Chapter Two: Sensei

Sasuke's sensei, Kakashi, turned out to be a very nice man. He didn't mention anything about the ramen incident and neither did his other two students, Naruto and Sakura, although Anzu had the distinct feeling that they were instructed to keep their mouths shut. The boy, Naruto, seemed as if he were absolutely dying to ask something. Instead, his puppy-face had been promptly ignored and Kakashi had invited Anzu to spar with them today. Memories of Chiyuu-sensei flooded her immeadiately and Anzu politely refused.
“Come on, Anzu-san! I don't wanna fight three-way today!” Naruto all but hauled Anzu to her feet before he found himself flat on his back. Anzu's breath caught.
“Sorry. I didn't mean to throw you. You just surprised me.” Anzu glanced at Kakashi, expecting to be chastised when Naruto's voice redirected her attention.
“ARE YOU KIDDING ME! That was awesome! Do it again!” Naruto was on his feet and charging Anzu before she could protest. Once again Naruto landed on the ground.
“Wow, Anzu-san! How do you do that? You barely touched him!” Sakura, the girl with funny pink hair that Anzu adored, practically cheered. If Anzu didn't know better she would've thought that Sakura had almost a maniacal gleam behind her eye when Anzu planted Naruto into the ground.
“I use his own momentum to floor him. It was one of the first things I learned in Kiai Acad-” Anzu felt her breath knocked from her as Naruto now sat heavily across her stomach.
“Gotcha!” He hollered in triumph. Anzu caught her breath quickly and joined the blonde in a fit of laughter. Their joy, however, was short lived as Naruto was hauled off of Anzu rather roughly, squealing in protest as Sasuke dragged him away from Anzu.
“Naruto's fighting me today.” Sasuke stated coldly, continuing to drag him away. Naruto pouted before giving a sad `goodbye' wave to Anzu. Anzu looked back to Sakura and then to Kakashi, who gave a nod.
“I guess it's just you and me, Sakura-chan.” Anzu smiled as Sakura began to stretch and tie her long hair back from her face. Anzu's eyes began to wander as she waited for Sakura to come at her and they eventually landed on Kakashi. He seemed to be watching the dueling boys with mild amusement.
“Sasuke's fighting Naruto extra fierce today.” He stated, as if he could feel her stare. Anzu looked to the fight and indeed Naruto was… Well, he was getting the snot kicked out of him.
“I've only seen Sasuke fight Naruto like this when Naruto took something belonging to Sasuke without asking.” Kakashi continued.
“Like what?” Anzu asked, getting up to stretch as well.
“Once it was a ball. Another time it was his jacket.” Kakashi seemed engrossed. Sakura announced that she was ready and Anzu got into a defensive stance.
“Did Naruto touch something belonging to Sasuke today?” Anzu asked as she watched Sakura charge her. As she and Sakura began to exchange blows she didn't get to hear Kakashi's answer.
“Maybe.”

Training turned out to be a blast and Anzu found that she wasn't nearly as rusty as she thought she was. She could already tell that she easily surpassed Sakura in both strength and speed. She was eager to fight the other two boys. Would she be stronger than Naruto? After watching Sasuke trash him he seemed kinda like a wimp. She could probably take him. Then there was Sasuke. Was the Uchiha boy really as strong as he claimed to be? Or as fast? He certainly had seemed like he wasn't exaggerating at all. Anzu had been trained by the son of her village's Kinkaze and had excelled greatly even though she had started later and was still officially a genin, Chiyuu-sensei had told her that her chunin exams wouldn't be too terribly difficult for someone like her. Chiyuu had even joked once that after her training was done he was going to have competition for the position of sixth Kinkage.
“We'll break for lunch now.” Although Kakashi hadn't raised his voice, Anzu found that it carried both distance and authority well. Everyone stopped what they were doing immediately and began following Kakashi. Anzu froze, unsure of what to do. Sasuke's hand slipping into hers served to propel her forward.
It turned out that Kakashi had stashed a picnic for lunch. Naruto dug into his share with gusto and Sakura was much more delicate, taking small, ladylike bites. Anzu shifted uncomfortably as food was set in front of her. Her stomach was cinching something horrible right now, but she refused to leach off of her new friends no matter how good the food smelled.
“Eat, Anzu-san.” Naruto urged, pushing the ridiculously large sandwich closer to her.
“No thank you, I'm not hungry.” What a lie! Anzu could practically feel her stomach wailing in sorrow. Besides, even if she did eat Anzu wasn't sure she could handle it. She knew Naruto ate like a pig but she was certain she was hungry enough to put even him to shame. Oh, god, she couldn't survive another embarrassment like that!
“Anzu.” Kakashi's voice brought her gaze up from the ground to me his gaze.
“I like having you train with my genin. I believe your foreign technique will give Team 7 an exotic edge. You're providing us with a valuable service. I'm afraid I have little money to pay you for your services and time. However, I can offer you thanks with food and a place to stay while you're in Konoha. Would you accept my offer?” Kakashi's one eyed stare seemed to blaze right through her. And Anzu felt her affection for this man swell.
“Of course, Kakashi-sama.”
“That's Kakashi-sensei, now. I'll be teaching you a few of my tricks of my own if you want to stick around for more training with Team 7.”
“What? Are you sure?” Anzu couldn't keep the tremble from her voice. Did he really like having her here? Everywhere else she had gone since…since Kiai had been terrible. She hadn't fit in anywhere, ever a misfit. Now, here she was, her first day in Konoha and she already had friends and a new sensei? Maybe she would be able to find a new place after all?
“Yeah! Please sensei? Can we keep her!?” Naruto never failed to make Anzu laugh.
“I'll speak to the Hokage today. Why don't you three show her around after lunch? Spend the rest of the day getting her used to her new home.”
`Home.' The word sounded strange even in her mind.
Anzu did manage to make it through lunch with little to no incidents. Her stomach felt upset actually, but the food tasted so good that Anzu brushed it off as nerves. Naruto and Sasuke didn't waste any time drawing a little makeshift map in the dirt and pointing out everything they planned to show her in Konoha. After a few minutes Anzu realized Sakura wasn't participating, just staring back and forth between Sasuke and her.
“Sakura-chan, what do you want to show me?” Anzu asked, hoping to get the younger girl involved. Anzu felt her stomach grumble uncomfortably.
“I don't know. The gate?” With that Sakura was gone. Anzu looked to Kakashi who was deep into reading some strange book with and orange cover jacket. Maybe it was a battle strategy book? Anzu sighed at Sakura's hasty exit. Of course the boys hadn't noticed, continuing to mark valuable spots in Konoha. Currently they were arguing the importance of a spot in the woods where Naruto had defeated a man named Mizuki. Apparently Sasuke thought it a waste of time. Anzu's eyes widened suddenly when her stomach pitched painfully. Anzu gave a small whine and clutched it. Before she knew it Kakashi-sensei was off his rock with a grip on her wrist, leading her behind a small group of bushes. Anzu felt his hands wrap gently around her hair as he held in back while she pitched her lunch to the ground. Tears ran down her face as stomach acid burned the back of her throat and her nose stung. A warm hand ran gently up and down her back, comforting.
When Anzu's stomach settled again she spat out what was left in her mouth and Kakashi helped her sit up before passing her a canteen of water. Anzu used it to rinse her mouth out. Kakashi caught her under her arms when she fell back suddenly.
“Guess you weren't quite ready for solid food, eh kiddo? Don't worry, we'll try some broth for dinner, Okay?” Kakashi didn't receive an answer as Anzu turned and buried her face in the folds of his jounin vest before passing out completely.
