Part 1
New Life
Day of Destiny
I watch my sensei, Tsunade, tears stream down my face. I close my eyes and count to ten. Open them and she still stands there. Her eyes as lifeless as many others. My hands shake, I wish I didn’t have to watch this. But I will be beat if I don’t. She’s speaking now, my head just won’t follow the words. I block them from my head. It’s all a dream. I wish. Shizune is being lead off by strange men, hiding her face from us. Most likely crying, like most of us.
I take a daring glance at Naruto. His eyes are closed tight, he’s refusing to watch, like I should be. Finally my ears open for final words by Tsunade-sama, “Do not give up hope.” She says with a sudden ferocity.
I wish she would give up. Its been weeks now that we have lived like this. She’ll only be beaten or even killed. She’s lead off quickly with fierce eyes from they strange people.
A tall man stands now, his words are barley understandable, he speaks in broken language. He talks about changes that are made. New rules we must follow or else we lose are lives. No more training. Only work. The final words I hear is, “This is the day of destiny.”
What I Hate
My family is growing small. My younger sister was taken away when she was caught walking on water to get a fish. I wanted to kill myself when that happened. But I can’t do that, I need to help raise money anyway I can.
I see my mother crying softly, not wanting to admit that they have no money. My stomach is empty almost everyday. I hate this, I hate this so much….
Nothing To Hope For
I give up hope about Konoha. it’s a lost cause. Tsunade-sama is gone. My sister is gone. My heart is broken. All I can do it work and please the new over lord. If not for yen and food, for life and remaining family.
Endless Rain
Days on end. Clouds block out the sun. Constant rains blanket the land. Konoha, well former-Konoha, has never gotten this much rain, never. Maybe its just our gods are mad at us for letting this happen. It didn’t take long for this endless rain to wear at our house. Water leaks form the walls, drips from out ceiling, and chills us to the bone. Keeping a fire going is a pain too. We have no more electricity, it was taken away by our new lord. Most of our belongings were taken.
I only have a few pairs of clothing left. Its hard to keep things dry now. A fire is hard to keep going, our wood is all wet. Our water is out. They cut it off, I’m kinda happy they did. Think of how much more we would owe if we had it. Rain, when will it stop. Maybe if we are lucky… the rain will wash away our home. End this painful life.
Sunlight
Its been so long since I have seen the light of the sun. I wish I knew what day it was. Even knowing if it was a weekday or weekend would suffice my curiosity. All I know is it has been thirty-six days since Tsunade-sama spoke to the village.
Update
Our last yen is spent. Nothing is left. Its Harder for Naruto. He is alone, he has no where to live. He lives with us now. I hadn’t a heart to let him go, I was scolded for wanting so much. Everyone’s lives are terrible. Ino’s flower shop… it sells weeds and little dead flowers. The Hyuuga clan is forced to work fields too. I Don’t have any news about anyone else. I wish I knew if they were all okay.
Life With Naruto
I am so happy. Happier then I have ever been in a few months. Naruto’s being here was a great help. He worked harder then anyone. At least we are not poor now. My mother is ashamed for being angry at having Naruto here. He finds little things for us. Even brings us grain that we don’t have. I’m so glad he stays with us. I think I would lose myself if he wasn’t here. Naruto, all those times I called you a stupid… I’m sorry.
Lucky Grab
I walk the garden I planted, to get the produce to sell. Something catches my eyes. A gold tint. A gold tint. A future. I pick at it, pulling out a sliver of gold, no bigger then my finger nail, but I already know its worth more then my life at this time. More then my only existence. My thoughts automatically go to the dreams of food. Ramen for Naruto. Sugar for cakes. Food for a month, if we are lucky. But when I walk inside, with my precious little sliver of hope, its not taken for. My mom slaps me, telling me it’ll only bring us disaster. She tells me to put it back. I won’t. I’m going to buy something for me. Ramen for Naruto. As much as he wants. And sugar to make sweets. Real sugar, sweet, sweet sugar.
Terrible Tragedies
People show up at our home. Scary men all in tan. I thought they were here for taxes, or just to take some things. I was wrong, they are here for me. Why? Why do they want me? Why? Was it because I didn’t put the gold back where I found it? Was it because I crossed the lords path? Was it because I did something wrong? Was Naruto caught stealing grain and I was being blame? No. No none of those reasons. Even worse then that. I was being sold.
“You have three minuets to get anything you want.” a man says, his voice beating her down, “Understand?”
I don’t. I don’t think I ever will. I look at my mom, her face is in my fathers chest, sobs. He is refusing to look at me, his head low ashamed of what he was doing? My eyes go to Naruto now. His mouth is open as large as it could be. He is just as confused as me.
“Two and a half minuets…” The man barks angrily.
I don’t want to know what happens if I take extra time. I run up a flight of stairs to my room, my empty room. Tears striking down my face. Why? That’s all my mind yells. Why? I open my draws. Takeing out the few things I have left. A shall, a skirt…
“One and a half minuets….!” I hear the evil voice yell.
A minuet already passed, how quick. A door opens and closes behind me. I threaten a glance and sigh thankfully. “Naruto.”
Naruto looks at me sadly. “You don’t have to go. I’ll protect you.”
I shake my head.
“Please Sakura-chan..” he begs.
I shake my head again.
“Please…”
“No, Naruto. I can’t my father did this for a reason.” My voice is strangely calm even though I knenmy life was going to become hell.
“Sakura-chan,” Naruto puts his hand on his chest. “I’ll take care of your family I promise.”
“Thank you, Naruto.” I whisper and turn around my things packed in a burlap bag. “Please watch them…”
“Here.” He walks over handing her a coupon, for ramen. “I know you can use it, but keep it please.”
“Thank you.” I repeat my voice slowly losing its calmness.
Footsteps. Stomping up the stairs. The door is throw open and the man walks in, “Your times up!” He rushes over, his face red with anger. “Come along now.” He grabs my arm and pulls me after him.
“Naruto!” I scream, I don’t want to go now. My hand extended towards him, my fingers touch his cheek. It must have sparked something, because he runs after me and takes my hand.
“Let go boy!” the man yells forcing our hands apart. He continues to drag me after.
My mother runs up and hands me another burlap bag. I have no to look, only look back at my old home. Wondering what will happen to it now that I am gone.
