Chapter Nine: The Day After the Dance

After they’d went home Aya went directly to her bathroom and took a bath to

wipe off the sweat and make up of the night. Once she and her face were clean Aya put

her clothes in the dirty pile. Once more she reminded herself she needed to wash,

before she put her accessories up. When that was all finished she grabbed some fresh

pjs and slipped them on before climbing into bed with a sigh. Damn I probably made a

damn fool of myself tonight she thought to herself before shrugging it off. Oh well

hopefully everyone was so plastered out of their mind they won’t even remember what I

did. Aya prayed hard on that before she set her alarm clock and fell instantly asleep.

The next morning she woke rubbing her face with her hands before she pushed the

covers off and sat on the side of her bed. Man what a night she thought as she glanced

at the clock. Damn that Kakashi-Sensei, she half fumed, saying that practice was still

on even though we left at three in the morning. Grumbling to herself about the four

hours of sleep she’d gotten she straightened her bed and pulled off her pjs. She folded

the clothing laying it on her bed before grabbing some jeans and a plain white t-shirt.

After pulling on her socks Aya left out of her room making her way to the kitchen where

she found Christie busily cooking breakfast.

“You should have had that done already,” Aya muttered as she took a seat at the

table.

“Would have but I overslept a little bit,” Christie said grinning back at her. Damn

morning people Aya thought to herself as she looked at the breakfast set down before

her. She immediately cut into her pancakes making short work of them as did Christie.

When they were finished they rushed toward the door pulling on their shoes before

sprinting out just remembering to grab their keys and lock it behind them. They made it

to the practice ground just seconds before Kakashi-Sensei. Even though they had run

full force though they weren’t panting and showed no signs of being out of breath.

Kakashi smiled down at his students before he gave them their exercise routine for the

day. They all started out stretching, chatting happily about when their first mission might

be. Then the talk changed.

“So Aya-Chan do you have a hangover?” Sakura asked as they all dropped into

splits and leaned forward pillowing their heads on their hands.

“No,” Aya said as she fought hard to stop the events from last night from making

a replay in her head.

“Well we certainly don’t have to ask if you had fun or not,” Sasuke teased her.

Before she could stop it Aya felt her face grow hot with embarrassment.

“Can we not go there please,” Aya muttered trying to stop herself from blushing.

“Why it was hot, sexy, and-,” Sasuke began.

“And damn!” Naruto said cutting him off. Aya felt herself blush even more

furiously. Christie luckily stepped in feeling a little bad because it was partly her fault

that Aya was so uncomfortable. All she had wanted to do she mused as she changed

the subject back to the wondering about their first mission was to help Aya loosen up

and at least attempt to fit in. As bad ideas go that one had seemed like a good idea at

the time but it seemed she had made it worse. Oh well she’d find something to fix it

later she promised herself. After practice Aya was smiling again and bid her friends

goodbye as she left for work. She still felt a little out of sorts and the looks she was

getting from the men in town weren’t helping but she held her head up and walked into

the bookstore. After going to the back of the shop and donning her apron she waked

back out and stepped behind the counter. Today she thought would be a nice easy day.

Of course as her motto always went: ‘That’s what happens when people thought

instead of think, shit don’t always work out.’ 1 And as usual the saying was right. All

throughout the day men as old as Owagi-San down to boys a year younger than her

came up to her during the day to ask her out only to be shot down with professional

words of ‘if your not going to buy something I’m going to have to ask you to leave.’ Of

course Owagi-San wasn’t all that upset by the many customers though. Because after

they received the brush off they did stay and browse and actually buy something if only

just to look at Aya for a little longer. Aya however thought she was going to go postal if

just one more male anything asked her out, for her hand in marriage, or anything along

those lines. On her breaks she meditated, forgoing food in the hopes of keeping her job

by not going off on somebody. Just as another customer came in she took two deep

breaths as he approached the counter. She smiled politely as she met his eyes before

her breath was gone the instant their orbs met. For a second she thought he was blind,

his eyes were after all a pure white. His hair, which fell past his shoulders was a rich

earth brown, held behind him by his hidden leaf headband and their was one long side

strip on each side of his face as though framing it.

“Is there something on my face,” the boy asked curiously causing Aya to blush

bight red as she realized there was nothing wrong with his eyes.

“Oh sorry,” she said quickly, “its just your eyes. I thought you were blind for a

moment,” she muttered wishing the floor would just swallow her up and save her from

the embarrassment she was suffering.

“Most people who don’t know about the Hyuuga family believe that when they

first meet me too,” he said laughing softly. Aya grinned shrugging gracefully.

“Well it’s nice to know I made an honest mistake,” she said laughing softly. “So

can I help you with anything?” She asked reverting back to her professionalism.

“Actually you can,” he said grinning boldly, “you can have dinner with me on

Saturday.” At first Aya could only gape at him, never had she seen anyone so bold

besides Sasuke and Naruto, but they were friends. For the first time today she

hesitated, not immediately giving him the rejection line. The boy took advantage of

Aya’s surprise by taking her hand. He smiled at her while raising his free hand with one

finger to gently close her open mouth.

“So I’ll pick you up at seven,” he said before letting her hand go and letting the

other fall away. As he turned to walk out he turned back with a chuckle. “My name is

Hyuuga, Neji by the way.” With that the mysterious white-eyed boy was gone and Aya

was left staring at the door as though something had gone horribly wrong. After a few

seconds however she recovered and growled angrily.

“Cocky bastard,” she muttered watching as a few of the still remaining patrons

looked hopeful. Suddenly a smirk blossomed over her face as a customer made his

way to the counter.

“Hey why don’t you blow Neji-San off and go out with me,” the boy said. She

looked at the boy who had to be at least a year younger than her. Arching a brow at him

she smirked before she shook her head.

“No I think I’m gonna give him exactly what he wants,” she told the boy as she

rang him up. “Maybe if I do something crazy he’ll pull himself together and I’ll get some

friggin’ peace around here,” Aya muttered. The boy grinned as he payed what he owed

and left out of the shop. Once outside he quickly gave Neji the information he had

gathered and received his monetary fee before he left quickly. So she was going to try

to scare him off Neji thought, well she could certainly try he mused as he walked away

with a small smirk twisting his lips.
