Chapter Four: Know me
The room came slowly into focus for Anzu as she opened her eyes. The fading sunlight peering through the shaded windows of the room told her that it was either early morning or evening. An arm snaked protectively round her waist, pulling her back into the warmth of the thick comforter she was snuggled in.
`Who the hell?' Anzu wondered as she twisted around to see who exactly was spooning her. Naruto lay on his side, mouth open, and curled comfortably around her.
“He looks just like a kid,” she mumbled laughingly as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes.
“He's not a kid.” Sasuke's voice startled her. Anzu sat up, Naruto burrowing his face into her waist.
“Sasuke? Where are we?” Anzu felt guilty for some reason. Maybe it had something to do with the way Sasuke was looking at her.
“He'll be thirteen in five months. He's not a kid.” Sasuke stood with his arms crossed, ignoring her question completely.
“I guess I didn't feel much like a kid at thirteen, or twelve even. I guess your right; he's not really a kid. What's your point?” Anzu glanced at Naruto adoringly as he reached to wipe the drool from his mouth before snuggling deeper into her midsection.
“My point is you're not a kid either and you're both sleeping in the same bed. It is most…unbecoming of you.” Sasuke's insinuation caused heat to flare across her cheeks.
“Sasuke it's not like that? In Kiai people sleep together all the time. It doesn't mean they did anything…like that.” Had her southern lack of modesty gotten her in trouble again?
“So you slept with many men before you came to Konoha?” What was up with him?
“What the hell, Sasuke?” Anzu hissed, untangling herself from Naruto's grasp to stand before the younger boy.
“Are you saying I'm some sort of slut? Just because I don't cover up every inch of skin? Because I'm not uncomfortable being close to boys? Because I trust myself in situations like these?” Anzu hated the fact that Sasuke was taller than her right now so she couldn't tower over him. She settled for leaning in close to his face and clinching her fists at her sides.
“Don't act like you know me!” Anzu tried her best to keep her voice to a harsh whisper. “Don't you dare judge me! For your information I haven't even kissed a boy, much less had sex with one!” It was true too. With her training the only guy she really spent time around was Chiyuu and he was her sensei. That would've been weird.
“You've never been kissed?” Sasuke's breath warm against her face and it was then Anzu realized just how close she was to him.
`Okay! Time to backpedal!' Her mind screamed at her as it forced her body to react and step back. It was too late though, Sasuke caught her by the waist and held her firm.
“I…apologize. I did not mean to be so firm with you.” Sasuke's eyes held true remorse and Anzu felt her resolve soften.
“It's okay. I think I overreacted.” She shifted underneath his hands. By the feel of them they were probably already bigger than hers.
“You know, in two months I'll be thirteen.” His words sped her heart. Heat settled across her face once more.
“So you're not a kid either, huh?” Anzu's gaze dropped to his mouth for a minute before darting to the floor.
“Then this would probably be inappropriate.” Anzu placed her hand against his chest, pushing back. She started when she met resistance.
“I like you, Anzu. I like you a lot and I usually don't like girls. I knew there was something about you when I saw you at the ramen bar.”
“Oh, sure, bring that up.” She really wasn't going to live that down was she?
“No, I'm serious. You were so hungry but you didn't want that woman's charity. When my family died everyone felt so sorry for me. I hated it. I wanted to come to terms with everything on my own without everyone telling me that crying would make me feel better. I didn't want to keep crying for them. It was just so…”
“Exhausting.” Anzu finished for him.
“Exactly,” he beamed. “See, Anzu, you know me. We're the same. Naruto never knew a family. We had to loose them.”
“How did you loose your family, Sasuke?” Anzu asked, placing her hands on his arms.
“They were killed by someone we trusted.” His eyes bore into hers as if he was expecting her to tell him how sorry she was or burst out in tears herself. Anzu just smiled gently.
“Mine were too. Living on an island you're always either in water, above it, or around it. I was so familiar with the sea it was like an old friend. Then one day it just swallowed up everything I knew. I felt so betrayed.”
“I doesn't go away either.” His hands tightened around her hips.
“No. It certainly doesn't. Betrayal never really does I guess. Sometimes I wish I had died with them.”
“I'm glad you didn't.” Sasuke's hand came up to grip her chin. Anzu felt her eyes slide shut as Sasuke began to lean forward.
“Me too.” Then his lips were on her, soft as flower petals and just as gentle. Anzu leaned upwards, putting more pressure into the kiss. Sasuke grunted in approval, tangling his hand in her hair. Anzu felt her entire body warm as she felt his form press against hers eagerly. Anzu felt Sasuke's tongue barely graze her lips when they were interrupted by the sound of a loud, drawn out yawn. Sasuke and Anzu jumped apart from one another as if burned. Both turned to the small twin sized bed as Naruto finally peered out from under the comforter.
“That you, Sasuke?”
“Don't you have your own house to sleep in?” Was Sasuke's greeting. Anzu shot him a look and he shrugged.
“Well it's morning. Kakashi-sensei wants us to meet him at the same place as yesterday.” Morning already?
“No doubt Sakura's already there,” Naruto groaned as he slid out of bed and stretched.
“WELL COME ON! Sakura's gonna get a head start!” And with that Naruto was out the door.
“Doesn't take much to wake him up, does it?” Anzu winced, sorely tempted to stick a finger in her ear to make sure her eardrum wasn't bleeding.
“Unfortunately no. Come on.” Sasuke's hand found hers once more and they headed outside.
“Where are we anyway?” Anzu asked again, adjusting the forehead protector that had slid around her neck while she slept.
“Kakashi-sensei's house. You're staying here until further notice, apparently.”
“Oh.”
“Anzu.”
“Hm?”
“You taste like puke.”
AN: Yay! Another chapter, lovers! I hope you appreciate I'm totally blowing off TWO papers to write this for you! Sasuke and his secret emotional side, I love it! So far pairings are still up for votes, this doesn't have to be Anzu/Sasuke. For cripes sake let's give the boy some competition! Who do you want? I'm curious!
