orochimaru grabbed Naruto around the shoulders and held him tightly to his chest. Slowly he brought the knife up and dragged it through the partly healed wounds on the teen’s face, re-opening them.
Tears dripped down his face, stinging the freshened cuts and he bit his lip to stay quiet. The snake had him bent over the sink to keep the blood from falling onto his suit and when he had finished he pressed the handle of the blade into Naruto’s hand and removed the white cloth fully.
The blonde held limply on to the small kitchen knife, knowing that only his fingerprints and blood were on it. Orochimaru violently pushed him down to the floor and hurried out of the bathroom, the blonde could hear him pounding on the door in the infirmary.
When he had fallen he had dropped the knife and it lay a few feet from him. There was nothing for him now; Orochimaru would never let him go. Not only his life, but Sasuke’s as well, was hanging in the balance. If he were dead then the snake would not have to worry about him telling and leave the raven-haired teen out of it. Then Sasuke would never have to know this shame.
Slowly he reached for the knife only to have Shizune step on it and slid it away from him, sending it clattering under the toilet to stick into the molded grout.
The dark haired nurse knelt down and put one hand on each side of Naruto’s face looking at the cuts.
"Oh god Naruto. What have you done???"
Sasuke returned to the infirmary after an hour of avoiding the silver haired doctor’s questions. The man was persistent and never once breached a subject that made the raven-haired teen want to punch him. In fact the doctor had avoided any question that could have had a connection to his family like the plague. Instead asking mundane questions like whether or not he liked it here and how he liked living with Naruto.
There were a lot of Naruto questions and Sasuke wondered what the doctor’s angle was. Was he going to be Naruto’s doctor as well and wanted to get inside info on the teen?
Considering that the once loudmouth was not talking, he had answered the questions with the blonde as the topic with as few words as possible and grunting at everything else the man asked. It was easier to talk about the blonde than himself and the man had found it amusing that the one thing Naruto had said was not to pity himself.
Sasuke snorted and walked through the door to the infirmary, if there was one good reason for someone to pity themselves it was watching their entire family be killed off. The lack of questions about his family made it more obvious that they were not there. Ignoring the problem just made it feel worse, ignoring the fact they were gone did not bring them back. In fact he had wanted the doctor to ask him about his family, he had wanted the doctor to hear what he had seen and to say that anyone else would have tried to kill themselves as well. Maybe he just wanted to justify his actions but Sasuke felt worse for not talking about his parents and his attempted suicide. Ignoring it did not make the red lines on his arms go away, it made him want to finish what he’d started.
Walking past the curtained area next to the door and hearing the whimper of pain, the raven-haired teen saw Shizune putting the last stitch into the blonde moron’s face. The three angry red lines on each cheek had interruptions of black thread that held the flesh together. He had stopped walking and watched as Shizune helped Naruto off the table and escorted him to his bunk, pulling the covers over him and seeing him wince when she gently ruffled his unruly blonde hair.
When she walked past him to talk to Kabuto and Orochimaru she had tears in her eyes.
"Sasuke watch over him while I show them to their car."
Nodding numbly, he walked over to the blonde’s bed as the nurse left the room to walk the two men to their vehicle. Naruto was not responding to his attempts to talk, no nodding or encouraging gestures. Just a blank face that had tears running down it and being absorbed by a gauze bandage.
"Fine dobe ignore me, it’s not like I want to be here."
Sasuke ran his hand through his raven locks and drifted over to the bunk he had hid the shard of glass from the office window under.
He did not want to be here. The same constricting feeling in his chest and the hopelessness from the night his family was murdered overtook him. No matter what he said or did he still wanted to be with his mom and dad. The house would still be empty and his brother would still be running free with their blood on his hands.
Silently he pulled the glass from the place he had tucked it and ran his finger along the edge, testing it. Naruto was pretending he did not exist and that was okay. He did not want to exist.
Slowly he raised the glass shard to his pale wrist.
A tan hand slapped the hand holding the glass before it could cut another line into the vital flesh of his wrist. Instead it bit into the skin of the hand that had held the glass and a small trickle of blood dribbled out of the wound.
The glass shard had fallen from his hand and fell to the floor breaking into several chunks. As Sasuke blankly watched the red on his wrist, Naruto bent down and picked up two sharp pieces of glass and handed one to Sasuke.
The raven-haired teen wrapped his hand around the shard when he heard his friend talk.
"If your not here then I have no reason to be here either. I don’t want to be left alone, I want to go with you."
Sasuke snapped his head to the side to look at the blonde who had just voiced the same feelings. It was odd hearing the words that had repeated in his head since the murder coming from someone else. Did it sound that desperate coming from him, that lonely and forlorn?
Naruto had the glass pressed to his wrist but before he could slash, Sasuke knocked Naruto down and took the glass from him.
The small shard of glass had cut the side of the blonde’s wrist and the raven-haired teen pressed his cut hand to the cut.
"It’s a blood pact Naruto. Since neither of us has anybody, we’ll look out for each other. We won’t be left behind and forgotten, we’ll make sure that neither of us are left alone again. Okay?"
Sasuke was sitting next to Naruto, still holding his wrist and watching as the blonde paused then nodded.
"Don’t say I talked."
Sasuke nodded and helped the blonde to his feet only to have Naruto stumble and fall against his chest. The raven-haired teen wrapped his arms around Naruto and held him in place.
"Only if you keep talking to me. Not around anyone else, I know."
Sasuke could feel the blonde freeze when he held on to him and felt the hands clench the sides of his shirt. Naruto took a ragged breath and the obsidian-eyed teen could see a new bruise on the blonde’s shoulder that had not been there that morning.
When Naruto whispered "okay" Sasuke started to make a list in his head of all the questions he had for the blonde, starting with the cuts on his face and the bruise that he had not given him.
