Team 7 was training together today for the first time in a while. As they saw how each other's skills had advanced, they sparred and trained on their own under the watchful eye of Hatake Kakashi.
As they took a much needed break, Naruto, high up in a tree, too tired to come down, spotted something in the snow.
“Ne, Kakashi-sensei! There's something in the snow over there!” The blond called to his sensei.
Kakashi followed his students gaze, as did Sasuke and Sakura to see something black in the snow. All four of them (tiredness forgotten), ran to the object.
As the neared, they noticed the object was, in fact, a person; a rather thin person who had pale skin and hair blacker than eternal night. The person wasn't moving.
Kakashi bent down and felt for their pulse. It was there, extremely faint, but there.
“Kakashi-sensei, shouldn't we take her to the hospital or something? Who knows how long she's been lying here.” Sakura said worriedly.
Kakashi agreed and carefully picked up the girl. She was surprisingly light. Quickly the four of them sped to Konoha Hospital.
-~-~-~A FEW HOURS LATER-~-~-~
The girl cracked her eyes open to see white, everything white. She opened her eyes all the way and saw that she was in a hospital bed, with a warm blanket placed over the usual white sheets. She started a bit as the door slid open. The one to open it was a kind looking nurse around 27 with brown hair and eyes. The nurse smiled at her.
“Oh good, your awake. We were thinking you wouldn't make it.” The nurse said, smiling gently.
The door opened again to reveal a tall, silver-haired man wearing an olive vest over all black. He had a black mask covering the lower half of his face and his hitai-ate leaf headband was at an angle, covering his left eye.
Behind him were three kids, not too much older than herself. One had spiky black hair and onyx eyes. He wore a blue long-sleeved shirt (probably for the cold) with a high collar, and long white pants.
The next had golden yellow hair that stood up in all directions. He had electric blue eyes and wore an orange jumpsuit. On each side of his face were three lines marring his cheeks, like whiskers.
The third was a girl with pink hair cut rather short and glittering emerald eyes. She wore a red dress with a coat over it. Underneath the dress, she wore long white pants. All of them wore hitai-ate leaf headbands.
“So you're finally awake.” The silver-haired man said.
The nurse had someone calling her and hurried out of the room.
“Who are you? Where am I?” the girl asked.
“Technically, since this is our village, you should answer those questions.” The silver-haired man countered.
Fair enough.
“My name's Hotaru. I don't have a last name. Your turn.” She answered.
-~-~-~-
`Hotaru, hm? Interesting name. She certainly has guts.' Kakashi thought.
Hotaru was extremely thin. Her cheeks were hollowed out and her clothes hung from her skinny frame. It looked like she hadn't eaten for weeks. Her eyes, however, showed no tiredness or hunger at all. They were a bright hazel with dark green and sky blue swirls and gold flecks with a gold ring on the inside of her pupils. Her skin had regained its color and wasn't pale at all. It was actually strongly tanned.
“I'm Kakashi Hatake and these are my students.” Kakashi introduced.
“I'm Sakura Haruno. It's nice to meet you!” the girl with the pink hair exclaimed, smiling.
“Sasuke Uchiha.” The boy with black hair said.
“I'm Naruto Uzumaki!” the last boy exploded with a foxy grin.
“Okay, that answers my first question. Where am I?” Hotaru asked, looking at Kakashi.
“You're in Konoha, the Village Hidden in the Leaves. Welcome to the Konoha Hospital.” Kakashi explained.
Hotaru phrased her next question carefully. “With those headbands, are you ninja?”
“Yup!” Sakura replied.
“Hold it. Among your belongings in your pack, we found this.” Kakashi said, holding up a Mist hitai-ate headband and a hunter-nin mask. “Care to explain?
`Shit. They found them.' Hotaru mentally cursed.
“Aa. I'm a former Hidden Mist ninja. I had to run from there, though, because I heard the Mizukage saying he was planning to kill me. I meant no harm to the Leaf Village.” Hotaru explained.
“Unfortunately, we can't decide whether you're allowed to stay in the village or not. We have to explain this to the Hokage.” Kakashi told her.
“Okay, so technically, until he passes judgment, I'm an enemy. Fair enough.” Hotaru replied calmly, shrugging her thin shoulders.
Kakashi set the mask and headband back on the bedside table as the four walked out.
`How, in the name all things holy, is she a hunter-nin? She can't be more than nine and a half or ten! She's no ordinary person.'
